Cannabis comic Ngaio Bealum is back and we are livin' the dream with a pair of movies about strivers who live their dreams, and their dreams are really friggin' weird. First, Nobuko Miyamoto is a single mom with dreams of making the greatest ramen in all of Japan and Tsutomu Yamazaki is the cowboy trucker who is going help her achieve her dream in TAMPOPO, a "ramen western" from director Juzo Itami in 1985. This movie is filled with surreal tangents, tasty-looking food and a fair amount of freaky sex! Describing the plot does not do it justice. It's also hilarious. One of Ngaio's all-time favorites, you'll definitely want the strain--and ramen--recommendations for this one. And then Don Knotts turns into a fish AND fights the Nazis in THE INCREDIBLE MR. LIMPET, a half-animated, half-live-action cross between "The Little Mermaid" and "Hogan's Heroes" from Warner Bros. "Why does Captain America have to be a fish," Ngaio asks, and there really isn't an explanation except that Don Knotts has "fish rizz" according to Philena. So glad Greg could make it for this one so he could talk about classic animators Bill Tytla and Robert McKimson who shaped the amazing cartoon sequences of this baffling maritime classic. We go a little long in the opening segment where we discuss the "fan" reaction to the new-look Shrek, the upcoming release of the animated THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP with Porky Pig and Daffy Duck, and Philena's culty new job + Bob finally saw THE SUBSTANCE! David Lynch left this world on Jan. 16, 2025 at a time when we were all coping with way too much tragedy. While Lynch's drugs of choice were coffee and cigarettes (along with griddle cakes drenched in maple syrup), we pay tribute to him by pairing weed with a selection of his short films and THE WIZARD OF OZ (1939), a movie he was so obsessed with that there's a whole documentary about it. For Lynch's short films, we mostly focus on THE GRANDMOTHER (1970), a 33-minute student film where an abused boy cultivates his own grandma out of a disgusting tree he grows in his bedroom, kind of like using hydroponics to grow weed in your closet. How we didn't make this joke during the episode, we'll never know, but we're doing it now--kinda. Philena was way into both versions of THE AMPUTEE (1974), where Catherine Coulson (the Log Lady from TWIN PEAKS) writes angry breakup letters while a nurse dresses the gushing wound from her severed leg. Because Lynch never gave up on the short film as a means of expression, Bob brings up the more recent WHAT DID JACK DO? (2017) where Lynch trades cliches with a tormented monkey who has the hots for a chicken named Toototabon. THE GRANDMOTHER and THE AMPUTEE are streaming on Criterion Channel, and WHAT DID JACK DO? is streaming on Netflix. And for the WIZARD OF OZ (1939), Greg goes that extra dad rock mile by muting the volume and playing Pink Floyd's DARK SIDE OF THE MOOON over it because somebody had to do it, and that somebody is GREG FRANKLIN. Greg had to leave a little early, so there's a lot of him at the front of this discussion for all you Franklin fanatics out there. We do talk about Alexandre O. Philippe's documentary LYNCH/OZ (2022), but THE WIZARD OF OZ is too big a phenomenon to see it only through that prism. So we discuss the movie's tortured production, the Culver City little person fuck fest that was the Munchkin Land shoot, and the sheer artistry of the MGM musical fantasy classic. From the makeup to the music, where do you begin? Where do you stop? Well, Cory, Bob and Philena stopped by marveling at the tremendous acting ability of Terry, the Cairn Terrier who played Toto. Man, that dog was amazing. THE WIZARD OF OZ is streaming on Max. It's not HBO. It's just Max. Since this is our last episode before the 97th Academy Awards on March 2nd, we offer our Oscar gripes more than our predictions. Bob watched "Emilia Pérez" so you don't have to. There's also much praise for The Substance and three out of four of our intrepid hosts call out the Academy for not nominating the best movie of the year, HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS. What gives Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences??? Be back next month when cannabis comic and regular guest Ngaio Bealum joins of for TAMPOPO (1985) and THE INCREDIBLE MR. LIMPET (1964). //The Wire//2200Z August 26, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: ISRAEL CONDUCTS AIRSTRIKES IN LEBANON. TELEGRAM FOUNDER ARRESTED IN FRANCE. HOUTHIS CONTINUE TO HONE TARGETING TACTICS.