This week on the pod Jeff, John, & Dave drink beer to help us discuss Don't Worry Darling, the new film which has characters drinking like Don Draper and spitting like Mr. Ed. Oh, we kid. There's been a very strange marketing campaign, which we're not sure was intentional or not, but there are good ideas in the film, we think. We discuss! Cast/Creatives: Olivia Wilde, Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Timothy Simons, KiKi Layne, Katie Silberman, Matthew Libatique, John Powell. Mike and Chris talk about lens flares, light leaks, and film burn. They talk about what they are, their application, and if you should use them. They also talk about how they are created and the history of each effect. Support the show (http://www.videomaker.com/)
The year was 2009. Barack Obama was president in the United States. The economy was tanking. ands JJ Abrams had made a new Star Trek movie. It had Kirk and Spock and Bones... Uhura, Sulu, Chekov... the *whole* gang. And, for many, it is was jump started this new era of Star Trek shows. So... we did a watchalong. Akie and Stevie start with the movie that (re)started it all. the blandly titled "Star Trek." That said, apart from its title, there is very little bland about it. From the fight scenes, to Sulu's sword, to Eric Bana as the distraught captain Nero, to, yes, a cameo by Leonard Nimoy! Also, every few seconds: LENS FLARES. I mean, what more could you want?! The Matrix Reloaded On this episode, producer Jeremy returns and we explore the massive marketing campaign leading up to Reloaded's release, how MTV turned this film into parody fodder, why the CGI pioneered the look of modern blockbusters and Jada Pinkett Smith managed to redeem Will's blunder at passing on the original film. Listen to our full episode for our choices of Lens Flares, Red Shirts and Toxic Fandom as well as our rating and tune in next time as we continue our deep dive into the Matrix series as we review The Matrix Revolutions.
Alien: Resurrection On this episode, we'll examine Joss Whedon's potential problems with women, why so many filmmakers have disowned this franchise, what it took for Sigourney Weaver to reprise her role and is genetic memory actually possible? Listen to the full episode for our breakdown as well as our choices of Lens Flares, Red Shirts, This Week in Toxic Fandom and the return of Who's Not Doing Their Job. Tune in next time as we explore how deep the rabbit hole really goes as we resume our look into the Matrix series and the much hyped sequel, The Matrix Reloaded
This week we dive into the flaming pile of trash of a film, Roger Christian‘s 2000 Battlefield Earth starring: John Travolta, Barry Pepper, Forest Whitaker, Kim Coates, and Sabine Karsenti. Along the way we ask, just how much Scientology lore is present here, why did John Travolta believe in this project so much, and dare we say, is there potential for a remake? Let's dive in... On this episode, we examine how John Travolta's devotion to Scientology doomed this movie from the start, how an all knowing alien is more boring than compelling, and why this film is not only bad, but a prime example of bad filmmaking. Listen to the full episode for Sean and Chris' choices of Lens Flares, Red Shirts as well as the latest entry of This Week in Toxic Fandom and their not so surprising rating. This time, we're concluding our look into the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy and War for the Planet of the Apes and along the way we ask, is this a war film or a sci-fi film, is this more like Heart of Darkness or Bridge on the River Kwai and what's the future of this franchise? Let's dive in… On this episode, we examine how charismatic and devious Woody Harrelson's character is, how Caesar is betraying the central tenets of his existence, how a sci-fi film manages to also be a war film, how Caesar's legacy can live on after his community finds peace, how we can avoid the world depicted in these films and why this trilogy managed to be overlooked year after year. Listen to the full episode for Sean and Chris' choices of Lens Flares, Red Shirts as well as a new entry for This Week in Toxic Fandom and our rating. The 1950s saw the rise of the contactees, a group of ordinary people that had been chosen by aliens from Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn to deliver a message to the citizens of earth: save the planet from atomic fallout. The message was always the same, and their cultures were strikingly similar. In 1957, a UFO event would change all that. In October, a young Brazilian farmer was forced on board a UFO, stripped of his clothes, mated with an alien woman, and had blood taken from his chin, before being taken on a tour of the craft and deposited back on earth. The events of the Antônio Villas Boas abduction occurred four years before what many believe to be the first abduction case, Betty and Barney Hill. But in many ways the Antônio Villas Boas story sets itself apart from the rest as the analog abduction, an event devoid of high strangeness in many ways. Was sind Eure Theorien? Schickt uns Euer Feedback per E-Mail an info@nerdizismus.de, per Telegram an @nerdizismus oder Whatsapp bzw. SMS an +49 152 596 477 09

