Jeff Keith of Tesla was first exposed to music by his father, who played guitar for a local bar band in Georgetown, CA. After graduating high school, Jeff bought a guitar chord book and learned his favorite Beatles & Rolling Stones songs to play at campfires. He later auditioned & got the gig for the band City Kidd, and they played Top 40 hits with a few of their own songs mixed in. City Kidd was eventually renamed Tesla. Tesla went on tour with Mötley Crüe in 1990, and Nikki Sixx “in a loving, joking way” described Tesla as “a bunch of tomato farmers from Sacramento.” “We were proud to be tomato famers from Sacramento.” Jeff says. Some of his biggest influences are Steven Tyler, Bon Scott, and his favorite band, Foghat. “Foghat, early ZZ Top; all that good stuff. I'm stuck in the 60's and 70's.
Matt Vossler Co-Founder 'Swim Across America' joins me to celebrate 35 years of making waves fighting cancer. And we're talkin big kahuna waves! This year there will be 24 events across the country expected to raise 10M which will bring the total dollars raised by this charity for cancer research rockstars close to 120M! Matt says, it's been incredibly impactful and effective fund raising. Swim Across America is a national organization with 24 open water swims from Boston Harbor to under the Golden Gate Bridge, and more than 100 pool swim fundraisers across the country. It's roots are firmly anchored in Connecticut and along the shores of Long Island Sound. The 16th annual Swim Across America Fairfield County open water swim is scheduled for Saturday, June 25, 2022. Matt Vossler is from Darien, CT. and he and his lifelong friend and college roommate Jeff Keith, who lost part of his leg to bone cancer as a teen, founded Swim Across America in 1987. These two guys along with their other buddy Hugh Curran, graduated college, put their careers on hold, and physically 'ran' clear across the country fundraising for cancer. The 'swim' version of their efforts was only sparked when they got to the California Coast and ran out of 'land' Matt said. 'Swim Across America' didn't exactly start out as smooth sailing. Matt shared that at their very first event in 1987 on the Long Island Sound in NY during a fundraising swim from Port Jefferson to Fairfeld Beach, their boat actually sank. OMG. If that didnt stop them...it didn't. Swim Across America is built on a fundamental value that money raised in a community, stays in that community. This value creates a grassroots community feel for each of our charity swims,” said Matt Vossler. “Each charity swim is partnered with an academic or research hospital within the community that serves as the beneficiary. Stamford-based Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy is the local beneficiary in Fairfield County, CT. What isn't limited to geography is the innovation and collaboration to fighting cancer. Swim Across America has already granted $100M and been a major funder in the advancement of immunotherapy, personalized medicine, gene sequencing, detection and patient programs such as adolescent and youth survivorship.” ********************************** On Saturday, April 23rd, Elizabeth Beisel, a four-time Olympic gold and bronze medalist, 2016 Team USA captain, and world record holder for the first woman to successfully swim from mainland Rhode Island to Block Island, along with Craig Beardsley, a world record holder in the 200-meter butterfly and a former member of the U.S. Olympic Swim Team, will be visiting the Darien, CT YMCA. They will hold a swim clinic with the Darien Y's Piranha swim team from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., and then participate in a Meet-and-Greet with the public from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Meet-and-Greet is free and open to the public. Something tells me after you listen to this podcast conversation with Swim Across America Co-Founder Matt Vossler, you'll want to jump in and help. Incredibly inspiring.

The episode today is hard to hear but very important. It reminds us that the daily battle over the phone and internet are worth it because our teens (especially girls) are being stalked. Our guests today are Andrea Perry and Jeff Keith they both work at Guardian Group and are both committed to reducing human trafficking. What was eye opening for me is that human trafficking isn't just stealing your daughter away from your home, it can happen in your home on the internet. Our teens don't just need us to monitor the time they are online, they also need to be monitored about what they are doing and who they are talking to. In this episode we talk about the important conversations you can have with your teens to keep them safe. Andrea Perry received her degree in Psychology from California Polytechnic State University in 2009. Post college her efforts were focused in the adolescent counseling sector, working with youth in multiple different capacities. in 2015, she was introduced to Guardian Group and the efforts to prevent and disrupt trafficking. With a passion to make a difference in this world and help young people she began volunteering and later joined the team full time. Jeff Keith started his anti-trafficking work in 2004 while working with global anti-human trafficking organizations and researching best practices in the fight against human trafficking in the United States. During his research, Jeff recognized an opportunity to significantly reduce human trafficking in the United States by providing focused training, directed networking, better resource coordination and innovative anti-trafficking technology, and thereby founded Guardian Group. Whether in conversation, on the news, or plastered across our newsfeeds, "freedom" is a hot topic these days. There are countless opinions on what true freedom is and how it should look today. And, just as people are talking about freedom, they're talking about slavery - a word with deep pain packed into it. But maybe the reason these buzzwords run so deep in our culture is not only because of our nation's history, but because each one of us is engaged in a spiritual battle between slavery and freedom. Join us as we continue our series, New-ish?: Everything's Changed. Have You?, as Paul reminds us that everyone is a slave to sin, but through Jesus Christ's life, death, and resurrection, Christians are free! Listen with us to our newest message, The Freest Slave, and ask yourself the question, "Whose slave am I?"
We all see the constant conflict in our world, but did you know there's a spiritual battle happening as well? There is a struggle between who controls our hearts, whether our sinful, fleshly desires or God's Holy Spirit. But here's the good news: If you've placed your faith in Christ, we know who wins this war! Join us as we continue our series, New-ish?: Everything's Changed. Have You?, as Paul seeks to bring us to the scary realization that sin is a power that seeks to master us. But the story doesn't end there. Jesus' death and resurrection have given us victory over sin and death! The question is, does your life reflect this truth? Listen with us to our newest message, A New Master, and determine who you're allowing to rule your life!

On the 14th Episode and Season 2 opener of the Album Review Crew (formerly known as Bonus Episodes), Tom, Zeus & Sonny review the 1986 platinum debut album from Tesla, Mechanical Resonance. The album and the band were a departure from the LA hard rock/metal scene of the 1980's. Filled with Jeff Keith's raspy vocals, the dual guitar brilliance of Frank Hannon and Tommy Skeoch and the tight rhythm section of Brian Wheat and Troy Luccketta, Tesla was different in sound and looks. Well crafted songs, acoustic guitars and great lyrics by a band in jeans and t-shirts set Tesla apart from their contemporaries. Mechanical Resonance was the beginning of a trend to return back to the classic hard rock sound. As usual the guys breakdown the tracks and rank the songs. They then rank the album and album cover against the previous 12 albums review on the Album Review Crew Episodes.Be on the lookout for the handsome band conversation.L U V Love Ow!!!For all things Shout It Out Loudcast check out our amazing website by clicking below: www.ShoutItOutLoudcast.com Interested in more Shout It Out Loudcast content?
