Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. The 2024 Super Bowl was the most-watched program in American television history with 123.4 million viewers. The House of Mouse let loose several bits of exciting news after their quarterly earnings call on February 7. Animation fans were surprised with the release of a teaser trailer for Moana 2, which will be in theaters in November. Bob Iger also announced that Zootopia 2 will release in 2025 and Frozen 3 and Toy Story 5 will drop in 2026. Fans of the recent Percy Jackson and the Olympians series officially received the news that season two has been greenlit. Disney is investing $1.5 billion Epic Games - known best for Fortnite. CEO Bob Iger explained that the goal is to create a gaming universe that features beloved characters from Disney's hottest franchises such as Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar, and more. And last - but never least - it was announced that Taylor Swift's concert film The Eras Tour will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning March 15.Last week we discussed the seemingly-rushed new Jurassic World movie, which had announced that its director would be David Leitch. But talks between Universal and Leith fell through and the director is no longer attached to the project. In a surprising move, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences governing board announced a new category that will first be given away in 2026 - Best Achievement in Casting. It's been nearly 25 years since a new category was announced - the last one being Best Animated Feature Film in 2001. A joint statement from the Academy Casting Director Branch governors expressed appreciation for the acknowledgment and recognition for casting directors. Official rules will be announced in April 2025 and films of that year will be the first ones considered for the award. Paramount released the first trailer for its limited series and Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off, Knuckles, starring Idris Elba in the lead voice acting role. The six episode show will debut on Paramount+ on April 26. This March, Marvel Comics will release a prelude comic for the X-Men ‘97 animated show. The first issue features a wraparound cover by Russell Dauterman. The limited series will be four issues long. Celine Song is reuniting with A24 for her second feature film following her Best Picture directorial debut Past Lives. The new film, titled Materialists, is described as a romantic comedy with Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans in early talks to star. Sony is shutting down its Funimation app and moving subscribers over to Crunchyroll, but the move does not include their already purchased content. Seven Star Wars comics will feature variant covers featuring some of the women of the galaxy far, far away for Women's History Month in March. HBO is developing an Aegon's Conquest Game of Thrones series, which will serve as a prequel to House of the Dragon. Mattson Tomlin, who wrote parts of Matt Reeves' The Batman and is co-writing the upcoming sequel, will write the series. Michael Chaves, who has directed previous installments in The Conjuring franchise, including 2021's The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and The Nun II is in negotiations to direct what is being eyed as the fourth and final outing in the franchise currently under the working titled The Conjuring 4. After being saved from a tax break death at Warner Bros., the John Cena and Lana Condor movie, Coyote Vs Acme is officially being shelved forever. Although Warner Brothers did attempt to shop the film to other studios including Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount, their asking price of between $75 and $80 million for the film was too high to attract a buyer. Wicked author Gregory Maguire will release a new prequel titled Elphie: A Wicked Childhood on October 1. Maguire has written eight Oz-inspired books.
BEST OF: St. Lucy is one of the earliest Christian Saints, known as a virgin and martyr to history, and a female version of Prince Siddhartha when she gave up her wealth and influences to become nun-like. Her immovable convictions have been portrayed as a divine influence which protected her against Roman persecution, from her punishment in a brothel to being burned alive. As a result of her divinely protected body, the Romans had her stabbed in the neck, severing the head symbolically, and her eyes plucked out, severing the connection between the eyes and the soul. She thus became the patron of virgins, or those who are purified, and the blind. In the new Nun II movie, the demon is hunting down Lucy's descendants and searching for her eyes, which have become a religious relic, because they have the power to turn whomever possesses them into an angelic being. This is a psychological process, too, occurring in the body with our passions and emotions. When they get too close to the head temple and gateway of the soul, our eyes, they can use the body and brain to cause havoc. Interestingly, the Nun II is the number one grossing movie. Parallel to this movie is what was the top music video in the country, but as of now sits at number three, and that is Doja Cat's ‘Paint The Town Red'. In