This week is all about bands playing other bands' songs… classic songs that perhaps radio has exhausted… Whether they are playing it straight note-for-note, or whether they are re-interpreting it; bands love to pay tribute to great songs that they love! In this episode, we showcase the diversity of how a band can take a classic rock hit that you've heard a million times and heavy it up.What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Todd joins us tonight to discuss his new collaboration project Heroes & Monsters, how it came together, answers our deep dive questions surrounding the tracks and even tackles a Listener questions about the New Years eve Bruce Kulick Vegas concert. Todd is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer. He is most noted for being the bass player and back up singer in Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, as well as fronting former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick's band. Heroes & Monsters was formed with two other rock n' roll lifers and friends, Guitarist Stef Burns, who has has spent time playing with acts like Y&T, and Alice Cooper, and drummer Will Hunt who currently resides in Evanescence and has played with Black Label Society, Staind, Vince Neil, Slaughter, and more. The band approaches their style with their influences in tow, but also with an understanding and appreciation of the current rock scene. A best of both worlds scenario, if you will. It may only be the first month of the year, however Heroes & Monsters is guaranteed to be a top contender for rock album of the year. The band's self-titled debut will be released on January 20, 2023. A great unique conversation filled with in-depth antidotes and disclosures found only here at Metal Mayhem ROC. Todd Kerns has a new trio project, Heroes and Monsters, on Frontier Records and he chats with Bill this week about this project and his many other endeavors.
Canadian bassist and vocalist Todd Kerns (Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators) stopped by to talk about his new band, Heroes and Monsters! The trio consists of Kerns, guitarist Stef Burns (Huey Lewis & the News, Sheila E., Berlin, Alice Cooper, Y&T, etc.), and drummer Will Hunt (Evanescence, Dark New Day, Black Label Society, Staind, Slaughter, etc.). Their self-titled debut album drops Jan. 20 and features 10 tracks of excellent and varied hard rock. Heroes and Monsters makes quite an opening statement with this record and I got a little of the background on the project from Todd, who also discussed his musical influences, but we also devolved a bit into a discussion of KISS, a band we're both passionate about (Todd has played with Bruce Kulick's band on the KISS Kruise in recent years). Part two of the trip focuses on the KISS indoor show, Bruce Kulick's band, Black Label Society, Buckcherry, Stryper, Vixen, Sisters Doll, Plush, L.A. Maybe, Black Sabbitch, Richie Kotzen and more. The guys continued to see and hear some great music, the KISS Karaoke, notwithstanding. The guys give the inside track of what really happened on KISS Kruise XI as only SIOL can. From Paul's pizza to Gene's game show antics. Rock Star meetings, tattoos, foul odors and more. The Kruise was filled with all sorts of bizarre occurrences. So listen to the awesome conclusion to KISS Kruise XI as told by SIOL and make sure you listen all the way to end for another Klassik KISS Karaoke moment or you may get audited and will need the help of Ace Frehley Tax Accountant!