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Middle East: Yesterday at approximately 0500B Israeli forces conducted substantial airstrikes within southern Lebanon, reportedly targeting pre-staged Hezbollah rockets. Immediately in retaliation to these strikes, Hezbollah counterattacked by firing hundreds of rockets that Israeli forces did not successfully target. Due to this latest escalation, most commercial aviation has been sporadically halted throughout the region, and Israel has declared a state of emergency for the next 48 hours.France: Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, was arrested by French authorities over the weekend. The arrest was made in conjunction with alleged violations of the European Union mandates within the Digital Services Act (DSA). AC: This arrest was made under many of the same conditions and allegations that other social media platform owners have faced, who do not abide by the EU's censorship mandates. Durov is being prosecuted under the same blanket of threats that the EU has issued to Elon Musk and other social media giants. Consequently, the founder of Rumble, Chris Pavlovski, immediately departed Europe for his own safety, due to the precedent that has now been set.Red Sea/HOA: Houthi targeting continues as before, with some change in tactics. Details of the targeting of the M/V Sounion have come to light, namely that the targeting was possibly not carried out by a cruise missile or unmanned vessel, but by explosive charges being affixed to the side of the vessel by Houthi militants in small craft. This theory is supported by the vessel reporting being shadowed for some time by militants in small craft. AC: Though the use of improvised Limpet mines to target vessels is not a new concept, (if true) this does mark a change in Houthi tactics, which over the past few months have become more broad and technically skilled.-HomeFront-Washington D.C. – The Pentagon is moving forward with the latest round of fleet reduction efforts, and is reportedly planning to mothball 17 more vessels. This fleet reduction is allegedly due to the dwindling numbers of Merchant Mariners that are able to help crew and maintain various classes of support vessel. Most of the vessels marked for placement into “extended maintenance” are Fast Transport ships, and a few replenishment vessels.AC: Of note, two expeditionary seabase vessels (the USS Lewis Puller and the USS Herschel “Woody” Williams) are on the chopping block, which signals the desperation of the fleet. The Puller is a brand-new vessel (being commissioned only in 2017) and has seen only seven years of service before being mothballed. The “Woody” Williams is even newer, only being commissioned in 2020, and having seen only four years of service.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: At this juncture, it would be safe to conclude that the Middle East peace talks have not been successful. The strikes in Lebanon are probably the largest operation carried out by Israel in Lebanon in decades, with well over 45 different sites/towns reportedly being struck in some way. Right now, it is not clear as to if some sort of Israeli ground operation is planned (though this potential appears to be unlikely for the time being). Consequently, the potential for ground forces to become involved (to some degree) cannot be dismissed in the future as Israeli operations expand. What's less clear at the moment is which party is to blame for this latest serious escalation. If Israeli intelligence did indeed intercept the locations of dozens of pre-staged rocket sites, the question remains regarding how Hezbollah was able to launch hundreds of rockets within just a few minutes of the first Israe

Ok, we get it. Maybe we can't just climb into an aquarium and expect to automatically win a bunch of random chance games against some fish. But what if we make ourselves really tiny first? And what if one of us is scuba certified? And what if we get an octopus involved? It probably still wont work, yeah, WE KNOW. At least eating the other contestants isn't explicitly off the table this time. For five decades Don Knotts charmed the public from early work as an ensemble player on The Steve Allen Show to his long run as Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife on The Andy Griffith Show to more family-friendly Disney movies than you can count, Don turned his "nervous man" personal into comedy gold. Later in his career, Don found a niche in small, but juicy supporting roles on Three's Company and in movies such as Pleasantville -- and he also reunited with Andy Griffith for the Matlock series. In the thirty-eighth episode of Making Mt. Rushmore, host/moderator Steve Riddle welcomes Keith Langston, James Gruenberg, Chico Alexander, Rob Kinler & Andy Atherton to discuss which Non-Disney & Pixar Animated Films deserve a place on their respective lists. Is Shrek a no-brainer? What about The Simpsons Movie? Does The Secret of NIMH grab a spot? Does An American Tail or Despicable Me deserve a place? After that, they discuss which Live-Action & Animated Hybrid Films will be part of that grouping. Can you argue that Who Framed Roger Rabbit? shouldn't get a spot? Will Space Jam be included? Is Cool World in the conversation? What about The LEGO Movie & The Incredible Mr. Limpet?

Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast we bring you Richard Duggan, son of the late and great character actor Andrew Duggan. There were so many jumping off points actor who had almost 200 acting credits to his name on Broadway, television and film, we simply chose to jump right in. Andrew Duggan was known for a variety of roles in war films, Westerns, horror movies. For film buffs, he starred in films like Seven Days in May with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglass. and In Like Flint with James Coburn. For TV fans, Duggan starred in everything from Alfred Hitchcock Presents to Lancer which plays a major role in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He was the voice of Bud Light for years as well as the Clio winning “Friend of the Family (Rust in Peace.” He starred on stage in The Rose Tattoo and Fragile Fox. He even starred in TV movies like The Deadliest Season with Meryl Streep in her first role and Rich Man, Poor Man. And that doesn't even begin to tell the story of his roles in The Incredible Mr. Limpet, Doctor Detroit or F-Troop. We talk about Richard's years growing up in Westwood where we find out he and our host went to the same high school as well as Richard's years acting and doing improv which led to roles in Troma's Toxic Avenger, Sam Arkoff's Q: The Winged Serpent, and Larry Cohen's It's Alive!. Most importantly, this might be the only podcast where you learn that Robin Williams studied Improv at the Pitzer colleges, Richard's alma mater. It's all next, when we talk to Rick Dalton, I mean Richard Duggan, on the Rarified Heir Podcast. Everyone has a story.

As dirty as I pretended The Little Mermaid was, this DEFINITELY has very kinky undertones. So not to kink shame, but Mr. Limpet, starring Don Knotts in his first lead role in a film is about a guy who clearly is okay with his buddy banging his wife, because he really wants to bang fish...oh yeah, and join the Navy to fight Nazis. But he's REALLY into fish. Like, as soon as he magically turns into a fish, he immediately falls in love with one. And he fights Nazis, but he REALLY wants to spawn with this lady fish...appropriately named Ladyfish. This one is a doozy! Our friend Jeff Siadak, who by all accounts is a great human being and had a near perfect track record of friendship before this, suggested this one. I'm your host, Kate Shaw. This week we're going to learn about some indestructible animals, or at least animals that are incredibly tough. You may be surprised to learn that they're all invertebrates. It's a suggestion by Nicholas, and one of the animals Nicholas suggested was also suggested by Emma. We'll start with that one, the scaly-foot gastropod, a deep-sea snail. We actually covered this one a few years ago but only in a Patreon episode. I went ahead and unlocked that episode so that anyone can listen to it, since I haven't done that in a while, so the first part of this episode will sound familiar if you just listened to that one. The scaly-foot gastropod lives around three hydrothermal vents in the Indian Ocean, about 1 ¾ miles below the surface, or about 2,800 meters. The water around these vents, referred to as black smokers, can be more than 350 degrees Celsius. That's 660 degrees F, if you even need to know that that's too hot to live. The scaly-foot gastropod was discovered in 2001 but not formally described until 2015. The color of its shell varies from almost black to golden to white, depending on which population it's from, and it grows to almost 2 inches long, or nearly 5 cm. It doesn't have eyes, and while it does have a small mouth, it doesn't use it for eating. Instead, the snail contains symbiotic bacteria in a gland in its esophagus. The bacteria convert toxic hydrogen sulfide from the water around the hydrothermal vents into energy the snail uses to live. It's a process called chemosynthesis. In return, the bacteria get a safe place to live. The snail's shell contains an outer layer made of iron sulfides. Not only that, the bottom of the snail's foot is covered with sclerites, or spiky scales, that are also mineralized with iron sulfides. While the snail can't pull itself entirely