Everyone seeks to choose their own life path I've been working on sharing the power of conscious reality creation and mindfulness with the world. To do this, I've made numerous life choices for the path I intend to walk, the blogs I write, and even the journeys of my fictional characters in the sci-fi and fantasy I create. All of this comes down to Pathwalking – my life philosophy for how to choose your life experience – one step at a time. Problem: You feel dissatisfied with your life. You feel like your life is not yours to control. It feels as if you are on a hamster wheel or otherwise spinning endlessly with no set plan or direction. Solution: Practical applications of Pathwalking to make choices and decisions to guide your life experience how you desire it to go. Go with the flow When I began to develop Pathwalking, I came to see life as a flowing river. Like the river, it's not always a simple flow. Sometimes there are rocks, rapids, natural and artificial obstacles, and so on. As you flow in the river of life, situations, experiences, and seasons change. Some change is natural, some artificial. And there is little to nothing you can do about this because change is inevitable. Pathwalking, like Buddhism, recognizes the impermanence of life. When you don't go with the flow of positive, evolutionary change, you have three other options. 1.      Resist and be drowned 2.      Eventually, be swept into the stream 3.      Swim What is Pathwalking – and what can it do for you? And what IS Pathalking? Mindfulness. Employing conscious awareness here and now to know yourself, in the present – the only time that's really real – and with that knowledge, seek, find, and walk a path of your choosing. This week's Applied Guidance for Mindfulness Tool: I've presented a tool just like this one before. But it's such a powerful tool that it's worth repeating. I'm sharing my 5 Questions for Mindfulness here. Set aside 2-5 minutes today to answer the questions. To begin, pause from whatever else you're doing. Take three slow, deep breaths in and out. Then, write out each question and the answer that comes to you in the moment. ·        What am I thinking? ·        What am I feeling? ·        How am I feeling? ·        What am I doing? ·        What are my intentions? These questions can only be genuinely answered in the present. The more you ask them – even if you don't write them out – the more you put yourself in touch with yourself. Everyone has a filter and when they know they're being sold to, they shut down. However, storytelling bypasses that filter and connects directly with the emotional brain. It helps your brain determine if you trust that person. Stories are the oldest form of communication. If it works so well as a method of communication, why wouldn't it work in selling?  That's why—in his book “The Ultimate Selling Story”—Roy shares how to “Cut through the marketing clutter, forge a powerful bond with your market, and set up the sale using the hero's journey of story selling.” Learn more of his methods in this episode of Sales Reinvented! [9:41] Resources to improve story selling [11:07] Roy's top 3 story selling dos and don'ts [15:23] The Titans of Direct Response Can anyone learn the art of storytelling? Some people are naturally gifted at storytelling. If you aren't one of them, you can learn how. Everyone's heard of the hero's journey. There are equivalent templates in storytelling and story selling. There are common structures and common purposes. If you want to get better, you have to practice. You can also do things to get out of your own head. For example, Roy joined an improv comedy class.  The great storytelling formula: PAISA Roy notes that the story itself is important but telling a good story doesn't make you a great story seller. You need to build a character that shows a relationship with the prospect. Then you need to nail the story context. Then you have to implement the great storytelling formula: PAISA.  Problem: You start by connecting with someone in the context of their problem—an actual problem or an unfulfilled desire.  Agitate: You have to agitate the emotions that make them want to take action. Invalidate: You have to invalidate the other options they've considered (i.e. a competitor) Solution: What is an effective solution to the problem that you started with?  Action: What action do you take in the end? What does it take to close the deal?  You can use these two strategies to craft and tell great stories.  The attributes of a great story seller Roy believes that a great story seller needs three main attributes: The ability to actively listen: You may think that sales is one-way communication and putting yourself out there. But you have to pay attention to what your prospect cares about and is interested in. It will improve your ability to sell because you can cater your stories to the prospect.  The desire to gather stories: If you have your own great PAISA stories, client stories, etc. you need to gather them so you have a story available when you need to use one.  The knowledge that you need to understand your audience: What matters to them? Are you curious enough to set your ego aside and pay attention to what your audience is engaged with?  One of the best things that can happen when you tell stories is when you imagine the story you're telling. If Roy is telling a story about what someone is facing at work, he starts by imagining what their office environment is like. Imagining the three-dimensional space makes the story more compelling because you'll include details instead of just outlining points.  