It's not just about being a mother or a woman. It's about leveraging the wisdom and lessons learned from your mom to excel in the workplace, regardless of gender. - Valerie Cockerell Valerie Cockerell is no stranger to a challenge. Navigating her way through a myriad of roles, including as a leader at Disney, she found herself juggling the responsibilities of being a mother and a leader in the workplace simultaneously. As she navigated the world of parenting and leadership by learning on the fly she started noticing similarities between the two. Realizing the potential of her unique perspective connecting leadership and motherhood, Valerie decided to share it with the world in a book. It didn't take long for her to recognize that writing a book required a similar level of discipline and structure as leading a team or raising a child. The result is an inspiring and relatable guide to leadership that challenges traditional perspectives and champions the valuable lessons learned from motherhood. In her new book, "Manage Like a Mother," Valerie shares a unique look at the intersection between motherhood and leadership. She emphasizes the importance of consistency, credibility, and providing support and guidance to others in both roles. They want to educate, keep their children safe, and help them become the best they can be, which are all things a leader should do for their team. There are three parts to the book: laying the foundation for success, modus operandi, and thriving. These parts encompass the essential aspects of parenting and managing, focusing on character matters, daily responsibilities, and skills like time management and crisis management. The writing process has also opened the door to future projects, including a sequel to her book and a Manage Like a Mother project, where she aims to gather stories and quotes from mothers all over the world. Ultimately, she looks to continue the conversation about leadership and motherhood. Men have a responsibility to fulfill their role in the home, as designated by God. Equality of worth, not equal roles. God looks at the soul and the heart of humans and values each human equally. "Man looks at the outwards appearance, but God looks on the heart." A man's role in the house is to be the authority in a loving and equal relationship where the husband and wife work TOGETHER to run their household in a Godly way. Don't just dismiss my words until you hear the Bible verses explain it. I'm merely a messenger trying to put together verses for you to read. God is the authority, not me. Read his word and take it up with Him. Seriously, listen to this podcast with your spouse and a notepad. Jot down the Bible references I give and make sure that you both look at them at another time because this podcast will probably make one or both of you angry! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pastor-steven/support

Both candid and coming from a seat of compassion, the conversation explores the distinct role and responsibilities white men have in moving the needle forward on racial justice – given their location within a racialized society where they are beneficiaries given the fact that they are both white and male."

As we turn the page on 2021 and enter 2022, it's important to focus on what matters. Brett James, a Hall of Fame Songwriter, summed it up best when he described what he wanted his legacy be: love! “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:37-39Love matters. It matters to those around us, it matters to our innermost being, and most of all, it matters to God. If love is the finish line, what are the guideposts along the way? How do we get there? In the New Year we hope to encourage you that in the race for love:  Goals Matter Time Matters Relationships Matter Brett's story shows us all that God puts each of us in a time and a place for a purpose. Sometimes it may be a trial we're in, where leaning into Jesus can provide us the way out and an invaluable lesson. Often it is in the deepest valleys when we can draw nearest to the Lord. Sometimes it's in the everyday – handling your career to provide for your family, keeping up with your small children who require so much of your energy, or maybe it's an area of ministry in which God has called you to use your gifts. Brett speaks about his path to a songwriting career and how so many try for years without success. Sometimes He places the most unlikely person in your path to show you a different way. Brett tried to make it for seven years before moving on and going back to medical school. But as much as he felt prompted to do this for the greater good of providing for his family, God moved in an unexpected way when he continued to use his gift. He persevered in his passion of songwriting while attending classes. God showed him (in record time) that this passion and gift would be rewarded as He carved out his own path for Brett's life.  Look around – there is plenty of evidence that you don't have to work in ministry to fulfill God's plan for your life. We are all gifted in certain areas and each job, task, or career can be a mission-field. If we keep our identity deeply rooted in Christ, we can find meaning in our lives, which is far greater than needing to find meaning in our careers. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” – Colossians 3:23-24As we encouraged you to close 2021, this race is much easier to run with brothers, fellowship, and the accountability we can find when we don't go alone. Give the podcast a listen this month and follow up each Friday with a different focus on our Goals, Time, and Relationships to help you achieve what really matters this year and beyond.

Tony Porter from A Call to Men joins us to consider the question, "what's a man's role in ending sexual violence?" The #MeToo movement caused men across our society to wrestle with the realization that they could have done something harmful in their past. But “The Man Box”, or the way in which our society teaches young boys about what it means to be a man, taught all these men that what they were doing was right. Things get even more complicated when we consider how all of this intersects with racism and our society's lack of attention on men's mental health.
