Tonight we continue our conversation about who we are by taking a look at our values safe and sound. We revisit a familiar story Jesus told about a lost sheep from a fresh perspective to talk about what it means to be safe community and explore the word sound and how it informs our approach and expectations of Scripture. Together, we discover that grace and truth - safe and sound - are not as opposed to one another as we might have thought. This message is from our Wednesday night service on January 24th, 2024. We gather on Wednesday nights at 5:30 pm & 7:00 pm at The Establishment in Bradburn (11885 Bradburn Blvd. Westminster 80031). Connect with us:kindredchurch.co@kindredchurch.cofacebook.com/kindredchurch.co

Curious Cat

Late last night a well meaning and wonderful neighbor of ours sent us security footage of two guys that were walking around the corner of our property, shining a flashlight onto a concrete wall, talking with each other, going around the house again, and if that'd been it, I'd have assumed they were looking for a lost cat. But one of them flashed his light on our dome-shaped security camera and they quickly left the corner, then block altogether. We paused HULU, thanked the neighbor, then spent the next half-hour checking windows, door locks, turning on outside lights, recharging Ring cameras, that kind of thing. By the time I was in bed, I needed a palate cleanser. I turned on an episode of Better Call Saul. In it, a character with a young granddaughter spends the night on their hideaway sofa to keep them safe. I fell asleep dreaming about Pop Pop being on my sofa downstairs monitoring us through the night. Why am I sharing all this? Well, because I have two draft episodes in the hopper, but neither is screaming to be recorded. When that happens, I know the angels and guides have something else planned, either a person I've reached out to for an interview is going to have an opening, or an episode will craft itself. This is the latter. Someone somewhere needs to feel safe, and I hope this episode gives them the ways to shape their days to be both safe and sane. Show Sources and Materials:Gavin de Becker's Master Class (author of Gift of Fear)Personal safety tips from UCLA PD Food Expiration Confusion Cleared Up article from Real SimpleLink for Fruit/Veg Life Extending Green Bags:  https://www.amazon.com/Debbie-Meyer-GreenBags-Reusable-Vegetables/dp/B00I4V1U06?th=1Fantastic financial and online fraud awareness article! https://consumer.ftc.gov/articles/how-recognize-and-avoid-phishing-scams What to Bring on a Day Hike from REI*********************************************************************Curious Cat is lacing up their hiking boots to explore the rumor riddled Cascade Mountain Range, a land of fire and ice. There’s a federal regulation requiring “quiet vehicles” — meaning hybrid and electric cars — to emit synthetic sounds. That’s because without noisy combustion engines, EVs produce no sound of their own at speeds under about 18 mph, which would make them dangerous to other road users, particularly visually impaired pedestrians. So those sounds are added on. We wanted to know why these cars sound the way they do, so we asked Danielle Venne. Jon Lundin from Point North joins us to chat about new single "Safe And Sound" ft The Ghost Inside and it's epic hockey themed music video. We also dive into their relationship with Hopeless Records, growing up a LA Kings fan ++ way more!!! Power chords and crashing boards. Mikey and Tom talk music, hockey, and anything else that gets in their way. Tom and Mikey are lifelong friends that grew up on Long Island during the glory days of alternative music where our local bands were As Tall As Lions, Brand New, Taking Back Sunday, Bayside, The Sleeping, Envy on the Coast, you get the point. We spent many nights together at The Downtown, catching any pop-punk, indie, hardcore, or emo band that came through. This was not a phase, Mom! Fast forward 15 years and we are still just as passionate about the scene as we were during our girl jeans and youth XL band tees days. Tom and Mikey are also diehard New York Islanders fans, but as we like to say we are #notanislespodcast. As we got older we realized we can like more than one thing and running beside our love for music has always been our love for hockey. We have realized we are not alone in this thinking, actually there are many of us that love these two things! This podcast explores just how connected they are! NEW EPISODE EVERY TUESDAY!
