“Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away.” (Psalm 90:10 NLT) Benjamin Franklin wrote, “In this world, nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.” Many people have devised strategies to avoid the second. No one has yet devised a strategy for avoiding the first—and no one ever will. The Bible is very clear about the fact that there will come a time for every person when life on earth will end. The author of Ecclesiastes wrote, “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest” (Ecclesiastes 3:1–2 NLT). The author of Hebrews wrote, “And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27 NKJV). Most people assume (or, at least, hope) that their appointed time will come after a long life here on earth. But the Bible makes no such promises. For some people, the time to die comes much sooner than expected. For others, it comes much later. Statisticians have estimated that two people die every second. One hundred and twenty people die every minute. Over seven thousand people die every hour. That’s why the words of the psalmist still resonate: “Seventy years are given to us! Some even live to eighty. But even the best years are filled with pain and trouble; soon they disappear, and we fly away” (Psalm 90:10 NLT). A historical legend tells us that Philip II of Macedon commanded his servant to stand in his presence every day and repeat something like, “Remember Philip, one day you will die.” The ruler wanted to be reminded of his mortality. When Steve Jobs gave a commencement speech at Stanford University, he said, “No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it.” Death is the great equalizer. It’s no respecter of persons. It comes to everyone. And that reality is what gives our Harvest Crusade its urgency and importance every year. People need to hear about the life beyond this one before this one ends. According to the Bible, after death there are two destinations. Every person decides now—not later, not after death—which destination it will be. Every person decides where they will spend eternity. Those two options are Heaven or Hell. The apostle Paul wrote, “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9 NLT). That’s how you decide to go to Heaven—to trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. To do anything else is to choose to go to Hell. This is our urgent message. Two people who were alive just one second ago won’t have a chance to hear it again. Reflection question: What causes you to feel a sense of urgency about sharing your faith? We want answers. We want timelines. We want clarity. We want to know how everything is going to work out. Yet God often calls us to walk by faith before He reveals the full picture. I believe we are in a season where the Lord is teaching His people to trust Him at a deeper level than ever before. Not trust in circumstances. Not trust in governments. Not trust in our own understanding. But trust in Him. The beautiful reality is that trust produces freedom. When you truly trust God, you stop carrying burdens you were never designed to carry. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.” Point 10: Trust Leads to Freedom John 8:31-32 (NKJV) “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Closing I believe one of the greatest invitations God is extending to His people right now is simple: Trust Me. Trust Me with your future. Trust Me with your family. Trust Me with your finances. Trust Me with your ministry. Trust Me with the unanswered questions. Trust Me with the things you cannot fix. The enemy wants you burdened, worried, anxious, and exhausted. But Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” There is incredible freedom available right now. Freedom from fear. Freedom from striving. Freedom from anxiety. Freedom from needing to control everything. The more you trust God, the more freedom you will experience. And perhaps the greatest lesson you'll ever learn is this: You don't have to carry what God has already promised to carry for you. Trust Him. He's faithful. He's good. And He's already working on your behalf.