into its shell, if something attacks it, the bottom of its foot is heavily armored and its shell is similarly tough. Researchers are studying the scaly-foot gastropod's shell to possibly make a similar composite material for protective gear and other items. The inner layer of the shell is made of a type of calcium carbonate, common in mollusk shells and some corals. The middle layer of the shell is regular snail shell material, organic periostracum, [perry-OSS-trickum] which helps dissipate heat as well as pressure from squeezing attacks, like from crab claws. And the outer layer, of course, is iron sulfides like pyrite and greigite. Oh, and since greigite is magnetic, the snails stick to magnets. Unfortunately, the scaly-foot gastropod is endangered due to deep-sea mining around its small, fragile habitat. Hopefully conservationists can get laws passed to protect the thermal vents and all the animals that live around them. The scaly-foot gastropod is the only animal known that incorporates iron sulfide into its skeleton or exoskeleton, although our next indestructible animal, the diabolical ironclad beetle, has iron in its name. The diabolical ironclad beetle lives in western North America, especially in dry areas. It grows up to an inch long, or 25 mm, and is a dull black or dark gray in color with bumps and ridges that make it look like a piece of tree bark. Since it lives on trees,

Don Knotts, born Jesse Donald Knotts (1924-2006), was the legendary funnyman who made Barney Fife from the Andy Griffith Show (1960-1968) one of the most beloved characters in television comedy. He also made many movies with Tim Conway (1933-1019) such as The Incredible Mr. Limpet, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken and The Apple Dumpling Gang. I met Karen Knotts, his daughter, when we were roommates and booth-mates at a National Arts Conference, APAP. Karen inherited her father's sense of timing and humor and we laughed through our days and evenings together. I wanted to interview her for a couple reasons. First to celebrate her new book, Tied Up in Knotts, which is also the name of her one-woman-show and also to explore what it was like to grow up under a famous actor-father to enter show business for herself. The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966) plus Bonus Movie - The Incredible Mr. Limpet (1964) That's right it's the Don Knotts special episode you've all been clamoring for! The Ghost and Mr. Chicken is a 1966 American comedy horror film starring Don Knotts as Luther Heggs, the town dunce and a newspaper typesetter who spends a night in a haunted house, which is located in the fictitious community of Rachel, Kansas. The working title was Running Scared. The title is presumably a humorous variation of the film The Ghost and Mrs. Muir (1947). The Incredible Mr. Limpet is a 1964 American live-action/animated comedy film produced by Warner Bros. and based on the 1942 novel Mr. Limpet by Theodore Pratt. It is about a man named Henry Limpet who turns into a talking fish and helps the U.S. Navy locate and destroy Nazi submarines. Don Knotts plays the title character. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ghost_and_Mr._Chicken https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Incredible_Mr._Limpet

In the film we get to see Julia's reconciliation with her family and we get to see her confront her own transphobic jokes she made on television before she transitioned.Today the hilarious comedian Julia Scotti joins us to take a look at her amazing comedy career and life as a trans mom in the new documentary “She's Funny That Way” directed by first time documentary filmmaker Susan Sandler, writer of the Golden Globe nominated film Crossing Delancey.★ JULIA SCOTTI: https://www.juliascotti.com★ WATCH SHE'S FUNNY THAT WAY: https://www.juliascottifilm.comPlus- A look at the comedy legend Don Knotts and the wonderfully strange movie The Incredible Mr. Limpet, which in hindsight could have been a trans allegory.Put a tip in our tip jar: ★ feastoffun.com/donate
Chris and Erica continue on with this month's theme of 'ooops! I'm an animal!' and discuss the 1964 film "The Incredible Mr. Limpet".
