On a morning where the cherry blossoms were blooming and Scott was watching his UAB Blazers lose a heart breaker at the NIT, Greg sat down with Ken Crippen, founder and executive director of The Football Learning Academy, to discuss the mission of the FLA and his thoughts on how the game has changed over the decades. The online academy is the first educational institution devoted to the instruction on the history of the gridiron game, with proceeds benefiting retired players. Ken is also the former president of the Professional Football Researchers Association (PFRA). He has been researching and writing about pro football history for over twenty years. In that time, he has published two books, including one about the original Buffalo Bills, and numerous articles. He has also won multiple writing awards, including the 2012 Professional Football Writers Association (PFWA) Dick Connor Writing Award for feature writing, and the 2011 Ralph Hay Award by the PFRA for lifetime achievement in pro football history.

When Ashley Matheny was growing up, she always thought she would be a Public School Teacher. She imagined herself teaching for 30 years and then retiring. While she did end up teaching public school, it didn't go exactly as planned. She taught for several years, but around year 4, she began to feel ‘burnt out'. After a medical leave of absence, Ashley ended up resigning.During her time of healing, Ashley's mind was opened up to new ways of living out her calling. She started out as an online tutor around 2015, and eventually broke out into tutoring on her own for a family from Orlando. She created a program for that family at the beginning of the pandemic, and then one Sunday evening she created the website for Whole Child Learning Academy. From there, more families began to sign up, and she is in year three of the program. We are excited to share this awesome schooling option with you and hope to open your mind up to new possibilities in education!Episode Highlights:Background on AshleyHow Ashley started Whole Child Learning AcademyParent/Teacher CommunicationMore on Ashley & Whole Child Learning Academy: Whole Child Learning Academy WebsiteEmail: ashley@wholechildu.com More on Love Your School/Links Mentioned in Episode:Visit Our Show Notes Page HERE!Kim@loveyourschoolwv.orgLeah@loveyourschoolwv.org www.loveyourschool.orgVisit our Facebook HERE!
