How should we make sense of the Trump administration's assault on Trans rights? In episode 125 of Overthink, Ellie and David talk to philosopher Talia Mae Bettcher about her new book Beyond Personhood: An Essay in Trans Philosophy, where she discusses everything from “genderphoria” to her notion of “reality enforcement” (a mechanism of transphobic oppression). In the interview, Dr. Bettcher expresses concerns about certain received views about trans identity, such as the “the wrong body” and “beyond the binary” views, which don't capture the complexity of trans experiences. How can we move toward a more inclusive culture when it comes to trans identity? And, do we need to reject fundamental philosophical notions such as “person,” “self,” and “subject” in order to combat transphoria? In the bonus, Ellie and David dive deeper into the idea of the interpersonal object and question whether or not the notion of the self is too far plagued by philosophical baggage and needs to be discarded.Works Discussed:Talia Mae Bettcher, Beyond Personhood: An Essay in Trans PhilosophyTalia Mae Bettcher, “Evil Deceivers and Make-Believers: On Transphobic Violence and the Politics of Illusion”Jennifer Finney Boylan, “I'm a Transgender Woman. David and Rachel talk to "MJ," a trans woman, about why she began to feel so unsafe in the U.S. that she has exercised her right as a dual citizen to return to Canada. The conversation starts light, with Canadian cocktails and the need for everyone to have an "Emergency David." But MJ does not hold back from sharing personal details about her journey as a trans woman, some of the ways in which it is dangerous to be transgender in the U.S. under the second Trump administration, and how important it is in understanding people who are different from you to just listen, and ask questions. This week on Everyday Injustice, we talk with Angie Gordon. Angie is a 39-year-old trans woman serving a 48-years-to-life sentence in the state of California. Convicted of multiple violent felonies in 2009; so, in April of 2024 she will have served fifteen years of her sentence. Before coming to prison, Angie was a high school dropout, but since her incarceration, she has devoted her time to furthering her education. She received her GED in 2013, completed multiple associate degrees in 2019, and in 2022 was part of the first graduating class in the Transforming Outcomes Project at Sacramento State, a bachelor's level program in communication studies offered to incarcerated students in California prisons. Despite the limited degree tracks available to incarcerated students, Angie also pursued an autodidactic trajectory in post-graduate level scholarship, focusing her attention on transgender studies, corrections, and queer criminology. A Department of Justice study found that, nationally, trans individuals report having been the victims of sexual assault while incarcerated at a rate ten times higher than non-trans prisoners. A study conducted in California prisons found that trans women housed in male-designated facilities report having been the victims of sexual assault while incarcerated at a rate thirteen times higher than male prisoners. A congressional study found that prison rape often goes unreported, and that "most prison staff are not adequately trained or prepared to prevent, report or treat sexual assaults." In 2013, Carman Guerrero, a trans woman incarcerated at Kern Valley State Prison, was murdered by her cellmate only nine hours after she was forced into the cell with her killer by prison staff against her will. In 2017 at Valley State Prison, an incarcerated trans woman was found dead in her cell, a pencil lodged into her ear and neck; subsequently, the local district attorney's office declined to pursue the case as a murder, claiming a lack of sufficient evidence. Listen as Angie Gordon explains why she chose to transition and why she chose to remain at a male prison.

My friend Sue Robbins (in her 60's, military career, moved to Utah 2004) joins us to share her story. Sue talks about knowing at a young age something was different about her—and while those feelings existed there was no understanding in society about how she felt. Sue talks about gradually coming out to herself and others and “transitioned to living life authentically as a woman in 2014.” Sue then talks about her bridge building work in Utah (on various boards and organizations) to bring more understanding of and support to transgender people—including her work with our state legislature. Sue also talks about how being transgender is not a mental illness but a medical issue and should be treated as such (just like other medical issues like a broken arm or illness). Sue talks about the role of therapists and principles to find the right one to help someone who is transgender. Sue is a steady voice in this space and has been on this road for a long time. She has chosen to stay away from the vitriol and unhelpful rhetoric—and instead build bridge of understanding. If you are looking to better understand and support our transgender friends, I encourage you to listen to Sue's story. I encourage all of us to learn about transgender people from listening to many of their stories—and not from spaces of fear or political rhetoric. Thank you Sue for being on the podcast. You are awesome. Thanks for your great work in our community! Richelle begins by sharing some of the observations of her childhood and how these no doubt trying experiences helped to shape her life and strengthen her personal testimony as well as develop a strong relationship with the Savior—her experience and her journey have helped her to just “trust in the Lord” seek to find joy in your life and accept that all will be made right in the end. Richelle shares how she came to know that her long held feelings needed not be a source of shame and that embracing her gender dysphoria only fully surfaced after the unraveling of her marriage of 25 years. She talks about the peace and joy she feels being honest about her gender identity and helps us better understand how to support her and others on their unique path. She talks about attending her local ward and regaining trust with her priesthood leaders as everyone tries to do their best to love and support her—including some very positive experiences with her relief society sisters. Richelle talks about how some voices in society today seek to brand trans people as sexual perverts out to target their children. With deep emotion, Richelle talks about how painful that is to hear as in her sincere desire to embrace womanhood she only wants to nurture and defend children. We conclude with reading from the Church's web page about loving and supporting transgender Latter-day Saints—and emphasize how the Church's web site contains none of the politically charged statements otherwise being shouted out in the public arena. Richelle encourages us to remember the second greatest commandment and to be willing to get to know the individual just as the Savior knows us individually. Thank you, Richelle, for your courage to be on the podcast and share your story. You are a wonderful woman with a great life ahead of you! It is Pride Month, and given the current and intense politicalization of the rights of transgender individuals, we are pleased to present here an encore of a conversation between Laurie Lee Hall and LDF host Dan Wotherspoon. Originally presented under the umbrella of how different people view God as gendered or not, Laurie Lee shares her experiences as a transgender woman and Latter-day Saint. She shares her story of presenting as a man for the first fifty years of her life, all the while feeling her spirit is female. During this time, she became an architect who worked for the LDS church for many years designing temples, meeting houses, and other church buildings. She was also married with children and served a full term as a stake president. She eventually knew that she could no longer live with her outside presentation being at odds with her true self and shared her truth with her family, general authorities, and those with whom she served in her stake. This led to many upheavals, including divorce, losing her job with the church, as well as her church membership. All along the way, Laurie Lee had very powerful experiences with God that she touches on here. She also shares the outline of her life and relationships today. This is a powerful episode--one that would be good to share with those who do not understand transgender experience. So many people follow along with the political attacks on these persons, as well using their religious beliefs as weapons and excuses for not truly trying to understand transgender individuals and the violence that is being done to these fellow children of God through their rhetoric and actions. Listen in!

