Corruption runs deep within the nefarious medical industrial complex. Grace Schara unfortunately was killed while in the hands of hospital overlords. Nearly four long years after this tragic event, the Schara family's wrongful-death lawsuit and three week jury trial was held to get justice for Grace. Anybody in their right mind who watched the trial couldn't help but believe justice would prevail and there would be a favorable outcome for the plaintiffs. Knowing how unjust and corrupt America's legal system is, the outcome was far from favorable. Our biggest question is, "Who got to the jury?" There's no way big medicine, corporate greed, and compromised courts could allow a victory because it would've imploded the medical establishment. Grace's father Scott explains the final verdict of when big money and a sleeping jury merge.Follow Scott at: https://ouramazinggrace.netYou can take advantage of one of the best holistic health conferences anywhere and enter Discount Promo Code – GRIT for 30% off all My EHI Aloha courses and Healing for the A.G.E.S. events and replays by visitinghttps://myehialoha.org/#GRIT--------------------------Check out all of our vendors at: https://patriotswithgrit.com/patriot-partners/ SPONSORS FOR THIS VIDEO❤️ Cardio Miracle – One Drink. Making wine is capital-intensive. Making traditional method sparkling wine is even more so. From less juice from the grapes to double fermentation to more expensive bottles and taxes, Weston Eidson of recently launched Westborn Wine describes the differences in sparkling production. Detailed Show Notes: Weston's background: >10 years winemaking in Napa (Silver Ghost), family are wine collectors, interned w/ Jason Moore at Modus Operandi (2012), and acquired extra Chardonnay from Steve MatthiassonWestborn was founded in 2018, taking “Grand Cru” or single vineyard level fruit for sparkling wine (e.g., Heintz, Ritchie, Durell vineyards)Partnered w/ Russell Bevan (mentor) and Nathan Reeves (made sparkling in Margaret River)The goal is to start with high-quality wines and layer on complexity with traditional method agingTook 4-5 years to find a stride & hone the winemaking processInitially thought it would be 3 years aging vs 6 for 1st release (2019 1st release; 2018 1st vintage just disgorged mid 2025)SKUs: vintage, Blanc de Blanc, Rose, Non-vintageLuxury priced - $100+Solera method perpetual reserve program, late disgorged release, lead to a lot of capital in inventory2018: 500 cases; 2025 ~1,000 cases; target ~2,000 casesSparkling production costs vs. still wineFruit costs the same (growers love it: less shrivel, gets fruit off earlier - less pest/disease pressure; spreads out the work)Press cuts important, ~25% less gallons/ton vs still wine, as they don't take tailleNeed to make the wine twice: initial fermentation (vin clair), secondary fermentation (bottled with yeast and sugar)Custom crush costs are slightly more expensive due to double fermentationBottles are more costly and need to be bought earlier (~$0.15-20 for a standard bottle; ~$1 for sparkling)Taxes higher: $2.40/gallon for sparkling wine, $0.07/gallon for still wine

Send us a textEver wonder if you're overpaying for sparkling wine? That's exactly what crossed my mind while sipping the surprisingly sophisticated Peaks and Tides Sonoma Brut from Aldi. At just $13.99, this California sparkler challenges everything you think you know about budget bubbles.I stumbled upon this gem during a routine Aldi visit, excited to discover several new wines after months of unchanged inventory. Made by Rack and Riddle—the custom sparkling specialists behind many premium California bubblies—this Sonoma Brut immediately stands out with its pedigree. While Aldi's Peaks and Tides label has offered Chardonnay and Pinot Noir before, this sparkling version raises the bar significantly. From the first sip, I was struck by its balanced character: subtle fruit flavors that don't overwhelm, refreshing acidity that invites another taste, and enough complexity to actually contemplate what's in your glass. That's rare in a sparkling wine at this price point. It maintains the proper dry character expected in a brut, without any cloying sweetness. As I continued tasting, one thought kept surfacing: "Why would anyone pay three times more for Champagne when this delivers such satisfaction?" Modern winemaking has become the great equalizer, allowing for exceptional quality at accessible prices. With the holiday season eventually approaching, consider grabbing a few bottles now while supplies last. Unless you're a dedicated Champagne aficionado, this $13.99 Sonoma sparkler will likely provide equal enjoyment while stretching your celebration budget significantly further. Have you found any surprising wine values lately? Why can't we smell sweetness in sparkling wine? How much of what we “taste” in wine is influenced by its appearance and our expectations? What