Guests: Linda De Courcy Independent Ireland Candidate For Clondalkin LEA William Carton Independent Ireland Candidate For Athy LEA Ryan McKeown Independent Ireland Candidate For Clane LEACollette Byrne Independent Ireland Candidate For Portlaoise LEA Description: In this episode, Niall is getting the reaction of listeners to Tent City Deja Vu. Approximately 100 tents occupied by asylum seekers were removed from Dublin's Grand Canal this morning for the third time this month. The multi-agency operation aimed to move occupants to alternative accommodation, with buses ready to transport them. The government stated that new beds have become available in Citywest and other locations across the country, easing the pressure on Dublin. This recurring issue has sparked debate about the government's priorities. While the government claims that these moves are necessary to provide better facilities and reduce pressure on the city, critics argue that resources are being diverted from pressing issues affecting Irish citizens.Niall opens up the lines to callers. Some callers are fed up with the government prioritizing migrants over its own citizens. They argue that many Irish people are homeless and struggling, yet the government continues to allocate resources to asylum seekers. They believe the government needs to focus on the needs of the Irish people first, improving healthcare, making housing affordable, and addressing the struggles of taxpayers before spending on migrant camps.Niall wraps up by highlighting the debate and differing opinions on how the government is handling the asylum seeker situation in relation to the needs of Irish citizens.

College students protest and the United Methodist Church splits We're recording live this week from CT's quarterly staff meeting with special guests CT president and CEO Tim Dalrymple and news editor Daniel Silliman. Host Mike Cosper and producer Clarissa Moll discuss the escalating student protests on U.S. college campuses -- why students are gathering and how free speech rights shape university discourse. Then, the United Methodist Church met this week to remove all LGBTQ limitations from its books. Should conservative churches within the denomination stay, or should they go? Today's Guests: Timothy Dalrymple is a former national champion gymnast who turned to academia following an accident in college where he broke his neck. Dalrymple was a key player in the launch of patheos.com, an online marketing place of religious ideas, and he pioneered many of the techniques that led Patheos to become the world's largest platform for multi-religious conversations. In 2013, he founded Polymath, a creative agency that services businesses and nonprofits serving the world. Dalrymple currently serves as Christianity Today's President and CEO, the flagship evangelical media ministry founded in 1956 by Billy Graham. Daniel Silliman is a journalist and a historian. A rowdy mob at the Randall's Island migrant shelter was busted early Monday after a brawl that injured four security guards and left one migrant suffering a stab wound, police and sources said. Five men, believed to be migrants housed at the massive tent city, were charged with assault after jumping the 24-year-old victim while he was eating on his bunk around 1:45 a.m., cops said. The guards tried to step in but they were also attacked, sources said. The accused thugs — Howard Ochoa Olivero, 27, Jose Manuel Maza, 29, Jose Squera, 20, Xavier Pacheco, 32, and Carlos Maiz Betancourt, 23 — were all charged with third-degree assault. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/darien-dunstan3/message

In this episode, Niall delves into a controversial topic surrounding the treatment of asylum seekers in Dublin. The recent clearing of a makeshift migrant camp near Mount Street ahead of St. Patrick's Day has sparked outrage and debate. The government's decision to relocate around 200 asylum seekers to another camp near the Dublin mountains has been criticized as a cynical ploy. Activists argue that moving these men from one tent city to another, without adequate facilities, is dehumanizing and reflects poorly on society's treatment of vulnerable individuals. As Niall opens up the lines to callers, opinions are divided. Some callers express deep sympathy for the men, emphasizing their vulnerable situation and the need for humane treatment. They highlight the challenges faced by asylum seekers, including the hardships they endured in their home countries and the difficulties they encounter in seeking safety and security. These callers advocate for providing dignified accommodations and support services to asylum seekers, arguing that it is a moral imperative for society to show compassion and empathy towards those in need.On the other hand, some callers express less sympathy for the men. They acknowledge the challenges faced by asylum seekers but question their actions and decisions. These callers suggest that the asylum seekers should have followed proper procedures and accepted the temporary accommodations offered to them. They raise concerns about the strain on resources and the need to prioritize assistance for homeless individuals within Ireland. These callers advocate for accountability and cooperation from asylum seekers in order to find mutually beneficial solutions to their situations. The discussion prompts reflection on the broader issues surrounding asylum seekers' rights and the responsibility of society to provide dignified and compassionate support to those in need. The debate over the treatment of asylum seekers underscores the complexity of immigration policy and the challenges of providing adequate support to vulnerable populations. While opinions may differ, it's crucial to prioritize compassion, empathy, and respect for human dignity in these discussions. Regardless of differing viewpoints, it's essential to work towards solutions that uphold the rights and well-being of asylum seekers and foster a more inclusive and supportive society.

At this point in our story, Sunburned Hand of the Man morphs into a many-headed hydra with varying manifestations in the loft and on each tour. To get through this vague period of 5-8 years, we focus on the band's tour stories. We learn how a years-long period of heavy touring was kicked off with a family-band excursion to play a wedding in Alaska. After a conjunction of high-profile press coverage, Sunburned suddenly found themselves in high demand on the international festival circuit. So we focus on stories of their extended tour of Europe and the UK in 2003. Our story gets blurry after that first European tour, so we step back and focus first on stories of Sunburned's many North American tours – including the 2004 cross-country trek out to Arthur Fest and back where they picked up the “no way out” rallying cry. Finally, we hear a conglomeration of stories from the band's later European tours. So many links to share for this episode! We'll start with the New Weird America cover story on The Wire. Here's the Pitchfork reviews for the Trickle Down Theory of Lord Knows What and some Arthur Magazine pieces about Sunburned. This is a digital brochure and schedule of the 2003 Kill Your Timid Notion Festival. Check out this wild poster and these photos from Arthurfest. This was an announcement for a No Way Out tour posted by Arthur Magazine (which is different from the tour out to Arthurfest, where the band picked up the No Way Out motto). Grace welcomes Boston City Councilor at-large Erin Murphy to the show to discuss the "zombie apocalypse" situation at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and Melina Cass Boulevard. Mayor Wu is making moves to end the dangerous tent city, but in a state where everyone has a "right to shelter," will we be responsible for putting these dealers and users up?
In this edition of The Wright Report with former CIA Operations Officer Bryan Dean Wright, we delve deep into pressing domestic and international matters.
