Billy previews this Saturday's live event in Ellon.
There's a strong chance you, or someone you know, has enjoyed a beer that has been made possible by the hand of Nikola Marjanovic. Following a degree in food technology, specialising in microbiological processes, at Serbia's University of Novi Sad, he became a quality engineer before then taking the position of brewing supervisor at Apatin Brewery. Three years later Nikola swapped Serbia for Scotland, becoming brewery manager at BrewDog. In more than six years, he oversaw a period of significant growth at the business. Upon leaving the Ellon brewery, he would head south to take the job of head of brewery operations and expansion at Beavertown before then moving to operations director last November. During that time, Beavertown was acquired by Heineken and also opened its new brewery in Enfield. Opening in August 2020, the new facility was armed with the ability to produce up to 500,000hl and to brew in 150hl batches. Thanks to the popularity of beers such as Neck Oil, Beavertown has only grown further since. And similar to his time in Ellon, Nikola has been integral in overseeing the commission and addition of equipment that brews and packs these beers. In this episode we speak to Nikola about his role in specifying, building and expanding some of Britain's biggest breweries, the main hurdles and challenges he's encountered along the way, and his passion for learning, self-improvement and training, especially when it comes to his team.
Cara and Andy join Grant to discuss Andys Six Nations experience and discuss the lists at this weekends Farmhammer event held in the Brewdog Brewery in Ellon
APB with Iain Slater in conversation with David Eastaugh APB formed in the small rural town of Ellon, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, and consisted of singer/bassist Iain Slater, guitarist Glenn Roberts, and drummer George Cheyne. Though living in a remote area, they took inspiration from the "DIY" spirit of the punk scene, sounding like bands as Liquid Liquid, adopting a hard-working approach to writing, rehearsing and performing. Meanwhile, in Aberdeen, a small independent record company called Oily had started to release records and they were impressed enough by the band's live shows to release a single in 1981. The song was "Chain Reaction", which had long been a favourite at gigs. It was basically a two and a half minute punk/pop song with fuzzy distorted guitar and Scottish inflected vocals, but already the band was evolving with a sparser and more rhythmical sound. Bootsy Collins, George Clinton, Gang of Four, ESG, Buzzcocks, and The Clash were all filtered through three teenagers from Aberdeenshire to create a catchy, rhythmic sound.

Hear from assistant manager Tony Docherty and midfielder Kenny McLean ...and get the thoughts of manager Derek McInnes who gave his only Interview ahead of the game to Jeff and Lauren's 'Kid in the Kitroom' 7-year-old Mark from Ellon. With Dave Macdermid, Andrew Shinie and Allan Davidson.
Last week, GBH flew me to Aberdeen, Scotland to visit BrewDog—the fastest growing brewing company in Europe. I first visited the brewery in 2015, and what I experienced on that trip would eventually materialize as my first ever GBH story. Since then, operations at what can now only be described as BrewDog’s “campus” in the town of Ellon, around 30 minutes from Aberdeen itself, have expanded exponentially. For starters, there’s a brand new, purpose-built brewing facility featuring a 255-barrel German brewhouse. Once fully operational, it will be brewing up to 10 times per day. Also inside this new build is a labyrinth of offices, which amongst them features a brand new lab and quality control department—the result of a $2.6 million dollar investment. There’s also Lone Wolf, BrewDog’s brand new spirits division. And the expansion doesn’t stop there. They have a standalone sour beer facility, Overworks, which is nearing completion, coolship and all. Following a comprehensive tour of these facilities, I sat down with BrewDog co-founder James Watt. You might be more familiar with his more extroverted and outspoken persona. He's prone to standing on bar tops a'la Stone's Greg Koch (a mentor of Watt’s), but on this occasion he cut a far calmer and more softly spoken figure. Over the next hour we tackle pretty much every topic BrewDog’s name has come up with over the last few months. This includes selling 22% of the company to a private equity company for £213 million, opening a brewing facility in Columbus, Ohio, and future plans to build similar operations in Australia and China. And, of course, we even discuss whether or not a multinational company with millions of dollars in investment behind it can still be considered “punk.”
Six-year-old Mark from Ellon is what we’re calling our Kid in the Kit Room. He’s become a regular with Jeff and Lauren, calling up to give his unique view and feedback on the Dons performance. It’s no holds barred with Mark who tells it like it is! His hilarious feedback on the teams' performance came to the attention of one; ‘Adam Rooney’ who called up the show to surprise Mark with an invite to meet the team in person to deliver an after game pep talk in person!