makes copper both a savior and a threat to viticulture? In this episode of the Unreserved Wine Talk podcast, I'm chatting with Sunny Hodge, author of the terrific new book, The Cynic's Guide to Wine. You can find the wines we discussed at https://www.nataliemaclean.com/winepicks Giveaway Two of you are going to win a copy of Sunny Hodge's terrific new book, The Cynic's Guide to Wine. To qualify, all you have to do is email me at natalie@nataliemaclean.com and let me know that you've posted a review of the podcast. I'll choose two people randomly from those who contact me. Good luck! Highlights Why is it important to look beyond wine characteristics and consider? How does The Cynic's Guide to Wine aim to challenge the way we talk about wine? Can fossilized oysters in vineyard soil really impart marine characteristics on the wine? Why should food and wine lovers know the story of Fitz Haber? What makes copper both a savior and a threat to viticulture? Why should we move away from the focus on wine flavours and instead use descriptors of what it truly offers? Where does the buttery flavour in wine come from? How does cork taint affect wine as well as our sense of smell and perception? Why do vines grown in cooler temperatures have more black pepper notes? How much of what we “taste” in wine is influenced by its appearance and our expectations? Why can't we smell sweetness in wine? Could sniffing slower change which aromas you detect in a wine? Why are humans more sensitive to bitter tastes versus sweet? How does adding ice to whiskey open up its aromas? Key Takeaways The little CO₂ bubbles in sparkling wine dissolve in your saliva and form a physical barrier between certain molecules hitting your tongue and your ability to taste certain things. Sweetness, is the first thing that'll get blocked out. So, if you have a sparkling wine that has some sweetness, as your saliva builds up with bubbles, you won't perceive it. We in wine extrapolate a little bit and think, “It's a white wine,” so I may psychosomatically associate it with white peppery things, rather than a red wine, which might be black pepper. It's actually the same sesquiterpene, called rotundone. We just trick ourselves into perceiving it one way rather than the other. This happens a lot in wine. Copper is naturally antimicrobial and antifungal, which is why we use it in plumbing, hospitals, and as touchpads on doors. Fungal pests like downy and powdery mildew, which affect vines. We spray vines with copper base concoctions to prevent that fungus building up, which will destroy our harvests. But it's not just the heavy metal, but it when it rains, it'll hit your soils and affect earthworms and all of the things that we know to be really good for the soils, naturally. We stop our soil's ability to just look after itself. We haven't found a unified way to overcome downy and powdery mildew without the use of copper. About Sunny Hodge Sunny Hodge is the sole founder of Diogenes the Dog and aspen & meursault; two multi award-winning wine bars associated with challenging the status quo of wine. He is in the process of developing a wine qualification, The Science of Wine Course. His book “The Cynic's Guide to Wine” delves into the science behind wine from soil upwards into our perception of taste and flavour to dispel wine myths using science. He is also a member of the Circle of Wine Writers. He is an International wine judge for IWSC awards, was recently shortlisted for the LWF Buyers Awards 2025 for both ‘On-Trade Multiple Venue Wine Buyer' and ‘Sustainable Wine Buyer of the Year'. Hodge is also a commentator and wine writer for the likes of Waitrose Food Magazine, Evening Standard, The Times, The Guardian, Food FM and Monocle Radio and ITV's Love Your Weekend. This interview at Korbel Champagne Cellars dates back to September of 2021. We were just easing out of the pandemic, so to play it safe, I had the pleasure of joining owner, president, and chairman Gary Heck poolside. Yes, there is a swimming pool off the guest house at the winery. It was a beautiful fall morning, and to have a Korbel mimosa in hand was a bonus! Korbel Champagne Cellars has a multi-layered history full of drama and perseverance. We touch upon Gary's life on the property and how the Korbel brothers eventually created California "champagne" in 1882. Interestingly, the Hecks are only the second family to run the business, and as a result of their decades of determination, the brand can be found across the U.S. and internationally. She speaks about the No Kings protests with her first guest, Linda Baker, organizer for the protests in San Luis Obispo County. For Wine Country, host Mira Honeycutt talks to Sherrie Holzer, winemaker of Rava Wines in Paso Robles, about how sparkling wine is made. And then, Meagan Friberg, Director of the Cuesta College Central Coast Writers' Conference, talks with Meher Ali about this year's lineup.
