Miriam Lancewood is an adventurer, author, and modern-day nomad who chose an extraordinary path far removed from the comforts of modern life. In 2010, Miriam and her husband Peter left civilisation behind, venturing into the high mountains of New Zealand with nothing but a backpack, a bow and arrow, and a tent.  For seven years, they lived as nomads, hunting wild animals, foraging for plants, and embracing a primal existence in the wilderness. Since then, Miriam's journey has continued to evolve. Together with Peter, she has roamed the wilderness of Europe, braved personal challenges like Peter's battle with kidney failure, and settled into an off-grid cottage in Bulgaria. While Peter tends the land, Miriam embarks on solo expeditions, most recently exploring the remote regions of the Himalayas, Tajikistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Miriam is also a celebrated author, with her international bestseller Woman in the Wilderness captivating readers across the globe. Her sequel, Wild at Heart, and her most recent release, Wilder Journeys, showcase her incredible adventures and reflections on nature connection in the modern world. "A bald head can mean so many different things." Lindsay Walter is a 52-time marathoner, 4-time 100-mile finisher, and many-time 50K runner. Most recently, the 32-year-old running coach and freelance writer completed Six Days in the Dome: a multi-day, run-as-much-as-you-can event on an indoor track. (She ran 324 miles in the six-day span!) In this conversation, Lindsay recaps the race, and talks about what's next on the run. She also talks about living with alopecia universalis — a condition that caused her to permanently lose all of her body hair at just two years old. Plus, why she wore a wig for years — and what finally convinced her to ditch it for good. The World Championships are almost here and Nico Montañez is ready. In his fifth appearance in the Road to the Trials series, Nico provides a full download on all things World Champs. First we talk about the selection process and his reason for accepting the offer after turning it down in 2019. Nico provides some context to how decisions like this can get tricky when weighed against the possibility of potentially larger paydays at other marathons. Then we go into full training and racing talk highlighted by a full breakdown of the "marathon concentration workouts" that were featured in the fantastic new video on Citius Mag YouTube channel that followed him on one of those strong efforts. This three workout progression provides him with the physical and mental stamina for race-day and his description of them was illuminating. Nico then shares his full mid-run nutrition program and why it has changed over time. Lastly, we talk about logistics for the World Championships. As always, Nico's openness and thoughtfulness are one-of-a-kind. Sponsors: Thank you to Lagoon for sponsoring this episode and for their truly amazing pillows! "Not all rectangles are squares. That's how I dissect who's self-conscious and not in the short-shorts vs. tights debates." Welcome back to “Everything You Ever Wanted to Know!” I've worked in the running industry in some capacity for roughly a decade now, and as much as I've immersed myself, there's still so much I don't know or understand. "I went into it with no expectations and a lot of gratitude." Fresh off her seventh 100-miler finish — and second finish at the Hardrock 100 — Emily Halnon returns to the Ali on the Run Show for the sixth time. In this conversation, Emily talks about getting a call 19 hours before the race start saying she'd gotten off the waitlist. Should she want it, a bib for the esteemed 102.5-mile race in Colorado was hers. She wanted it. So, she wrangled her crew (and an extra pair of socks), and went on to finish this year's race nearly two hours faster than in 2022. She finished in 36 hours and 47 minutes — the ninth woman and 33rd finisher overall. Today, we get to hear all about it, including why this race means so much to Emily, what it's like racing alongside Courtney Dauwalter, and what happened when Emily hit her lowest point of the race. Plus, all about her forthcoming book, which she finished and submitted to her publisher the day before lining up at the Hardrock start line.