Jesus said to her, "Give me some water to drink." 8 (For his disciples had gone off into the town to buy supplies.) 9 So the Samaritan woman said to him, "How can you—a Jew—ask me, a Samaritan woman, for water to drink?" (For Jews use nothing in common with Samaritans.) NKJV 5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink." 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. 9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. Reflection on Scripture: I love this story. It is the moment Jesus reveals himself at Jacob's well, literally Israel's well and yet it is not in the country of the Jews. This leads to interesting questions like who were the Samaritans and why do they show up in the New Testament? I think it is meaningful to ponder these questions for a moment. The Samaritans had a meaningful history. Through the whole Bible we see God's interaction with people that he has called His. God called the people of Jacob as his people. Jacob's name was changed to Israel and he had sons that formed large tribes. After Solomon the tribes split into two parts. The Southern Kingdom which was mostly the Tribes of Judah and Benjamin and the Northern kingdoms representing the other tribes. The northern tribes fell to the Assyrians and interbred with the pagan nations that surrounded. As a result they adopted different habits and theology and for this they did not get along with the Jews well.  So this is why the well of Jacob is among the Samaritans and additionally why Jesus would be near the lands of the Samaritans. They had been Israelites in the past. Jesus chose to reveal that he was the Messiah at this well. He did not choose Jerusalem. He did not go to the Pharisees. He chose those who were rejected, not those who thought themselves very important. We will talk more about the choice of this woman in the future but for now it is important to reflect on God's choice of the Samaritans.  Each of us are, in a form, outsiders to God. We are His children, yet we have acted in a way inconsistent with His perfection. He is able ot use the imperfect to do His work. In fact, imperfect people are all God has ever had to work with. You are enough for God to love and for Him to accept. His grace is sufficient for you.   Meditation of Prayer: Pray as directed by the Spirit. Dedicate these moments to the patient waiting, when you feel ready ask God for understanding you desire from Him. Meditation of God and His Glory / Hesychasm: I invite you to sit in silence feeling patient for your own faults and trials. Just as healthy roots provide strength, stability, and nourishment for a tree, God's love is the foundation that sustains and strengthens our lives. His love is wider, longer, deeper, and higher than we have yet experienced, and He is continually inviting us to discover more. The more deeply we are rooted in His love, the stronger we become, the more resilient we are in difficult seasons, and the more fruit we are able to produce for His glory.Ephesians 3:17-19 NKJV - that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what [is] the width and length and depth and height– to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.God never intended for us to simply know about His love. JUN. 19, 2026You can conquer your hang-ups."The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God." 2Co 10:4 NKJVToday's problem is not necessarily tomorrow's problem. Don't incarcerate yourself by assuming it is. Resist self-labeling: "I'm just a worrier.!" "Gossip is my weakness." "My dad was a drinker; I guess I'll carry on the tradition." Stop that! These words create alliances with the devil. They grant him access to your spirit. It's not God's will that you live a defeated, unhappy life.Turn a deaf ear to the old voices and make new choices. "The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good inheritance" (Ps 16:6 NKJV). Live out of your inheritance, not your circumstances. God has already promised you victory and provided you with weapons for the fight."Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds" (2Co 10:3-4 NKJV). How did Joshua conquer Jericho? By using God's strategy: "Take up the ark of the covenant and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the Lord" (Jos 6:6 NKJV). The ark of the covenant was the symbol of God's presence. Joshua placed it in the middle of the procession. Every activity orbited around God. JUN. 16, 2026Understanding the kingdom of God."The kingdom of God is within you." Lk 17:21 NKJVIn one sense, the kingdom of God is future, eternal, and heavenly. When Christ returns to set up His kingdom on earth, the prophecy will be fulfilled: "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!" (Rev 11:15 NKJV). What a glorious day that will be for all of God's redeemed children. But until then, Jesus said, "The kingdom of God is within you." That means as a born-again believer living in this world, you're called to demonstrate what it means to live under the rule of the King of kings and Lord of lords. Winston Churchill famously quipped: "Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried." All human governments are flawed and ultimately destined to fail because they are made up of flawed human beings. So as citizens of the kingdom of God, we are called to be "light" that illuminates darkness and dispels ignorance, and "salt" that flavors, cleanses, heals, and enriches the lives of those we come in contact with (see Mt 5:13-14). We are called to practice the principles of God's kingdom in the marketplace of life.Whether you work in education, transportation, medicine, politics, agriculture, IT, sales, manufacturing, etc., you are called to demonstrate the benefits of living under the rule of Christ and by the guidance of His indwelling Holy Spirit. "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord." When Christ returns, that promise will be totally fulfilled. JUN. 10, 2026God has given you seed to SOW!"