Co-Founder of Holstee and co-creator of the Holstee Manifesto, David Radparvar, joins me on this episode to discuss the inspiration and the story behind the writing that has inspired millions all over the world. David talks about why he and his brother wrote the Holstee Manifesto, the process and where these specific words came from. We also discuss how he felt and how his life changed when this manifesto became a viral sensation a few years afterwards, when this was shared all over the internet and was being printed and hung in random places around the globe. We talk about the evolution of Holstee as a business and how it transformed from a sustainable t-shirt company into a business that gives people tools and platforms to transform their life through gratitude, positivity and journaling. David is also the founder of Reflection.app, a minimal online journaling app with daily prompts and powerful guides to help you grow into your best self. Join me on this solo episode where I introduce to you the Holstee Manifesto. This is a piece of writing that I came across in 2019 that I could never forget. Turns out that Manifesto has been changing people's lives around the world for over a decade.
Last week I challenged you to listen to, check out or buy a story of someone who overcame great odds to help boost your self belief...Have you done it yet?Why not? What perceptions are you choosing that are keeping you from the blessed life you deserve to live? Now is a powerful time to claim what is true for you and to trust in what you can create, regardless of what you've been through previously. Listening to or reading someone else's story helps expand our perspective and raises our belief ceiling. I am going to keep today brief and share one example of someone's story that inspired me over a decade ago and still continues to help me keep my priorities straight. About a decade ago I saw a large poster in a yoga studio that left an impact on me. It wasn't a picture, but a series of 15 sentences that created a picture of an inspired life. A life that I wanted to live. And it all started with two brothers and a friend who wanted to write a script to live their dreams. Holstee WebsiteLife Manifesto Video (2:30min long)Gabriell Bernstein once said, “Everyone is entitled to miracles. And when they're not occurring something is wrong. We have the capacity to lose the weight. We have the capacity to earn the money. We have the capacity to live a far greater life than we perceive we do. But we have to make that decision. We have to exercise that free will and make that conscious choice to see differently.”hugs y'all,AlliRate, review, share and SUBSCRIBE! In the summer of 2009, brothers Dave and Mike Radparvar decided to quit their jobs in the heat of the recession to go all-in on their passion project — Holstee, a functional and sustainable t-shirt company they had started with their friend Fabian Pfortmüller.Since then they've pivoted many times. Though what they've done and how they've done it has changed, why they're doing what they do has always remained the same. And it all stemmed from the manifesto they first created when they launched their company. It's a manifesto that's caught the imagination of people and companies around the world and has been viewed millions of times and translated into over 14 different languages.Holstee is about helping people live lives full of purpose and meaning. They sell a range of physical products as well as the Holstee Membership, Reflection Cards, and a recently-launched Reflection.app.In this episode, Carlos and Laurence talk to Dave about how the company was started, how its evolved and what it means to live a meaningful life.If you've ever come across the Holstee manifesto, bought any of their products or have a wish to build a business that scales its impact through its values and not just by selling lots of products, then listen to learn from Dave's story.LinksThe Holstee ManifestoJoin the conversation liveBecome a member of the Happy Startup SchoolJoin the next Vision 20/20 cohort

Credits: https://www.holstee.com/pages/manifesto--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/paolo-franzese/message

Illustrator Brianna Gilmartin gives the backstory on her autobiographical comics, particularly a recent comic which gained enormous attention and respect and dealt with no longer wanting to carry the weight of her father’s 15 year addiction by holding onto it as if it were her own secret. Joining Chelsea, she talks about the conflicting emotions of denial and guilt which she experienced as a child witnessing her father choose a substance over her every day and yet how she’s outgrown hope for change and cultivated an acceptance toward her life being what it is. With a quiet strength, she answers every pointed question and even indulges in Thank You Heartbreak’s first ever round of rapid fire Reflection Cards by Holstee. Gems to look out for:+ the comfort that comes with knowing others relate to your specific experience+ why your own sense of denial can make you resistant to joining support groups+ using humor to overcompensate for the heaviness of addiction+ what are parents do shape us+ her older siblings see their father as a superhero dad because they got a different version of their father+ not fantasizing about who your father could be because this is all you know+ finding acceptance when you understand you have no control over others+ humans are mostly compassionate people; we want to help each other so if something is going wrong, we try to see if we did something wrong to fix it+ it’s not that easy to see addiction as a disease because there is the choice to choose treatment+ the paralysis of too much choice+ not having the desire to date can turn you into an outlier in today’s dating culture+ looking for validation within relationships rather than validation from within can turn you into a serial monogamist + the nerves surrounding "what do I even do on my own, how can I excite myself?”+ the nice things about relationships that keep you coming back+ knowing you are more than alright on your own takes the fear out of being solo and the pressure of dating+ failing hurts less than not trying+ how experiencing her father’s addiction has given her a superpower strength and appreciation for real relationships + having compassion for someone doesn’t mean you have to have patience for their toxic behavior And so much more.__To connect with Brianna, visit her:Website: https://briannagilmartin.comComics mentioned within the episode:"I used to hide my dad’s addiction. In this episode, I speak with the co-founder of the Holstee company Michael Radparvar about mindful art and the incredible success of the Holstee Manifesto
I was thrilled to talk with Monica McCarthy this week for the podcast! I've known Monica for a few years and have been following her career as she's gone through so many entrepreneurial iterations and is currently the Experience Impressario for Holstee. (If you're curious about what an Experience Impressario does, we'll cover that!) On this episode, Monica and I talked all about what she learned about risk from being an actress, how she was able to let go of the solopreneur dream and get a day job (gasp!) and how she's followed her crazyfaith to her own raise your hand say yes moments. Monica McCarthy is a content creator who thrives in words and language in many various forms -- whether it's manifestos and engaging conversations over dinner with brilliant people through her brand Cheshire Parlour, scripting and filming video stories for her Show and Tell Stories, or teaching and encouraging others to explore their curiosity and passions as the Experience Impresario at Holstee’s headquarters in New York City. A former professional actress in Los Angeles, and later the Broadway stage, Monica positively exudes presence and personality while also having an insanely philosophic and strategic mind to guide the creative process for herself and her clients.

The Holstee Manifesto motivates a bewildering number of startups and tech companies—Google, AirBnb, Threadless, Zappos, TED and more all hang the poster on their walls. This week's New Tech City podcast tells the story of how a list of simple, earnest, some might say naive, mantras meant to guide three young men through their 20s, became a must-have for all manner of companies in the tech industry. You'll hear how the friendly guys behind Holstee started out with a plan to innovate on the standard T-shirt, but made an unexpected pivot toward inspirational wall hangings when their own list of mottos went viral on the internet. "Our focus now is creating art that encourages mindful living," says co-founder Michael Radparvar. To hear more about Holstee's unlikely journey and what the popularity of the Holstee Manifesto says about the tech sector, click on the audio or subscribe to the New Tech City podcast on iTunes. And if you have this poster up in your office, let us know why you chose these words to motivate you? Or if you don't buy into this manifesto, why not? As you'll hear the audio, we don't expect everyone to eat this up, but many many people have. Special thanks to all the staff of WNYC lending their voices to the audio incarnation of Holstee Manifesto poster at the end of the podcast.