Star Trek: Generations. When the cast of the original Star Trek series returned to the screen in 1979’s Star Trek: The Motion Picture, it marked the culmination of 10 years of fan-ticipation that started with the untimely cancellation of the series. This was not the case when it came time for the cast of The Next Generation to leap to the silver screen. They began filming their own freshman movie immediately after wrapping their final TV episode. Using the same sets—albeit spruced up a bit—and following a script written by wunderkinds Brannon Braga and Ronald D. Moore long before they bashed out the series finale “All Good Things...”, the movie faced an uphill battle in attempting to convince fans that cinematic Trek was truly a different beast from the beloved TV show. And yet in the hands of longtime Next Gen director David Carson, Generations did just that, offering a feast for the eyes, truly cinematic storytelling and an eye for spectacle that set it apart from the previous weekly instalments. Whether or not the film worked dramatically, it most certainly deserved to be seen on the big screen. In this episode of Primitive Culture, host Duncan Barrett is joined by Dr. Chris Nunn at the University of Greenwich in London for a look at this key transitional moment in the continuing mission of Star Trek: The Next Generation. They consider Generations in relation to other TV-to-movie leaps, including The X-Files movie released only a few years later, which was required to slot into place within that show’s ongoing continuity. They also look at the pairing of Captains Kirk and Picard in the film, asking whether this particular double-act—“the most ambitious crossover event in Star Trek history”, as a popular meme might have it—succeeds or fails in attempting to serve two very different masters. The Nerds are back on Trek. Nach ihrem Abgang bei The Walking Dead geht es also nun ins All. Just Sayin' O Tempora, o Mores.

We do our full review of Logan, talk about rumors of a new Matrix movie, and the new Samurai Jack. We talk about the issues being reported in early reviews of Mass Effect: Andromeda and updates to Space Hulk: Deathwing. For our main topic, we discuss how budget affects game quality.
In this episode we speak with soon turning pro Sean Fromme'. We talk to Sean about his arc from being diagnosed being ADHD in the 3rd grade to switching from hockey to golf at age 14. We also talk about his amazing academic turnaround once he gave in and started taking Adderall as an earl teenager.
In this video you'll learn how to include lens flares within the CameraFX post processing pipeline inside of Action. In other words you can decide whether lens flares or light rays are affected by any Matchbox CameraFX you apply within Action. We'll examine the benefits of both scenarios.
This video covers Lens Flare Customization. The lens flares are very flexible through the use of procedurally generated textures to create tons of customizations. But did you know that you can also use real lens textures to give your composites accurate photo-realism when it comes down to the lens used on the shoot. We'll cover diffuse map texturing as well as the new Matchbox Texture Grid shader to really push the customization of lens flares with real lens element textures.
We discuss Spider-man joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and what that means for both Disney and Sony. We also toss out our casting choices for the new web slinger. Next we talk about the possibility of Star Wars: The Force Awakens moving up to this summer. Could it really happen? Finally, we review the 2013 Joseph Gordon-Levitt film Don Jon. Yeah, that talk is most certainly not safe for work. For our Feb. 27 podcast we will be reviewing 1993's True Romance. So re-watch it or, like Tim, watch it for the first time.

Abrams, Part 3: Super 8. In between Star Trek films, J.J. Abrams took a break from the franchise to direct his passion project, Super 8. The film, about a group of kids who accidentally film the wreck of a government train transporting an alien, is Abrams's homage to Spielberg-era sci-fi blockbusters. In this episode of Commentary: Trek Stars, Max and Mike are joined by John Mills of Words with Nerds to look at Abrams's most personal movie to date. We discuss the motivations of alien, what's inside the mystery box, and of course, lens flares. Max also answers a listener's question about what movies he thinks are good. Send us your feedback! This week, Joseph wraps up the week with a clip from ‘Jack Reacher', The Man of Steel in Handcuffs and some thoughts on what that means, the Netflix deal with Disney and the head scratcher that it doesn't go into effect until 2016, the upcoming ‘Tron 3', TJ's review of ‘Men in Black 3', his ‘Rise of the Guardians' review and how disappointed he was in that film, and what's currently in theaters and doing well in the box office, ‘Breaking Dawn: Part II', ‘Skyfall', ‘Lincoln', ‘Life of Pi', ‘Wreck-it Ralph', ‘Red Dawn', and ‘Flight'.
Seid gespannt!
