Talking Through Damage From the Inside For this episode 74 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through the Mid-Season Finale Damage From the Inside. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 7 was written by Jacob Pinion and directed by Tawnia McKiernan. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 8 titled The Sky Is a Graveyard. A Taxidermy Nightmare… well, not really. So we get from the start Dakota is being escorted to safety by Strand and his Rangers with one of them looking like Virginia’s Doppelgänger. We don’t know if that was on purpose, or if maybe this actor is Colby Minifie’s stunt double. But in any case, something happens and Strand and Ranger Samuels are pulled away only to come back and everyone is dead and Dakota is missing. Cue, Alicia and Charlie who are just sitting on some outpost and Strand calling for them to help find the missing girl. Then things get strange but visually was fun to see. The creepy hunting lodge, stuffed animals, and a creepy lone survivor who likes to play dress-up with walkers as a way to keep the living away. This wasn’t the best episode this season and finally getting Alicia some screen time was a welcome sign but seemed a wasted opportunity by the showrunners. For a Mid-Season Finale is really lacked some punch and felt like more of a weak attempt at a B-Horror film. We did get to see Alicia finally reunite with Morgan which was a really great scene. Strand is still sticking to his conman ways and I guess we did get some sort of payoff with the whereabouts of Grace. In the end, with knowing that Covid interrupted their plans and the real Mid-Season finale wasn’t finished we just hope the back half, when it returns, pays off.  Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! We will be covering the two hour finale of The Walking Dead World Beyond in it’s entirety now that Fear is on hiatius but if you have feedback about Fear’s Mid-Season finale we will cover that too! Next time, we’ll cover feedback we get for the two hour finale of World Beyond S1E9 The Deepest Cut, and S1E10 In This Life. This week, Fear was able to get a 0.26 in the 18-49 demographic, with 1.085 million viewers. We had a Talking Dead after all this time and it got a 0.04 in the 18-49 with 254,000 thousand viewers. We could still use your help! Industrial Light & Magic digital artist and compositing supervisor Todd Vaziri has worked on every Star Wars movie since 2002, beginning with Attack of the Clones. Whether for the prequels (including the final duel on Mustafar), the sequels (figuring out the feel of a modern Star Wars movie), the spin-offs (helping to bring Tarkin and the Kessel Run to life), theme park rides (including Star Tours and Rise of the Resistance), or Stephen Colbert’s Green Screen Challenge, Mr. Vaziri’s passion for movie-making is evident in his every shot, and in his every answer on this episode, I’ve wanted him to be a guest on Talking Bay 94 for such a long time, and man, it was so worth the wait. Make sure you are following him on Twitter: @TVaziri … he is truly one of the best people to follow, period, on that app. This Friday, at 7:30 PM Central, we will be live again on Scener.com, breaking down Episode 4 of The Mandalorian Season 2. This will be every Friday night this season, with me and special guests pausing rewinding and analyzing every shot and, thanks to Scener’s technology, you’ll be able to watch seamlessly alongside us! Head to scener.com/talkingbay94 to set a reminder for this Friday and I’ll see you there! Trill We arrive on the Trill homeworld and, unlike Earth, the world is welcome to Starfleet. What they weren’t so welcome to was a symbiont in a non-Trill host. One of the more amusing parts of this story was the Saru dinner, a sort of Thanksgiving day festivity on the Discovery, followed by a holo-movie. Zora is alive! We finally see something from the second Short Trek, Calypso. Zora, the artificial intelligence we see interact with Craft in that Short Trek, emerges when the computer does not give Saru good recommendations. Talking Through The Key For this episode 71 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through The Key. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 4 was written by David Johnson and directed by Ron Underwood. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 5 titled The Madman Across the Water. We had some issues this week when trying to record and Kyle couldn’t make it due to work and other issues so everyone recorded their own parts and Kyle edited together so it’s a little different but in the end it worked out fine. BRIAN’S NOTE: Actually, everything did NOT work out fine. Most of my segments were left out of the recording this week, due to a lack some confusion as far as how many segments I had recorded, although a few of them were read by Kyle. I had recorded a segment for each segment we have in the episode. My rating was 9.4/10, which I believe was one of the things left off. I’ll have to go back and update this after I do. John Dorie gets pushed to the limits! In this episode, John Dorie seems to be adjusting to this new Ginny controlled world and top cop of Lawton. That all changes with the murder of another citizen of Lawton and Sherif John is on the case. But we are not in a right vs wrong kind of world and in the end, Ginny