As you know at CSWL our hosts hail from so many generations, and no recent show touched as many generations so profoundly as Friends, including Matthew Perry's beloved character Chandler Bing. The Funny One will long be a favorite of ours and so many others. While we will most likely cover other Friends episodes in the future- for now- we rewind to our last year's coverage of the Friends Thanksgiving… RIP Matthew Perry. Listen in to hear the different generations take on the iconic show. How progressive the show was for its time. Each character's role and idea of Thanksgiving. Why we still love it so much to this day. The CSWL multi-gen cast breaks down this lesser-known late 80's Thanksgiving Day cartoon. Those classic specials we love due to childhood sentiments and those specials we love due to quality (ie Home Alone and It's a Wonderful Life.) The comic section of the Sunday paper and comic strips of the past. What Snoopy had to do with Garfield and are you a Snoopy person or a Garfield one? Charlie Brown Thanksgiving vs. Garfield and Friends Thanksgiving. More Gen Z argument(s) to cancel this special (add it to the list) and debates over why it's not a classic. Today - The Montrose Community Dinners board weighed concerns over COVID-19 against members' hopes to bring back the in-person Friends Thanksgiving Dinner. Ultimately they decided that this year must be to-go and delivery only once again. Also, United States Representative Lauren Boebert's office announced mobile office hours on November 3rd, 12th, and 16th. Staff from Boebert's office will be available to allow constituents to request assistance with federal agencies— like veterans having trouble with the VA, travelers having difficulties applying for a passport, IRS difficulties, and senior citizens having issues with Social Security or Medicare. This week, even though it is after Thanksgiving, we will spend some time on Thanksgiving entertainment. First, John was able to watch Peppermint, and listen as he explains that he is finally coming around to liking Jennifer Garner. Next, Dhani talks about the movie The Children Act. This doesn't take long because she was quite disappointed in the film. She still loves Emma Thompson, but the movie did not rise to meet her talent. Then we move on the Netflix movie The Christmas Chronicles starring Kurt Russell as Santa Claus. Dhani really enjoyed this new take on the story of Santa and teaching kids to believe. Then John and Dhani finally finished the latest season of the Great British Bake Off and they gush over this amazing season and the bakers on the show. Last week Dhani forgot to list her favorite Thanksgiving movies, so she lists these even though the holiday is over. I think they work for the entire holiday season, so perhaps people can still enjoy them for the next few weeks anyway. And finally, instead of an Actors' Corner this week, we are ranking our Top 5 Friends Thanksgiving episodes and comparing our choices to the podcast Pop Culture Nickel. Dhani is a super fan of Friends, so forgive her for perhaps going on a bit about her love of the show... but it is an interesting discussion. Peppermint (2:06) The Children Act (8:10) The Christmas Chronicles (11:12) The Great British Bake Off (17:21) Thanksgiving Movies (23:46) Top 5 Friends Thanksgiving Episodes (29:50)

New episode! We were definitely on a break, but now we're back to take care of some unfinished business. Last year Matty and Alex set out on a quest to watch every Friendsgiving episode with their pals Chris and Andrea, but they only made it 5/9ths of the way through. Now nothing will stand in their way of viewing the final four episodes - not even Chandler's severed toe. Join the four of us as we learn what it truly means to be a "Friend!"
AKA "The One with the Cow's Opinion" - In this episode, Sara brings on her friend, co-worker and fellow Friends enthusiast Katie to chat all about each and every Thanksgiving themed Friends episode. So much turkey, so little time...
Xandra Robinson-Burns and Junie Burns discuss the Friends Thanksgiving episodes. Discussion Qs: Ross’s mom made mashed potatoes with lumps, Phoebe’s mom made them whipped with peas and onions, and Joey’s mom made tater tots. How does your mom make Thanksgiving potatoes? Chandler gets a computer with ‘Full spreadsheet capabilities’, so they make a pro/con spreadsheet when Ross is deciding between Julie and Rachel. What spreadsheets have you created for personal use? Monica and Ross aren’t allowed to play football. What makes you so competitive it shouldn’t be allowed? Rachel always exchanges her presents. When is it okay to exchange a gift you have received? Season 5 flashes back to ‘all the Thanksgivings’. How have your Thanksgiving celebrations changed through the years? Rachel makes a traditional English trifle (with meat). What’s your signature Thanksgiving dessert? Chandler doesn’t like dogs. Ross doesn’t like ice cream. What popular thing do you dislike? Joey challenges himself to eat the entire Thanksgiving turkey on his own. What is the most you’ve ever eaten? Monica doesn’t want to use the fancy wedding china because she’s afraid of breaking it. What do you own that is so fancy you’re saving it, or are afraid to use it? Joey adds ‘Fire’ to Rock Paper Scissors. Phoebe adds ‘Water Balloon’. What would you add to Rock Paper Scissors? For a change this week, Dhani doesn't have any movies to talk about... so we focus on a few TV shows and then the Actors' Corner. First, Dhani talks about the Showtime show called Kidding with Jim Carrey. Then she discusses the latest season of American Horror Story: Apocalypse. Next, Dhani watched the new Netflix show The Kominsky Method starring Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin. Next, it's tough for Dhani to go without talking about her favorite show Blackish and since they hit their 100th episode, plus it was a tribute to Prince, she had to mention it! Next, we get to the Actors' Corner with Jim Carrey. We discuss the works of Jim Carrey's that we love, like, hate, secretly love, haven't seen and want to see. Finally, we reiterate that we are working next week with the podcast Pop Culture Nickel to rank the Top 5 Friends Thanksgiving episodes. Listen to their podcast the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to hear their Top 5, and then the Sunday after Thanksgiving, John and Dhani will compare their Top 5 to Marc and Jeannette's of Pop Culture Nickel. Kidding (5:35) AHS: Apocalypse (10:03) The Kominsky Method (14:10) Blackish (22:00) Actors' Corner: Jim Carrey (24:45) Pop Culture Nickel (41:10)

In Episode 23, we talk about the death of Marvel genius Stan Lee, the new family photo of the British Royal Family (and imagine what was going on behind the scenes), an SNL sketch from 2017 that made a real-world impact on a multi-billion dollar movie franchise and the new TV network from HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines. In our Marquee Topic, after rewatching all 10 Thanksgiving episodes of “Friends,” we discuss our personal favorites, our least favorite, the BEST overall, the MVP of the episodes, what was most fun to see change over the course of 10 years and why Thanksgiving episodes are particularly fun to watch. PLUS, in our Teasers this week, Josh recommends a recent “Saturday Night Live” sketch and Maureen recommends a podcast on personal finance. Last note! No new episode next week - we are taking a week off to spend Thanksgiving with our family. We'll be back with a brand new episode on November 30! Email us at thepoppedcast@vernacularpodcast.com! Woodworking with Jennifer In this episode: Void is experiencing technical difficulties, so Beej’s wife, Jennifer, hops on the mic in his place to talk about what she geeks out about: woodworking. And not just woodworking. We talk about pop culture, Logan, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, and all sorts of YouTube channels. And rip fences. We talk a lot about rip fences. Jennifer explains how a super geeky woman becomes just as interested in table saws and power tools as she is about American literature, superheroes, and feminism. Weekly Geekery Jennifer tells us about why Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is amazing, our new Friends Thanksgiving episode tradition, and how libraries can reach out to the public through laundromats! Beej is excited about Bowser’s Castle in Super Mario Odyssey, the Garmin Forerunner 235 gps watch, and the Steam Link and Steam Controller that’s on its way to his house.