Don Knotts is perhaps best know as Deputy Sheriff Barney Fife from The Andy Griffith Show. But you also remember him as Ralph Furley from Three's Company. Maybe you remember him from The Apple Dumpling Gang movies, or The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, or The Shakiest Gun in the West. Or The Incredible Mr. Limpet. Don Knotts had a decades-long entertainment career, which actually began soon after World War II, but which really took off when he reconnected with his old friend Andy Griffith. I met Don Knotts in November 1999, when he wrote a book called Barney Fife And Other Characters I Have

Cody makes the group listen to the 51-minute long (!!!) 1999 album "LFO," by the artist LFO (also known as Lyte Funkie Ones). Grant, Cody, and Lillian try their best to decipher the insane lyrics which feature: Scooby Snacks, Mr. Limpet, chicken pop love, multiple references to erections, sprinkles on apple pie, and former tootsie pops. How long does it take to get to the center of this album? The world may never know, but this threesome certainly tries. Our pain is your pleasure. Matt from Spectology joins us again to talk about stuff tangentially related to Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Buckle up, because we start out with a pretty tenuous connection, and then things get weirder… We started by watching the Murder She Wrote video by Chaka Demus and Pliers because Angela Lansbury was in a show by the same name so uh… we decided this was on theme. Many butts in this, though, unlike in Bedknobs and Broomsticks, they aren’t getting kicked by suits of armor. Next we watched the commercial for the Murder She Wrote TV movie South By Southwest. And a commercial for Murder She Wrote on USA. 312 murders a year, because one good murder deserves another. And then Geoffrey showed everyone Positive Moves, a video that seems to be made to encourage older women to take care of their bodies and be sex positive, starring Angela Lansbury. And finally, we watched a clip of the movie Julia was mashing Bedknobs and Broomsticks up with. Here’s The Incredible Mr Limpet’s “I wish I were a fish”clip. We don’t want to wait another million years to send you MOAR show notes, so if you aren’t already signed up for our newsletter, consider doing that now!If you’re having fun listening to us, please tell your friends about us! Matt from the Spectology podcast joins us to talk about one of his childhood faves, Bedknobs and Broomsticks. This is another one you can catch on Disney+ if you want to play the home game!We talk witchcraft, imperialism, rigid enforcement of gender roles, and also a bunch of fun stuff. Matt watched this one a bunch when he was a kid, but somehow forgot that it had animated bits???Here’s his hazy summary:“It is England during World War 2 and some children from the city are sent to live with a cool old witch who lives in the middle of nowhere in the countryside. They don't believe in either her, or magic (or the Nazis? or they're the only ones who do believe in the Nazis?), or any of the above, and she doesn't believe in children. Good thing the Nazis are...invading this tiny town via submarine? So it's up to the witch to use magic to animate a bunch of furniture which then becomes an army the children lead against the Nazis and they win and World War 2 is saved!”Julia, meanwhile, remembered that this was live action and animated, but mashed it up with a movie starring Don Knotts called The Incredible Mr. Limpet. Clearly we’re going to have to take that one on at some point… If you’re having fun listening to us, please tell your friends about us! This is the third and final part of Tyler and Don's review of Ian Fleming's second James Bond book Live And Let Die (1954). In a series of three podcasts they go through the adventure chapter by chapter, providing as much background information as they could gather. Part 3 covers chapters 16 - 23 of the book. Where parts one and two could be titled ‘New York' and ‘Florida' respectively, part three is all about Jamaica. Bond flies to Kingston, where he meets Strangways