11 years of combination experience, 3rd generation Firefighter. Currently a probationary Firefighter on the Nine-Two engine with the FDNY. Michael is no stranger to the fire service as he's been surrounded by this profession his whole life. He got his start as a live-in with a little ole Fire Department called Christiana Fire Company in Delaware not sure if any of you have heard of it. The way Christiana operates plays a huge role in how Michael believes all Firefighters need to view the job. From there he knew he wanted to become a career Firefighter wherever he could get the chance but always had dreams of the big city. IG: bench_press_
College has become the dividing line in America, not just economically, but socially, too. Sam Pressler, a practitioner fellow at the University of Virginia and a research affiliate at the Harvard Human Flourishing Program, joins Oren to discuss the crisis this is fueling for young Americans who don't go to college as they navigate the transition to adulthood alone. The two talk through the history of college as a communal exercise and how it's devolved into the "great sorter" of class in America, as well as the resulting "structural forms of loneliness" for young people who don't pursue a four-year degree and the "extracurricular arms race" for kids trying to get in. And they unpack the embryonic remedies various states have rolled out to address the situation. For more, read Pressler's recent essay on The Commons, "From the ‘Great Connector' to the ‘Great Sorter'," and check out his full policy framework, "Connective Tissue," aimed at helping policymakers regenerate communities.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (08/07/2024): 3:05pm- On Tuesday night, Kamala Harris introduced her Vice Presidential pick—Minnesota Governor Tim Walz—while appearing at a campaign event at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA. Will Walz provide any sort of electoral advantage in the 2024 presidential race? Examining Walz's 2022 gubernatorial race, NBC election analyst Steve Kornacki concludes that Walz relied heavily on traditional Democrat voters—and didn't have much luck appealing to rural voters or moderates. Videos of Walz making outlandish, far-left statements are now circulating throughout social media. In one clip, Walz explains that socialism is synonymous with neighborliness. While speaking at the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party Convention in 2018, Walz told attendees that his pro-abortion stance was so radical that even former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) suggested he should moderate his position. In perhaps the most damaging audio, Walz can be heard claiming “there is no guarantee to free speech” if the government determines it is “misinformation" or “hate speech.” 3:15pm- Director of Public Prosecutions of England and Wales Stephen Parkinson explained that the United Kingdom will criminally punish citizens that repost messages that the government deems “hateful.” He also explained that he will appropriate “dedicated police officers” to monitor social media. With Democrat Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz having stated that the First Amendment shouldn't extend to speech the government considers “misinformation” or “hate speech,” could similar laws restricting speech be part of the Harris-Walz campaign's platform? 3:20pm- JD Vance Accuses Tim Walz of Lying About Military Service: Caitlin Doornbos and Josh Christenson of The New York Post write, “veterans have accused Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz of “embellishing” his military career and abandoning his National Guard battalion, highlighting that the now-vice presidential pick for the Democrats never served in combat and retired from service ahead of his unit's 2005 deployment to Iraq. In a letter posted to Facebook in 2018 as he first ran for governor, retired Command Sergeants Major Thomas Behrends and Paul Herr said Walz retired from his 24-year tenure in the National Guard after learning that his battalion would be deployed to Iraq, despite allegedly assuring his fellow troops he would join them.” You can read the full article here: https://nypost.com/2024/08/06/us-news/tim-walz-embellished-military-career-for-years-dropped-from-national-guard-unit-ahead-of-iraq-deployment/ 3:35pm- On his way to a campaign event in Wisconsin (a state where Kamala Harris is also actively campaigning), JD Vance walked up to Air Force 2 on the tarmac to speak with reports—noting that he was willing to answer their questions while Harris continues to avoid them. 3:40pm- While appearing on Fox News, Donald Trump called the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz ticket the “most radical” in U.S. history. 