the song she removes her eye to visit the underworld and perform an abortion as a sacrament to the Devil. She also encourages feral behaviors in general. The removal of an eye to reach the underworld is directly out of ancient Egypt, a theme Katy Perry also used in ‘Dark Horse'. It is further found in Japanese and Scandinavian mythology with Izanagi and Odin respectively. Some people choose to pluck out their own eyes to these facts, and in not looking become ignorant. However, they also try to force other people, like Birdbox, to look away from the divine and see the demonic. Horror would be nothing without Catholic horror. From crucifixes to demon possession, from Dante's "Inferno" to the "The Nun II", Catholic imagery and imagination have shaped horror for centuries. But the intersection of Catholicism and horror has a dark real-world connection, as well. The Hero Priest trope at once masks and alludes to a hidden legacy of clerical sexual abuse, and the threat of hell lingers in the imagination of so many believers. This week, we talk to our friend Matthew J. Cressler, a scholar of Catholicism and longtime fan of William Friedkin's 1973 classic "The Exorcist", about Catholicism's influence on horror as well as horror's influence on the Catholic imagination. You can find more about Matt and his work here: https://matthewjcressler.com/

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your one-stop-shop for Information about all your favorite fictional universes. As of Sunday, the Writers Guild reached a tentative agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers to end its strike after nearly five months. The parties finalized the framework of the deal Sunday when they were able to untangle their stalemate over AI and writing room staffing levels. This is welcome news to everyone involved no doubt and hopefully means the actor's strike will soon follow suit. The first trailer for the upcoming three-episode Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Special has premiered to excited Whovians everywhere. The trailer features David Tennant portraying a reincarnation of his Tenth Doctor who reunites with his companion Donna Noble played by Catherine Tate, as well as Jemma Redgrave reprising her role as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, and Neil Patrick Harris will play The Toymaker, an all-powerful villain who first appeared in 1966. We also get a short glimpse of the new Fifteenth Doctor, played by Rwandan-Scottish actor Ncuti Gatwa. The special series begins streaming in November. For reasons unknown to many, a reboot of the U.S. version of The Office is rumored to be in the works. Original creator Greg Daniels is reportedly returning and has previously hinted at bringing the show back, but with different actors in the roles. Daniels has also been quoted as saying he envisioned it as a quote “extension of the universe…but I don't know if that would be something people want…” end quote. In a recent podcast interview, screenwriter David S. Goyer let loose some interesting info about the Christopher Nolan Batman films, stating that he vouched for Jake Gyllenhaal to portray the titular character of Bruce Wayne/Batman. Goyer continued to tantalize saying that he is pretty sure there is test footage laying around somewhere of Gyllenhaal's audition in a Batman costume. We also could have had a Leonardo DiCaprio version of The Riddler, if an unnamed Warner Bros. executive had gotten their way. The Dark Knight trilogy is often lauded as some of the best feature films of the Caped Crusader. Amazon has announced that its Prime Video service will feature limited ads beginning in early 2024 and the ad tier will be the default option for Prime Video. The company says the price of a regular Prime subscription won't rise next year, but users who want to continue watching Prime Video without commercials will have to pay an extra $2.99 per month. Paramount has set a release date for its untitled sequel to the surprise horror hit Smile. It will be released Oct. 18, 2024. Paramount also set a date for the musical adaptation of Mean Girls, which will debut on Jan. 12, 2024. It previously was intended for Paramount+ but has been upgraded to a theatrical release. Lionsgate has released a new trailer for The Hunger Games prequel film Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The film is set to hit theaters on November 17th, despite the ongoing actor's strike. During what is expected to be the worst weekend for theatrical ticket sales so far this year, Expendables 4 landed only $8.3 million in its opening weekend, representing the worst opening for a film in the franchise. It was narrowly bested by The Nun II, which continues its reign at the September box office. Gareth Edwards' hotly anticipated sci-fi epic The Creator has finally been unveiled for its first audience, with a press screening taking place last week. Judging by the early social media reaction from journalists and critics, there is almost universal praise for the way The Creator looks and the stunning work of cinematographers Oren Soffer and Greig Fraser. Many of those who saw the film last Monday described it as one of 2023's best films. The movie releases this week on September 29th.