and Quarrel. Miraculously, in about a week's time, Bond gets into peak physical condition for his night-time swim to Mr. Big's island. However, this doesn't prevent 007 from being attacked by sharks and barracuda and being captured (again) by Mr. Big's men. The villain then proceeds to drag Solitaire and our hero behind his yacht towards both the deadly reef and an explosive climax. For this podcast additional audio clips were recorded by - Mark Redfield on Jamaican locations (http://www.themarkredfieldcompany.com) - Jonathan Goodwin on shark repellant (https://www.dontgointothecellar.com) - Agent Goldenvoice on benzedrine Obviously, this podcast is filled with spoilers, so if you haven't read Live And Let Die yet, you have been warned! This is the second (okay, third) conversation with Andrea. We cover her coming out as a transgender woman while working in state government in Arkansas; starting the Arkansas Transgender Equality Coalition (ARTEC); introducing Bernie Sanders in Portland (the bird rally!); and finding her place in activism. Links below to people, places, and things discussed. Uppity Women is hosted by Stephanie Harris, founder of Women Lead Arkansas, a non-partisan nonprofit whose mission is to empower women and girls to engage in politics, policy, and leadership. This podcast is meant to showcase women (and men!) doing cool things; be a place for hard conversations we need to have before we can make progress (race, politics, feminism, etc.); bring people together to figure sh!t out and get stuff done; and generally thumb our noses at anyone who would tell us what we may or may not do as women. This week TMI dive right into the dry safety of the mall megaplex to devour The Meg, and then stick with the marine movie theme to re-visit the 1964 classic The Incredible Mr. Limpet. AND, the confessional this week begs our team to get creative as it asks, "How Would You Get Rid of the Meg?" Jason Statham is waiting to hear our thoughts, so lets go! Did I mention TMI can't swim?
In Episode XXI the crew dives deeper into the 1964 submarine film The Incredible Mr. Limpet starring the one and only Don Knotts, Carole Cook, and Jack Weston. In this submarine movie, Henry Limpet wants to serve the US Navy in WWII but can’t due to failing multiple physicals. He then wishes that he could become a fish, and he does! He meets new underwater friends and gets his opportunity to help fight Nazi U-Boats. Get excited as Jamie updates us on his quest to have Steel Sharks approved for Wikipedia, movie trivia, the Phantom Zone, Subs Worldwide, Brom’s Countdown, and Zac Facts in this episode of Submersion.
CREATURE FEATURE SEASON CONTINUES! We put down our copies of Playduck and take Deepest Bluest off the record player long enough to review three fishy tales! The Poppins Clause rears it's ugly head again! No one knows what to make of Howard the Duck! Deep Blue Sea is terrible! Limpet is strange! It's a poor week, but an entertaining one nonetheless. This week we would have been previewing Star Trek II-IV, having a lovely quiz about Star Trek and chatting about Mr. Limpet. But instead Sam is an idiot and deleted various files that made this episode impossible to air, and so instead he rambles into a microphone for ten minutes whilst being harassed by his cat. Next week will be a bumper episode though, so dont miss it! Cheers x GIVE US 5 STARS ON ITUNES! (https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/science-fiction-rating-system/id1200805447) Get in touch! http://www.attractionchecklist.com - Our next stop is Disney California Adventure to ride The Little Mermaid - Ariel's Undersea Adventure to see how it compares to Magic Kingdom's version. Along for the ride is Suzie and we discuss our thoughts after you ride along with us Recorded on November 24, 2016. As a companion piece to last episode, this episode we are headed to Disney California Adventure to ride The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure. The guide map's lackluster description of this ride says, “Be part of Ariel’s world aboard this attraction!” There are no age or height requirements for this attraction and the Thrill Level describes the ride as bing a Loud, Dark Slow Ride. Before we set sail, here are five fast facts about The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure. 1. Located in the Paradise Pier (soon to be Paradise Park) section of Disney California Adventure, The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure officially opened on June 3, 2011. It took over the spot in the park previously occupied by Golden Dreams, a film about the history of California narrated by Whoopi Goldberg. 