Perth outfit Voyager are the toast of the nation after narrowly missing out on victory in the recent Eurovision Australia Decides competition.Musically, the band are best described as a progtastic pop metal outfit, but in reality they are much more.Successfully combining a multitude of genres and packaging them into an eclictic sonic blast that obviously resonates on a wider level, Voyager might have lost the battle but they most definitely did not lose the war.The band have announced a hometown show at the Badlands bar on April 29 and have plans to take their live performance far and wide in celebration of a monumental effort that should lay the platform for a grand future.Drummer Ash Doodkorte Joined HEAVY to chat about the contest and everything surrounding it."I don't think things will ever feel normal again after that experience,” he laughed, “but that's a very good thing. We're still riding a massive high, just getting that People's Vote set me up for life. I don't ever think I could get disappointed again (laughs). It was such an amazing experience coming back with that. That's the big W for me, I'm absolutely stoked."Eurovision is about much more than who wins or loses. It is an experience and celebration of music and one which Ash says will have a lasting effect on Voyager."It was insane,” he beamed. “I think we were the only people there who had not done TV before, so it was completely different. When we did our rehearsal and they filmed the whole thing and we watched it back we realised that what you do on stage with the crowd of people in front of you does not translate to TV at all. Everybody looks about five times smaller when you're on a stage that big. When you're thrashing around and doing your thing it looks awesome if you're in the crowd but when you're on a big stage and looking at a camera it's like you're not moving at all. That's one of the first things you learn. If you feel like you're doing too much you're probably just doing enough. That was a very big lesson."In the full interview, Ash talks about the lead in to the event and how the band handled themselves, behind the scenes details and what they learnt, the song they chose to represent the band and why it was chosen, what experiences the band will take out of the last couple of months, releasing a beer line to accompany the lead-in, future shows and more.

Ahead of her return to the Eurovision — Australia Decides, Jaguar Jonze talks to BW about song writing, how she plans to bring the drama to the Eurovision stage, and her pivotal role in sparking off the MeToo movement in the Australian music industry. Welcome to Episode 98 of Caught My Ear! This week, we discuss the announcement of ABBA's retirement, the new contestants for 2022's Eurovision: Australia Decides and our tracks of the week. We also recommended a special song for you guys to listen to. Enjoy!
The first artists have been revealed who will compete for the opportunity to represent Australia in Italy in 2022.
During Episode 8, Mikey Jayy of KGUP PRESENTS travels to Australia to talk with Pop Artist, Deena Lynch of Jaguar Jonze. Jaguar Jonze is one of the most talented artists on the rise and recognized for her songs, "Rising Sun", "Rabbit Hole", and "You Got Left Behind". Even though she only appeared in the music scene a little over a year ago, Deena has become one of the most recognizable new artists for her appearance on the cover of Style Magazine. She also had one of the most memorable live performances at this year's Eurovision — Australia Decides 2020 competition, and for her award winning song, "Beijing Baby". More about Jaguar Jonze Much of Deena’s success stems from her instincts. At the age of 19, she fell into music after a close friend passed away. While walking home one day, she passed a garage sale, where she bought her first guitar on a whim. Without a single lesson, she was writing songs to help manage her grief. “He was always in my ear about living life passionately—he could see that I was falling into this societal structure of doing what everyone expects you to,” she says. “He left behind so much; amazing artwork, poetry and film. He was/is inspiring.” Find more of Jaguar Jonze https://jaguarjonze.com Instagram All Music platforms --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/kgup-presents/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/kgup-presents/support

George Floyd's death at the hands of a police officer has caused an outpouring of anger, prompting national protests in cities across the US. The world looks on as America grapples with ongoing racism, police brutality, protests - all in the midst of a pandemic. And here in Australia, it's made us look at the way in which we have mistreated our First Nations people, for centuries. At the weekend tens of thousands of Australians peacefully protested the death of Indigenous people in police custody. And so while this podcast usually sets out to solve the world's less pressing issues, I wanted to ensure that we acknowledge that systemic racism is a massive problem that should be talked about.Mitch Tambo is a proud Gamilaraay man who has brought his First Nations culture to Australia’s Got Talent, Eurovision: Australia Decides, and the massive Fire Fight fundraiser concert that took place back in February. Mitch is passionate about his own culture but also very keen to help others embrace theirs. Though this episode was recorded prior to George Floyd's death, Mitch's insights speak so well into the current climate - particularly the urgent need for understanding, respect and an ability to listen well.Mitch Tambo is on Facebook @MitchTambo and on Instagram @MitchTambo. His new song LOVE is out now on all streaming platforms. Our conversation will continue in our next episode (dropping this Thursday) as we cross to the United States to discuss Black Lives Matter and systemic racism.