4:05pm- Scott Presler—Executive Director and Founder of Early Vote Action—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss his tireless fight to make sure Pennsylvania goes “red” in November. Pressler also reacts to Tim Walz becoming the Democrat Party's Vice Presidential nominee: “Kamala Harris just chose the most regressive, far left…candidate.” You can learn more about Early Vote Action here: https://earlyvoteaction.com/about/ 4:25pm- Cancel Culture Fail: Zach Jewell of The Daily Wire writes, “Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker signed a 4-year $26 million contract extension on Monday, making him the highest-paid kicker in the NFL on a per-year basis…The three-time Super Bowl-winning kicker sparked outrage after telling the graduating class that his success was all because ‘a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.' During the address, Butker also slammed Pride Month and President Joe Biden's pro-abortion policies.” You can read the full article here: https://www.dailywire.com/news/cancel-culture-fail-harrison-butker-signs-deal-making-him-highest-paid-kicker-in-nfl 4:40pm- Reacting to the Harris-Walz rally in Philadelphia, MSNBC host Joy Reid accused Donald Trump of being a “weird guy that's in Mar-a-Lago”—and claiming he wants to “turn the whole country into Mississippi.” 4:45pm- Could Rich ever forgive Ben Affleck for ruining Batman? 4:50pm- While appearing on Fox News, Donald Trump called out Kamala Harris for her past pledge to ban fracking. She now claims she isn't against fracking, but should anyone believe her? 5:00pm- JD Vance Accuses Tim Walz of Lying About Military Service: Caitlin Doornbos and Josh Christenson of The New York Post write, “veterans have accused Minnesota Gov. Johnson meticulously details Tim Walz's many failures while serving as governor of Minnesota. Johnson writes: “Tim Walz has such a bad record as Minnesota's governor that I was astonished when he landed on Vice President Kamala Harris's vice-presidential shortlist. As Minnesota's Center of the American Experiment has documented, under Mr. Walz Minnesota has become a high-crime state. Student achievement has tumbled as spending on schools has skyrocketed. Per capita gross domestic product has fallen below the national average. Minnesotans have joined residents of New York, California and Illinois in fleeing their home state.” You can read the full editorial here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/a-minnesotan-sizes-up-tim-walz-progressive-vice-president-crime-education-covid-e4e757ec?mod=opinion_lead_pos5 5:20pm- Will Tim Walz's presence on the ticket provide any sort of electoral advantage to Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential race? Examining Walz's 2022 gubernatorial race, NBC election analyst Steve Kornacki concludes that Walz relied heavily on traditional Democrat voters—and didn't have much luck appealing to rural voters or moderates. 5:45pm- NBC News Washington Correspondent Yamiche Aclindor reports that the Harris-Walz campaign is “not engaging on whether or not [Tim Walz] was falsifying his military record.” 5:50pm- While speaking with Robert Costa of CBS News, President Joe Biden said he is not confident there will be a peaceful transfer of power in January 2025 if Donald Trump wins the 2024 presidential election. 6:05pm- Dr. EJ Antoni—Research Fellow in The Heritage Foundation's Grover M. Hermann Center for the Federal Budget—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss the recent stock market slump. On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell over 1,000 points. Meanwhile, Japan's Nikkei plunged 12% —the largest drop since the Black Monday crash in 1987. Rich wonders if the global market is reacting to the wide-spread perception that Kamala Harris could win the 2024 presidential race? 6:25pm- According to reports, New Jersey officials are actively seeking to ban gas powered leaf blowers state-wide—with the ambition of enacting the new law before trees shed their leaves this fall. 6:35pm- A Philadelphia resident named Dave bought a billboard to help him find a date—emphasizing his ability to cook and his cat named Peach. According to Dave, he has already received thousands of direct messages on Instagram. 6:45pm- David Gelman—Criminal Defense Attorney & Surrogate for Donald Trump's Legal Team—joins The Rich Zeoli Show. Will Donald Trump have his sentencing trial in the New York City “hush money” case prior to election day on November 5th?

In this episode, hear Olly Belcher, Immediate Past President of the St Edmund Hall Association, in conversation wit Senator Larry Pressler who came up to the Hall in 1964 as a Rhodes Scholar where he was awarded his Diploma in Social and Public Administration. Senator Pressler loved his time at the Hall and after was sent to Vietnam in 1966 to fight in the war there. He then entered American politics and describes himself as a “RINO”, a Republican in name only. A pivotal moment in his career was when he turned down a bribe to let what he could “pretenders” come into the States. Spirit of the Hall podcast is produced by the St Edmund Hall Association, the voluntary alumni body independent which represents all Aularians. The views and opinions expressed in the podcast are those of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of the Association, St Edmund Hall or the University of Oxford.
