Attorney Edward A. Coleman, Esq. kicks the show off in a glum manner. He thanks the listeners for listening and recounts his abduction for sympathy. Ed bores producer Ken Lucas with the details of his illness. We cut to the Guess My Middle Name contest and announce Don Becker as the winner. Congrats Don! We will contact you shortly about your prizes. Ed reads some hate mail and then proclaims that he is so down that he didn’t schedule a guest. Ken offers to bring in a special friend to help cheer Ed up and then we hear another excerpt from Strunk & White. Ed answers another Ask An Attorney question by mega-fan David Shimomura and then we hear a word from our sponsor, Fun Laboratories. We return from our break with our special guest, Head of the Motivational and Emotional Empathy Department, John ‘Hambone’ McGuire. Hambone comes forth and whips Ed into shape with his fiery words. Ed is rejuvenated and Hambone graces us with his slogan, “Lead with your dick and follow your heart”. Ed tries to close the show and Hambone shares his 3 rules with us. Attorney Edward A. Coleman, Esq. kicks the show off with a slightly defeated attitude. He claims he’s a bit down in the dumps but is trying to fight his way out of it. He’s still reeling from the effects of his abduction. Podcast producer Ken Lucas disproves Ed’s claims. Ken also brings up Ed’s novel. Ed chats about the conspiracy theory against him and announces his list of perpetrators that includes Unwinnable’s favorite son, Ted Goldman. Suddenly EIC Stu Horvath shows up and warns Ed to drop his investigation into Unwinnable, Inc and then we take a break. After we hear a word from our sponsor, Snazzy Seconds, we join Ed and Ken as they head through sub-basement 3 to find Ed’s informant, Gruncle. After a series of extreme questions, Ed is not sure he's received the answers he is looking for. The show ends on a blank note. John Records Landecker is a bona fide radio star, soon to be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame. He’s perhaps best know for his trademark saying "Records Truly is My Middle Name” also the name of his book ─ now entering it’s second printing with an updated “Hall of Fame” edition. Starting in small market Michigan radio, he quickly ascended to major markets like Philly and Chicago, where for years he held court at the legendary “Big 89, WLS” (or as he put it, “the Enormous but not too gaudy 89”). There he was part of a lineup that included such radio luminaries as Larry Lujack, Tommy Edwards, Fred Winston, and Dick Biondi to name just a few. John is also famous for benchmark bits like “Boogie Check”, “Americana Panorama” and “Press My Conference”. Next came stints at other Chicago stations including WJMK, Magic 104.7 and his weekend show "Into the Seventies”. All this was followed by a return to WLS, both on AM and FM in the 2000’s, and he’s still going strong today with a show on his local hometown station WEFM! In this episode, we’re treated to some strong insights from a Hall of Famer who has been to the mountaintop – and is not afraid to speak out.
Edward A. Coleman, Esq. starts the show with a rundown of events that led to his supposed abduction. Producer Ken Lucas disagrees. Ed then explains every detail of his harrowing experience. We find out that Ed fell into the Gowanus Canal and is plagued with a toxic virus. Ian stops in to hang out and imbue Ed with positive vibes. Out of nowhere, Ed accuses Ted Goldman of being the mole. Ed replies to tweets regarding the “Guess My Middle Name?” and “Ask an Attorney” segments and then we hear a word from this week’s sponsor, DAT. After the break, we are joined by our guest, Human Resources Director, Janet Jort. After an aggressive back and forth between Janet and Ed, we end the show on an inappropriate note. Ken catches Ed off-guard and then we hear from our sponsor, Don’s Dog Walking Service. After the break, we are joined by legal applicant Thatch Skippling. We endure an uneasy interview that takes a left turn as Thatch speaks of his underworld experience. Thatch eventually forces Ed into some felonious activities and they disappear into the night. Ed kicks things off with more guesses from his “Guess My Middle Name” contest. Ed talks about his process of reading his contract and then talks about racketeering and Unwinnable, Inc’s legal woes. Ken is less than enthused to hear another Strunk and White recording. Luckily Ian Gonzales stops by with his tour group and we chat with him briefly. After the break, we interview Head of Submissions, Baxter Thwack-Martin. The show ends on a sour note as Ken mentions his issues with Standards and Practices. We start the show with Ken’s rumblings about Standards and Practices. Ed recaps the last show and questions why he hasn’t seen Trip “Flippington” Fitzsimmons. We talk about bathrooms, surveillance, legal issues and Ed’s contract before we interview Accounting Intern, Evelyn Mitchell. After a stressful interview, Ed promises to figure things out. This is a rewind of an interview with John Records Landecker we initially did in April, 2013. John will end his current stint at WLS-FM July 31 after his evening show. He refuses to say he's retiring. He'll fly to Los Angeles to spend time with his granddaughter and daughter, Amy Landecker of "Transparent." Then he may do a podcast, or, who knows. This is as good a time as any to remind our our early influences were not political or talkers. They were guys like John Records Landecker who had gigs we were never good enough for and in markets too big for us. The post from the original air date of our interview is below... If you grew up in the midwest in the 1970s and never heard of John, what rock were you hiding under? John Records Landecker was a fixture of nighttime rock and roll radio at WLS in Chicago and at stops in many markets thereafter. Yeah, one of my radio idols. Get over it. Yeah, he wrote a book, Records Truly is My Middle Name. Get over it. John still works in rock and roll radio, my first love. Get over it. He does nights at WLS-FM, the sister station of the ersatz AM legend and now talk giant. John was never dragged kicking and screaming into talk radio, and damn him for being so lucky!
