Many women are not aware that the pelvic floor plays a key role in stabilization, posture, and overall bone health, whether you lift weights, practice balance exercises, or simply want to move confidently. In this episode, I'm joined by Isa Herrera, a licensed physical therapist and pelvic floor expert, to discuss why your pelvic floor is essential for strong bones. We explore common mistakes women make, such as ignoring the connection between the core, fascia, and the pelvic floor. Isa walks us through exercises like the transverse hold, baby Kegels, and reverse Kegels, demonstrating how to safely strengthen the pelvic floor and integrate it into your strength training program. By combining proper pelvic floor activation with targeted strength and stabilization exercises, you can reduce incontinence, improve posture, prevent injury, and enhance bone health. This conversation provides simple strategies you can start using today to strengthen your pelvic floor and support your bones for the long term. "When women take ownership of their pelvic and bone health, their whole lives change. And all of a sudden, they're happier, they're more confident, and they're doing the things they love." ~ Isa Herrera, MSPT, CSCS In this episode: - [03:17] - Why the pelvic floor is critical for bone health - [05:08] - Exercises to avoid: traditional crunches, heavy lifting, ballistic moves - [08:16] - Testing and correcting diastasis recti - [11:36] - The transverse hold: foundation exercise for the pelvic floor - [15:05] - Common pelvic floor issues and their impact on exercise and bones - [21:41] - Kegel exercises: technique and visualization - [26:49] - Full-body Kegel and pelvic brace: combining breath, fascia, and core - [33:31] - Adjusting exercises for symptoms: leaking, prolapse, pain Resources - On-demand pelvic floor masterclass - https://www.lk10ppt.com/2T4B5B1/2PKWQ8/?uid=304 - Vaginal Dryness eBook - https://www.lk10ppt.com/2T4B5B1/2PKWQ8/?uid=305 - Margie's More Natural Approaches to Exercise and Bone Health Summit (free to watch for 8 days) - https://www.happyboneshappylife.com/osteoporosis-bone-health-summit. - Get quality supplements at Margie's Fullscript dispensary - https://tinyurl.com/supplementsforless More about Margie - Website - https://margiebissinger.com/ - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/p/Margie-Bissinger-MS-PT-CHC-100063542905332/ - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/margiebissinger/?hl=en DISCLAIMER – The information presented on this podcast should not be construed as medical advice. Are you eating healthy but still missing the key nutrients your bones need? The truth is, it's not just what you eat, it's how you build your meals that makes a difference. In this episode, I'm joined by Ashley Ondrick, a personal chef, health coach, and author of the book Speranza: How Pain Became the Path to Hope, and she's here to talk about how to nourish your bones through simple, nutrient-dense nutrition. First, we discuss why undereating and low nutrient intake, especially with trends like GLP-1 medications, can increase the risk of bone loss, even in younger individuals. Ashley shares her story and how nutrient-dense foods helped her rebuild bone and restore her health. From there, we dive into the essentials: healthy fats, adequate protein, and minerals, all of which are critical for strong bones. We also talk about the importance of fiber and gut health, and how simple swaps like adding seeds, nuts, or vegetables to meals can boost your nutrition. Most importantly, Ashley shares realistic strategies to make healthy eating sustainable, even with a busy lifestyle. This is about creating a way of eating that supports your bones and feels good long-term. "I like it when I can get nourishing food that also tastes good. Because what I really advocate is not diets but just a lifestyle that you enjoy. So if you love chocolate, get that in your diet. Dark chocolate has a lot of minerals, and because of that, cacao is a superfood." ~ Ashley Ondrick In this episode: - [01:48] - The risk of bone loss with undereating and GLP-1 use - [04:25] - Why healthy fats are essential for hormones and bones - [07:21] - The importance of protein for bone strength and aging - [10:37] - Why minerals are vital for health (and how to get them) - [14:48] - Easy ways to boost fiber for gut and bone health - [21:17] - Meal prep tips to reduce overwhelm and stay consistent - [27:33] - Simple swaps to make meals more nutrient-dense - [29:04] - Why Ashley wrote Speranza: How Pain Became the Path to Hope - [34:26] - Shifting your