Did you know the U.S. still uses the word Champagne on some labels, even though it's illegal almost everywhere else in the world? In today's episode, we'll find out why. Today we tell the tale of the 100 year battle California fought (and sometimes ignored) with the French region of Champagne for the name they owned. When Steve Jackson stopped drinking in 2023 he noticed something odd. As much as non-alc drinks have improved over the past twenty years no one was making a zero proof alternative in the premium wine space. He set out to fix that with Society de la Rassi, which offers a high-end drinking and aesthetic experience at 0.5% ABV. Welcome back to another episode of Drinks at the Library, the podcast where we pair the perfect drink with the perfect book. Today, we're diving into a love story that bends time and breaks hearts—The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. It's a tale of fate, longing, and the delicate threads that tie us to the people we love...even if time itself tries to pull us apart. My guest this week is Heather Maury, a Richmond-area librarian and a life-long reader. Her favorite book, to this day, is the children's book, "Mandy" by Julie Edwards (better known as Julie Andrews). Anything by TJ Klune and Sadeqa Johnson are instant buys for her. She loves movies, especially anything that Henry Cavill is in, anything that features Tom Cruise running, and anything that's a musical. She is a die-hard Duranie and a certified Swiftie. She lives with 5 cats, 2 dogs, a guinea pig, and some fish. Oh, and she also has two kids (a college freshman and a 1st grader) and a husband. To match this beautifully complex narrative, our drink this week is The Ephemeral Encounter a cocktail plays with the idea of fleeting moments and the blending of different times —just like Henry and Clare's love story. So, pour yourself a glass, get comfortable, and let's unravel the timelines of this unforgettable romance. The "Ephemeral Encounter" Cocktail: This cocktail plays with the idea of fleeting moments and the blending of different times. Ingredients: 1.5 oz Gin (a classic spirit, representing the timeless nature of their love)0.75 oz Elderflower Liqueur (St. Germain, for a touch of ethereal sweetness and floral notes, like fleeting memories)0.5 oz Fresh Lemon Juice (for a bright, sharp contrast, representing the jarring moments of time travel)0.25 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur (a hint of cherry, for the sweet, romantic core of their relationship, with a slight "old fashioned" feel)2-3 Dashes of Lavender Bitters (to add a calming, slightly mysterious element, like the ever-present mystery of Henry's travels)Sparkling Wine or Soda Water (to top, adding effervescence, like the unpredictable flow of time)Lavender sprig and a cherry, for garnish. In this Episode The American Library Association The Time Travelers Wife - film The Time Travelers Wife - TV show

Send us a textDive into the world of affordable luxury with our exploration of Aldi's hidden gem – the $9.99 Ravini California Sparkling Wine. This budget-friendly bubbly defies expectations with its elegant profile and quality craftsmanship, proving that champagne-style sophistication doesn't require champagne-style pricing. We uncover the fascinating details behind this wallet-friendly sparkler, from its Hindu-inspired name connected to passion and the god Shiva, to its production by Rack and Riddle – the custom sparkling wine house responsible for creating bubblies for numerous major California wine brands. What you're getting is essentially expert winemaking at a fraction of the cost you'd pay for other labels produced by the same craftspeople. The subtle flavor profile featuring hints of cherry, red fruits, and grapefruit might suggest a blend including Pinot Noir, while the well-balanced acidity provides a delightful lingering finish that keeps you coming back for more. The traditional French champagne method (method traditionnel) creates those fine, persistent bubbles that dance on your palate with each sip. Far from being a shortcoming, the wine's restraint and subtlety contribute to its surprising elegance – a quality typically associated with much more expensive bottles.Whether you're searching for an affordable option for celebrations, casual gatherings, or just Tuesday night enjoyment, this Aldi sparkler delivers remarkable value. It's a hodgepodge this week on Behind the Mitten, with stories coming at you from all over Michigan. We start off the show with Angie Quinn, the executive director of the Michigan Legacy Art Park, which is located at Crystal Mountain in Thompsonville. We recently got to do a snowy hike through this very unique art experience, and interviewed Angie trailside afterwards. Spread out over thirty beautiful acres, the Art Park boasts two miles of hiking trails that take you around almost fifty different sculptures. The park has been leasing this space from the resort, but just last year Crystal donated the land to the organization permanently. It is a super cool way to experience art, you can enter the park from dawn to dusk, on foot, snowshoes or skis. Then we have a first on Behind the Mitten, as Amy interivews her husband Jerry Adams. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Jerry shares some of his former favorite haunts, and how they have changed over the years. With a daughter currently attending U of M, we visit regularly, and recently got to enjoy burgers and fries at Krazy Jim's Blimpie Burger, a favorite no matter when you graduated. We'll explain how to order these famous burgers, the key is to just answer the question.Next, we'll catch up with our friend Mike Laing, who co-owns two wineries with his brother Peter, Mawby Vineyards and Big Little Wjnes. From all-bubbly to traditional wines, the vineyards make some great liquids, including the super fun, and totally NA Safe Sex from Mawby, and sparkling non-alcoholic additin to their lineup. Learn more about Safe Sex:https://www.spreaker.com/episode/let-s-have-safe-sex-this-valentine-s-day-with-mawby-vineyards--64358477Finally, Brant Austin from Austin Brothers Beer Company in Alpena joins us again. The last time we had them on was a lifetime ago, pre-pandemic. They are celebrating ten years in business at the tip of the pointer here in Michigan, and brothers Blake and Brant couldn't be prouder. Honestly, so are we. This family moved from Californai after falling in love with Alpena on a Griswold-family road trip, and they've built a thriving local business in their adopted home town.
