In today's episode 45 of HubnSpoke we ask the question, What is the best automated sales and marketing tool for business? The answer is none of them if you don't plan to make a significant investment in training and change management. The business case for automated sales and marketing software programs is compelling. We are talking about software like HubSpot, Marketo, Infusionsoft, Pardot, and Eloqua. These platforms can make a significant difference to your business. But you must invest the time required to deploy and training your staff on the programs.   Marketers using automation software generate 2X the number of leads than those using blast email software and are perceived by their peers to be 2X as effective at communicating. (Autopilot, 2015) (Source: https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics) Without a dedicated investment in time, then the platform will not be successfully deployed, and the results will not come, through no fault of the software. # 44: The Power of Evergreen Content on Your Website

Play Episode Listen Later May 31, 2017 19:56

Are you creating evergreen content? Evergreen content is content that has an unlimited shelf life. Ideally, you wish to create content that is rising the Google search engine rankings. It takes a long time to get your pages ranked on Google. If you are producing content that is helpful to your prospects, then your content is always helpful. The longevity of most content, particularly if it is not related to a short term sale or a season means that many of your website pages are solving customer problems for a long time. Inbound marketing is the process of using content to guide your prospects down the sales funnel on your site. It's the process of attracting people, then engaging them with useful content, and converting them into appropriate actions and offers. Finally the process of then delighting them by actually having them as customers.   75% of HubSpot's blog views and 90% of blog leads come from old posts. (HubSpot, 2014) (Source: https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics) The first step it to always make sure you're answering people's questions, providing content that is relevant to the people coming to your website. Engaging, entertaining, educating, visually attractive, strong content, not just wishy-washy words on pages. Keyword focused, making sure that you're going to capture people's attention, I guess. If it's content that you're posting on social media, with a link back to your website, making sure that visual is strong, with really catchy headline   I think that's critical. If you're going to get ROI out of inbound marketing, you have to create content. Make sure that content is evergreen then you can use social media to post the content to the world on a regular and consistent schedule. The reason why we now have to take this on board and embrace it is that the world of sales has completely changed.   47% of buyers viewed 3-5 pieces of content before engaging with a sales rep. (Demand Gen Report, 2016) (Source: https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics)   The consumers have all the power. They're the ones who can read the websites, discover, and learn what's out there all the websites of the world. As business people, it's absolutely part of your job now to create content and provide information to the customers via your website. Most importantly, you've got to go ahead and go through the process of creating content for your website. If you want to get ROI, you've just got to do it. Let's put that into perspective. It's all well and good to say, "Let's create content," but let's talk about actual volumes of content. We're not talking about a page a month, a blog a month. We're talking about a blog a day, making it evergreen means the investment last for a long time.

It's the HubnSpoke flashback episode. We go back to the basics of the reason why we have a podcast. Why is it called Hub and Spoke? Creating the content on your website is the central point. From here you are able to publish your content and distribute them through social media channels. Inbound marketing is all about getting more leads and sales from your website. But what is your strategy to get your content out there?   Companies that published 16+ blog posts per month got about 4.5X more leads than companies that published 0-4 monthly posts.  (HubSpot, 2015) (Source: https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics)   Publishing content with links back to your website via social media generates leads traffic. Free traffic that you would otherwise only get through using ad engines like Google Adwords and Facebook paid to advertise. Push out your content to as many different locations as possible, making sure you have a link back to the website. This is the Hub and Spoke publishing theory. The HubSpot form tool is a key to the success of your inbound marketing sales-lead generating website. {{cta('fe87b0fe-0e42-4c90-8c96-14e7b0bce7c0')}} What is the HubSpot Form Tool? This is what HubSpot say about their form tool. Build custom forms that connect to your contacts database. Easily create custom forms in seconds, and start converting anonymous visitors into qualified leads. Just drag and drop the questions you want to ask right into place – no technical expertise necessary. Create custom fields, or select from a dozen different field types such as open text fields, dropdowns menus, radio select buttons, check boxes, and more. Then add your form to any HubSpot landing page, or embed it on to any external website. https://www.hubspot.com/products/marketing/forms Having the form tool optimised will ensure that you are harvesting critical data that you can use to nurture your prospects and convert them into customers. Why only four forms? Surprisingly, there is a strong belief that you only should be considering four forms for your automated sales and marketing platform. One is the contact us form. Everybody has and needs a contact us form. But what are the other three? Then three other forms that match the stage of your data in your sales funnel. Top of Funnel, Middle of Funnel and Bottom of the funnel are powerful concepts. (TOFU, MOFU, BOFU) Click here to discover more about TOFU, MOFU and BOFU. Each stage should have their separate forms. Progressive polling is a vital part of the HubSpot pro and enterprise solutions that allow you to harvest more data from your prospect every time they fill out a form. This is a fundamental difference in the power of digital marketing by comparison to traditional marketing. If HubSpot recognises the user's cookie, previously captured fields are replaced by new more qualifying questions. Each time a form is submitted progressive polling represents new fields encouraging your prospect to contribute data that helps you understand more about them The more your sales prospect trust you, the greater the amount of data you can progressively harvest from them. Growth Hacker, Zaahn Johnson today talks about the workflows recipe tool which is a super helpful way of building a word for recipe for your business Use the workflow recipe tools to create the basic workflow, and from there you can clone and improve your workflow strategy quickly.