mindset for complete healing Resources - Bone Nourishing Recipes - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TXcITREZxV9ddJDHWBLGmn2RmMtOutqh/view?usp=sharing - Ashley Ondrick's website with information about her programs, giveaways, book signings and events, the Speranza book club, group coaching, and more - https://www.mostlyhealthychef.com/contact - Margie's live class and Q&A - Strong Bones for Life - https://www.happyboneshappylife.com/strong-bones-for-life-may2026 - Osteoporosis Exercises to Strengthen Your Bones and Prevent Fractures - https://www.happyboneshappylife.com/new-osteoporosis-exercises-for-you - Get discounted supplements at Margie's Fullscript dispensary - https://tinyurl.com/happybonessupplements More about Margie - Website - https://margiebissinger.com/ - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/p/Margie-Bissinger-MS-PT-CHC-100063542905332/ - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/margiebissinger/?hl=en DISCLAIMER – The information presented on this podcast should not be construed as medical advice. Most women are not thinking about their bones until a fracture happens or a scan comes back alarmingly. By then, the window for the most impactful intervention has often been narrowing for decades. Bone density peaks around age 18, not 30 as widely believed and the slow decline that follows is largely silent until it isn't.Professor Belinda Beck, PhD has spent more than two decades studying exactly what it takes to stop and reverse that decline. She is a professor at Griffith University, founder of the Bloom Clinic in Brisbane, and the principal investigator behind the LIFTMORE trials, a body of research that changed the scientific consensus on what is actually possible for women with osteoporosis and osteopenia. Her findings showed that heavy resistance and impact training twice weekly can safely grow bone mineral density in the spine and hip, even in women already diagnosed with very low bone mass and prior osteoporotic fractures. This was not what the medical establishment expected. And it fundamentally changed how serious practitioners now think about bone. This episode is sponsored by Zen Basil. Did you know your thyroid might be a hidden factor affecting your bone health? In this episode, I'm joined by Dr. Hilda Maldonado, a renowned physician specializing in thyroid hormone and metabolic health for women over 40. Dr. Hilda has over 30 years of experience helping women understand their thyroid and its impact on bone health, especially after menopause. We dive into the critical connection between the thyroid and bone health, exploring how low thyroid function can contribute to bone loss and increase your risk for fractures. Dr. Hilda explains why so many people are told their thyroid is normal, even when they continue to experience symptoms like fatigue, weight changes, or brain fog. We also discuss the essential thyroid tests that should be done, like the free T3 and reverse T3, which are rarely included in conventional testing. You'll hear about simple steps you can take to support your thyroid function. If you've been feeling off and suspect your thyroid may be contributing to your bone health issues, this episode is for you. Staying strong and independent can be a challenge as we age. Today, I'm excited to have Susan Servetnick, a physical therapist and osteoporosis specialist, talk about the importance of functional exercises for women with osteoporosis. Susan shares three must-do exercises that can help you stay independent, strong, and fracture-free, no matter your age. The first exercise we cover is the hip hinge squat, which teaches you how to get out of a chair properly, activating your core, glutes, and legs without straining your back. Next, we dive into the step-back lunge, which helps you build leg strength and prepare for life's functional movements. Finally, we talk about the push-up–yes, push-ups! These strengthen your upper body and help build bone density, especially in the wrist. Susan explains how to progress safely through each exercise and make them work for you to help you build strength and confidence, ensuring you stay active and independent as you age. "While balance training and exercise won't necessarily prevent you from losing your balance, the goal is to improve your ability to regain control after you do. What we're really training is the body's reflexes–teaching yourself to correct a stumble and prevent it from turning into a fall." ~ Susan Servetnick, MA, PT In this episode: [02:31] - The hip hinge squat: get out of a chair safely and strengthen