Roy's top 3 story selling dos and don'ts Don't think just because you tell a story that someone will buy. You still need a great offer that matches your audience. If your story doesn't build trust and serve the selling message, they won't buy. Don't forget that your job is to move the sale forward. An individual story may not close the deal but it may take the customer further toward making a decision. Maybe the goal of a story is to get their attention, book the next phone call, or get them to believe in your product.  Don't tell a story without a purpose. If your story doesn't have a sales purpose, it's not doing its job—and may make the prospect question why they're listening to you.  Start in the middle of the action instead of at the beginning. You don't need the backstory. Start in the context of what's going on in the moment that's closest to the point of decision or peak excitement. Eugene Schwartz once said, “Every good sales message should open like an action movie.”  How does the story serve the buying decision process? The prospect needs to make a sequence of decisions to propel them toward a purchase. Your prospect needs a pathway. Include conflict in the story to make it interesting. A level of animosity, conflict, etc. makes the story more compelling.  Listen to the whole episode to hear Roy tell a compelling story that sells. In this way, it's sometimes possible to bring on hyper focus, or the flow state.  Some ideas for sensory engagement  Sound: instrumental music (or music in a language you don't know IF you don't know the lyrics), binaural waves, ambient sounds  Smell: candle, coffee or tea, chewing gum  Taste: coffee or tea, chewing cum  Touch: fidget toy - purchased or homemade, a smooth stone, putty, a pen, literally anything  Sight: watch your candle, watch your fidget, close your eyes and visualize your work project (helpful for art, making videos, writing fiction, etc...)  When my senses are all engaged, and my mind is focused on what I want to write, after a few minutes, my mind can't hold back any more. The Millionaire Marketing Mentor's Million-Dollar Blueprint Moving to the U.S. from Poland Adam says that he was "young and stupid" when he came to the U.S. He moved to the U.S. in 1989, around the time the Polish communist government ended and democratic elections began. His motivation was to escape the no-opportunity mentality and make his way elsewhere. Another thing was Poland's three-year mandatory military service. Adam came to the U.S. with only 194 bucks with limited English speaking skills. Figuring Things Out "Survival of the fittest" defined Adam's journey: he was a high school graduate with no skills. Most people become entrepreneurs because of their academic and educational background. They always wait for someone else to permit them. One of the things that got Adam ahead is claiming to be something and proving it. Not learning quickly enough was not an option. If he waited to get training or get certifications, he would have starved. Adapting to the Fast-Changing World The top-paying jobs and marketing innovations today didn't exist years ago. It would be best if you had situational awareness of what's going on in your marketplace. You can always get ahead and do well for yourself with this awareness. The Biggest Challenges Adam Faced The minor things are not speaking English and not having money, connections, and education. The major challenge was being lazy and wanting to be rich. The best entrepreneurs are lazy. They're always looking for a better way to accomplish something, driving them to create new solutions. Adam thinks that he hasn't come across his biggest challenge yet. He calls himself the optimistic realist.  Another greatest challenge is himself and his way of thinking.  The skills you've got may also be what's hindering you from going to a million-dollar level. Solving a Problem You cannot solve a problem with the same level of thinking awareness that created the problem in the first place. From your vantage point, you may only be seeing limited solutions to your problems. The key is to engage in activities driven by where you want to be, not from where you are. When you feel stuck in a problem, think about it as if you were in a different place. Moving away from the problem and gaining a new perspective can show you the opportunity behind the problem. Gaining Wisdom from Books For Adam, our way of thinking is 95% of the foundation that decides whether we succeed or fail. Some of the first skills an entrepreneur must master in marketing is selling and persuasion. He has his team read the book The Secret of Selling Anything by Harry Browne. It says that everything is about the exchange that gives us more happiness. The book teaches you present offers that make prospects see them as a pathway to happiness rather than spending money. Being a fast learner created an illusion of not needing support for Adam. He can only reverse engineer what he sees in other people's programs, not what he doesn't. Our perception of investment is the higher the amount, the greater the risk. However, the risk is the same, whatever the amount, and as a result, it trips us up. You have three constraints if you want to be at any one of the corners. These three constraints are cheapness, speed, and quality. You can never have all three. Customers who want to get things done faster with the least amount of energy understand that it requires increased investment. Going Platinum in Marketing  Creativity often leads to distraction. Some entrepreneurs are more excited about the idea of what isn't than what is. Adam shares the concept of going platinum in marketing the business with his clients. September 13, 2020 | Pastor Nathan Elms We live our lives with an incomplete understanding of the world... of ourselves... but we have a sense of God... of eternity... of the transcendent power of love... I believe that God is threaded through our lives... we are marked by his presence... and his absence... There is no escape from the nature of our creation... we are the canvas upon which God paints... I believe that this is true whether or not we admit it. In fact, I believe that you could deny this, reject this, turn away and return to your life ... and the life you then lived would speak this truth back to you. Here is a true thing: We almost never know what would make us happy. I’m going to list 5 things that motivate… Fame, wealth, beauty, genius, and power... 