2. The statue of King Triton on the attraction’s exterior was related there from the, now defunct, Triton Gardens in Disneyland. 3. The mural that can be seen in the ride’s load area where you board your clam-mobile is 86 feet long and was painted entirely by hand. 4. The animatronic figure of Ursula in the attraction is the biggest on the ride measuring 7 1/2 feet tall and 12 feet wide. 5. This attraction boasts a tribute to the movie The Incredible Mr. Limpet, a film where Don Knotts turns into a fish named Mr. Limpet. In the Under the Sea sequence of the ride, Mr. Limpett can be spotted directly across from where Ariel is dancing. So now, let’s ride The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s’ Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure and see how it compares to Magic Kingdom’s Under The Sea - Journey of the Little Mermaid. Suzie is along for the ride today and after we ride we’ll discuss out thoughts on this attraction. This is a binaural recording so if you have headphones put them on now as we experience, The Little Mermaid - Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure. Jackie and Dunlap talk about: Flynn resigns! FBI investigates! Trump campaign talked to Russia! Flynn talked to Russia! Russia's in the water! Republicans love Russia now! Maybe not McCain! Also not Corker! But Lamar Alexander loves Hardee's! Trump gives a press conference! It's nuts! Trump is the least racist person! Then he asks a black reporter if she knows the Black Congressional Caucus! Then he responds to a question about anti-Semitism by talking about his election results! Fake news! Crooked media! Nice questions! Leaks are bad! And illegal! Investigate the leaks! Paul Ryan! Mr. Limpet calming fish! Dead North Korean dictator brother! Andrew Puzder withdraws his nomination! I guess it's back to Hardee's for Puzder! Oprah dropped off a tape! Navy Seal Harward turns down offer as Flynn replacement! Trump meets with Netanyahu! Steve Bannon and Reince Priebus are friends! Get Fox News alerts on your phone! And most importantly: "Thunder Island" is the lead single off of the album Thunder Island by American musician Jay Ferguson. The song reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. Despite the song's high position on the music charts, the song today is rarely heard on classic rock radio stations. The recording features Joe Walsh on guitar. It appears in the 2013 film Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues and the 2004 film Miracle. As this was Ferguson's highest-ranking song on the charts, he is sometimes tagged a one-hit wonder- however, he achieved an additional hit with the song "Shakedown Cruise" in 1979, which reached #31 on the Hot 100. Sponsors: The Case for Christ and Naked Church. Podcasting from Dunlap's grandmother's basement in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Jackie Broyles and Dunlap yell about President Ultimate Yankee Donald Trump and baby tantrums and his alt-right Nazi cabinet henchmen, Steve Bannon and Elizabeth Warren, Priebus and Putin, liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans, Never-Trumps and Bernie bros, Deplorables and RINOs, fake news, fake sponsors, national politics, pop culture and current events, Trump's America and, let's be honest, the end of the world. If you like sophisticated satire, nuanced political humor, and redneck shitkicking hillbilly country comedy Hee-Haw moonshine outhouse Blue Collar donkey cartoon face, this is the podcast for you. I mean "y'all."