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed." Mt 13:31 NIVJesus said: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants and becomes a tree, so that the birds come and perch in its branches" (vv. 31-32 NIV). A mustard seed is only two millimeters in diameter and comes in three primary varieties: yellow, black, and white. Within that seed is a remarkable nutritional profile, including vitamins A, B6, B12, C, E, and K. It's also a source of calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. Jesus pointed out that when it's planted, it can grow up and become one of the largest trees in the garden, blessing the birds of the air by providing them with a home. Paul wrote: "Now may He who supplies seed to the sower...multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness" (2Co 9:10 NKJV). Who does God give "seed" to? Sowers, not hoarders! What does God do with your seed when you sow it? He multiplies it! Ro 12:21 NKJVDuring the Korean War, a South Korean civilian was arrested by the communists and ordered to be shot. When the young communist leader learned that the prisoner in his charge was the head of an orphanage caring for young children, he decided to spare him. Instead, he ordered the execution of the man's son. The nineteen-year-old son was shot in the presence of his father. After the war, the young communist leader was captured by United Nations forces and condemned to death. But before the sentence could be carried out, the Christian whose son had been killed pleaded for the life of the killer. He argued that the communist had been young when he ordered the execution, and that he really didn't know what he was doing. "Give him to me," the man requested, "and I will train him." Unusual though it was, the United Nations forces granted his request, and the father took the murderer of his son into his own home and took care of him. The Bible says, "Love never fails" (1Co 13:8 NKJV). And by being exposed to the love of God, that young communist leader became a Christian and eventually went on to become the pastor of a church. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. JUN. 9, 2026Tell the truth."Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight." Pr 12:22 NKJVRosalie Elliot made it to the fourth round of a national spelling contest in Washington, DC. The eleven-year-old from South Carolina was asked to spell the word avowal. In her soft southern accent, she spelled the word, but the judges were unable to determine if she had used an a or an e as the next-to-last letter. They debated among themselves for several minutes as they listened to the recording, but it was too accent-blurred to decipher. Finally, the chief judge put the question to the only person who knew the answer. "Was the letter an a, or was it an e?" he asked Rosalie. By this time, being surrounded by whispering young spellers, Rosalie knew the correct spelling of the word. Still, without hesitation, she replied that she had misspelled the word, and she walked from the stage. The entire audience stood and applauded, including some fifty newspaper reporters. The moment was a proud one for her parents. Even in defeat, she was a victor. Full Transcript Below: No Longer an OrphanBy Cindi McMenaminBible Reading:“The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God” (Romans 8:16 NKJV). Do you realize that when we worry and fret and start living a drama-filled life, we are forgetting who we really are? We are, in a sense, starting to live like orphans. After all, when you are trusting Christ alone for the forgiveness of your sin and for eternal life, you have become His adopted child (John 1:12; Romans 8:14-17). And in that relationship as His child, you have a new identity that does not include the corruption or chaos of your past, or the problems in your present, or the fears of your future. Your drama or problems don’t define you either. In your new role, God calls you: His child – John 1:12 says: “As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” His friend – Jesus said “No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you” (John 15:15). A saint – In Ephesians 1:1, believers in Christ are called saints. Yeah, but I’m not a saint, you may be thinking. Your actions may not always say it. But your position in Him says it. You are seen as perfect by Him because You are covered in the righteousness and goodness of Christ. Forgiven – Colossians 1:14 says you have been redeemed (bought back) and forgiven of all your sins—past, present, and future. So your past sins—or your past wounds—can no longer define you. Your slate is wiped clean. Complete – Do you feel like a “work in progress”? Many people describe themselves this way, referring to how they are not yet what God desires of them. But God’s Word is the final authority, and it says “you are complete in Him” (Colossians 2:10). The work has already been done. You just need to live in that truth and wear it. Secure – both eternally and daily, in Him. You are free from condemnation (Romans 8:1-2), free from condemning charges (Romans 8:31-34), and free from the possibility of abandonment (Hebrews 13:5). Unconditionally loved – Romans 8:35-39 says “nothing” will be able to separate you from the love of God – not death, life, circumstances, sin, poor choices, a season of rebellion, nothing! His temple – that means He lives within you. Your heart is His home. And He dwells with you daily (1Corinthians 6:19). Royalty – He says you are seated with Him in the heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). His masterpiece –created in Him for good words which He prepared for you before you were ever born (Ephesians 2:10 NLT). Fully capable by His power –You are able to accomplish “all things” through Christ, who gives you strength (Philippians 4:13). His possession –You are not your own, you belong to Him because you were “bought at a price” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). That means He protects you and provides for you as His own. That also means nothing can touch you that hasn’t first gone through His loving hands. Intersecting Faith & Life: So, why do we stress about our needs, our problems, our finances, our health, and our relationships? Is that our way of saying God has forgotten us and He won’t really be a good Father to His child? Through our stress and striving, are we saying to others around us, “I’m on my own because God won’t—or can’t—help me.” How you and I live day to day is evidence of what we truly believe. An orphaned child says, “I am all alone. I have no one to help me.” A child of God lives confidently in the words: “My Father is with me. And He will help me.” The more you reaffirm who you are in Christ, the more your behavior will reflect your true identity—a loved, well-cared-for child of the Most High God who never needs to stress or worry. A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.”