In this episode, Mike talks about Disney's 100-disc limited edition set that will be available next month. The $1,500 dollar box set features 100 animated films from Disney and shares which of the 100 films he would keep and which should be locked away forever. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about the new horror film The Nun II. His thoughts on if it's better than the original, where it ranks in the Conjuring universe, and how horror is quietly crushing at the box office. In the Trailer Park, Mike takes a look at the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer and gives his thoughts on the return of Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, the aquatic superhero and King of Atlantis.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In a surprise, intimate ceremony in Massachusetts, Chris Evans and partner Alba Baptista have officially tied the knot. Surrounded by his Marvel, NDA-signing co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner, Evans collectively shattered hopes and dreams for everyone who has been in love with the star-spangled actor for years. Amidst the current strikes, New York Comic Con will feature directors and producers hawking their productions including Jason Blum of Blumhouse and Matthew Vaughn. Fans of horror will enjoy the “Designing Worlds of Horror in Scream, Insidious and More” panel, featuring costume designers behind Scream VI, Insidious: The Red Door, The Walking Dead and Twisted Metal, alongside the production designer for Mike Flanagan's The Fall of the House of Usher. Disney+ will premiere glimpses of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Goosebumps, and Monsters at Work. Attendees will have the chance to get autographs from stars like David Tennant, Ewan McGregor, Susan Sarandon, and more as WGA and SAG-AFTRA members can attend as individuals, but are prohibited from appearing to promote past, present or future work tied to their contracts. The Nun II came in ahead of expectations this weekend, pulling in an $85.3 million global box office opening, $32.6 million of which came from its domestic outing. Oppenheimer and Barbie also will hit major milestones this week at the international box office as Oppenheimer closes in on crossing $900 million worldwide and Barbie will pull over the $1.4 billion mark. Denzel Washington's The Equalizer 3 and Blue Beetle also both crossed the $100 million dollar worldwide box office mark over the weekend. Fall Movie Preview Lionsgate will officially handle distribution for the upcoming Bill Skarsgard led reboot of The Crow. The film is expected to be released sometime in 2024. Eli Roth's upcoming slasher film Thanksgiving has dropped its first trailer. The film which stars Patrick Dempsey and Addison Rae is based on a fake trailer that Roth created for Quentin Tarantino's 2007 film Grindhouse. The film will hit theaters on November 17th. AppleTV+ has released its first trailer for its upcoming Monsterverse series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The series stars Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell, playing the same character. The series will take place both in the 1950s and in the period of time following 2014's Godzilla and will revolve around the protagonists discovering secrets of the Monarch organization at the center of the franchise. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has dropped its first TV spot teaser trailer with a full trailer to be released this Thursday. The film is currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 20th. Haunted Mansion will begin streaming on Disney+ on October 4th. Tim Burton recently told The Independent that the upcoming Beetlejuice 2 is 99% done and only needs less than 2 days of filming to complete. The film production was shut down due to the Hollywood strikes. In the first five days since its Disney+ release on Sept. 6, The Little Mermaid — the live-action reimagining of the 1989 Oscar-winning animated classic — has collected 16 million views worldwide, according to the platform. Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One releases digitally on October 10 and is available on physical media on October 31. A Murder, She Wrote film adaptation is in the works at Universal Studios. The film will be written by Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo with Amy Pascal attached to produce. A tv series reboot was planned in 2013, but was ultimately scrapped. Netflix debuted an official trailer for Mike Flanagan's The Fall of the House of Usher series, based on the Edgar Allan Poe work of the same name.

We're heading into fall with the help of some of our favorite critics here at Breakfast All Day. William Bibbiani shares his horror insights on a review on "The Nun II," the latest installment in The Conjuring Universe. Alonso's husband, Dave White, steps in to talk about "My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3," which inspires one of our biggest disagreements ever. Plus: Alonso is back from the Venice Film Festival with a recap in our news segment of several of the movies he saw, including "Poor Things," "Priscilla," "Maestro" and "Ferrari." For our latest "Was It Great or Were 8?" review, we revisit the 1976 dystopian thriller "Logan's Run." And over at our Patreon, we catch up on the past couple weeks of "Ahsoka" and "Only Murders in the Building." Thanks so much for hanging out with all of us!
Which sequel is worth heading to the theaters for? Our movie critic, Grae Drake has the answer.
I'm not asking for a lot with horror movies, just a little carnage and a few years off my life. Scare me and I can forgive everything else. The Conjuring Universe has yet to let me know, and while The Nun II isn't perfect, it scared the MESS out of me.