For Episode 68, we pop the cork on a sparkling conversation with Wendy Outhwaite, co-founder of Ambriel, an English sparkling wine producer with a serious commitment to quality—and a playful side to match. Nestled in the rolling hills of West Sussex, Ambriel crafts wines with a “palate, not wallet” approach, letting patience and precision take the lead (some bottles rest on lees for over six years before they make their grand debut). Wendy takes us behind the scenes of Ambriel's journey—from a five-year quest to find the perfect vineyard to embracing greensand terroir that's as rare as it is remarkable. We chat about hand-picking, blind blending, and why the Outhwaites refuse to let their wines leave the estate until they're truly ready. And of course, we dive into Ambriel's spirited branding—think corks stamped with ‘Huzzah!' and a name that gives a nod to angels, ambrosia, and a certain quip from Pope Gregory. With Wendy's razor-sharp wit and infectious passion, this episode is a proper toast to English fizz. So grab a glass, settle in, and let's raise a hearty Huzzah! to the future of British bubbles. Don't say we didn't warn you - because once you try this wine, you may never go back to Prosecco! Don't get us wrong. We like a nice Aperol spritz made with Prosecco, and Prosecco was the sparkling wine that opened our eyes to sparkling wine, but if you want a more elegant, interesting, and food friendly wine, Franciacorta cleans Prosecco's clock! There is a reason that Franciacorta and not Prosecco is considered to be a competitor to Champagne. Made in the same method as Champagne (Prosecco is not) and from similar grapes (which, again, Prosecco is not), Franciacorta has a taste and mouthfeel that is unique and complex, and if there are some of you out there who just don't get what all the fuss is about Champagne or about Prosecco, you may find that Franciacorta is the sparkling wine you have been waiting for. We cover what the similarities and differences are between Franciacorta, Champagne, and Prosecco, and this week, we found two great Franciacorta wines that are excellent options if you are curious and don't want to break the bank. With the holidays coming, I thought it would be a good time to do a show on a different kind of sparkling wine, so this time I cover Italy's premier traditional method sparkling wine, Franciacorta. Map: Consorzio per la tutela del Franciacorta Franciacorta is a high quality Italian sparkling wine made in the area of Brescia in Lombardy (the Italian region where Milan is located). Franciacorta, as a sparkling wine, came into being in the 1960s but it didn't take long for it to gain a favorable reputation, which still holds today. With very distinctive geographical features and a unique microclimate, the wines here are marked by a balance of excellent acidity and lovely aromas of fruit, flowers, nuts and more. The thing that makes Franciacorta stand out among other sparklers from Italy is that wines from this region can only be produced using the traditional method (like Champagne, unlike Prosecco) and must be made primarily from the French grapes – Chardonnay, Pinot nero (Pinot noir), and Pinot bianco (Pinot blanc). Photo: Consorzio per la tutela del Franciacorta Despite the similarities with their French counterpart, the terroir in Franciacorta presents weather patterns that include a lake effect, Alpine breezes, and ample wind. The entire area was formed by glacial movement – no by a small sea receding and leaving a bed of chalky limestone as was the case in Champagne. Priced at a premium, these wines are ideal if you love Champagne or sparkling wine but want something fruitier, fuller, and with less piercing acidity. Photo: Consorzio per la tutela del Franciacorta In this show I cover the history, terroir, grapes, winemaking, and the three types of Franciacorta: nonvintage, rosé, and saten and the overlying classifications of millesimato and riserva. On episode 8 of WineText TV, I dive into the world of Prosecco and sparkling wines. The episode highlights the growing popularity of Prosecco in the U.S., its historical evolution, and its value as a high-quality yet affordable alternative to champagne. Hope you enjoy it! PS: You can watch the full episode on https://www.youtube.com/@winetexttv PSS: Sign up for https://winetext.com America's #1 way to buy wine Here are the four wines I tasted: Non Vintage Ca' Furlan Prosecco "For the price, this wine is a damn success. It hits all the right notes for a DOC Prosecco. The nose has slight floral aromas with a hint of poached apples. The palate is very refreshing, with casual bubbles and great balanced fruit. You could trick some folks into thinking it costs more." Non Vintage Zardetto Prosecco Brut Z Non Vintage "Fresh and sapid. Pleasantly acidic thanks to the citrus note enhanced by the flavour of green apple." - Winery Non Vintage Issimo Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Docg Extra Dry "Direct from the Veneto region, this sparkling white wine is produced in the Heart of the Prosecco producing region in the town of Refrontolo. It is made from 100% Glera grapes that are fermented and then refermented to preserve their organoleptic quality.
