Last month Apple TV+ launched a new show called Extrapolations, which portrays a variety of scenarios that could play out in the coming decades if we fail to address climate change. In this special two-part episode, you'll hear first from three people involved in making the show: Scott Z. Burns, the creator and executive producer of Extrapolations; Dorothy Fortenberry, another of the show's executive producers; and Matthew Rhys, one of the actors starring in the show. They'll talk about why they chose to tackle the topic of climate change through a scripted drama (1:37), and what they hope the show will inspire viewers to do (15:56). Then, in Part 2, you'll hear a discussion with Marcene Mitchell, Nikhil Advani, and Anita Van Breda from WWF's Climate team about some of the specific scenarios portrayed in the show, how likely those scenarios actually are, and what the world needs to do to prevent them from becoming a reality (22:12). Aired April 25th 2020. Join Bernice Butler, and expert guests, Nikhil Advani from the World Wildlife Fund, and Dr. Shawn Messonnier from Paws and Claws Animal Hospital to make the connection between the health of our pets and wildlife, the health of our planet and the health of our own bodies. Nikhil explains how natural ecosystem services, such as fresh water, pollination, soil health, etc., are essential for human health. Thus, it is imperative for us to protect nature and wildlife. Wildlife is an vital part of our natural ecosystems. For instance, without bee’s we wouldn’t have the same crops to provide nutrition to our bodies - a fact that is often overlooked, but absolutely dependent on our wildlife. There are very few animal species untouched by human impact, of the 5 major threats to wildlife human’s play a roll in all 5 of them. In regard to the built environment, there is a huge impact on wildlife around the world. In developing countries, cities are growing and connecting by roads and this drives wildlife out, interrupts their migration and their health as a whole. To care for a wildlife, we must reduce our consumption and be more responsible in our development. Dr. Shawn, speaks about the impacts of the built environment on our beloved pets. Everything from where we walk our pets, the beds they sleep on, the food we feed them, and the medicines and vaccinations we give them play a part in polluting their built environments and body and lead to serious health issues such as cancer, asthma and allergies. Moreover, the exact same toxins (mold, chemicals leached into soil and grass) that our pets are exposed to can be spread to our bodies and vise versa. Dr. Shawn offers safe and natural alternatives to care for your pets, such as, doing blood tests before vaccines, CBD oil, being involved and observant pet parents, herbal and homeopathic detoxification, and general supplements for pet health. Hrishi K with John Abraham, Mrunal Thakur & Nikhil Advani - Batla House by Hrishikesh Kannan
Nikhil Advani’s action thriller starring John Abraham — Batla House which is inspired by the real events from Operation Batla House is releasing on 15 August. It’s been 11 years since the encounter but many questions still remain unanswered. On 13 September, 2008 five bombs exploded in various parts of Delhi between 6-6:30 pm. Indian Mujahideen a terrorist organization took responsibility for it. And six days later a team of seven members of the Delhi police and led by Special Cell inspector Mohan Chand Sharma carried out the Batla House encounter or Operation Batla House. Two young boys from Azamgarh - Atif Ameen who was a student of Jamia and Mohammad Sajid a minor said to be members of Indian Mujahideen who were responsible for several bomb blasts were killed in the encounter. Inspector Sharma who was also injured in the incident later succumbed to his injuries in the Holy Family hospital. There's not one straight or standard version to how the Batla House encounter actually happened. Was it a fake encounter or a real one? What happened on 8 September 2008? In this episode of Where Were You When, students and professors of Jamia Millia Islamia University and residents of Batla House tell us their version of what they saw during the encounter and how it changed people’s perceptions. Tune in!