is the one who calls the shots. This pushes him to his limits and we see again that there is no justice in the ZA. Morgan is looking for Grace and has Rufus the bloodhound on his side but he gets derailed by those two tagger boys. This does finally clarify that whatever that Key that Morgan has is going to be something important but to whom? Again, Fear the Walking Dead just keeps getting better and better and there is still so much more to come. Send in your feedback! Please leave your feedback! We will be covering Fear The Walking Dead in it’s entirety but if you have feedback about the Spinoff World Beyond we will cover that too, but the main focus will be with Fear! Next time, we’ll cover feedback we get for S6E5 Honey, and then briefly talk through any feedback for The Walking Dead: World Beyond S1E6, titled Shadow Puppets. Back to the normal deadline this week! Get your feedback in by 6 PM Eastern/5 PM Central on Tuesday, November 10, 2020. One of the best ways to submit feedback is on our Facebook group. World Beyond S1E5 Madman Across the Water got a 0.18 in the 18-49 demographic with 742,000 thousand viewers, down from 0.28 and 1.020 million viewers last week. You can also send us an email at our new email: walkingdead@talkthroughmedia.com or call our new voicemail at 216-232-6146. This week, Fear was able to get a 0.31 in the 18-49 demographic, with 1.276 million viewers, down from 0.39 and 1.501 million viewers. World Beyond S1E5 Madman Across the Water got a 0.18 in the 18-49 demographic with 742,000 thousand viewers, down from 0.28 and 1.020 million viewers last week. Talking Through Alaska For this episode 70 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and Brian talk through Alaska. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 3 was written by Mallory Westfall, and directorial return of Colman Domingo. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 4 titled The Wrong End of a Telescope. AL and Dwight go for a walk and find love! In this episode, we are paired with Al and Dwight on one of Ginny’s errands roaming around who knows where to document the fall of civilization. Not that we don’t already know that most didn’t survive, but I guess that doesn’t stop Ginny’s giving out some ZA busy work. This was a good episode focused on Al and Dwight’s budding friendship and their struggles with this new reality that our group has been in since the Ginny takeover. AL is still stalking Isabelle on the walkie that leads them to some office dwellers who seem to not have moved on outside of their workplace. In any case, we get some highs and lows but overall a really good character-driven episode, again. Fear is running on all cylinders and this is a great thing this season. Jett Reno is back, and boy was she funny this episode! She had some of the best lines ever heard on this show. Bad guys This episode had a bit of a Western feel, with a barroom brawl and a villain. Talking Through The End is the Beginning Fear’s back! For this episode 68 of Fear the Walking Dead Talk Through, LT, Kyle and I talk through The End is the Beginning. Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 1 was written by the showrunners Ian Goldberg & Andrew Chambliss, and directed by Michael E. Satrazemis. We also discuss a little bit about World Beyond Episode 2 titled The Blaze of Gory. Morgan is Alive! This episode begins with some dudes spraying graffiti, a dude with a dog who likes to chop off heads, with a call from Ginny who is still looking for Morgan, dead or alive. So it’s a relief (not that all of us didn’t expect it) that Morgan, while in bad shape, is still alive and moseying around Texas. He has some new digs in a water tower and met a new friend but Ginny is looking for him and sent a head collecting bounty hunter with a dog after him. It sets the stage for a very western-style season that we are very looking forward to. A great start but there were some missteps. We enjoyed the episode as a whole but there were some silly things that we are all too accustomed to with Fear. LT really made the point that the show is called The Walking Dead so if our group ever has wheels there always something that forces them back on their feet. But if you have a Truck! A four-wheeling behemoth that a few fallen trees and clearly a way to drive around it makes you have to abandon all hope and have to hoof it the rest of the way? I mean, really? Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 1 Episode 10 – No Small Parts We’re back with the tenth and final episode of Season 1 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, titled No Small Parts. This episode was written by creator, executive producer, and showrunner Mike McMahan and directed by Barry J. Kelly, who also directed S1E1 Second Contact, S1E4 Moist Vessel, and S1E7 Much Ado About Boimler. SPOILERS AHEAD!!! If you haven’t seen the season finale of Lower Decks, stop right now!!! Go watch it, then come back!!! We’ll be here for you! Mariner’s secret is out… and it’s now more than just Boimler that knows! The cold open starts with Boimler not only telling Mariner that he knows her secret that she is the Captain’s daughter, but everyone else on ship finds out, too! That might have been a little convenient for the secret to be broadcast over a communicator, but it got the job done. Sucking up to