your legs [08:51] - Progressing the exercises safely, and the role of core activation [20:09] - The step-back lunge: building leg strength and improving balance [30:03] - Push-ups for building upper body strength and bone density [37:33] - Creative challenges to improve strength and balance [40:59] - The push-up challenge: community support and staying motivated [45:34] - Services available at Susan's New York lab Resources - Strong Bones for Life: Free Talk and Q&A on May 18th at 2:00 pm - sign up here - https://www.happyboneshappylife.com/strong-bones-for-life-may2026 - The Push Up Challenge (Info)- https://drive.google.com/file/d/13W1AV0Uiqon8oTzGueC1qjdHynl-Gd0H/view?usp=sharing - The Push Up Challenge (Sign up here) - https://forms.gle/Qku2bsdeoPvs4xyTA - Strong Bones, Strong Mind: Functional Exercises for Osteoporosis & Brain Health - https://www.happyboneshappylife.com/strong-bones-sharp-mind-functional-exercises-for-osteoporosis - Back into Balance website - https://www.backintobalancenyc.com/ - Get discounted supplements at Margie's Fullscript dispensary - https://tinyurl.com/happybonessupplements More about Margie - Website - https://margiebissinger.com/ - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/p/Margie-Bissinger-MS-PT-CHC-100063542905332/ - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/margiebissinger/?hl=en DISCLAIMER – The information presented on this podcast should not be construed as medical advice. Most people do not think about bone health until something breaks, but by then the damage may already be underway. In this episode, Amy sits down with Dr. John Neustadt to talk about why osteoporosis is not just a women's issue, why men are often overlooked, and how bone loss affects strength, mobility, and longevity. They cover bone density vs. bone strength, the role of hormones, hidden medication risks, protein intake, exercise, and practical ways to protect your bones before a fracture forces the conversation. Bone density loss and osteoporosis are among the biggest threats to independence after 50. In this episode, bone health expert Kyle Zagrodzky explains the science of bone remodeling, skeletal strength, fracture prevention, and how mechanical loading can help build stronger bones as we age. Bone health is often overlooked until a fracture occurs, yet skeletal strength is one of the most important factors determining mobility as we age. In this episode, Dr. Gillian Lockitch speaks with Kyle about how modern lifestyles contribute to declining bone density and muscle strength across generations, and why traditional approaches to bone health often miss a crucial biological trigger. The conversation explores practical strategies for strengthening bone, improving balance, and reducing fracture risk so that listeners can remain active, resilient, and independent throughout later life. Kyle Zagrodzky is the Founder and CEO of OsteoStrong, an international wellness franchise dedicated to improving skeletal health and preventing fractures through science-based conditioning protocols. A seasoned entrepreneur with more than three decades of experience building high-performance companies, he shifted his focus toward bone health in 2012 after discovering breakthrough bone density technology developed by inventor Dr. John Jaquish. Today OsteoStrong operates in more than 200 locations across multiple countries and serves hundreds of thousands of members seeking stronger bones, better balance, and improved musculoskeletal health. Kyle also hosted the Unbreakable Me podcast and is a leading advocate for proactive skeletal health as a central pillar of longevity. Episode Timeline 00:00 – Welcome and introduction Dr. Gillian Lockitch introduces the episode and highlights why bone health is essential for maintaining independence, mobility, and an active lifestyle as we age. 00:30 – Why bone health is often overlooked Dr. Lockitch explains how bone loss develops silently, particularly during menopause and aging, and why strengthening the skeletal system is critical for healthy longevity. 04:57 – Kyle Zagrodzky's entrepreneurial journey Kyle shares his background as a bootstrap entrepreneur, his experience in the fitness industry, and the turning point that led him to focus on bone health innovation. 06:30 – Discovering breakthrough bone density technology Kyle describes meeting scientist Dr. John Jaquish and learning about a prototype device designed to stimulate bone growth through mechanical loading. 08:47 – From prototype to global OsteoStrong franchise The discussion explores how Kyle helped transform a scientific concept into an international network of skeletal conditioning centers. 