Avec la guerre en Ukraine, de nouvelles routes commerciales voient le jour. La Tunisie est ainsi devenue un lieu de transit pour le naphta russe, un dérivé du pétrole utilisé dans la pétrochimie. Et ce, au profit de la Corée du Sud notamment. Rouler avec du pétrole russe aux États-Unis, en dépit des sanctions, c'est légalement possible si le brut est raffiné ailleurs qu'en Russie, en Italie par exemple. L'histoire avait été racontée au printemps par le Wall Street Journal. Dans le même esprit, la Corée du Sud a trouvé la parade pour importer, sans en avoir l'air, du naphta russe. Le pays asiatique est le premier importateur au monde de naphta, une matière qui sert de base à la pétrochimie. L'année dernière, un quart des importations sud-coréennes de ce liquide venaient de Russie, soit près de 600 000 tonnes. Mais depuis la guerre, ces flux se sont taris et ont été remplacés par du naphta venant de Tunisie, pays qui n'en produit pas. ► À lire aussi : Face à l'embargo sur le pétrole russe, de nouvelles routes alternatives voient le jour Exporter du naphta sans en produire En octobre, la Tunisie a ainsi envoyé 82 000 tonnes de naphta en Corée du Sud et 274 000 tonnes devraient être expédiées en novembre, selon les données collectées par l'agence Reuters. Si la Tunisie arrive à exporter autant, c'est évidemment qu'elle s'est mise à importer de gros volumes de naphta de Russie. Neuf cargos ont acheminé 410 000 tonnes entre août et novembre, du port de Novorossiysk au port de la Skhira.  Si des sources russes expliquent que la Tunisie est un lieu de stockage en attendant que les prix remontent, les données prouvent que le naphta est destiné à être réexporté vers la Corée du Sud en particulier. D'où l'appétence de l'Asie qui est structurellement à court de ce produit pétrolier qui sert à fabriquer de l'éthylène et propylène utilisés dans la fabrication des plastiques.

An oil spill off Russia's Black Sea coast has contaminated an area at least 400 times bigger than initially estimated, scientists say. The spill took place on Saturday, August 7, at a Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) oil terminal near the port city of Novorossiysk. The CPC, which pumps in oil from Kazakhstan, addressed the spill two days later, claiming that an equipment breakdown caused 12 cubic meters of oil (12,000 liters) to spread over 200 square meters (2,153 square feet). Though the consortium claimed that the situation was "normalized" as of August 8, Russian scientists later reported that on that same day, the oil spill covered an area of 80 square kilometers (31 miles). Russia's natural resources regulator is currently working at the site of the accident to establish just how much oil spilled into the sea.
