A BBC News documentary The Sex Detectives: Keeping Kids Safe follows a groundbreaking project in Bristol which engages the help of street sex workers to protect children and young people at risk of sexual exploitation. Avon & Somerset Police have teamed up with children's charity Barnardo's and partnered with Bristol's street sex workers to gather intelligence about dangerous offenders and paedophiles. Nuala is joined by social worker Jo Ritchie, who is employed by Barnardo's, and sex work liaison officer Rose Brown.Model Leomie Anderson was just 14 when she was scouted, and has since gone on to work with fashion houses like Burberry, Giorgio Armani and Vivienne Westwood. She became the first Victoria Secret Angel from a Black British background. She's also the presenter of the BBC series Glow Up, the search for Britain's next top make up artist, which is back for it's 7th series. Leomie joins Nuala in the studio.More women than ever are deciding to not wait for friends, or family, to go on an adventure. The hashtag #Solotravel has over 5 million posts across TikTok and Instagram and in a recent Press Association interview Hostelworld's CEO, Gary Morrison, said that a surge in solo travellers - especially young female backpackers - is reshaping the travel industry. So, is 2025 the year of the solo female traveller? Journalist Chanté Joseph and Solo in Style creator, Deborah Ives, tell Nuala why women are deciding to go on holiday alone.Women in the North of England can expect to live fewer years in good health, are more likely to be unable to work due to long-term sickness and disability and are losing out in terms of wages, compared to other areas of England, according to new analysis. Health Equity North academics studied the latest available data to see whether there have been improvements in the inequalities faced by northern women since the publication of last year's damning Woman of the North report. Nuala discusses the findings with Professor Clare Bambra of Newcastle University and co-director of Health Equity North. We have an update from Tilly Cripwell about her campaign to protect the Molly Malone statue in Dublin.Presenter: Nuala McGovern Producer: Emma Pearce

Tony Gregory remains one of the most beloved TD's in the history of the city. Lately, talk of the Molly Malone monument has reminded me of the story of Gregory's activism on behalf of Dublin's largely female street traders, and his comments on the statue of Molly in the late 1980s. Is it time to move her to a more fitting location, where Jeanne Rynhart's monument might finally be respected?
Meanwhile... The New York Mets mascot got into crazy shape in the offseason, New Zealand is home to two of the oldest geckos in the world, and a statue of Molly Malone in Ireland needs protection from grabby tourists. In this episode, Niall asks: Is it really inappropriate to touch the statue of Molly Malone, or are Dublin City Council overreacting by hiring supervisors to stop tourists from doing it?The discussion follows a new move by the Council to station staff near the iconic statue after concerns were raised about tourists fondling the statue's bronze breasts for selfies. The so-called “Tart with the Cart” has long been a popular photo op on Grafton Street, but officials now argue the statue is being treated in a disrespectful and overly sexualised manner. Critics, however, say it's political correctness gone mad—and a waste of money. Some callers think absolutely, it's inappropriate. That statue represents a part of Irish history and culture, and constantly grabbing her chest is just plain disrespectful. Tourists wouldn't do that to a statue of a male figure, so why is it okay here? Hiring someone to protect it might seem silly, but maybe it's what's needed. One caller said it's embarrassing—we're known for our craic, but this crosses a line. It's not funny anymore when every tourist feels the need to grope a statue for a photo. It's degrading, and the council is right to step in.While other callers feel it's a bit of harmless fun. Tourists have been doing this for years and nobody was offended until recently. It's not done with any malice. Spending public money on supervisors for a statue is ridiculous. Others said we've far bigger problems in Dublin than people touching Molly Malone. Save the money and focus on housing or cleaning the streets instead of policing a bronze chest.Niall concludes by acknowledging how something seemingly light-hearted like a tourist attraction can spark a deeper conversation about respect, cultural preservation, and whether we've lost the run of ourselves with public money. Is this about dignity, or are we just being killjoys?
Is security around the Molly Malone statue necessary?
Dublin City Council Arts Officer Ray Yeats says that stewards will be hired to patrol the Molly Malone statue to try to discourage the practice of people 'groping' the statue.
Dublin City Council are to take a number of measures in the coming months to restore and protect the Molly Malone statue on Suffolk street. These include a pilot scheme which will see stewards deployed to protect the statue from tourists jumping up, touching and posing with the statue. For more on this, Kieran is joined by Ray Yeates, who is an Arts Officer a Dublin City Council.

Finland is officially joyful, the UK is redefining disability, and the bizarre love-hate triangle of Trump, Putin, and Zelenskyy—does anyone in that mess feel happy? In Ireland, more than 5,500 children are currently in foster care. This could be because of illness in the child's family, the death of a parent, neglect, abuse or violence in the home, or simply because the parent or family is not coping. Whatever the reason, foster carers are there to take care of children who cannot live with their own family, either on a short-term or long-term basis. In today's episode, we hear from two foster carers Sinead O'Donnell and Sharon Kelly. O'Donnell, who lives in Donegal, began fostering during Covid and has welcomed two young girls (sisters) into her home. Kelly, who lives in Kilkenny has fostered children for more than a decade and has provided foster care to two children since birth. They tell Róisín Ingle about why they wanted to open up their homes, the challenges involved and what advice they'd give to anyone considering becoming a foster carer. But first Irish Times Opinion editor Jennifer O'Connell is here to discuss some of the stories making headlines this week including American comedian Rosie O'Donnell's decision to move to Ireland, why girls are getting their periods earlier and why Dublin City Council might elevate the Molly Malone statue. Tilly Cripwell, a 22 year-old musician, who regularly performs beside the Molly Malone statue in Dublin, is on a mission to stop people from inappropriately touching the sculpture's breasts. In this episode, Cripwell tells Róisín Ingle how she's launched the ‘Leave Molly mAlone' campaign with the aim of stopping this “misogynistic” tradition and to protest against the mockery and objectification of the city's beloved statue.Later on, we'll also be hearing about another worthy campaign, called ‘Leave our Leave', run by the Irish Cancer Society.