10:13 – The fundamentals of longevity Both hosts discuss the importance of focusing on core lifestyle practices such as movement, nutrition, resistance training, and social connection rather than chasing every new biohacking trend. 15:23 – Why bone density is declining in modern society Kyle explains research showing that younger generations are developing lower bone mass due to sedentary lifestyles and insufficient mechanical loading. 18:00 – The science of bone remodeling The conversation explores Wolff's Law and how bones respond to mechanical stress, along with the level of force required to stimulate new bone growth. 21:50 – How OsteoStrong works Kyle explains the technology behind OsteoStrong devices and how controlled high force loading can stimulate bone growth safely without traditional impact exercise. 26:21 – Practical solutions for people without access to OsteoStrong Kyle shares alternative strategies including resistance training, variable resistance systems such as the X3 bar, and the importance of balance and strength training. 30:45 – The overlooked role of protein Kyle discusses why adequate protein intake is critical for maintaining muscle mass and supporting skeletal health as we age. 32:13 – Dr. Lockitch's personal bone health journey Dr. Lockitch shares her experience with osteoporosis, maintaining bone health through lifestyle approaches, and rebuilding strength after atrial fibrillation limited her activity. 33:59 – The pros and cons of common osteoporosis medications Kyle explains how bisphosphonate drugs work, potential risks associated with long-term use, and why bone remodeling balance is important. 37:11 – Extending healthspan, not just lifespan Dr. Lockitch emphasizes the importance of maintaining vitality, independence, and quality of life rather than simply living longer. 37:50 – Final insights and closing thoughts Kyle and Dr. Lockitch reflect on the importance of empowering people to strengthen their bones and extend their healthy years. What if the diagnosis you were most afraid of turned out to be the thing that changed how you move, for the better? Osteoporosis is often presented as a reason to slow down, to be careful, to wrap yourself in cotton wool. But what if that instinct is actually one of the worst things you can do?In this episode, I'm joined by Alison Crouch; movement specialist, Pilates teacher and someone living and thriving with a severe osteoporosis diagnosis. We get into what bone density really means, why your DEXA scan results are information rather than a verdict, and what the research actually says about impact, strength training and bone health in midlife. Whether you've had a diagnosis, you're somewhere on the osteopenia spectrum, or you simply want to understand how to move in ways that support your bones for the long term, this one is for you.To find out more about today's guest and for the full show notes, visit:The Make Movement Matter PodcastIf you enjoy this podcast, please press Follow and Rate and Review. #197 - How to Reverse Bone Loss Naturally — With 4 Clinically Proven Nutrients to Prevent Fractures. Interview with Dr. John Neustadt Why Calcium Isn't the Answer to Strong Bones (and What Actually Is) — with Dr. John Neustadt If you've ever been told, “Just take calcium for your bones,” this episode is going to blow your mind. Lisa sits down with Dr. John Neustadt, naturopathic doctor, bestselling author of Fracture-Proof Your Bones, and founder of NBI Health, to uncover what really causes — and reverses — osteoporosis. It turns out, bone health isn't just about bone density. And the scary truth? The standard “treatments” may actually make bones more brittle. From medication-induced bone loss to how to choose supplements that actually work (and aren't a waste of money), Dr. Neustadt breaks down the science in a way that's refreshingly clear — and shockingly empowering. You'll learn:

