Could a simple breathing technique help release stress you've held for years, and strengthen your bones in the process? I'm excited to introduce you to a powerful healing practice I've recently added to my own routine: Clarity Breathwork. My dear friend and colleague, Robin Eisen, joins me to demonstrate how this gentle yet transformative breathwork method can reduce stress, release stored tension, and support your overall bone health.  As physical therapists, Robin and I have spent decades helping people strengthen their bodies, but we've both seen the profound impact unresolved stress and emotions can have on bone density, posture, and overall wellness.  Clarity Breathwork offers a safe and accessible way to address these deeper layers by helping you reconnect with your body, calm your nervous system, and let go of what no longer serves you. In this episode, Robin guides us through a beautiful 15-minute breathwork experience you can follow along with.  If this resonates with you, check the details of Robin's upcoming classes and resources to make breathwork a tool in your bone health journey!   "There's no magic bullet, so have your smorgasbord of what you need and what speaks to you. Healing is not about never feeling pain–it's about how you live and approach what comes up for you." ~ Robin Eisen, MS, PT   In this episode: [00:00] - Introduction to Robin Eisen and her expertise [03:42] - How emotions and trauma impact the body and bone health [06:16] - What makes clarity breathwork different from regular breathwork [13:40] - Embodiment warm-up and breath awareness practice [23:37] - Guided clarity breathwork session [38:37] - Using short breathwork practices in daily life [40:44] - What to do after a breathwork session & how to integrate it [42:28] - When to seek a practitioner for emotional processing [44:20] - Robin's programs, resources, and breathwork circles   Resources mentioned Get quality supplements at Margie's Fullscript dispensary for a discounted price - https://tinyurl.com/supplementsforless Robin Eisen's website - https://yourhealingjourney.net/ 5-Week Breathing Circle - https://yourhealingjourney.net/clarity/ - use coupon code MARGIE25 for 25% off Robin's previous podcast interviews: The Feldenkrais Method for Improved Bone and Overall Health - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toU--kt4cUM Breathing for Better Bones and Health - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVSAx4pdeps Feldenkrais Method for Strong Bones - https://www.happyboneshappylife.com/feldenkrais-method-for-strong-bones-on-demand-class    Happy Hips, Happy Back - https://www.happyboneshappylife.com/happy-hips-happy-back-replay     More about Margie Website - https://margiebissinger.com/  Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/p/Margie-Bissinger-MS-PT-CHC-100063542905332/  Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/margiebissinger/?hl=en    DISCLAIMER – The information presented on this podcast should not be construed as medical advice. Podcast Host CJ Miller interviews Dr. Renée Ostertag and Wilene Dunn about their new book, Getting My Happy Back: How to Think and What to Do When Body and Mind Collide. In this episode, Dr. Renée and Wilene delve into how their book combines personal stories with pain management techniques and insights into emotional intelligence. They discuss how the nervous system and our thoughts impact our experience of pain and tension, and how understanding this can lead to better self-improvement. The discussion includes practical advice on using Mark Brackett's Mood Meter, a tool that maps emotions to a color-coded grid, to help shift our emotional states. Dr. Renee explains that recognizing our physiological states—whether in the red, blue, yellow, or green quadrants—can aid in navigating and alleviating pain more effectively. Wilene shares a personal story about throat pain and how Dr. Renée's World Storytelling Process helps identify and address underlying causes. They highlight that naming and understanding our emotional experiences allows us to shift our states more fluidly, enhancing our mind-body connection. The episode also explores how stepping out of familiar comfort zones can be challenging due to chemical dependencies in the nervous system, but underscores the personal growth achievable through emotional and physical transformation. CJ uses his TikTok experience to illustrate how storytelling can reshape perspectives. Dr. Renée Ostertag, an award-winning health and wellness speaker, specializes in ergonomics, pain management, resilience, and nervous system regulation. As I thought about the pomp and circumstance surrounding the death of the Queen, the national remembrance of 9/11 and how we, as a country, grieve, it occurred to me that our losses are ranked. And those rankings reinforce our caste system, our gatekeeping. Why, for example, are flags lowered for government officials and foreign dignitaries? Are those losses more profound than the losses suffered by "regular" citizens? If we accept grief rankings, where else might we be reinforcing structures that do not honor and value people equitably? How do those systems and structures subtly influence the way we approach building classroom and campus culture? What kinds of inherent structures of honor are in place on your campus? Who do "norms" honor and center? Are there "norms" that can be rethought? Let these questions guide your reflections this week. And to support you in being a reflective practitioner, listen to Angela Watson of the 40 Hour Teacher Workweek Club in her powerful interview with Jennifer Gonzales. Being rested, balanced and regulated is THE best thing you can do to propagate a positive, supportive campus culture. Setting strong work-life boundaries is key. Finally, if you feel grief over the loss of the Queen, at the thought of 9/11 or at any other world impacting event; be true to your feelings. We feel what we feel, and that's ok. If others feel those losses less acutely, that's ok too. Reflection and acceptance are perfectly balanced, leaving no room for judgment. Script and useful expressions below.0:001 大家好,欢迎收听。 