Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking!A “Deep Cut” is something that is recognisable or familiar to passionate fans but not usually to others. As a special treat this week, we've delved into our collections to give you some deep cuts from our favourites – things like Queen, Bowie, Joe Cocker, Nick Cave and TISM. We think you'll love them, In Rock News, Jeff delves into songs that turn 60 on 2025, looks at Sunday Lunch with Toyah and Robert Fripp, and looks at Yachtley Crew, a strange phenomenon from California. Our Album You Must Hear Before You Die this week is Raw Power (1973) by Iggy and the Stooges. The lo-fi production on this highly influential album is the source of much tension between Bowie and Iggy, much of it not fair. We liked it! Enjoy. Send us a message, so we know what you're thinking!Back in Season 1, we talked at length about Warren Zevon, one of the great American songwriters and one of our idols. So, this year Warren Zevon has been inducted into the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame, along with Bad Company and Cyndi Lauper, and we thought that was a perfect excuse to close the loop on our coverage of his career. It's all here – his later career, final album, appearances on Letterman. We loved doing it, and we know that you will love listening to this one! Our “Album You Must Listen to Before You Die” is John Lennon's 1980 hit, “Imagine”. As usual with Lennon's solo albums, it's more (and less) than it seems on the face of it, containing some of Lennon's best work along with some filler. But, hey, it's a strong album and gave Roxy Music their worst-ever cover (FYI - “Jealous Guy”). We also venture into the world of ChatGPT to find out the Best Albums of 1972. They go through their favorite albums, compose a 45-minute playlist, and go through some of Zevon's wildest bouts of alcohol and self-destructive excess. On this episode of Dystopia Tonight I had the great pleasure of hosting the legendary Jorge Calderón on the show! Calderón is a highly accomplished musician, songwriter, and producer known for his work in the rock, pop, and Americana music scenes. He has collaborated with some of the most iconic artists of our time, including Jackson Browne, and the Eagles, and has contributed to countless hit records throughout his career. Perhaps one of the most significant partnerships in his career was his friendship and creative collaboration with the late Warren Zevon, a legendary singer-songwriter known for his irreverent wit and unique blend of rock, folk, and pop. We discuss Calderón meeting Zevon in the early 1970s, the two quickly becoming close friends and musical collaborators, and playing bass on Zevon's eponymous 1976 album, which included the hit single "Werewolves of London.” He also talks in depth about how he came to sing on Warren's tribute album, “Enjoy Every Sandwich” where he sang a cover of “Keep Me In Your Heart.” Jorge played a significant role in helping Warren finish writing the song which ultimately became one of Zevon's most beloved and poignant compositions. For Calderon, the experience of helping his friend complete the song was both deeply moving and a testament to the power of creativity, collaboration, and human connection. In the years since Zevon's passing, Calderon has continued to honor his memory and legacy through his own music, and remains a cherished member of the wider music community as a result of his many contributions to the world of rock, folk, and pop music

Many people use New Year's Day as a new beginning for improving areas of their life. The sad fact is 43% fail before February, and almost one out of four quit within the first week of setting their New Year's resolution. Most people quit before the end of January, and only 9% see their resolutions through until succession. So, why do we set these lofty annual goals for ourselves? We should make every day New "Day" Day! We don't know what tomorrow holds, but we have an opportunity to improve the quality of our lives everyday that we wake up. If we focus more on the beauty of today and worry less about the troubles of tomorrow we will achieve our resolutions 100%.HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello fellow music fans, Paul here from The Third Men Podcast. We're taking a break from our regularly scheduled programming this week to pay tribute to a giant in the world of music podcasting - our dear friend Ryan Brady. News of Ryan's passing has left us shocked, saddened, and in need of a pause to reflect upon the enormous impact he had on us. If you've listened to our show, then you've heard Ryan's voice - whether it be walking through Lazaretto or spinning elaborate webs of Beatle trivia or making our dad laugh with his sharp wit. Ryan was an amazing talent - a musician, a businessman, record executive and a pioneer in music podcasting (with his incredible show Take It Away alongside co-creator Chris Mercer)...but most of all he was a friend. He supported us, helped show us the way forward, and he's left an incredible mark upon our lives. James and I recorded this mini-episode just to say "thank you" to Ryan, and that we love him & his family. We'll be back next week with a full, new episode, but we hope you'll join us now in tipping our hats to the "great connector". Love you, Ryan - enjoy every sandwich. Today, the native Texan, of the Eagles, turns 72. He sang lead vocals on many of the Eagles songs and co-lead on many others, while also being their drummer, not sure if that was common knowledge or not. As seems, maybe an entire generation may be lost to the greatness