Although the Emmy Awards were just earlier this year in January due to the SAG-AFTRA strike in summer and fall of 2023, we're back into the Emmy season once again as April and May find networks and streamers cramming content under the wire to hit the May 31 deadline. On episode 226 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, Editor-In-Chief Erik Anderson and TV Editor Tyler Doster break down the top categories for a preview of what this new Emmy race could look like. We start with the most competitive section of this year's race, Limited or Anthology Series or Movie categories. While other top series categories have been expanded to eight nomination slots by the Television Academy, Limited or Anthology Series have just the classic five and as each year sees a meteoric rise in limited series content, it's going to be one of the toughest races in decades with Shōgun (FX), Fargo (FX), Lessons in Chemistry (AppleTV+), True Detective: Night Country (HBO/Max), Feud: Capote vs The Swans (FX), Masters of the Air (AppleTV+), The Regime (HBO/Max), Ripley (Netflix), Fellow Travelers (Showtime), The Sympathizer (HBO/Max) and more all vying for one of those previous five spots. That's before you even get into the acting categories, which could prove to be even more cutthroat with A-list Oscar winners like Jodie Foster, Kate Winslet, Brie Larson, Julianne Moore, Nicole Kidman and Michael Douglas in the mix. In Comedy, we have several returning winners and previous nominees in the race (like Abbott Elementary (ABC), Hacks (HBO/Max) and reigning champ The Bear), shows waving farewell like Curb Your Enthusiasm (HBO/Max) and Reservation Dogs (FX), and new hopefuls like Palm Royale (AppleTV+) and The Gentlemen (Netflix). But it's Drama that has proven to be the bleakest of the bunch, with so many non-returning shows that it's practically an easy coronation for The Crown (Netflix) in its final season. We'll see The Morning Show (AppleTV+) for its third season but after that it's a Wild West of programs never nominated like The Gilded Age (HBO/Max), Loki (Disney+) and Slow Horses (AppleTV+) going up against a flood of new programming, some of which has or could be strategically submitted here instead of Limited Series where they more likely belong (like Showtime's The Curse or Prime Video's Mr. and Mrs. Smith, neither of which have been renewed for a second season). Na Netflixie pojawiła się adaptacja gry komputerowej "Resident Evil". Jak pokazują oceny, serial ten nie cieszy się dobrą opinią wśród fanów. Czy rzeczywiście jest tak źle?  Jestem prezesem fanklubu Milli Jovovich i zwłaszcza pierwszy "Resident Evil" z nią w roli głównej jest świetny. To absolutna klasyka. Świetny pomysł, który został świetnie zrealizowany. Uwielbiam ten film. Niestety, serialowi dałem na IMDb tylko dwie gwiazdki, a jego średnia wynosi 3,6 na 10. To oznacza, że jest bardzo źle. Szkoda tracić czasu na ten serial. Mówię to z żalem, bo to mogła być naprawdę dobra rzecz. - mówi Bartosz Węglarczyk.  Mnie to boli, bo zazwyczaj w przypadku takiego serialu powiedziałbym, że po prostu jest kiepski i lećmy dalej. Ale ja naprawdę od lat kibicuję adaptacjom gier komputerowych, a to się nadal nie udaje. In deze aflevering praten de geeks met hun gast Sonny Kempkes over de Three Flavours Cornetto-trilogie, ook wel bekend als de Blood and Ice Cream-trilogie: Shaun of the Dead (2004), Hot Fuzz (2007) en The World's End (2013), allemaal geregisseerd door Edgar Wright en geschreven door Wright en Simon Pegg. Welke dingen werken en welke niet? We hebben het over pesten, mannenvriendschappen en de vraag of twaalf pints echt veel zijn. Is het wel slim deze films achter elkaar te kijken of leidt tot muggenziften? De terugblik: Sonny vindt The Northman Eggers' minste film. Niet raar genoeg, alsof de studio te veel invloed had. Ook zag hij Moonfall: je vindt het of geweldig, of kut. Hij kiest het eerste juist omdat het echt trash is. Morbius daarentegen vond hij dodelijk saai. Linda keek King Richard (HBO Max) en vond het aardig, maar de rol van Will Smith zeker niet Oscar-waardig. The Dropout (Disney+) is onderdeel van de trend van series over oplichters. Deze is een aanrader, vooral vanwege het geweldige acteerwerk van Amanda Seyfried. Thom speelde Life Is Strange: True Colors, een game waarin je moet achterhalen waarom je broer dood is. Als speler heb je ultra-empathische gaven. Heel aardig, maar bijna te aardig. Voor zijn andere podcast Alle Geschiedenis Ooit keek hij Marie Antoinette, de film van Sofia Coppola. Hij vond de film fantastisch, vooral vanwege het beeld van popcultuur halverwege de jaren 00. De vooruitblik: Sonny heeft zin in seizoen 2 van Hacks (HBO Max), omdat hij zo hard moest lachen om seizoen 1. Hij probeert niet te enthousiast te zijn voor Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Thom deelt dat sentiment. Hij is evenzeer benieuwd/angstig over hoe de Dune-prequel serie Dune: The Sisterhood gaat zijn (verwacht in oktober 2023 op HBO Max). Linda verheugt zich op de feel good-vibes van Heartstopper (nu op Netflix), over de ontluikende liefde tussen twee jongens op de middelbare school.