里程碑 | Lǐchéngbēi | milestone感慨 | gǎnkǎi | emotional, deeply moved经验 | jīngyàn | experience感想 | gǎnxiǎng | impression谦卑 | qiān bēi | humble过程 | guòchéng | process教学相长 | jiàoxuéxiāngzhǎng | Teaching each other互相 | hùxiāng | each other获得 | huòdé | get, acquire提高 | tígāo | improve, improvement感恩 | gǎn'ēn | grateful共同 | gòngtóng | common, together成长 | chéngzhǎng | grow1:173 今年不但是我的第十年,也是我第一年只教高中。 角 | jiǎo | corner草坪 | cǎopíng | lawn树林 | shùlín | forest, wood视野 | shìyě | view, vision开阔 | kāikuò | wide open心旷神怡 | xīnkuàngshényí | lit. heart untroubled, spirit pleased (idiom); carefree and relaxed2:034 今年是新冠疫情以来,第一年正常开学。 新冠疫情 | xīnguān yìqíng | COVID-19正常 | zhèngcháng | normal尝试 | chángshì | try庆祝 | qìngzhù | celebrate点外卖 | diǎn wàimài | order takeout上手 | shàngshǒu |  get hands-on包饺子 | bāo jiǎozi | wrap/make dumplings煮 | zhǔ | cook by boiling期待 | qídài | expect, anticipate想法 | xiǎngfǎ | idea, though实现 | shíxiàn | accomplish, realize充实 | chōngshí | enriching3:055. 助益 | zhù yì | help & benefit点赞 | diǎn zàn | like传播 | chuánbò | spread描述栏 | miáoshù lán | Description bar

Opening Bible Verse: Luke 4:20 Apparently even Jesus had paper to deal with! Oh the scrolls that seems to inundate us this time of year.  Back to school is like a clean slate.  Fresh crayons and new beginnings! This is the year to get it together. We are going to get organized and stay organized!  Well...let's do our best. In today's episode I share my super easy method for not just back to school papers but my secret to running my home like a tight ship. You will need: 1 3-ring binder with a front and back pocket.  Mine is only 1" thick for a family of 6 plus our dog.  You may need a thicker binder for a larger family. 1 pack of clear page protectors. The box has about 50 so you can do this project with a friend or two to make it even cheaper. Each child will get one or two clear pages to contain all their necessary paperwork. First page for each of my kids contains: Birth certificate Social Security Card Latest physical forms and immunization record Boy Scout Health Forms A, B, C, D. If you are a Scout mom, you know what this is! Bank account number/password/reward card Passport or copy of passport with the original in a safe Baptismal certificate Clearances Work Permit Copy of front and back of insurance card Any other original paperwork that you find yourself needing again and again Second Page for each kid contains: Specifics for that child's homeroom, policies, Zoom links/passwords, class birthday invite list The front pocket of my binder is for temporary storage of: proposals for my home improvement projects Popcorn/fundraising order forms along with the money Permission slips with any checks attached or insurance card copy attached. Any other papers that you will only need for a short period of time and that you want easy access to. Back pocket of binder contains: For my home it is only our long term ski rental agreement. We will need this again in October when we renew our skies for the season. Additional tips for paper clutter: 1. Try to deal with incoming paper ASAP 2. Try to only touch it once.  3. RSVP as soon as invitations arrive and take a photo of the invitation, put the date on the calendar. 4. Make it a game of trying to get rid of each paper that enters your home. 5. Revisit front pocket every few weeks to see if you still need to keep it. 6. If you can quickly find the information online, you can recycle or shred. Don't keep it! Happy Back to school! Happy Back-to-School Season! Whether you have already stepped boldly into the new school year or are frantically preparing for those upcoming first few days, all of us in the education world are hoping that 2022-2023 will be the best one yet! An important topic for any new school year is inclusivity; we should be asking ourselves how we can look for more inclusivity and make students' lives better. Join us to learn more from today's guest! Larkin O'Leary is president of Common Ground Society, an organization whose mission is to educate and empower people to be more compassionate, accepting, and inclusive of people with disabilities. She's a Google-certified teacher who knew teaching was her destiny since 4th grade, and she firmly embraced this destiny by marrying into a family full of teachers. A general education teacher since 2005, Larkin's passion is teaching and making connections with students, which she knows far outweighs the importance of academics. When her eight-year-old son, James, was born with Down Syndrome, hearing loss, and other medical issues, she knew that her teaching passion would intersect with advocacy work for inclusive education.  Show Highlights: How Common Ground Society was born because people want to learn more about inclusivity Why we need a perspective shift toward those with disabilities and special needs and learn to focus on what they CAN do Why we need differentiation even within special ed classrooms to accommodate different levels of learners–not a “one-size-fits-all” approach How our educational system is built on foundations that were created centuries ago—and those things aren't working anymore; we need a reset! What school districts should be doing to train teachers for inclusivity How we can teach kids about inclusivity and acceptance Larkin's advice to parents and educators Links/Resources: Connect with Larkin and Common Ground Society: https://commongroundsociety.org/ ( Website),https://www.facebook.com/commongroundsociety ( Facebook), andhttps://www.instagram.com/common.ground.society/ ( Instagram).