of the Eagles. Due to one famous movie quote: The Dude speaks; in all of his infinite wisdom... the Cohen Brothers may have lead many young people astray of being open to the Eagles; maybe other than Hotel California, nobody can deny that! Digging deeper into the Eagles, that would take some time. So instead let's look at some of the great songs that Don Henley recorded post-Eagles. But today, let's look back, it's not quite the end of Summer, but we are a little over half way through it.. This first song, Inside Job off of the 2000 album of the same name seems to have been scrubbed from Google and Youtube algorithms, per seeming Chinese style censorship, seemingly based on subject matter and keywords. Go look, try and try to find it yourself, outside of Spotify and other streaming platforms, I had to track this down from a physical CD from the Austin library. Now, hear the banned song for yourselves: "The Man"! Man, that was Mr. Henley singing on Randy Newman's 1995 Faust album. And before that, was Warren Zevon's "Searching for a Heart" off of the Enjoy Every Sandwich 1 Tribute. Finally, here is an Eagles album ending track, a reprise that encompasses that albums main themes, thanks for listening! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/tiny-curations-deep-dives/message
On this episode of #SoLA, Camille and Charlie try to explain their personal life philosophy, inspired by Warren Zevon: Enjoy Every Sandwich. Unfortunately, Camille forgot the reason she chose this topic was as a tribute to Jonathan Gold (the late, great Los Angeles food writer), so the episode is something of a mess. Even more of a mess than usual, in fact! Regardless, you’ll still find lots of discussions about sandwiches, Apple Maps vs. Google Maps and the true aim of MAGA. There’s also a fair amount of nonsensical film discussion. McCabe and Mrs. Miller is the Eyes Wide Shut of Robert Altman: “no one’s got a poster of it on their wall, but it’s their best”. Munich is Spielberg’s McCabe and Mrs. Miller. After Hours is Scorsese’s Munich. And so on and so on. Don't forget to use our new hashtag! #KramerBasedHaroldTeamName
This is an awesome story I heard from a friend! Basically, it's been what I've been preaching for years, appreciate your life, find the precious moments in every day! Life is way too short not to embrace it! I know it can be yucky at times, but that's part of life. And we move forward and continue until those moments are apparent again. I have heartaches and some major disappointments, but I have been looking for a 'bigger' meaning within these events for years. I have to, to get through some of those yucky times. And no, I don't always find one, but I still believe in "Enjoy Every Sandwich"! I elaborate on my show about how this phrase stirred me to focus on this today and I hope you can relate. Anyone ever ask you if you enjoyed yourself after an event? What about asking yourself if there was one moment of your day you enjoyed. We always talk about enjoying every day, but I love the twist on this one. Plus, I love sandwiches. Grilled cheese, hamburgers, tunafish...okay I think you've got the picture! But you won't completely get this phrase until you listen or watch today's show! I'm doing a video version if you'd rather watch me ramble on :-) https://youtu.be/RtFrk5GqBnE And if you want to send that special card, visit www.HeyCardLady.com and send one, free. My gift to you! Thank you for listening! Passing On A Smile. Gail

The guys started the show dreaming about a Red Mac Pro. They then turned to the passing of Bill Keene. Bill has been mentioned in various FST episodes and was a well respected epidemiologist as seen in the articles by the Oregonian and Doug Powell. The guys then turned to their beverages, Coffee Club, Napoleon Dynamite, Homeland, and Car Talk. Ben shared his preference for Aussie Rule football and Arcade Fire's album Reflektor. The conversation then turned to Don's limited iPhone music library, Privateering and Dire Straights, which reminded Ben of Money for Nothing and WWE Wrestling (not WWF Wrestling). To finish they talked about Christmas music, Bad Religion's Christmas Songs, Coulton and Roderick's One Christmas at a Time and Horrible Christmas songs. Ben confused IAFP's History with Bug Trivia and shared Julian Cox's information about the 1960's, and this evolved into a broader discussion about the IAFP and its membership. The discussion then turned back to Bill Keene and some of the outbreaks he had been involved in. This included a Salmonella Panama outbreak (not to be confused with Van Halen's Panama), which was the first outbreak that was solved through the innovative use of supermarket loyalty cards and that Bill and others were sued for (the lawsuit was eventually dropped.. The guys then discussed outbreak investigation in some detail and that public health officials are damned if they do and damned if they don't name commodities and suppliers. There is of course always a risk of getting the epidemiology wrong, as was the case with Salmonella Saintpaul in peppers. Finally, Bill's investigation of a Norovirus outbreak reminded Ben of a recent Norovirus outbreak in Las Vegas. Then Ben commented on an exchange with Chris Gunter, who was presenting on traceability for small producers at the 2013 Strawberry Expo. Chris' presentation is based on the investigation of an E. coli O157 outbreak related to strawberries, in which Bill Keene played a part. In the after dark, the guys reflected on mortality and that we should all Enjoy Every Sandwich. And because they love him, Rob Ford got a mention again and again.