Wednesday, 17 June 2026   Now as they went out of Jericho, a great multitude followed Him. Matthew 20:29   “And they, proceeding from Jericho, it followed Him, ‘crowd, great'.” (CG)   In the previous verse, Jesus explained that He did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. The narrative continues, saying, “And they, proceeding from Jericho.”   This is the first mention of Hiericho, Jericho, in the New Testament. Depending on the root of the name, it has two possible meanings: Place of Fragrance or Place of the Moon. The account says that they, meaning Jesus and the disciples, were proceeding from Jericho.   This has caused a great deal of difficulty based on the words of Luke 18, where it says, “He was coming near Jericho” when the account occurred. This should not be a problem. The accounts can be reconciled by understanding the full picture.   Jesus is nearing Jericho (Luke 18:35). A blind man sat by the road begging. As Jesus approached, he heard the multitude. It does not say where he is, just that he heard the multitude as they were passing (meaning him) by (Luke 18:26). He asked what was going on and heard it was Jesus who was coming. He starts to cry out, having no idea where Jesus is, just that He is coming. People tell him to be quiet. It then happens that as Jesus and His disciples are on their way out of Jericho, the multitude followed Him (Matthew 20:29). It is at this time that Jesus will heal the blind. This is why it says in Luke 19:1, “And having entered, He traversed the ‘Jericho'” (CG).   The assumption people make from Luke's account is that the blind were on the entrance side of Jericho. But that is only an assumption. Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. The blind would have heard the commotion from the very beginning of the ruckus as the entire city went out to see Jesus. The perspectives are given by each gospel writer:   Luke says He was coming near Jericho. Mark says they came to Jericho. Matthew says they were proceeding from Jericho.   Luke records the beginning of the encounter as Jesus approached Jericho: the blind man heard the crowd and began crying out. Matthew and Mark record the point at which the healing is associated with Jesus' departure from Jericho. Whether the cry began on the approach and culminated near the departure, or whether the locality of Jericho is being described from different sides of the city/region, the accounts need not contradict. Luke 19:1 confirms that Jesus entered and passed through Jericho in connection with the same movement, so the event belongs to the whole Jericho passage, not necessarily to a single frozen instant at one gate.   When Jesus got to the other side of Jericho as He passed through, He would have come to where the blind man was (while exiting the city), and the two parties would have finally met. It is Luke 19:1 that solves this otherwise difficult and wholly misunderstood situation. Since the beginning, excuses have been made to justify the event. To read some of them, go to the Pulpit Commentary on Matthew 20:29.   The problem is that at times, the gospels present information categorically rather than chronologically. However, it is evident throughout the gospels that this is not the case. Unless something is described with a time marker, there is no reason to assume the information is chronological instead of categorical.   We tend to assume that everything happened all at once when reading the accounts, but the man is blind. He would not have gotten up and gone to the other side of Jericho. He would have sat and called out, hoping someone would assist him. But the accounts all say otherwise, saying to him that he should be quiet. As such, “he cried out all the more” (Luke 18:39 et al.).   To “hear” and to “be present with” are not the same things for a blind person as they are for the seeing. The people would have flocked to Jesus as He entered. The blind would have sat in misery-filled anticipation until Jesus finally exited. Understanding this “supposed” discrepancy, it next says, “it followed Him, ‘crowd, great'.”   This would include those who travelled with Jesus, those who met up with Him on His nearing Jericho, and those who were in Jericho who flocked to Him.   Life application: There are other supposed contradictions in Jesus' movements as He traveled from the Galilee to and through Jericho. Some were mentioned in earlier commentaries. There are also supposed contradictions in the account of the healing that will take place. These are not contradictions.   However, when coming to the narratives found in Scripture, we have to insert ourselves into the surrounding events. After giving several options to resolve the matter discussed above, options which span nineteen hundred years of scholarly study, the Pulpit Commentary sadly says, “Inspiration extends not to petty circumstances, and the credibility of the gospel depends not on the rectification of such minutiae.”   