Radio and podcast personality (and lifelong Gilbert fan) Ira Glass drops by the studio to share his love of, among other things, old-school entertainment, classic comedy albums, the Frank Sinatra songbook and the grand spectacle of "The Poseidon Adventure." Also, Sammy Davis Jr. finds religion, Davy Jones finds inspiration, Ruth Buzzi hangs (or doesn't) with Orson Welles and Ira crashes the set of a legendary sitcom. PLUS: "The Komodo Dragon Expert"! Red Buttons' sister! The mercurial Zero Mostel! Yoko Ono improvises! And "The Incredible Mr. Limpet!" This episode is brought to you Harold Ramis Film School. Learn more about your ad choices. Each week, comedian Gilbert Gottfried and comedy writer Frank Santopadre share their appreciation of lesser-known films, underrated TV shows and hopelessly obscure character actors -- discussing, dissecting and (occasionally) defending their handpicked guilty pleasures and buried treasures. STEP IN TIME: Remembering Disney's Matinee Movies is back and this time we are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1975 classic film - Walt Disney's THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG! J oining us on this journey to the old west are special guests Steve Glosson and Teresa Delgado of Disney Vault Talk. They bring their brand of fun and fond memories to the conversation while Richard reminisces about his first childhood crush, Celia (Stacy Manning), and Sarah watches the film for the first time in her life. For anyone else who has not seen this film yet or hasn't seen it in a while, here is a refresher on THE APPLE DUMPLING GANG. Bill Bixby (The Incredible Hulk) plays Russell Donovan, a slick gambler duped into taking care of a trio of mischievous orphans named Bobby, Cloves and Celia. Meanwhile, outlaw wanna-be's Tim Conway (The Carol Burnett Show) and Don Knotts (Andy Griffith Show, The Incredible Mr. Limpet) are out to rob anyone they think has anything worth stealing. Set in the Old West during The California Gold Rush, it's a fun ride. The children miraculously strike it rich, but that's when bad guys come out of the woodwork to steal the gold. It's up to The Apple Dumpling Gang to keep it, and their home with Russell Donovan, safe and sound. Hilarity ensues, and so does our conversation. Exactly how does a show roll from The Apple Dumpling Gang into the 80's sex-romp comedy, Porkey's? Two words, Kevin Kostner. Now you know why we’ve watched this film. Armin Mortazavi, one of the awesome people we met during the Montreal Sauce podcast live from CDM graciously joined us to experience Waterworld. Where can you watch it? (Or, avoid it?) Buy the Blu-Ray Or stream it: iTunes Amazon Here’s our notes, although be warned, they got wet and were hard to transcribe: Water is expensive. In 1995, this was the most expensive movie to date until Titanic was made two years later. Batman Forever made more money than this film at the box office. Yet, Waterworld finished above great films like Braveheart and Outbreak. There’s a live Waterworld show at Universal Studios theme park? According to Wikipedia it was award winning and ran for 10 years. This film is bold in its world-building, but cartoonish like a USA Up All Night movie, something like Hell Comes To Frogtown. Armin drops science on us. Why not convert sea water to drinking water instead of urine? Who does Kostner think he is, Chris Hadfield? Chris calls the film Von Dutch Punk. There’s lots of lipstick in the dystopian future for Jeanne Tripplehorn. Michael Jeter speaks his own strange language in this film, much like in The Green Mile. Is it recycling or Soylent Green? Dennis Hopper is our satirical villain and sort of fun. Baymax in Big Hero 6 has more dialogue than Kostner in this film. When Chris berates the little girl’s drawing, Arturo in the chatroom chimes in to ask, “How many opportunities does one get to draw on a Waterworld. Armin says Kostner is taking Tripplehorn to Futurama’s old New York. The guys are confused that people don’t remember dry land but do remember Captain Joseph Hazelwood. Kostner does the rear axle movie trick to an airplane? Paul wonders if Waterworld is the sequel to Zardoz. Armin’s review, “I don’t even know why I am watching this?” Chris says this is no Space Truckers which is not saying much. Lots of fun lore included on the imdb page and Wikipedia page for this film. Armin suggests that you watch Blade Runner instead of this film. If you see have seen Waterworld, Paul suggests that you watch Armageddon and pretend Michael Bay directed both. If you haven’t seen it, watch Splash instead. Chris suggests Damnation Alley for your post apocalyptic needs or The Incredible Mr. Limpet if you’re into fish-people. Thanks to Armin for joining the guys. Check out his “cartoon endeavors” at biasedcat.blogspot.ca. Hopefully, we can get Armin back if he wasn’t scared away by the Kostner film.
