He is the Founder of Functional Diagnostic Nutrition® (FDN) and the FDN Certification Course with over 4,000 graduates in 50 countries. Reed served as the Health Director at a Wellness Center in Southern California for over 10 years and with over 10,000 clients is known as one of the most experienced clinicians in his field. Reed serves on the Advisory Board of the American Natural Wellness Coaches Board and the American Association of Natural Wellness Coaches. He lives in the US and when not teaching the FDN Certification Course and helping his graduates build their private practices, he is usually found gardening or riding motorcycles. As an Environmental Paralegal and conservationist throughout the 90's Reed was “saving the planet” including the air, birds, water, trees and bees. In 1999 he turned his attention to, “What is the environment doing to PEOPLE, including ME?” That began a 25+ year career dedicated to helping people find out what's really wrong and how to fix it naturally. After earning a certificate in nutritional therapy, Reed noticed that most patients had already seen multiple doctors and therapists and still had many of their original complaints. Reed decided then he would be the last practitioner anyone needed to see and became an expert in functional lab assessments. The FDN Course is the result of more research and experience than most practitioners get in a lifetime.

Story at-a-glance Ginger has a long history of soothing digestive issues and modern research confirms its ability to reduce gut inflammation and support intestinal healing Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) increases the risk of serious health issues.IBDs like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fatigue, increasing the risk of malnutrition, intestinal damage, and colorectal cancer if left untreated A recent study found that furanodienone (FDN) in ginger activates the pregnane X receptor (PXR), which reduces gut inflammation and oxidative stress. It also strengthens the intestinal barrier to prevent harmful bacteria from entering the bloodstream Early use of ginger compounds leads to better outcomes, with reduced symptom severity and faster recovery in gut inflammation, especially when started at the first signs of digestive issues Another study found that gingerols and shogaols suppress immune overactivity, lowering IL-1β and TNF-α while blocking key inflammatory pathways that worsen chronic gut conditions

Today, I am joined by my friend and fellow Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner Alison Jordan, founder of Better Belly Therapies. Alison and I both graduated from FDN around five or six years ago, and she has since helped over 600 clients address the root causes of gut and health issues through her unique Gut Healer System. In our conversation, we dive into the intricacies of failed health protocols and explore the four major failure points that hinder clients from achieving their wellness goals: practitioner error, missing labs, bad labs, and poorly analyzed labs. Throughout the episode, Alison and I share our experiences with clients who have spent potentially thousands of dollars without success. We discuss the nuances of protocols, the importance of accurately diagnosing with the right tests, and how to ask the right questions when seeking help from practitioners. We also touch on why relying on just one or two tests isn't enough and the pitfalls of incorrectly analyzed lab data. Alison emphasizes the need for continuous learning to provide the best outcomes for clients and highlights some of her favorite diagnostic tests, including the DUTCH test, GI map, and organic acids test. For anyone out there who has tried multiple protocols and still isn't feeling better, this episode is packed with information and advice to help you navigate your health journey more effectively. Don't forget to check out the workshop Alison created called the Five Toxin Trap, which is a fantastic resource to further understand the factors impairing your recovery! Reed Davis, Double-Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner (HHP) and Certified Nutritional Therapist (CNT), is an expert in functional lab testing and holistic lifestyle medicine. As an Environmental Paralegal throughout the 90's Reed was “saving the planet” including the birds, bees, air, water and trees. In 1999 he turned his attention to, “What is the environment doing to PEOPLE, including ME?” That began a 20-year career dedicated to helping people find out what's really wrong and how to fix it naturally. After earning a certificate in nutritional therapy, Reed noticed that most patients had already seen multiple doctors and therapists and still had many of their original complaints. Reed decided then he would be the last practitioner anyone needed to see and became an expert in functional lab assessments. FDN is the result of more research and experience than most practitioners get in a lifetime. Reed Davis is one of the authors of four books including “The Needs Gap”: A Simple Guide to Manage Autoimmune Disease and Chronic Pain. This book fills the gap between standard medicine approaches and alternative strategies for resolving chronic conditions as well as some great recipes. 3 Top Tips - The Difference Between Functional Lab Testing vs Traditional Blood Work - The five foundational habits to get well and stay well (D.R.E.S.S) - How to use the H.I.D.D.E.N acronym to uncover health issues Social Media https://www.facebook.com/FunctionalDiagnosticNutrition/ https://twitter.com/FDNtraining https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC7xDnEKCe9gKeWZ2vbE3C8w https://www.linkedin.com/company/san-diego-natural-health-&-fitness-ctr/ https://www.instagram.com/fdntraining/ https://www.functionaldiagnosticnutrition.com/health-detective-podcast/