That is a cheap and inexcusable way of handling God's “inspiration.” If God inspired the word, then there will be a resolution to the matter. God deals in minutiae. He created the universe, and yet a single atom will not be out of place. He set forth His plan of salvation, and not a single saved person will be forgotten by Him. If God weren't in the details, the whole universe would collapse in on itself.   By placing ourselves in the narrative and seeing it (at least in a non-visual way) as the blind saw it, there is no contradiction at all. If Luke 19:1 didn't exist, the matter would be more difficult to reconcile. Despite this, if Luke 19:1 were not included, we could make our own assumptions, knowing that God had a reason for saying things the way He did.   Unfortunately, without having the right information, errors will naturally seem to arise. The NKJV does not say “And” in Luke 19:1. It says, “Then Jesus entered and passed through Jericho.” That would cause a real contradiction. But the Greek kai (and), not tote (then), is used. It is simply a statement of fact that Jesus entered and passed through without regard to time.   Commentaries will also muddy the waters. Benson says, “Jesus entered and passed through Jericho — Namely, after performing the miracle recorded at the close of the preceding chapter.” This is an assumption (as noted above) that the account of the events is chronological rather than categorical.   The thought Benson presents is that Jesus was entering Jericho, He healed the blind, and then proceeded through Jericho. But taking Matthew, Mark, and Luke together, along with considering Luke 19:1, there is no discrepancy.   Regardless of the fumbling of fallible man, God's word will be vindicated. Be careful not to assume that a commentary (even this one) is correct until you have fully thought through what is being said. If you still cannot come to a resolution on the matter, you can still have faith that God is in the details. All will be made clear someday.   If this is true with His word, it is true with you as well. He is there with you as you struggle through life. Trust that it is so. Keep your eyes, heart, and affections on Him. You will be rewarded for your faith on that day when you stand before Him.   Lord God, thank You that we possess a sure word about what You are doing to bring us back to Yourself. Thank You that Jesus is in the details, and that we are on the right and proper path back to You. Help us to walk in faith each step of the way. To Your glory, we pray. Amen.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:3 NKJV) Jesus began His Sermon on the Mount with these words: “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:3 NKJV). The word translated as poor comes from a verb that means “to shrink, cower, or cringe.” It describes a destitute person or someone who is completely dependent on others for help. You’ll notice, however, that Jesus didn’t just say, “Blessed are the poor.” He said, “Blessed are the poor in spirit.” Jesus wasn’t addressing people’s economic situation but rather their spiritual condition. Let’s not miss the implications of His words. Blessed, or happy, are the people who recognize their spiritual poverty apart from God. Blessed, or happy, are those who recognize what they really are in God’s sight: lost, hopeless, and helpless. Apart from Jesus Christ, everyone is spiritually poor. Regardless of our education, accomplishments, or religious knowledge, we’re all spiritually destitute. We may be tempted to look at someone who’s in prison or who’s down and out or who’s struggling with drug addiction and think, “Now, there’s someone who’s spiritually destitute.” We may be tempted to compare ourselves favorably with them. Maybe we’ve lived a relatively refined life. Maybe we have a good education or have accomplished certain things. If so, we may conclude, “I’m not as destitute as that person.” In one sense, that may be true. But in another sense, it isn’t true at all. Before God, all people are spiritually destitute and unable to help themselves. Some people have a hard time admitting this. It’s difficult for us to acknowledge we need to reach out to God and need His forgiveness. We prefer the illusion of being spiritually self-sufficient, of being good enough in and of ourselves. But the Bible doesn’t give us that option. What do we have to offer God—our righteousness? Romans 3:10 says, “No one is righteous—not even one” (NLT). Our good works? Isaiah 64:6 says, “We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags” (NLT). The only thing we can offer God is our sincere humility. James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor” (NLT). To receive the blessings Jesus talked about, we must embrace our status as being poor in spirit. We were created to bring glory to God, not to ourselves. When we prioritize Him by humbling ourselves, we connect to our original purpose. We find a soul-deep sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. We discover our spiritual potential when we acknowledge our spiritual poverty. Reflection question: How do you maintain a spirit of humility in your relationship with God?
