In the spirit of clearly communicating what you're signing up for, this podcast episode is nearly three hours long, and among other things it contains a discussion of a paper by author Mary Shaw titled Myths & Mythconceptions which takes as an organizing principle a collection of myths that are widely believed by programmers, largely unacknowledged, which shape our views on the nature of programming as an activity and the needs of programmers as people and the sort of work that we do as a sort of work, and where by acknowledging these myths the three of us (Mary Shaw primarily, and by extension Jimmy and I, those three people, that's it, no other people appear on this podcast) are able to more vividly grip the image of programming with our mind's eye (or somesuch) and conceive of a different formulation for programming, and in addition to these myths this paper also incudes a number of excellent lists that I take great pleasure in reading, beyond which I should also note that the paper does a job of explaining itself and that hopefully you'll find I've done a similar job, that's the spirit, please enjoy. Following the unexpected arrival of a ventriloquist dummy on his doorstep, and the sudden, violent death of his wife – two events that might be related – Jamie Ashen is arrested by Detective Lipton, a cop with a thing for electric razors. Lipton's also a by the books kind of guy who's convinced Jamie is responsible for his wife's death. But Jamie doesn't have time for games — he's determined to find out who or what killed his wife and tore her tongue out in the process. His search takes him back to his home town of Raven's Fair, where the superstitious residents suspect the spectral Mary Shaw, a long-dead ventriloquist, may be to blame. Seems Shaw was connected to the disappearance and ritual murder of families years back, then became the victim herself of a heinous crime. With Lipton on his tail, Jamie visits his aging father Edward, his young wife Ella, local mortician Henry and his demented wife Marion, who unspool a tale too fantastic to be true. And slowly, the truth about Raven's Fair reveals itself to Jamie's unsuspecting, and for now human, eyeballs. Beware the stare of Mary Shaw. She had no children, only dolls. And if you see her in your dreams... You BEST bet'not scream!!! Tf? Today on ScaryCrit, we're taking a trip down to dreary Raven's Fair to hang with the good sis Mary and her vociferous dolls and dish about Dead Silence (2007). A brainchild of the fathers of Saw (2005), Leigh Whannel and James Wan, we have a fun time analyzing how this film holds up in the possessed/haunted doll subgenre, toying with the idea of if the movie were from another character's perspective, defining the "curse" of Mary Shaw, and pondering how the Dead Silence we got wasn't originally the one James and Leigh had in mind. On this week episode I have my dad on for the second week in a row to help me get this years spooky season started. We watched The Nun 2 together and we discussed the whole Conjuring franchise and how well this movie fits in it. Though most of the movie had us on the edge of our seats, we break down some of the flaws in this movie as well. And for this weeks throwback movie, we watched Dead Silence for the first time together. A very creepy movie, but not a satisfying plot. The Nun 2. Directed by Michael Chaves. 1956 - France. A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun.Dead Silence (2007). Today's headlines: Congress is still undecided as of now, with 221 seats for Republicans, and 214 for Democrats with control leaning likely towards republicans, but not all races have been called. Right now the Senate is tied 48-48, with races in Arizona and Nevada still not fully counted. In Arizona, we likely won't know the results of the governor and Senate races until tomorrow at the earliest. So far, only 80 of the 300 election deniers nationwide were elected into office. Finally, Tina Kotek has been elected governor of Oregon, making her the second out lesbian elected to lead any state, and Louisville judge Mary Shaw has lost her race in Missouri. Movie Meltdown - Episode 585 (For our Patreon "Horror Club") This session of the horror club we discuss Dead Silence, the 2007 film directed by James Wan. And while we reminisce about special times with Donnie Wahlberg, we also cover… Tourist Trap, The House, Stan Against Evil, Ryan Kwanten, Frankenstein, digging up bodies, an anthropomorphic mouse, he's very proud of those paintings, ghosts with weaknesses, ambient noise ceases, What We Do in the Shadows, soup, trying to rhyme those two words… you gotta save those for the boys overseas, Judith Anna Roberts, House of Wax, out of his jurisdiction, red herring or legit pay-off, sew a bunch of tongues together, Only Murders in the Building, Amber Valletta, girl on a theremin, setting up a lore, I love a good mannequin movie, CG faces, honoring the final wishes of the person you murdered and a dehydrated husk of a person. Spoiler Alert: Full spoilers for "Dead Silence", so go watch the movie before you listen. “There's something that's so like - endearing to me about this movie…”
This episode the Wizards talk about murder, famine and politics. How do you "go fuck yourself"? Why make the EV Dodge Charger make a fake exhaust sound, it's just an adult Power-wheel? is a lobster just a big roach? Anne Heche rising from the stretcher after her accident, and so, so much more.

The Wizards interview this weeks Special Guest Host Jacory Author, councilman to the 4th district of the City of Louisville, and gets his opinion on several subjects including LMPD's delayed response to the Breonna Taylor murder and how the public is okay with Louisville's Judge Mary Shaw continuing to run for office despite signing the warrant that was executed on Breonna Taylors residence. Councilman Author and the Wizards put the city under the microscope this week and don't hold back as they explain why we are hitting a wall and not progressing in "draining the swamp".
Tony Crespo of Flopbusters joins to discuss one of the most maligned films from horror duo superstars James Wan and Leigh Whannell. Is Dead Silence actually that bad, or has it been unfairly dismissed as a sophomore slump? Say the wrong answer, and Mary Shaw will steal your tongue.
Hello and welcome back to another episode of B Bin Horror! On this week's episode we talk about the 2007 Horror/Thriller, Dead Silence. Dead Silence was written by Leigh Whannell and directed by James Wan and stars Ryan Kwanten, Amber Valleta, Donnie Wahlberg and Bob Gunton. On this episode we talk about ways to survive Mary Shaw which includes using a gag ball (it would work, trust us), we talk about the alternate ending and which ending we prefer, and what we would do if a doll showed up on our doorstep. This week Fred prepared the survival game for Brandon, Doug and Dylan to play and try to overcome Mary Shaw's shenanigans and her favorite ventriloquist Jeff Dunham. If you like what you hear please follow us on Instagram and Facebook @bbinhorror. You can also send us emails at bbinhorror@gmail.com.

Continuing his long tradition of championing pint-sized terror on the show, Matt dives us tongue-first into James Wan's haunted ventriloquist dummy romp DEAD SILENCE (2007). Boasting a $20mil budget and only one blue color gel, it's actually not nearly as bad as we might've remembered it being... but that might have more to do with our brains being warped by 7 years of doing this podcast and less with Dead Silence being good. You decide, but be careful talking smack about Mary Shaw or you may never talk again! If you like the show, be sure to Rate, Review & Subscribe!
