In today's episode I have the privilege of talking to Jeff Medders and Doug Logan Jr. about their new book "The Soul Winning Church: Six Keys to Fostering a Genuine Evangelistic Culture." In our conversation Jeff and Doug share about the their individual experiences in the church that led to this book being written; why they think we struggle so hard as churches to focus on soul-winning; and how we keep evangelism from just becoming another ministry in the church. The book is published by The Good Book Company and will be on book shelves August 1st! J.A. Medders is the Director of Theology and Content for Send Network, a preacher, podcaster, and the author of multiple books including Humble Calvinism and The Soul-Winning Church. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in biblical spirituality from the Southern Baptist Theology Seminary. Jeff is a native of Houston, Texas, where he lives with his wife, Natalie, and two children. You can follow his writing and ministry at spiritualtheology.net. Dr. Doug Logan, Jr. is the President and Dean of Grimké School of Urban Ministry. He also serves as a Council member of The Gospel Coalition. He is the Pastor of Church Planting at Remnant Church in Richmond, Virginia, and the author of The Soul-Winning Church and On The Block: Developing a Biblical Picture for Missional Engagement. In 2011, he planted Epiphany Fellowship of Camden, New Jersey, with his wife, Angel. They have three adult sons, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Good writing is provocative. It grabs your attention, not as click bait, but because it resonates with reality一it names the ache you feel in everyday life. It emboldens you to stay in the fight, to forgive, to grow.   Unfortunately, it's easier to be predictable than prophetic. On one hand, some writers go over the top to gain attention, without offering people something of substance. But on the other hand, thoughtful writers sometimes come off predictable and, in the end, few people pay attention.   Today's guest has the rare gift of both substance and style. Dr. Mason, who pastors Epiphany Fellowship in Philadelphia, shares with senior editor Will Anderson:    Why followers of Jesus should write about topics that raise eyebrows How to interact and listen to your audience, to help you write better Why writing is one of the primary ways God changes the world   If you desire to fuel your own writing life and vision, make sure to listen to the end. Dr. Mason drops some encouragement that will inspire and fuel your craft.       EPISODE LINKS   Subscribe to Will's weekly newsletter: willparker.me Please rate this podcast: Apple | Spotify Will's Instagram: @willparkeranderson Will's LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/willparkeranderson/ Dr. Mason's website: https://www.pastoremase.com/

Host & Executive Producer - Latasha Morrison Senior Producer - Lauren C. It makes us fully in the image of God through being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.” -Dr. Mason "In the era of misinformation, in the era of information memes and urban legends, biblical literacy is a must. We cannot assume that people understand the faith." -Dr. Mason “Urban Apologetics is not just for Black people. This is for Christians. These are books that our white brothers and sisters should be getting and teaching from also.” -Tasha “The devil always over promises and under delivers.” -Dr. Mason “So if repetition exegetically is a sign of biblical emphasis, then we need to emphasize what God emphasizes. And if Jesus pulls justice as a hermeneutical lens to use in interpreting the Bible, we should.” -Dr. Mason “Justice is a reflection of God's character.” -Dr. Mason “You can't be a Christian and not deal with justice. It's unchristian to ignore justice.” -Dr. Mason “Can you imagine having to answer to Jesus that you left a church because the pastor was calling you to value a person because they weren't treated justly?” -Dr. Mason “You will know racial reconciliation is happening in your church when white people can submit to Black people.” -Dr. Mason “I think that it's very important that there be a racial IQ growth in the body of Christ.” -Dr. Mason Links: Dr. Eric Mason: https://www.pastoremase.com/ Epiphany Fellowship: https://www.epiphanyfellowship.org/ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC76WVwO_8jULaF3i0oVJF0g Lands of the Bible Cruise 2022 with Dr. Eric Mason, Dr. Bryan Loritts, Pastor Albert Tate, and Lecrae: http://www.eo.travelwithus.com/tours/pf22101622c58465#eotours LISTEN & SUBSCRIBE Podcast link: https://podlink.to/BeTheBridgeSocial handles/links: Instagram: @LatashaMorrisonTwitter: @LatashaMorrisonFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/LatashaMMorrison/Official Hashtag: #bethebridge Be The Bridge Podcast Survey https://forms.gle/CtssQibbH9Ct7Qdx6 --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Learn more about Rechab https://www.cottagegrovedsm.comHow do we seek out our own blind spots in regard to prejudice, biases, or racism? What questions should we be asking? What particular story of racial injustice has affected you the most? How do you dialogue/engage a Christian who is not ready to have conversations about racism in their life and in the life of the church? Is this different from not being ready to have conversations about abuse (caring well), pornography, etc.? Ethnic Conciliation Mission StatementAffirming Imago Dei (every human life bears the image of God) and through biblical community relationships, we strive to confront the sin of racism. Grounded in the truth and hope of God’s Word, we press into hard conversations asking, listening, and learning about experiences beyond our own to gain a deeper understanding from our marginalized brothers and sisters in faith. We commit to learning individually and collectively from Scripture, each other, and other resources that speak directly to racial issues, inequalities, and injustices. We will use our voices in our circles of influence to speak the truth to policies, institutions, and individuals concerning racism. Finally, we recognize our utter dependence on God’s grace and strength for this journey in seeking to walk together more effectively, and that His Glory through His son Jesus is our greatest calling.
