In 2016 I had the privilege to join the cast of the third film in Jordan Brady's I am Comic trilogy. Jordan is a commercial director now, and he's a seasoned documentarian, but he's also directed Hollywood features, hosted MTV game shows, and in a lesser known piece of trivia, is the inventor of the phrase "bow chicka bow wow," which was a signature piece in a very successful stand up comedy career. The film I'm in, I Am Battle Comic, looks at what it's like to perform for the United States military overseas. It touts a star studded cast of comedians, much like the previous two films in the trilogy, I Am Road Comic, and the cult classic that started it all, I Am Comic. I Am Comic features interviews with Phyllis Diller, Jeff Foxworthy, Lewis Black, Tim Allen, as well as a host of known and unknown names at the time, and I can't recommend it enough as a primer on stand up comedy beyond what you see in a typical Netflix special. More importantly, Jordan and I have become friends, and his optimistic approach to the world of entertainment is infectious. I sat down with him to find out the stories behind his and how he goes about making things. You can visit Jordan's world of commercial directing at www.CommercialDirectingFilmSchool.com Also, try Jordan's Oso Delicious Hot Sauce.  I personally keep a bottle of each at the house, because the Texan in me loves a little heat.  Visit www.OsoDelicious.org, where $1 from every bottle bought, stolen, or broken goes to the National Military Family Association, another organization I care deeply about. At some point, I assume we’re going to get a documentary titled "I Am Jordan Brady, Comic." Brady, a sometime comic, has made several documentary films over the last decade following standup comedians in their lives on and off the stage. These include I Am Comic, I Am Road Comic, and his latest, I Am Battle Comic. In the new film, Brady is once more behind the camera and occasionally in front of it, this time going on tour with comedians entertaining American troops in live battle zones overseas.

Hello, friend, it IS I, Marc Hershon, your host and adorable Lapso Apso for our sesquicentennial installment – that’s Epi150 to you and me – of Succotash, the Comedy Soundcast Soundcast. It’s also the 6th anniversary of this show being on the web! This particular listening experience is a Succotash "Chatisode", and features third time returning special guest Jordan Brady! Jordan has just started galavanting around the good ol’ US of A to show off his newest documentary, I Am Battle Comic, the third chapter of his trilogy looking at the lives and careers, and the hopes and dreams, as well as the pain and suffering, of comedians. The first was I Am Comic which, you might recall from just a couple of episodes ago, focused on the efforts of our guest Ritch Shydner trying to re-ignite what had once been a pretty successful standup comedy career. The followup to that was I Am Road Comic, about the trials and tribulations of a comedian working the road today. That film featured another triple visit guest, Wayne Federman. You can likely guess the focus of his new film, I Am Battle Comic – it’s about stand-up comedians who muster up the courage to head into some of the gnarliest war zones that our men and women of the Armed Forces are stationed. The only reason to do so is to bring a few laughs into the lives of the servicemen and women in these god-forsaken hellholes, some of whom are stationed away from home for many months or even years at a time. Here's the red band trailer for the movie…  The movie isn’t available for download yet – Jordan talks about when you can expect that in our interview – but he is traveling around, renting out theaters in different places around the country and showing. He often has one or more of the comedians featured in the film with him, too. In addition to Jordan Brady, we’ve got a double dose of our Burst O’ Durst with our resident political wonk & cultural observer Will Durst coming up in this episode. We also say goodbye to comedian Don Rickles, who passed away this week at the of 90, and play a bit from his 1969 album Don Rickles Speaks!  This episode is brought to you by Henderson's Pants and their seasonal Spring Breakers. This show marks Succotash's 6th year of soundcasting — 150 episodes — and I want to thank you for your support. But as the world of soundcasting grows ever larger, your support is more important than ever. 5-star ratings iTunes rating, for instance, make a big difference in visibility for the show, and your glowing reviews make me wriggle like a happy puppy. We have never had a real paying sponsor for Succotash in the half-dozen years we've been going. A number of you, fortunately, have made use of the Donate button on our homesite. Or shopped on Amazon via the banner at the top of that very same homesite. Or some have even, in a few cases, purched some merch from the Succotashery. But financial support has come mostly from my own wallet. Operational costs aren't much — $30 bucks a month for web hosting, another $30 every month for publicity, then the odd purchase of promotional merch. Still, it adds up and I hope that if you enjoy listening to Succotash as much as I enjoy putting it out there, that you might feel right ponying up a few sheckels to help pull this thing together. We'll be back with an episode of Succotash Clips soon. If you're a comedy soundcaster and you'd like us to feature your show, you can upload a 3-5 minute MP3 clip directly to us at http://hightail.com/u/Succotash. And you can always email me at marc@SuccotashShow.com — Marc Hershon

What makes "I Am Road Comic" getting on Netflix so sweet, is that it represents a victory in micro-budget indie filmmaking. Keeping a tourniquet on spending, crafting a story with notable comics and a podcast-based PR campaign, it's finally paid off. This is my 5th film to land on Netflix. It all started with "I Am Comic", but Netflix was just starting out and Showtime had debuted the star-studded docu. Then "Waking Up In Reno" and "The Third Wheel" were added. But those films were Disney-owned Miramax garage sales no doubt. Maria Bamford's "Special Special Special" is awesome, and it's still up, and that's all Maria. So with "I Am Road Comic", I have 4 films streaming. I'm the most prolific filmmaker no one's ever heard of.  Thank you! Jordan This episode is 2 minutes.