What if a silent thief was stealing your bone strength right now, and you had no idea until it was too late? Osteoporosis affects millions worldwide, yet most people remain completely unaware until a seemingly minor fall results in a life-altering fracture.Think of your bones like a bank account. During your teens and twenties, you make deposits, building peak bone mass by your early thirties. After that, the withdrawals begin. Whether you end up with strong, resilient bones or fragile ones depends on how much you deposited early on and how quickly you're making withdrawals now.Contrary to popular belief, osteoporosis isn't just a women's health issue. While post-menopausal women face accelerated bone loss due to declining estrogen, men develop it too—often without realizing they're at risk until that first fracture occurs. I've diagnosed osteoporosis in men in their sixties who thought they were "too strong" to have bone problems, only to see them suffer life-changing fractures from minor falls.Nutrition plays a vital role in bone health, but it's not just about milk and calcium. Adults need about 1,000-1,200mg of calcium daily, which can come from various sources including fortified plant milks, tofu, beans, nuts, seeds, and dark leafy greens. Vitamin D, protein, and other minerals all contribute to maintaining bone strength. However, if I could prescribe just one "medication" for osteoporosis, it would be resistance training. Weight-bearing exercise creates mechanical stress that stimulates bone formation more effectively than any supplement.Ready to outsmart this silent bone thief? Start by understanding your personal risk factors, optimizing your nutrition, implementing a progressive resistance training program, and talking to your doctor about appropriate screening. Small changes today can dramatically alter your bone health trajectory and protect your independence for decades to come.Go check out my website for tons of free resources on how to transition towards a healthier diet and lifestyle. You can download my free plant-based recipes eBook and a ton of other free resources by visiting the Digital Downloads tab of my website at https://www.plantbaseddrjules.com/shopDon't forget to check out my blog at https://www.plantbaseddrjules.com/blog You can also watch my educational videos on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMpkQRXb7G-StAotV0dmahQCheck out my upcoming live events and free eCourse, where you'll learn more about how to create delicious plant-based recipes: https://www.plantbaseddrjules.com/Go follow me on social media by visiting my Facebook page and Instagram accountshttps://www.facebook.com/plantbaseddrjuleshttps://www.instagram.com/plantbased_dr_jules/Last but not least, the best way to show your support and to help me spread my message is to subscribe to my podcast and to leave a 5 star review on Apple and Spotify! Thanks so much!Peace, love, plants!Dr. Jules

In this conversation, you'll learn why bone density tests don't tell the full story, how to truly reduce your fracture risk, and what daily choices can dramatically improve your bone health. Dr. Neustadt explores holistic approaches—highlighting how the right exercise routine and following a Mediterranean-style diet can not only strengthen your bones, but also lower your risk for heart disease, dementia, and cancer. Strong bones are the armour that carry us through life's battles — whether it's racing triathlon, carrying the shopping, or keeping up with grandchildren. Yet too many athletes only notice cracks in that armour when it fails. In this episode, Simon is joined by Dr Juliet McGrattan and Dr Catherine Jackson to explore what really keeps bones battle ready: the truth about calcium, vitamin D, hormones, strength training, and why endurance sport alone isn't enough. Together, they unpack how both men and women can protect their bone health, maintain strength through midlife and beyond, and build habits that last decades. Quote of the Episode “Use your future self as a motivator. I know 80-year-old Juliet pretty well now — and every time I'm doing something good for my bones and longevity, she's waving her pom-poms.” — Dr Juliet McGrattan Key Talking Points Bone Health Basics – Why both men and women need to take bone strength seriously, not just post-menopausal women. Hormones & HRT – How menopause, testosterone, and modern HRT options affect bone density and long-term health. Strength & Impact Training – Why bones need load, impact, and multidirectional movement to stay strong. Nutrition Foundations – Getting calcium, vitamin D, and protein right — plus fuelling properly for endurance. Sleep, Recovery & Lifestyle – How rest, sleep, and everyday movement protect your healthspan as much as your bones. Key Takeaways Bones need impact – Walking, hopping, lifting, and loading keep your skeleton strong. Endurance isn't enough – Running, cycling, or swimming alone won't protect bone density. Fuel properly – Under-eating and low energy availability are major risks for bone loss. Recovery matters – Sleep and rest are when your bones and muscles actually rebuild. Train for your future self – Every strength session today is an investment in how you'll move at 80.
