Welcome to the Bishop and Bear – the internet's favourite virtual cricket pub. The dust has just about settled from the Ashes excitement and at Guerilla Cricket we are gearing up for the Cricket World Cup. Before that, of course, comes the white ball bonanza against New Zealand and Ireland. Two fabulous guests have found their way to our Barstools of Bravado this week. St Annie of Exeter, is, of course, not remotely phased by A list celebrity company and it doesn't get much more A listy than your Ursine Landlord, your Episcopal Barman and our other guest, author, rantconteur and guerilla silver back, Hendo. She's also been interviewing Stephen Fry recently as well. England announced their ODI and T20 squads this week, including the return of Ben Stokes at, it would seem, the omission of Harry Brook, for the ODI's at least. And if you don't know about Hampshire's John Turner, we run the rule over the ‘new Glenn McGrath'. But, should he be playing for England or his native South Africa? That's a question that leads us deep into the moral and financial inequities of cricket these days. Here is the full discussion menu, around which we meander: - Stokes out of ODI Retirement? But should he be? - England ODI and T20 squads for NZ and Ireland. That should be pretty much the WC squad too? - Jump on the Metro or scoff salty snacks? Why not both? - If not The Hundred what next and when? - World Cup Warm Ups are not so far away. Australia seems to have thought there's through a bit more than England? - Ireland vs India – Might not be a massacre in T20 format? - Asia Cup – A very decent warm up for India, Pak, SL, Bangladesh and Afghanistan Don't forget, if you haven't yet got yourself some Ponting wine, our special offer for Guerilla followers and fans will stay open just a little longer. You can get that 15% discount right here using the special gcashes2023 code. Cheers. Its great to have you in the Bishop and Bear. See you next time! A bit of pop up podcast this one. But when the Bear and I had the chance to grab Mpho @MphoMoreki and Tim the Cricket Guy @Tim32_cricket it was just too good an opportunity to miss to chat over the South Africa vs England ODI series. Even with England missing a few regulars, at the start of a World Cup year, this series undoubtedly meant something to both sides. England, woefully out of ODI form, needed to start gathering momentum. South Africa needed wins just to automatically qualify. 2 -1 it was in the end to South Africa, but that win for England in Kimberley, with tons for Jos Buttler and Dawid Malan, plus, of course those super six wickets for Jofra Archer will have meant England walked away feeling a lot happier than they might have. You can listen here as we celebrate a well- supported series, some big positives for both sides and also dig into who may, or may not, be worried about their places.

The Hundred tournament starts on 3 August 2022. No-one will be watched more closely through the tournament than Jos Buttler. The new England ODI and T20 Captain had a sensational IPL in 2022. But form has dipped since he returned to the UK, and he'll be keen to take his team to glory in The Hundred. He's got some big hitters alongside too: Andre Russell, Phil Salt, Laurie Evans. But it's not clear what Rich thinks putting Wanindu Hasaranga in at #3 in the batting... they'll need his magic bowling to take the wickets! This is The Hundred Club: a community for fans of short format cricket.

It's been another busy week in the world of cricket and we start the show in Aotearoa to discuss the series of Conway and two impressive performances from the Black Caps. We praise Martin Guptill and Jimmy Neesham, discuss Kyle Jamieson's struggles for the first time in his international career and Baldy is left with more questions than answers when looking at this Australian T20 squad. As we move to the White Ferns v England ODI series, we ponder what changed from games 1-2 to game 3 and Lippy highlights the impressive debut of Brooke Halliday and a match-winning partnership as reason for optimism heading into the T20 fixtures despite a 2-1 series loss. We finish the New Zealand segment of the show with the Ford Trophy, where hundreds galore find Canterbury and Wellington in finals contention once again. After Raj's favourite noise, we head to Ahmedabad to debate the pitch and the ball, Binksy talks about bikinis and eventually we even talk about the cricket that was played during a Test that didn't last much longer than the podcast. Keep an eye on your feed over the coming days, as we'll have a few extra episodes this week, in which we discuss potential rule changes to our great game. Adam & Tony reflect on a very strange but certainly memorable and ultimately brilliant summer of cricket in England. Did the quality of on-field action surpass all our expectations? And has cricket been the best post-lockdown sport?Plus: how good are England's white ball teams at the moment? Are Australia among their rivals for the next T20 World Cup? Does Joe Root get in the England ODI team? And Jimmy Anderson took his 600th Test wicket, but did anyone notice? Also this week: the IPL finally bludgeons its way into our hearts (largely thanks to Nicolas Pooran), and we discuss a truly astonishing archaeological find. All this and more on the latest World Cricket Show. Eoin Morgan has had an incredible career, born into a four generation cricket family in Ireland, he's gone on to be the person to bring the World Cup to England. So I found someone who has spent a lot of time working out who the real Eoin Morgan is. Melinda Farrell has spent the last five years following the England ODI team and she wrote a feature on Morgan that went up just before the World Cup. In this episode we discuss Morgan's cold reputation, his journey from the poor parts of Dublin to affluent Dulwich College, his dual nationality, how much he didn't like Kolkata, Baz McCullum and England winning the World Cup. - To support the podcast please go to our Patreon page. https://www.patreon.com/user?u=32090121.
