„Le Freak“ hat Hits geliefert. Unfassbar viele Hits. Die er entweder geschrieben, produziert oder performt hat – oder alles drei zusammen: „Good Times“, „We Are Family“, „Lost in Music“, „Everybody Dance“, „I Want Your Love“ mit seinen Bands Chic und Sister Sledge. „Upside Down“ von Diana Ross, „Let's Dance“ von David Bowie, „Like a Virgin“ von Madonna.

In this interview, Emmy Award-winner Dan Watt joins Teisha for an exciting and heartfelt conversation about his journey from dancer to director, producer, and documentary filmmaker–and all the pivots and setbacks in between. We begin by exploring Dan's love for performance, recalling childhood memories of putting on neighborhood shows, learning ballroom dance in his parents' basement, and having his natural rhythm discovered by his dance teacher during a freshman talent show—early experiences that planted the seeds for his future in the arts. Next, we dive into the depths of his incredible career, including the early challenges he faced such as fierce competition and personal rejection like being told he was “too masculine” for a Janet Jackson video; his transition to director in which he choreographed 100+ sold-out performances like Annie and Foot Loose, and worked to increase access of lesser known productions by bringing them to the L.A. market where they became unexpected hits; and his break into TV and film in which he spent 10 years working with Columbia Pictures and Simon Cowell realizing the value of transferable skills and age-based wisdom–but not before he experienced a discriminating rejection by the Dr. Phill Show. Then, we zoom in on his greatest challenge—and most rewarding project—producing the Emmy Award-winning documentary, Everybody Dance, a film that follows children with disabilities who find joy and empowerment through dance; discuss how spending 10 months filming these families profoundly changed Dan forever, opening his eyes to the daily challenges these kids face and the incredible strength and resilience they show; and highlight how the experience deepened his understanding of disability inclusion and inspired him to continue creating projects that give a voice to underrepresented communities. Packed with humor, insight, and real-life lessons on overcoming adversity, this episode is a must-listen for anyone passionate about storytelling, the arts, and making a difference. There is no contemporary pop music without Nile Rodgers. Born in 1952, Rodgers grew up playing classical music on flute and clarinet before picking up jazz guitar. And at age 20, alongside bass player Bernard Edwards, Rodgers formed the band Chic. They wrote the biggest disco hits of the 70s, like: “Dance Dance Dance,” “Everybody Dance,” “Le Freak," and "Good TImes," which formed the core of Sugarhill Gang's “Rapper's Delight”. In his music career spanning six decades, Rodgers has produced and played on some of the biggest pop songs in history, for artists like Sister Sledge, Diana Ross, David Bowie, Madonna, Daft Punk, and Beyoncé. He is also the chair of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, so with the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony taking place this June, we invited him onto Switched on Pop to talk about the making of a great song. There is no area of "bitcoin building" subject to more political scrutiny than mining. Broken Record with Rick Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Bruce Headlam and Justin Richmond

Today we are revisiting one of our favorite early episodes of Broken Record with the legendary producer, Nile Rodgers. Over the course of his five decade-long career, Nile Rodgers has performed on, written, and produced some of the greatest dance songs of all time, including Diana Ross's “I'm Coming Out,” Daft Punk's “Get Lucky,” and Madonna's “Like A Virgin.” Back in Fall of 2018, Nile met up with Bruce Headlam at the same New York City recording studio where 35 years earlier, Nile recorded the Let's Dance album with David Bowie. This time around, Nile brought his famed disco funk band Chic to the interview to perform live renditions of their classic hits including, “Le Freak,” “Good Times,” and “Everybody Dance.” So all the music you will hear in today's episode was recorded live, just for us. In between performances, Nile shares exhilarating stories from his life, including how he found salvation as a young jazz guitarist whose teenage mom struggled with heroin addiction. Nile also talks about the night he played old James Brown tunes with Prince and Rolling Stones guitarist Ron Wood at a small club in London. And he explains what it was like going clubbing with Madonna as her star was starting to explode in the mid-'80s. You can listen to a playlist of some of our favorite songs produced by Nile Rodgers HERE.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