Mariner… We see a lot of people sucking up to Mariner all of the sudden, even senior officers you might not expect to do so. We thought one of the funniest was Lieutenant Levy, who I don’t think we’ve seen before, a conspiracy theorist who thinks that Wolf 359 was an inside job (well, if you think that it was led by Locutus, it WAS an inside job of sorts!!!), that the Dominion War didn’t happen, and that Changelings don’t exist. There were other funny encounters, but that one was among the funniest. Ensign Peanut Hamper… We encounter the Exocomps, which were first seen in the TNG episode The Quality of Life, and one has even joined Starfleet and is Tendi’s new recruit. It was interesting to think of the Exocomps as Starfleet officers, but since they became sentient, I guess that makes sense. However, unlike when we saw them in The Quality of Life, this Exocomp didn’t want to make the sacrifice. It was more interested in saving itself than saving the crew. Peanut Lore… Here’s something I didn’t mention on the podcast. It’s funny that the Exocomp was left floating in space, much like Lore was… You may recall that the Pakleds were the ones who found Lore when he showed back up in the TNG episode S4E3 Brothers. I wonder if that will be a story they pick up on in Season 2. Spot the References… Again, there were a lot of references this week. I used this Den of Geek article to help find them. Obviously, the Titan was not only referenced, but seen, but there were a lot more! Did they stick the landing? Most of us agreed that they did stick the landing, though we had a couple of dissenters, including last week’s guest host, LT. Kyle gave it his third 10 in a row, and I gave it my second. This had lots of action, heroes, dramatic tension, and a new bad guy from someone you might not expect. It also left the show in a much different position than where it started. Shaxs is dead, Boimler has been promoted to Lieutenant Junior Grade and transferred to the Titan, Rutherford no longer has his implant and has suffered memory loss, and Tendi, well, she’s Tendi. It seems like the adversarial relationship between the mother captain and the daughter ensign is over, replaced with a much more collaborative one. Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 1 Episode 9 – Crisis Point We’re back with the ninth and penultimate episode of Season 1 of Star Trek: Lower Decks, titled Crisis Point. This episode was written by story editor Ben Rodgers and directed by Bob Suarez, who also directed S1E3 Temporal Edict and S1E6 Terminal Provocations. Joining us this week is a special guest, LT from NC! Mariner again taking charge when she shouldn’t… The cold open starts with a scene where we see Mariner violating the Prime Directive. She takes charge but avoids rules she shouldn’t. It really sets up the end of this episode. However, Freeman offers a compromise that effectively ends the reptiles (Selay?) overthrowing the rats (Anticans?) by offering food replicators. I did get a laugh out of the lizards wanting to bask, and how they taste delicious. Boimler’s simulation taken over… Boimler goes out of his way to kiss butt. LT made a really good observation during the podcast on how Boimler seems to be able to handle interactions with the other ensigns but clams up whenever someone has a higher rank. Boimler, as usual, tries to come up with the perfect answer for Freeman by studying how she reacts to answers, instead of doing what he should be doing, and answer for himself. Mariner really IS messed up… Of course, when Mariner discovers this is a “perfect” simulation, she re-programs it to become a movie, with her as the villain. This movie turned out to be better therapy than the food metaphors spouted from Dr. Migleemo. She ends up facing off with herself. This was both interesting and shows how messed up she is. I hope that she worked out things like it seemed she did. She really is the only one that casts herself as the villain. She really is capable of being an exemplary officer if she applies herself and stops taking short cuts. The budding Rutherford/Billups bromance… The Rutherford/Billups scenes were funny. There was a budding bromance, reminiscent of Laforge and Data, or O’Brien and Bashir, but unrequited at this point. I think they could have explored that a bit more in real life. Tendi explains why she’s not part of the Orion Syndicate… Some Orions haven’t been thieves for over five years! So I guess Orion is not part of the Federation, but some have left to join Starfleet. Mariner did program her to be the stereotypical Orion, something she didn’t appreciate, but she appreciated Mariner getting into this movie even less. So now he knows… I thought it was funny when Boimler ran out of the Captain’s Ready Room screaming like a ninny, as Freeman says he came in unprepared. In actuality, he clammed up after discovering the big secret about Mariner, that she is Captain Freeman’s daughter. What he does with that secret is anyone’s guess. It seems like we’ll know in a few days. Best episode so far! We all agreed that Crisis Point was the best episode of the season. It did go heavy on the references again, almost exclusively from the movies, but they were appropriate both to the story and the situation. This season really seems ready to end on a high note. Will they stick the landing? Tune in next week!
