He has also performed live on “Saturday Night Live,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” “Good Morning America,” and many more. Forrest is also the drummer in Phil Collen's (Def Leppard lead guitarist) blues-rock-n-soul band Delta Deep.   On the night of January 8th, 2025, during the devastating California fires that ravaged tens of thousands of acres, including the entire city of Altadena, Forrest's home he shared with his wife Paige, was razed to the ground. This included his music studio, revered drum set ‘Gretchen,' all his musical instruments, and vital computer equipment. Forrest and Paige evacuated their home the evening before, as directed, wearing only the clothes on their backs carrying their small pup. 'The Shoutout Music Appreciation 101', a weekly radio program on the Stationhead music platform and it's dedicated listening family, the TSO Audio Crew, have unified with the creation of this GoFundme to get the attention of many to help us assist Forrest who has been a dear friend, thoughtful person and masterful musical talent. While Crossbone Skully may be a new band to some, they are definitely not a fresh band when it comes to pedigree. Frontman Tommy Henriksen is an integral part of both Alice Cooper's band and the Hollywood Vampires, earning his stripes multiple times over through countless tours and live performances. But with Crossbone Skully the landscape has shifted considerably. This is Henriksen's own band. His creation. His baby. And today the world gets to share in his vision when Crossbone Skully unleash their debut album Evil World Machine on the world.A vicious, snarling slab of rock music brilliance, Evil World Machine is an emphatic statement of intent, executive produced by the legendary Mutt Lange with just enough finesse to draw comparisons with some of the bigger artists in his resume.HEAVY had the pleasure of catching up with Tommy and guitarist Anna Cara to talk more about the album and the rise and rise of Crossbone Skully."It's been a long time coming," Tommy smiled when asked about the album. "It's been quite a while since it's been finished, and to me, it feels like a bunch of excitement and relief. Finally, people can hear this."In the full interview, Tommy and Anna expressed excitement and relief at finally releasing their album, which they had been working on for a long time. They acknowledged the frustration of waiting for the right moment to release it, but believed it was the universe's timing. The group discussed the diverse musical influences in their album, including AC/DC, the Sex Pistols, and The Who. They also mentioned the various singles released from the album, and hinted at some powerful tracks that hadn't been released as singles yet. Both discussed their desire to create music that transcends genres, rather than being pigeonholed into a specific sound. They mentioned their inspiration from various artists such as The Who, Queen, David Bowie, and Motley Crue and also talked about their approach to featuring guest artists on their songs, with Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue and Phil Collen from Def Leppard being mentioned as examples.Tommy spoke about the thought process behind the album's opening track, which was inspired by David Bowie and Motley Crue plus the involvement of legendary producer Mutt Lange, who was executive producer on the album. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with Alice Cooper's band and emphasized the importance of conveying a message of survival and doing the right thing in their music. The band also discussed their upcoming live shows, with a tour kicking off in Hollywood, and expressed interest in touring in Australia plus more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Def Leppard and Dive Bombs: Phil Collen on His Bombastic “Photograph” Solo

Shred With Shifty

The influential British shredder talks about how he formed his playing style and demonstrates how to rip one of his most iconic leads. To hear Phil Collen tell it, he joined Def Leppard almost by accident. He had loaned the band one of his amps, and when they asked him to play some leads on their upcoming record Pyromania, Collen thought he was just doing his friends a solid. The rest is history. He and Shifty talk through Collen's formative years on guitar, where he soaked up the scorching playing of classic guitar heroes: Jimmy Page, Ritchie Blackmore, Mick Ronson, Michael Schenker, and John Petrucci all played a hand in Collen's high-flying fretwork. How did Collen fit into the '80s arms race of speedy guitar playing? His participation might have had something to do with Thin Lizzy's Gary Moore. Collen's solo on “Photograph” is a perfect example of the sort of “ear candy” that producer Mutt Lange encouraged the band to chase in the studio—and yes, he did record individual notes to build a single guitar chord on Pyromania. But there weren't many tricks to Collen's sound on the solo. His Ibanez Destroyer and a 50-watt Marshall were all he needed to get the job done for the slick, Johnny Thunders-inspired solo. Tune in to see how he worked that two-piece setup to record one of the most influential guitar solos of the '80s. Click below to subscribe to the podcast! In this first episode of 2024, Alex welcomes a trio of guests who are among the most important and influential players of electric guitar - Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson. They are also the original lineup of the iconic G3, a tour organized in 1996 by Satriani that has featured legendary players like Robert Fripp, Ynwgie Malmsteen, Phil Collen, and many more. Ahead of this year's tour, they sit down with Alex to discuss the origins of G3, what they've learned from the experience of performing together, and weigh in on how to keep egos in check when playing alongside fellow giants. They commiserate over growth moments that resulted from musical projects created during the pandemic, and do a deep dive into the equipment they're using, from string gauges to amp modelers. Conceived in 1995 by the multi-Grammy nominated guitarist, Joe Satriani, the inaugural G3 Tour took place in 1996 bringing together three of the most iconic and virtuosic guitarists of their time: Satriani, Eric Johnson and Steve Vai. Known for their incredible technical prowess, musical innovation and unique styles, the G3 tour was a celebration of guitar mastery and proved extremely popular, captivating audiences worldwide. Though the line-up has continually changed over the last 29 years since its inception, Satriani is celebrating G3 in 2024 by reuniting the original trio: Satriani, Johnson and Vai. The tour is set to begin on January 23, 2024 in Tucson, AZ hitting eleven cities before winding up with a pair of shows at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. Metal Mayhem ROC: UFO Guitarist Paul Chapman's Daughter on " Growing Up Chapman"

