Sunday Edition Presents: Teaching Audio Description a conversation  Live from the Adrian Archt Center  with Dr. Joel Snyder  & Eric Lipp C.E.O. of Open Doors Organization explains new regulations flying with Guide Dogs   This week Anthony and the Sunday Edition crew go behind the scenes live with Dr. Joel as he imparts his vast knowledge of Audio Description with the new crop of Audio Describers at the Adrian Archt Center in Miami. We will get to hear some of the sample description they come up with and we will chat about the process.   Dr. Joel Snyder is known internationally as one of the world's first “audio describers,” a pioneer in the field of Audio Description, a translation of visual images to vivid language for the benefit, primarily, of people who are blind or have a vision impairment.  Since 1981, Dr. Snyder has introduced audio description techniques in over 40 states and 65countries and has made thousands of live events, media projects and museums accessible.  Most recently, Dr. Snyder was named a Fulbright Scholar to train audio describers in Greece and Ukraine over a four-week period. In 2014, the American Council of the Blind published Dr. Snyder's book, The Visual Made Verbal – A Comprehensive Training Manual and Guide to the History and Applications of Audio Description, available as an audio book, in Braille,in screen reader accessible formats, and in English, Polish, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, and Chinese print editions.    Then in our second hour we will discuss the changing regulations for flying with our Guides, travel forms and the founding of Open Doors Organization.     **Eric Lipp, Executive Director, Open Doors Organization **   Eric founded Open Doors Organization (ODO) in 2000 after personally experiencing the restrictions that people with disabilities face in everyday life due to a lack of awareness and knowledge by businesses. In the 23 years since, he has assisted countless companies, primarily in travel, tourism, and transportation, to better serve the disability community while also encouraging individuals with disabilities to travel. Among his most notable accomplishments are the four Market Studies on Travelers with Disabilities, most recently in 2020, which are viewed in the travel industry as the definitive source for statistics on travel by Americans with disabilities.   Eric has worked on numerous government-funded research projects focused on accessible travel under the United States National Academy of Sciences including the Multimodal and Accessible Travel Standards Assessment, ACRP Report 210 “Innovative Solutions to Facilitate Accessibility for Airport Travelers with Disabilities", and the Accessible Transportation Technologies Research Initiative's "User Needs Assessment", which determined the general categories of disability recognized in travel-related research today.    Eric is a recognized expert in universal design, the unique needs of people with all types of disabilities, and U.S. and international disability regulations. He sits on multiple advisory boards including those of Alaska Airlines, Amtrak, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, United Airlines, and the Transportation Security Administration's Aviation Security Advisory Council, where he co-chairs the Passengers with Disabilities Working Group. He was also recently appointed to the United States Travel and Tourism Advisory Board under the U.S. Department of Commerce.   Find out more at https://acb-sunday-edition.pinecast.co

While born in New Zealand, Dolf de Roos grew up with a lot of travel and moving around. Today, speaking six languages and holding global business interests, he considers himself a citizen of the world. While studying Electrical Engineering at the University of Canterbury, Dolf realized the field would never be a lucrative one. A subsequent nine-month study of the rich followed to determine what qualities the financially blessed had in common. Almost without exception, the wealthy either made their money through property or held their wealth in property. He entered the world of Real Estate and never looked back. Dolf de Roos has published 11 Best-Selling books including the New York Times Best Seller, Real Estate Riches. He teaches at events AND institutions in over 16 countries including Tony Robbins' Wealth Mastery. He also worked with Robert Kiyosaki and wrote the Rich Dad's Advisorseries on real estate. He has appeared on over 5,000 radio stations throughout the world. In 2003, Dolf became Visiting Professor of Real Estate at the University of North Texas. Outside of teaching others how to change their lives through real estate, Dolf's passion is to tap into the psychology of his students and help them to overcome their greatest obstacles, as he realized that without the correct mindset, it is difficult for anyone to amass a fortune. Why do TSOs and DSOs need to cooperate more than in the past? Viviana Vitto, Head of Market Studies and Strategic Analysis at Enel Global Infrastructure and Networks, joins Joana Freitas, Ambassador of the Lights on Women initiative of the FSR, to discuss how the energy transition is shaping the need and configuration of TSO/DSO coordination. In Viviana’s perspective, decentralized generation, electrification and electric vehicles are growing at a fast pace and, given this new context, “TSOs and DSOs have just not the need but the responsibility to cooperate in order to rethink the energy system”. In fact, several European grid operators have been participating in TSO/DSO coordination pilots, as CoordiNet and SmartNet. The Clean Energy Package also paves the way to a closer cooperation between TSOs and DSOs. One of the measures determined by this package is the creation of a DSO entity, which, in Viviana’s view, “will play an important role to implement this cooperation and identifying the needs of the future system”. Vivana also notes that regulation is one of the key enablers of TSO/DSO coordination – “[TSO/DSO coordination] cannot be fast enough without the supportive regulatory framework”. While the electricity system is evolving at a fast pace, driving TSOs and DSOs to cooperate more than in the past...we need to keep all the options open for the time being”. Quebec And Ontario Squeezing Smaller Provinces Out Of Equalization

Manitoba and the three Maritime provinces who rely on equalization payments as a source of revenue are getting a lot less than they used to. Equalization payments as a share of GDP have been declining significantly in all four provinces since 2009. In Manitoba, this means losses in the hundreds of millions of dollars. A decade ago, Quebec was the big winner in equalization, taking 37% of all such transfers, but Ontario was still a have-province in those days and they took nothing. Quebec’s share is continuing to increase significantly, and Ontario has been on the receiving end since 2009. This year, Quebec and Ontario together are receiving 67% of all equalization payments. The decrease in equalization payments to Manitoba and the Maritime provinces does not result from lower federal spending on transfers, which are at historically high levels. Canada’s two largest provinces have left less behind for the smaller provinces that rely on the program. It's a challenging time for these 'have not' provinces, and it's not about to change anytime soon. Each of them will have to address their own challenges through spending restraint and prudent fiscal management. I’m Roger Currie. Join us again next week for more thoughts on the Frontier.