THE THESIS: The “DOJ” will make an example of James O'Keefe. The Party created the Alex Jones precedent, they used it to silence others and now Jones is facing a $45 million judgment for defamation, but the Mockingbird Media has never paid a dime for their decades of lies. Now, The Party looks ready to indict James O'Keefe to kill Project Veritas and the message will be clear: never challenge The Party. THE SCRIPTURE & SCRIPTURAL RESOURCES: Officials at the DOJ and FBI have been given much authority to steward. From them, much is expected. Luke 12:48 48 But the one who does not know and does things deserving punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. The Lord abhors human favoritism and the is exactly what The Party is employing Bible verses about favoritism As Christians we are supposed to be imitators of Christ who shows no favoritism, so neither should we. In Scripture we learn that it's forbidden and it should especially never be done with children. 1. James 2:8-9 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers. 2. James 2:1 My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. 3. 1 Timothy 5:21 I solemnly command you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus and the highest angels to obey these instructions without taking sides or showing favoritism to anyone. THE NEWS & COMMENT: The Mockingbirds are afraid to ask who is actually running things in D.C., because it is perfectly clear it's not the Figurehead [AUDIO] - "I took control. I shouldn't do that. I'm not allowed to do that," Biden says before his handlers kick out the press. . . . Bill Marh has become more of a journalist than 99% of reporters on the national level. Listen to Rob Reiner and Amy Kloubachar struggle to answer a simple question about the media and Hunter Biden. [AUDIO] - This is extraordinary. Maher confronts Klobuchar and Reiner with an undeniable fact and they can't help but sputter “January 6th!” They're confirming what we all understand. Nothing matters as long as Trump and Rs are defeated. Whatever it takes. Real journalism is done by dissident journalists [AUDIO] - Sharyl Atkisson: ”Sunday on Full Measure — Social Security Administration whistleblower John McAdams says he was told to ignore elderly widows getting cheated.” Powerline: The DOJ is probably going to indict James O'Keefe and Project Veritas Let's remember what is in the diary that was not, in fact, stolen but found under a mattress by a single mom who the DOJ took time to prosecute FULL RELEASE: Ashley Biden Diary Reveals Child Sex Trauma, Drug Abuse, Resentment For Joe – Whistleblower - National File has exclusively released the full 112 pages of the diary our whistleblower identified as belonging to Ashley Biden [AUDIO] - Emily Jahinsky, The Federalist and Rising Friday on The Hill talked to Alan Desrhowitz about being at dinner with then-President Bill Clinton at which Clinton receives a phone call from Jeffrey Epstein and proceeds to have a 20 minute phone call with him Berenson: “Journalists who hate journalists (and journalism)” Expose-News: Why did Deaths among Female Children increase by 57% immediately after they were offered the Covid-19 “Vaccine?” Julie Wolfe at KING-5 “News” in Seattle doesn't seem interested in correct the puff-piece they did on Children's “Hospital” chemically mutilating kids even after Jason Rantz published proof that UW and Children's knew they were lying about it helping kids with depression and suicidal thoughts [AUDIO] - Netflix Lets Manti Te'o's Catfishing Abuser Off The Hook Because He is a so-called “Transgender ‘Woman . . .'” ‘Freedom of Expression': Foggy Bottom Stands by $10K Grant to Queer Film Fest; State Department proud to fund festival featuring incest, pedophilia [AUDIO] - Jamie Foxx doing an incredible impression of President TrumpSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Gender dysphoria is about identity, not sexual orientation.” Walt Heyer's transgender journey began as early as 4 yrs old when his grandmother psychologically abused him by cross-dressing him as a girl. Later, Walt would be sexually molested by an uncle. These traumas led to Walt's gender confusion. Although he married and had two children with his wife in his 20s, he eventually left them behind and received cross-sex hormones and had sex change genital surgery. Walt lived as a woman for 8 years but never felt whole. Later he detransitioned. Today, he's committed to helping trans people that have been lied to and mutilated by doctors, therapist and big pharma, to identify the trauma that caused them to question their true identity in the first place. www.sexchangeregret.com More: www.Carljacksonshow.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/carljacksonradio Twitter:https://twitter.com/carljacksonshow Parler: https://parler.com/carljacksonshow http://www.TheCarlJacksonPodcast.com See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
