The Practice Brave Podcast, hosted by Brianna Battles, is an outstanding resource for postpartum athletes and mothers alike. With her technical expertise and honest perspective as a mother juggling her own life, Brianna offers encouragement, inspiration, and informative insights. She paves the way for a movement of ambitious moms who unapologetically prioritize their own physical well-being. The podcast is filled with valuable information, particularly for those women who were active before pregnancy and felt lost when trying to navigate the challenges of an active pregnancy and postpartum period. Personally, I struggled with this issue and felt devastated when told to stop running. However, through a pre/postnatal fitness certification course and discovering Brianna's Instagram and podcast, I realized that I was not alone in my values. I am excited to continue learning from her.
One of the best aspects of The Practice Brave Podcast is how Brianna delivers information objectively without bias while also keeping it real. Her network of colleagues is phenomenal, and each episode is relatable, educational, and enjoyable to listen to. Additionally, Brianna's expertise is unparalleled in comparison to fitness influencers or other strength and conditioning professionals in the field. She has extensively educated herself on women's health topics, learned directly from specialists in the field, put in the work, and gained invaluable experience.
However, there are no apparent negative aspects of The Practice Brave Podcast that can be addressed in this review. The podcast consistently delivers valuable content that resonates with its audience.
In conclusion, Brianna Battles fills a significant void as she navigates a career in strength and conditioning alongside family life. Whether you are an exercise science student figuring out your career path or a mom managing pregnancy and postpartum chapters, Brianna offers practical wisdom based on evidence-based research. She combines scientific knowledge with artistic skill in her craft. This podcast is a must-listen for pregnant and postpartum athletes seeking specialized guidance, and it serves as a valuable resource for ongoing education for coaches and trainers worldwide. The Practice Brave Podcast is an exceptional resource that offers the information, empowerment, and community that many women seek during their pregnancy and postpartum journey.
In this episode, I sit down with pelvic floor physical therapist Mindy English to discuss what to look for when seeking a pelvic floor PT. This is a common question we receive, and we wanted to provide a nuanced conversation around it, especially for female athletes who may not realize how interconnected pelvic health is with overall movement, training, and long-term well-being. We also discuss what to expect in a pelvic floor PT appointment, why it's critical for practitioners to take a full-body approach, and how pelvic floor therapy can help athletes of all ages—whether they're dealing with postpartum recovery, leakage during workouts, or long-term pelvic health symptoms. In this episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Ty Horn, who many of you might know from his presence on Instagram where he shares powerful insights about strength training, Jiu-Jitsu, and life. Ty and I dove deep into his story—from being a Division 1 football player to hitting a major life setback, then rediscovering strength through strongman competitions and eventually falling in love with Jiu-Jitsu. He shared how strength training gave him not only physical resilience but a sense of identity and purpose again, especially after dealing with legal trouble, being ostracized, and navigating the post-athlete identity crisis. This was a real, vulnerable, and fun conversation that covered so much more than just sports or lifting. Ty brought honesty, humor, and perspective to what it really means to train for life—not just for aesthetics or wins. If you're a parent, an athlete trying to figure out “what's next,” or someone who's trying to find their groove in fitness and life again—this episode is for you. A little more personal of a podcast today… with my youngest son Chance's birthday coming up (turning 7!), it had me reflecting on the decision to have a second baby and what that looked like. I wasn't even in a mental place to think about another baby for the first 3 years postpartum after Cade, but I knew we wanted to have a second. I have had experiences within my own family that reaffirmed the decision to have another baby and not have Cade be an only child. I was also worried that 4 years would be too big of a gap. But in the end, it's been perfect for our family and my experience with Chance was so drastically different than my first pregnancy and birth. I hope you enjoy this deeper, more personal look into my life and family and hope that you know that whatever decisions you make for your family are yours and yours alone. Today, P&PA Coach Katie joins me and shares her inspiring story of going from a hairstylist of 18 years to a full-time P&PA Coach in her very own space. It's a story that we so commonly hear - we don't know we need this information until we do. This was the case for Katie when she realized she developed prolapse after her first baby, leading her down the rabbit hole of pelvic health and desperately seeking answers. Eventually, she finds the P&PA Cert and her path completely changes. She realized her passion for not only helping pregnant + postpartum athletes but also older women and created a class for 60+. She realized the principles of P&PA apply across the board for ALL athletes. Katie also attended the P&PA Live Coaches Seminar in Boise in 2022 which gave her confidence she needed to focus on coaching more. She started with an 800 sq ft garage for a year and then ultimately ended up leaving hairstyling completely and pursuing her business full-time, now in her own independent space. So inspirational! Let's be honest…female athletes, and women in general, are not taught a lot about their bodies, especially as it relates to pelvic health and athletic performance. Most people don't learn until they have to, so in an effort to provide some practical advice for female athletes across the span of their lifetime, I elaborated on a very popular Instagram post I did last week which sparked a lot of questions! Today, I am honored to have Angela Lee Pucci join me as she shares her story of becoming a world champion MMA fighter, a first-time mom, and ultimately creating her nonprofit organization, Fightstory. Angela has always been in the combat sports world and knew that it's what she wanted to do from an early age. She pursued it and was successful as a six-time world champ. When she became a mom in 2021, she knew that she was not done yet and returned to fighting postpartum. She retired from fighting in September 2023 to pursue the creation of Fightstory, a nonprofit organization on a mission to inspire, heal, and unite the world through the stories of fighters from all walks of life. A note about Fightstory from Angela: Fightstory was created from a need for change. A need for purpose. A need for hope. We all have a story to tell. These stories are like chapters in a book of which is our life. The good, the bad, the ups, the downs, the struggles, the triumphs. It is all part of the journey and it all leads you to where you're destined to be. You are the author of your own book. You control the narrative. Keep writing, the best is yet to come. At FIGHTSTORY, our goal is to gather these stories into a collection. A library, in which all stories can be acknowledged, shared and celebrated. Your story matters. Your story could save a life. Our goal is to pass on the wisdom that we've gained from each experience that we've faced and conquered. Our struggle is our strength. Life is a Fight & We Are Fighters Visit fightstory.org to learn more or follow the Instagram at @fightstoryofficial. Find Angela on Instagram at @angelaleemma.