Creative freedom feels so good. By self-distributing my new comedy documentary “I Am Road Comic” directly to fans for $5, I'm showing the world an unfettered work. Welcome to Epi90 of Succotash, the Comedy Podcast Podcast, the show that tracks down clips of comedy podcasts from all over the web and sweeps them into a neat pile every week or so for you to scoop up with your dustpan-like ears and enjoy. You, dear reader, must also like to sweep a little bit into your eyes, since you're visiting the show blog. We’ve got a jammed packed episode: A half a dozen podcast clips. TWO of our Burst O’ Durst segments with political comedian and social commentator Will Durst, who talks to us about the Washington Redskins debacle and how to properly observe the 4th of July. A brand new Henderson’s Pants commercial for their "Camo CutOffs". Not to mention the TweetSack. But we also have a special guest for Epi90, making his return to the Succotash microphones: Jordan Brady, who was here last time to talk about his documentary called I Am Comic. Now he has his followup movie out – which he was musing about doing the last time we chatted with him – and it’s called I Am ROAD Comic. It’s a funny documentary and neat little study of comedy and comics on the road. I’m very excited to have Jordan back on the show and he was very kind to give me a lot of time in our Skype chat which you will hear in this episode. The interview is pretty long, so the show is front-loaded with the clips and other business and then we’ll spent the rest of the episode with Jordan. Since he last joined us, he’s also become a podcaster, hosting Respect The Process. It's a show about the world of commercial film production and we talk about that in our interview as well. (BTW, the title for this epi's blog came from a lip slip I made while talking to Jordan - a cross between chatting and Twitter, which was inadvertently coined to describe carrying on a prolonged exchange with someone via Twitter. Too bad Rich Hall doesn't write Sniglets books any more!) THE 10 MOST ACTIVE SHOWS ON STITCHER'S TOP 100 COMEDY PODCAST LIST I'm not sure if anyone really appreciates or enjoys this feature but I do! It keeps me looking at the top-ranked shows on Stitcher and that helps me to stay in touch with what's going on out there in PodcastLand. So a shout-out to Ed Wallick from the Don't Quit Your Daycast podcast who gave me the idea for this list in the first place! An offshoot of that is my appreciation of Dean's yodel of our show's name, which has begun to really develop over time, as can be heard over the theme song for this installment and again at the tail end of the show.   CLIPS Thanks, as always, to our Associate Producer Tyson Saner, who provided a number of the clips heard this episode! The Geek GenerationThis clip - from a podcast we’ve featured before – was provided by the main man behind the show, Rob Logan. He says, “We've started playing a game on The Geek Generation called Smash-Up, which combines two categories or concepts of things together, creating some hilarious results for things you've probably never heard of. Recently, our Smash-Up category was to combine Godzilla with any other movie, and in this clip myself and my co-host Mikey read the responses sent in from our super-creative fans.” Word to the wise: Comedy podcasters are welcome to submit 3-5 minute MP3 or WAV clips from their shows to clips@SuccotashShow.com, and we'll feature them on the show! Proudly ResentsFriend-of-Succotash and past special guest Adam Spiegelman recently posted a "Succotash Shoutout" version of his show Proudly Resents. He had some bits, pieces, and tail ends of interview from his podcast so he put them together, Succotash-fashion, to serve to his listeners. Thanks, Adam! We're featuring part of that stew: A snippet of a conversation Adam had with filmmaker Jeremy Sklar. Revelstoke Jim’s Canadian ContentTyson harvested this next clip and, he couldn’t have known this, but I’ve been aware of Revelstoke Jim since the early aughts. It was around the year 2000 or 2001 that I began to make a series of guest appearances on But Seriously, an early webcast – there was an attempt by some broadcast-oriented companies to livecast shows – hosted by comedian Brian Malow. His show was part of a rudimentary network of shows and the one that was on right after his was hosted by none other than Revelstoke Jim. So I would catch snippets of his show. Here, some decade and some years later, is yet another snippet, live and direct from Revelstoke, British Columbia. Comedy And Everything ElseWe had comedian Fred Stoller on Succotash way back in Epi15 when we were one of the first podcasts that he’s been a guest on. Since then, Fred’s become a favorite guest of a lot of shows. (So many, in fact, that I’m surprised he hasn’t started one of his own, because he’d be a great host, I think.) He was on a recent episode of Comedy & Everything Else, hosted by comedian Jimmy Dore and Stefanie Zamorano, who co-host a solid, funny show (in league with Dore's own The Jimmy Dore Show.) Green Up!The world of pop culture-based comedy podcasts is both deep and wide, which means there are a lot of them. Tyson found us this one, which I hadn’t heard of before, hosted by Roy, Phillip, and Ryan. (Or, as they refer to themselves on their show blog, “three fatties”.) Their focus is on video games – console and PC, as well as TV, movies, and podcasts. (Hmm. Wonder if they ever mention SuccotashI?) In this clip, they’re musing about getting a-whuppin’ as a kind of celebration of Father’s day. There's your Epi90 in a bloggy nutshell. Enjoy! And don't say I never gave you anything… — Marc Hershon
