Julia Scotti is a seasoned comedian, actress, and writer who has been performing on stage for over three decades. Born in New Jersey in 1952, Julia began her career as a comedian in the 1980s under the name Rick Scotti. She quickly gained popularity and became a regular performer at renowned comedy clubs such as The original Improv. In 2000, Julia decided to retire from comedy and focus on her family life. However, after 10 years away from the stage, she made a triumphant comeback in 2014, this time as a transgender woman. Comedian Julia Scott, aged 63, aka “the crazy old lady of comedy,” took to the stage of America's Got Talent as Simon Cowell, Howie Mandell, Heidi Klum, Mel B, and millions of viewers looked on. Her mission? To show that age has nothing to do with anything, you don't stop just because you have gray hair. She killed her set. This innocent-looking granny's routine was bawdy and hip and the audience couldn't get enough. In her words, “I got a standing ovation, all four of them voted to pass me... and I didn't have a heart attack!" Particularly taken was fellow comic Mandell who asked Julia why she started so late in life. A tearful Julia paused, and carefully replied, “For the first 28 years of my life, I was known as Rick Scotti.” The judges looked shocked as the audience applauded. Julia Scotti is a comic that happens to be transgender, not a transgender comic, so don't get it twisted. She's no ones novelty act. While gigging with Dean and Harris Stanton in AC, she takes us from humble beginnings onstage as Rick Scotti and shares stories of early shows selling a joke to Rodney Dangerfield as well as doing shows with Eddie Murphy the week before he booked SNL. Rick wound up starting a comedian's union before he quit the business to teach, discover her truth changing genders and finally returning to comedy after a 10 year hiatus, ultimately becoming a quarter finalist on "AMERICA'S GOT TALENT" in 2016.
