Dr. Matthew Montgomery is the superintendent of Revere Local School District in Bath, Ohio, where he has overseen major building projects, spearheaded a district-wide 1:1 technology initiative, and resolved crisis situations as they arose. Dr. Montgomery earned his Ph.D. while juggling a myriad of competing priorities, including a family with four children and an up-and-coming career. His dissertation project helped ignite a passion for learning more about the impact of leadership vision in the growth and transformation of our schools. Dr. Montgomery continues to pursue this passion through his frequently updated blog. He is also working on a book which he plans to publish soon. In this episode… Adult doctoral students share a history of past success. In this episode of An Unconventional Life, Dr. Russell Strickland and his guest, Dr. Matthew Montgomery, discuss their shared affinity for science, the difficulties associated with completing a dissertation as an unconventional doctoral student, and several interesting metaphors related to their respective journeys. Dr. Montgomery underscores the importance of your dissertation chair and of steadying yourself in the face of good news or bad news from this most critical dissertation committee member. We talk with Dr. Matthew Montgomery, Superintendent at Revere Local Schools, in Richfield, Ohio. They are fully opened up, unlike his counterpart up in northeast Ohio, Dr. Lloyd, who went fully remote. Here is a link to that episode. He gives us a little perspective of what superintendents are going through, how they're handling being fully open, where their preparations are for being online if they need to go online, and the general challenges that they're now facing in this era of COVID-19. School districts are obviously facing tremendous pressure. School administrators have been under tremendous pressure since March with very little leadership at the gubernatorial and national level, as well as giving them kind of the support that they need. This hits the schools particularly hard. And this has put tremendous pressure on our school administrators. So we agree with Dr. Montgomery's suggestion that a little kindness does goes a long way when there is any discussion between parents and stakeholders, and school districts, administrators and teachers. We spoke with Dr. Montgomery in an earlier episode about about how to manage a school construction project. The Queenz Of Media are thrilled to welcome Film Maker Rob Williams the CEO of Guest House Films to their show on Monday June 29th at 12:30a.m.EST! Rob Williams is an award-winning screenwriter and filmmaker, and co-owner of Guest House Films. With an impressive four movies under his belt;Long-Term Relationship, Back Soon, 3-Day Weekend and Make the Yuletide Gay. Rob graduated from Texas Christian University with a BBA degree in Finance, and received an MBA in Marketing from the University of Texas. He then moved to Los Angeles, where he worked in public relations. Frustrated with the lack of creativity in the PR field, Rob began studying screenwriting at the Twin Bridges Screenwriting Salon, where he developed primarily “mainstream” scripts such as thrillers and horrors. But the script he received the greatest feedback on was the gay-themed romantic comedy, Long- Term Relationship. With the support of his long-time partner Rodney Johnson, Rob approached good friend and acclaimed actor Matthew Montgomery with the script. Matthew's immediate response was, “You need to make this film, and I need to star in it!” This quickly led to the creation of Guest House Films. The company started production on Long-Term Relationship in January 2006, and has made four films in less than three years, with Rob serving as writer, director and producer of all films. The movies have been screened at film festivals around the world, winning audience, jury and acting awards, and securing distribution deals in North America and foreign territories. Rob was named to Instinct Magazine's “Leading Men of 2008” for his many contributions to gay cinema.