Hello Rivet Heads, On this week's show, we present a Truly unique look behind the "Metal Curtain" as we speak to Brittany Chapman, the daughter of the late Paul Chapman, Guitarist of UFO. This is her story we have dubbed " Growing up Chapman". Brittany is the youngest of Paul's 3 children via 4 marriages, as well as being the only girl. Since Paul's death in June of 2020, Brittany has received condolence's and well wishes from fans and musicians from all over the world. The magnitude of her late father's finger print on the global rock community has been humbling to say the least for Brittany. You see, to us fans, Paul Chapman was a "ROCK STAR", but to Brittany he was her dad. Brittany shares countless stories of her family upbringing with her father, Mother, Step Mother's, step siblings, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. You really get a look at Paul Chapman”, THE DAD" with his love of cooking and music. His connection to all 4 of his wives and how he was able to keep a positive family unit together while combining step children with his own children. Brittany shares her admiration for her mother Cheryl whom she refers to as the real “GOAT” of the family. Fun stories include putting up with the passed-out road crew of L.A. glam band in her living room to late night shenanigans involving swords. Brittany reflects back on her dad's love of cooking. Always preparing big meals with guitar in hand, for friends and family. Family was everything to Paul. It wasn't always easy, Paul wasn't perfect, but he had a perfect heart and loved both his close family and his music family. Finally, Brittany shares the continuous reach out from Her Dad's colleagues. Phil Collen and Joe Elliot of Def Leppard, Billy Sheehan, Rudy Sarzo, Kirk Hammett, Nicko McBrain and Radio DJ Eddie Trunk. The list goes on and on... Paul touched all of these music giants in a way that Brittany is just now fully realizing. "Growing up Chapman '' is Brittany Chapman's story and it's a Damn good one! Paul Chapman (9 June 1954 – 9 June 2020) was a Welsh rock guitarist best known for his work in bands such as UFO and Lone Star. Chapman first joined UFO in 1974-1975 as a second guitarist for the live shows. He left UFO in January 1975 and went on to form Lone Star. Chapman later rejoined UFO in December 1978 on a full-time basis. Chapman recorded his first album with UFO – No Place to Run – It was released in January 1980. Chapman remained in UFO until 1983 In 1984 he joined Waysted and recorded the albums The Good the Bad the Waysted and Save your Prayers. Chapman also went on to form a new band PCP (Paul Chapman Project) and in July 2006, Chapman joined the American southern rock band Gator Country, a collection of Molly Hatchet veterans. In 2015, Chapman went out for a 10-week US tour with the Swedish/Canadian band Killer Bee. Chapman died on his 66th birthday on 9 June 2020. He left two sons, a daughter, nine grandsons and two granddaughters. He was well known by his nickname "Tonka", allegedly acquired because of his indestructible qualities. R.I.P. Now this debate could stir some controversy... Just like sports teams, bands pickup new members to replace folks who don't fit in musically, quit, develop substance issues, don't jibe socially or even die. Eventually, most bands replace members at some point in their careers. But which are the best free agent pickups of all time? Which non-original members made the biggest contribution to a band in terms of developing their sound, their success, and their legacy? The Wolf & Action Jackson each choose their ten best rock band additions of all time and why. Now we had to put in the parameter that the band had to release at least one album without free agent pick. Many bands had members that didn't work out before they put out a record that would find a replacement that made the lineup successful. For each pick we discuss that musician, the member they replaced, the first album they appeared on and that free agent's legacy in the band. And what would the band's legacy be without this person? Is Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden the best free agent vocalist? What about Ronnie James Dio, Brian Johnson, Sammy Hagar or Steve Perry? What about guitarists like Mick Taylor in the Rolling Stones, Phil Collen of Def Leppard or Adrian Smith of Iron Maiden? Which of these changed the fortunes of legendary bands forever? Shout out to the fans of Sheffield United!! With that said, are you ready to embark on a rhythmic journey through the evolution of Def Leppard's sound? Prepare to be enticed by the melodic transformation from heavy metal to hard rock in this deep dive into their second studio album, High and Dry. We unwrap the history of this renowned band from Sheffield, England, and the ascension to platinum status under the watchful eye of producer Robert "Mutt" Lange. From the creativity behind the album cover to the double entendre of the song "High and Dry," we leave no stone unturned in decoding the secrets behind their success.Brace yourself for an electrifying discussion around the band's hit single "Let It Go," a perfect concoction of AC/DC and Deep Purple influences. We amplify Lange's role in propelling them to stardom while providing their audience with a lyrical representation of the rock star lifestyle. But the beat doesn't stop there. We take a detour to discuss the synergy between Steve Clarke  and Phil Collen and how their music can get your adrenaline pumping.  For a bit of humor, we sprinkle in a vital lesson on the importance of leaving a note in a hit and run accident. But hold on, there's more! From celebrating runners, whiskey drinkers, and puppy owners, to the glamorous yet tumultuous life of an NBA player with a model girlfriend, we cover it all. We tip our hats off to poker players and engage in a lively chat about Nigel Tufnell from Spinal Tap and the band's song "Mirror, Mirror". We cap it off with a nostalgic reflection on the hit song "Me and My Wine" and its 1984 remix. So buckle up, you're in for a wild and musical ride!Support the show