Are you concerned about your bone health? Do you worry about osteoporosis? According to the CDC, more than 10 million Americans have low bone density that makes them more vulnerable to fractures. For many older people, a fracture can be devastating, reducing mobility and possibly even leading to death. What does the latest medical science […]
In this episode of Growing Older Living Younger, Dr. Gillian Lockitch speaks with Jeff Bailey, creator of Avita Yoga, about the power of joint compression in preserving mobility and independence. Jeff explains how distinguishing between pain and healing sensation can transform the way we move, age, and heal. He shares simple yet powerful practices for maintaining mobility in joints—especially hands, hips, and spine—and emphasizes how combining diet with consistent compression keeps arthritis at bay. This conversation will inspire you to trust your body's intuition and embrace mobility as a lifelong practice for vibrant aging. Jeff Bailey has centered his life around yoga since 1985, teaching over 13,000 classes and workshops. After sustaining a severe hip injury in a skiing accident, Jeff discovered the critical role of joint compression in healing and long-term mobility. He studied Rolfing Structural Integration at the Dr. Ida Rolf Institute, where he trained in fascia-focused bodywork. Jeff credits this most valuable yoga teacher training he ever received, with shaping the development of his innovative Avita Yoga. By integrating Rolfing principles of fascia reorganization with mindful, joint-targeted movement, Jeff created a practice that has helped thousands overcome pain, restore mobility, and even avoid joint replacements. He is the author of The Yoga Mind and the forthcoming Mobility for Life: Healthy Joints, Strong Bones, and a Peaceful Mind with Avita Yoga. In this episode of The Aging Well Podcast, Dr. Jeff Armstrong and cohost Corbin Bruton explore why one of the most critical windows for building a strong, resilient body occurs before puberty. The truth is, by the time most people start thinking about bone health—it's already late in the game.Dr. Armstrong breaks down how bone density, muscular strength, and foundational movement patterns are largely formed during childhood and adolescence—and why this matters for long-term health, mobility, and fracture prevention later in life. They discuss how early physical activity, nutrition, and strength-based play lay the groundwork for aging well, and how modern childhood culture (sedentary lifestyles, early specialization, screen time) threatens that process. This conversation is for parents, educators, and anyone interested in building—or rebuilding—a foundation for lifelong strength. Please, support The Aging Well Podcast by hitting the ‘like' button, subscribing/following the podcast, sharing with a friend, and….BUY the products you need to… age well from our trusted affiliates and support the mission of The Aging Well Podcast*.The Aging Well Podcast merchandise | Show how you are aging well | Use the promo code AGING WELL for free shipping on orders over $75 | https://theagingwellpodcast-shop.fourthwall.com/promo/AGINGWELLBerkeley Life | Optimize nitric oxide levels | Purchase your starter kit at a 15% discount | Use the promo code: AGINGWELL15 | https://berkeleylife.pxf.io/c/6475525/3226696/31118Rebalance Health | products created by hormone health experts to lower cortisol, improve sleep, and minimize the impact of stress on the body and mind | https://rebalancehealth.com/AgingWellProlon | The Fasting Mimicking Diet (FMD) is a revolutionary five-day nutrition program scientifically formulated to mimic the effects of a prolonged water fast while still allowing nourishment - supporting the benefits of fasting without the challenges and risks that come from water-only fasts. | For the best available discount always use this link: https://prolonlife.com/theagingwellpodcastL-Nutra Health | The medical division of L-Nutra, focused on helping people manage and potentially reverse chronic health conditions, like type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, insulin resistance, and obesity, using personalized, lifestyle-based programs grounded in evidence, not prescriptions. | Use this link: https://l-nutrahealth.com/theagingwellpodcastThrive25—Your personal longevity advisor | https://www.thrive25.com/early-access?via=william-jeffreyFusionary Formulas | Combining Ayurvedic wisdom with Western science for optimal health support. | 15% off Code: AGINGWELL | https://fusionaryformulas.com/Jigsaw Health | Trusted supplements. “It's fun to feel good.” | Click the following link for 10% off: https://www.jigsawhealth.com/?rfsn=8710089.1dddcf3&utm_source=refersion&utm_medium=affiliate&utm_campaign=8710089.1dddcf3Auro Wellness | Glutaryl—Antioxidant spray that delivers high