The HubnSpoke podcast team of Zaahn Johnson and Adam Steinhardt talk about Five Hidden Keys to HubSpot Success. How do you ensure HubSpot is successful for your business? We take the SMART acronym and turn it on its head to get a new perspective on how to make HubSpot and inbound marketing work for your business. S = Sales Training M = Management Buy In A = Application R = Remove the Haters T = Time, give it time If you are not sure what HubSpot is, you can discover a demonstration movie here. S = Sales Training Sales Training is critical. There is no magic wand in HubSpot. Sales people are the ultimate determinate of your success. Sales training is critical. HubSpot will get your more leads, but your business will only grow if you sales people recognise and act on those leads. The HubSpot sales and marketing platform, when deployed correctly, will deliver more leads to your sales team. To maximise your HubSpot investment, your sales team will need to be able to convert. How much is HubSpot? It is a sizable investment, leading many people to question whether it's worth it. "Is HubSpot worth the money? Will HubSpot work?" The fact is, a well-supported HubSpot portal will generate more leads. But is your sales force able to convert them? As a sales leader, are you lost in the marketing technology age? Marketing tech and predictive data only work for your sales team if you know how to use it. Your team needs to be on the cutting edge of marketing technology. HubSpot gives you the tools to fire up your ageing sales skills. Sales and marketing have changed in the last decade. It's now the not-so-golden-age of Seller Beware. The Buyer now has all the power, and they are not about to give it back. It is strongly recommended that your business has HubSpot training, or works on retainer with a HubSpot Partner, like The Kingdom. M = Management Has your company management team bought into the inbound marketing process? Executive management needs to fully support and understand the process inbound marketing and digital marketing. That means allocating the time, resources, and budget to allow your marketing team or HubSpot partner to develop the portal. A company who spends 6 months and a couple thousand on their HubSpot portal won't see the value, because they never invested fully in HubSpot or gave it the opportunity to succeed. A = Application The more determined your organisation is to succeed, the better inbound marketing will work for you. Great HubSpot and inbound marketing happens when the entire organisation is brought on board and the marketing and sales team work together to get their customer's questions answered and their site fine-tuned into a lead-generating sales funnel. R = Remove the haters HubSpot deployment means change management. This can intimidate some employees that are entrenched in their old ways. Communication and extra training is needed to inspire them. Failing to do this results in a destructive force that can ruin your best intentions from the inside. Removing these naysayers from the HubSpot implementation and its oversight is absolutely critical to success. For haters that can't be sent on their way, try adapting your language and approach to get their buy-in. T = Time. HubSpot Needs Time Inbound marketing needs time. The HubSpot feature set is robust and extensive. It takes time to master the tools. It takes time to create your website content. It takes time for content marketing to gain traction with Google Search Engines. B2B marketers say the #1 benefit of marketing automation is the ability to generate more and better leads. (Pepper Global, 2014) (Source: https://www.hubspot.com/marketing-statistics)   HubSpot is not like traditional media. It takes time to gain momentum. Time is one of the fundamental difference between digital media and traditional media. Many people ask what is better digital or traditional? Find out the answer here. HubnSpoke team of Adam Steinhardt and Zaahn Johnson return to continue their mission in this edition, to drill down deep into the features of HubSpot and begin to address some of those under-utilised and misunderstood aspects of HubSpot, a powerful cloud-based sales and marketing platform. HubSpot’s diverse set of software tools can mean that even the most experienced Hubspotter can at times feel overwhelmed. Recent tools revealed as part of Inbound 2016 have added even more power across the sales, marketing and CRM, allowing you to maximise the effectiveness of inbound methodology in new and dynamic ways. Social Media Expert, Zaahn Johnson takes the lead this week, with an in-depth examination of the hidden power of HubSpot integration, Bit.ly: Understanding Bit.ly Bit.ly was first established in 2008 as a tool with a very practical purpose - to shorten URLs for Twitter. Originally, it broke links down into 8 characters to give you more character space. That function remains a defining feature of bit.ly but, things have now evolved beyond Twitter and the function persists as an even more valueable tool. The bit.ly website is free to use to a certain point, but there are paid tiers to getting the most out of it. The most powerful aspect of bit.ly is that it stores all of the links you shorten. Beyond that, you can also see the number of clicks the link has had. How To Use Bit.ly You can connect your indeividual bit.ly account to HubSpot, so what this means if you don’t connect your account to HubSpot and your links get shortened they become Hubs.ly links. Bit.ly have allowed businesses to purchase their own domain for their platform, though before you go and purchase your own personalized links, you’ll want to do your research on what competitive advantage you can gain from it will be. One thing to consider is whether using a Hubs.ly link is going to reveal to your competitors that you are using the HubSpot platform, potentially giving away a serious competitive advantage you have in the market. When you can utilize the same functionality, while remaining ambiguous when you post, it won't be a feature for everyone.

Recent tools revealed as part of Inbound 2016 have added even more power across the sales, marketing and CRM, allowing you to maximise the effectiveness of inbound methodology in new and dynamic ways. Are you getting the most out of the full breadth of HubSpot features? We begin our examination with a common confusion amongst Hubspotters in the marketing and sales funnel: A Closer Look At The Lifecycle Stages Tool This is both an underrated and misunderstood feature of HubSpot, discoverable in both the Sales and Marketing dashboards in Contact Properties. It is also one of the most important features, as it really is the driver of HubSpot’s true power. Unsure why? Let us explain. At its core, HubSpot is about creating websites that generate leads for your business. Using the inbound methodology, people will discover your website, learn about your business, begin to trust you as a source of information and then become a lead for you to do business with. There are two sorts of leads in the HubSpot sales funnel: Sales Qualified Leads (SQL) and Marketing Qualified Leads (MQL). SQL are those entered into the system by your sales staff. They have done the work, they have created the interest and will hopefully be able to nurture this lead into a customer through their direct contact with them.
