    Mitch Unfiltered

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 2, 2026 112:38

RUNDOWN   Mitch and Hotshot Scott open Super Bowl week pleading for the rarest gift in sports: a wire-to-wire Seahawks blowout with zero anxiety attached. Instead, they confront history, betting lines, and the uncomfortable reality that Seahawks–Patriots games almost never come easy, dissecting spreads, totals, MVP odds, and prop bets surrounding Sam Darnold, Kenneth Walker, and the Seattle defense. ESPN insiders Mike Reiss and Brady Henderson join Mitch to trace the improbable parallel journeys of the Patriots and Seahawks from offseason uncertainty to Super Bowl 60. Reiss details how Mike Vrabel reshaped New England's culture around connection and accountability, while Henderson explains why Mike Macdonald's Seahawks are thriving on trust, depth, and collective buy-in rather than star power. The discussion zeroes in on Drake May's health, New England's offensive line vulnerabilities, Seattle's defensive front, and why the Seahawks are favored — while acknowledging that Patriots fans view this matchup as dangerous, not nostalgic. Mitch and Jason Puckett wrestle with the strangest part of Super Bowl 60 week: the complete absence of a believable reason the Seahawks should lose. They debate conspiracy theories, historical heartbreak, and why this matchup feels more like a gift than a grind, with comparisons to past Seattle sports collapses adding a layer of unease. Mitch reconnects with Dave Grosby to reflect on a defining week in Seattle sports history, Grosby's decades-long presence behind the microphone, and his upcoming honor from the American Parkinson Disease Association at the March 14 Magic of Hope Gala. Grosby shares a candid, deeply personal look at living with Parkinson's, the lack of a cure despite years of advocacy and fundraising led by figures like Michael J. Fox, and why continued research is critical. Peter King joins Mitch to unpack the shock of Bill Belichick not being a first-ballot Hall of Famer, offering rare insight into how Hall of Fame voting dynamics, strategic ballots, and a flawed system can produce surprising outcomes. The conversation shifts to Super Bowl 49 memories, lingering fallout inside the Seahawks locker room, and why the Seahawks–Patriots rematch echoes past championship blind spots where favorites felt inevitable — until they weren't. February 2, 2026 - Season 16, Episode 88 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing the latest news from the weekend into the morning concerning the Pittsburgh Steelers and the coaching staff that is continuing to be assembled under new HC Mike McCarthy. While only of the coaching staff hires have been made official by the team, we have more potential hirings that appear certain at this point. Because of that, Alex and I discuss the latest news concerning the potential hirings of Frank Cignetti Jr., C.J. Ah You, Danny Crossman, Mark Lovat, Grant Thorne, and Steve Scarnecchia based on the latest reports on each. After first thinking that the Steelers would be retaining DB coach Gerald Alexander, the news broke over the weekend that he is joining the Minnesota Vikings. We discuss that news in addition to AGM Andy Weidl now possibly being a Vikings GM candidate later this offseason. Scott Tolzien will officially interview for the offensive coordinator job on Monday, so Alex and I cover that morning news as well. With all of the NFL head coaching vacancies now seemingly filled, Alex and I give our opinions and rankings of each hire and landing spot. We give our thoughts on where McCarthy should rank in this year's hiring cycle. A new Hall of Fame class will be announced later this week, so Alex and I go over the latest voting controversies. We also discuss Peter King admission that he made a mistake several years ago when it came to him not voting for former Steelers S Troy Polamalu back in 2020. Only one member of the Steelers, Ben Skowronek, is participating in the annual Pro Bowl games this year so with that, Alex and I discuss the future of that event and if there are ways to make it more appetizing to watch or care about. During this show, Alex and I discuss if the hype train concerning Steelers QB Will Howard needs to slow down quite a bit at this point of the offseason. We go over several questions we think NFL commissioner Roger Goodell should be asked during his annual pre-Super Bowl press conference, which should take place on Monday. This 92-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the above recap and we make sure to read and answer a few emails we have received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Epstein Emails Raise Questions for Giants Ownership

The release of thousands of Jeffrey Epstein related emails puts uncomfortable attention on the NFL, including the naming of New York Giants minority owner Steve Tisch. The discussion breaks down why some mentions are meaningless, why others can seriously damage reputations, and why this one sits in a very different category. The guys question why national NFL media largely ignored the story, what responsibility Roger Goodell has when it comes to ownership optics, and whether the league actually has the will to act when no crime is alleged but the association itself is troubling. They also examine how this impacts the Giants brand, the Mara family, and why protecting the shield has mattered in past ownership cases. Ultimately, it becomes a larger conversation about power, accountability, and whether the NFL will confront uncomfortable realities or quietly move on once the headlines fade.

Chris “Big Mac” McMonigle finally gets his long-awaited meeting with Yankees manager Aaron Boone, and the guys predict absolute awkwardness and hero worship. That leads into a hilarious recap of a night at UBS Arena, including a fake speakeasy setup, Jon Ledecky playing it cool, and Big Mac getting ribbed on the big screen with an all-time mispronunciation of his name. The segment also dives into Tommy's Islanders rant being used as a full-blown hype video, how nervous that made him once the puck dropped, and why that moment meant more than any billing order on the scoreboard. From there, the conversation turns serious again with callers weighing in on the Steve Tisch situation, what Roger Goodell can actually do, and how many real questions the commissioner will face about it. It wraps with broader league talk, including revenue sharing, small-market realities, and why the NFL model works where baseball continues to struggle.

Ryan dives deep into the 2026 Senior Bowl results and what they mean for the Packers' draft strategy. With the American team defeating the National team 17-9 in brutal weather conditions, the defensive prospects absolutely dominated, reinforcing the narrative that this year's draft class favors the defensive side of the ball. The episode kicks off with significant NFL coaching news, including the Eagles potentially losing Vic Fangio and notably considering Jonathan Gannon as a replacement, Raheem Morris landing with the 49ers, Mike LaFleur becoming the Cardinals head coach, and Sean Duggan departing Green Bay for Miami's defensive coordinator position. The bulk of the show breaks down Senior Bowl standouts position by position. Defensive MVP Zion Young out of Missouri emerged as a legitimate target at consensus pick 50, while small-school edge rusher Nadami Tucker looked virtually unblockable. Ryan explores the intriguing shift back toward speed rushing in Green Bay's philosophy following the Colin Oliver selection. On offense, running back Jaden Ott rehabilitated his stock after missing nearly all of 2025, and the interior offensive line group continues generating excitement with multiple mid-round options. Ryan also addresses the underrated need at wide receiver given Dobbs and Wicks' contract situations, highlighting 6'4" Notre Dame receiver Malachi Fields as the prototype Green Bay might covet.