doses of glutathione (“Master Antioxidant”) | 10% off Code: AGINGWELL at https://aurowellness.com/agingwellpodcastDr Lewis Nutrition | Fight neurodegeneration and cognitive decline with Daily Brain Care by Dr Lewis Nutrition—a proven daily formula designed to protect and restore brain function. | 10% off code: AGINGWELL or use the link: https://drlewisnutrition.com/AGINGWELLTruDiagnostic—Your source for epigenetic testing | 12% off Code: AGEWELL or use the link: https://shop.trudiagnostic.com/discount/AGEWELL*We receive commission on these purchases. When you're diagnosed with osteoporosis or osteopenia, it's natural to want to take action fast—lifting heavy, joining group programs, or pushing your body harder than ever. But here's the truth: too many women are getting injured because they're doing too much, too soon. And once you're injured, you're sidelined. In this solo episode, I share why safety must come first when it comes to building bone strength, balance, and muscle. From heavy weightlifting to osteogenic loading programs and even yoga classes, I've seen how the wrong approach (or the wrong guidance) can lead to setbacks. I also reveal the hidden factors—hydration, sleep, stress, and nutrition—that determine whether your body is ready for challenge.Because stronger bones aren't built overnight. They're built with awareness, patience, and safety at the core. What You'll Learn in This Episode:Why “Weight Bearing As Tolerated” is the smartest mindset for bone healthThe risks of heavy lifting without proper training or preparationHow hydration, sleep, and stress impact your bone and muscle safetyReal-life stories of women injured by popular programs and exercisesQuestions to ask before hiring a trainer or joining a classWhy slow, safe, and steady progress is the key to stronger bonesDebi's Takeaway:Yes — you can build stronger bones, muscles, balance, and posture. But only if you do it safely. Plus, Anne-Marie reveals the shocking historical evidence that women have always been warriors—not delicate flowers picking berries. Dr. Betty and Anne-Marie dive deep into the bone-building benefits of strength training (crucial for preventing osteoporosis), the right way to fuel your workouts, and why that "high reps, low weight" advice is keeping you weak. They also tackle the persistent myth that women will "bulk up" and share practical tips for getting started—even with soup cans! What You'll Learn: Why chasing "skinny" is sabotaging your health and happiness The fascinating anthropological evidence that women were built to be strong How strength training transforms your confidence, not just your body The protein requirements for women over 40 (hint: it's way more than you think) Why resistance training is your best defense against bone loss Simple ways to start strength training at home or in the gym If you're ready to stop shrinking yourself and start building the strong, powerful woman you were meant to be, this episode is your wake-up call. Send us a textIf you think joint pain is just part of getting older… think again. In this episode, I sit down with Jeff Bailey - founder of Avita Yoga and author of the upcoming book Mobility for Life: Healthy Joints, Strong Bones, and a Peaceful Mind - to talk about a radically different approach to joint health, healing, and pain relief after 50. After a devastating ski accident at 50 left Jeff with a wrecked hip and grim medical predictions, Jeff turned his pain into purpose by developing a practice that helps restore mobility and joint function - without surgery, without extreme stretching, and without feeling like a pretzel in spandex. We cover everything from why stretching isn't the answer, to how compression actually heals your joints, to what you should be doing right now to bulletproof your hips, shoulders, knees, and spine for the long haul. Whether you're dealing with joint pain, facing a possible replacement, or just want to stay strong, mobile, and independent for decades to come - this one's for you.
If you are worried about keeping your bones strong, there’s more to the story than taking calcium supplements. Vitamin D and vitamin K work together to support strong, healthy bones. Vitamin D helps your body absorb calcium from food, which is essential for building and maintaining bone density. But without enough vitamin K—particularly vitamin K2—that calcium might not end up where it's needed. Vitamin K2 activates proteins that help direct calcium into bones and teeth while keeping it out of soft tissues like arteries. In other words, vitamin D gets the calcium in, and vitamin K makes sure it goes to the right place. In today’s episode, we discuss the important relationship between vitamin D and vitamin K. These 2 fat-soluble vitamins collaborate to support bone density – there’s more to bone health than calcium!