On today's program, the Southern Baptist Convention settles over a sexual abuse lawsuit against influential leader Paul Pressler. Also, right before Christmas, the International House of Prayer officially cut ties with legendary founder Mike Bickle. We have details of Taylor University's $30 million grant from the Lilly Endowment to revitalize its local community. And we also unveil our list of the highest paid Christian ministry executives in the nation. We begin today with news that identify theft charges against Memphis pastor Steven Flockhart have been dropped. FINAL THOUGHTS: As I have said before, the end of the year is the most critical time of the year for Christian ministries, including MinistryWatch, when it comes to fundraising. We needed to raise about a quarter of our budget, about $117 thousand, in the months of November and December. I'm pleased to report today that we met that goal. We still have checks coming in the mail, but it looks like we will top out at around $140,000, which is significantly above our goal. If you were able to help us reach our goal, THANK YOU. I can't tell you how grateful I am. Four years ago, just weeks after I took over at MinistryWatch, we set a year-end goal of about $15,000. To see how we've grown over the past four years has been humbling and gratifying. I'm grateful to God, and to you who read, listen to, and financially support our work. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Kim Roberts, Bob Smietana, Jessica Eturralde, Daniel Ritchie, Steve Rabey, Kathryn Post, Rod Pitzer—and you, Warren. Until next time, may God bless you.

Is there an election where you live on Tuesday? If so, have you already voted or do you have a plan to vote? Tuesday is Election Day in several critical states. The results will significantly influence the future of several states and may project which party has momentum in the 2024 presidential campaign. But victory does not come easily. It takes hard work every day for months before Election Day. Part of the work is finding good candidates and raising money to deliver a strong message. But it's also vitally important to find and engage the voters. And that includes finding people who agree with you and registering them to vote.Early Vote Action Founder and Executive Director Scott Presler joins Sara to detail his diligent work, going door-to-door across this country to register voters and encourage them to support Republican candidates. He also explains why Republicans need to take advantage of early voting and not try to overcome the Democrats on Election Day alone. Finally, Pressler details why everyone needs to get out and vote in key races in Virginia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and several other states on Tuesday. Please visit our great sponsors:After Deathhttps://angel.com/carterSee a never-before-seen glimpse into what the next life could entail in After Death in theaters now. Have you ever watched your favorite musician perform, and wondered what goes through their head on stage?Like, what are they thinking about? Do they ever worry? What do they worry about? Is playing as easy as it looks? Or do they have bad days too? Does it ever get easier? How do they deal with criticism or bad reviews or even the critic in their own head? How similar is their experience in performance to ours?As you may have heard, renowned pianist Menahem Pressler passed away last weekend at the age of 99. A founding member of the Beaux Arts Trio, his performing career spanned over seven decades, and he taught generations of pianists who have gone on to hold teaching positions around the world and win prizes in all of the major competitions.I got to know Mr. Pressler a tiny bit during my time at Indiana University, as he was my wife's teacher, and kindly included me in studio parties and events. He was also curious and encouraging of my interests in psychology at a time when I had no idea how things would pan out, which I always appreciated. So in the summer of 2012, I reached out to see if I might ask him some questions about practicing and performing. He was very open about his mental experience on stage, his own doubts and fears at various points in his life, and what success and failure meant to him, as well as the more practical aspects of how he prepares for performance.I hope you find it as insightful and inspiring a conversation as I did.Note: This episode was recorded over the telephone/Skype, and I've done my best to clean up the audio, but if you would like a transcript, you can download one at:https://bulletproofmusician.com/menahem-pressler-on-following-your-heart/====Why do things sound better at home than they do on stage? If you've been confused (and frustrated) by the inconsistency of your performances, I put together a FREE 4-minute quiz called the Mental Skills Audit, which will help you pinpoint your mental strengths and weaknesses, and figure out what exactly to adjust and tweak in your preparation for more consistently optimal performances. You can take the Mental Skills Audit online at bulletproofmusician.com/msa. It's 100% free, takes only 4 minutes, and you'll get a downloadable PDF with a personalized breakdown of where you stand in six key mental skill areas, plus curated articles that will help you adjust and tweak your preparation for more consistently optimal performances. Take the quiz here: bulletproofmusician.com/msa