1. Fame 2. Wealth 3. Beauty 4. Genius 5. Power So What's the Problem? You find it everywhere, from the petty supervisor to the bitter gym coach. Small people driven to mindless, unethical behavior, drunk on just a few drops of power. They often can't make friends, their marriages end badly, they self-destruct. The world is full of these miniature, sad dictators destined for a proverbial downfall. Wait, it gets worse... The thing is, it's the lust for power itself that's poisonous. You find that need for power most in the type of person who hates having to obey all of society's social contracts, particularly the ones that require them to not act like jerks all day. These are the people who are only nice guys because of fear of retribution if they do otherwise, so their main goal is to become strong enough that no retribution is possible (this is why sociopaths tend to seek positions of power, by the way). Experts have figured out that the brain has no ability to actually predict your emotional reaction to life changes that haven't happened yet. In other words, you physically do not know what you want. What we need is transformation, not possessions... But are you ready for a surprise? Here are three things that research shows makes people happy: Studies show that friendships, altruism and religious practices bring happiness. It is almost like God knows you better than you do...... Structuring Persuasive Presentations Why should we be concerned with the structure of a persuasive presentation? Top predictor of professional success is how much you enjoy and how good you are at public speaking.   Studies also show the ability to give presentations was ranked as the most critical skill needed to move up in today’s business environment.   Before we jump into the meat of this topic, remember as you prepare your persuasive message that you want to focus on one defined issue. You are not there to persuade on ten different points. Stay focused and steer clear of sensitive issues that aren't on your original agenda. In other words, don't inadvertently offend your audience on one issue when your focus in on another. The structure of your persuasive message should follow the pattern discussed below.   Create Interest You have to generate an interest about your chosen topic. Your audience needs a reason to listen: Why should they care? What's in it for them? How can you help them? A message that starts with a really good reason to listen will grab the attention of the audience, enabling you to continue with the message. Without this attention, there is no hope of getting your message across.   State the Problem You must clearly define the problem you are trying to solve. The best pattern for a persuasive presentation is to find a problem and relate how it affects the audience. In this way, you show them a problem they have and why it is of concern to them. Why is this a problem to your audience?     Offer Evidence This is the support you give to your argument. Evidence validates your claims and offers proof that your argument is correct. It allows your audience to rely on other sources besides you. Evidence can include examples, statistics, testimonies, analogies, and any other supporting material used to enhance the integrity and congruency of your message.   Present a Solution You have gained your audience's interest and provided evidence in support of your message; now you must solve their problem. You present the argument you want them to believe and satisfy the need you have identified or created. You have created dissonance and now you are providing the solution. How can your product meet their needs and wants and help them achieve their goals?   Call to Action A persuasive message is not true persuasion if your audience does not know exactly what they need to do. Be specific and precise. In order to complete the solution to their problem, they must take action. This is the climax, the peak of your logic and emotion. The prescribed actions must be feasible. Make your call to action as easy as possible.   Using this type of structure facilitates people's acceptance of your message and clarifies what you want them to do. We all have a logical side to our mind, which results in our need for order and arrangement. If we don't sense some sort of structure, we tend to become confused. Getting inside a customer’s head with a PLAN After you have identified a position in a particular market niche, expert Pat Flynn suggests climbing inside your customer's head. There is a formula for writing such copy, and in today's episode, I will share it. You can start using it today.. In direct response marketing, we  test different elements of our marketing, honing on on the most effective variation. This process allows you to be constantly improve the outcomes you are achieving. It occurred to me that I could do the same in my personal life. Here are some routines and habits I am split testing in my own life: Doing my quiet time/”hour of power” each morning first vs. doing my most important work task first each morning. Exercising in the early morning hours vs. exercising in the afternoons. Recording my podcasts weekly vs. recording them 6 weeks in advance Caffeine intake vs. no caffeine intake. Naps each day vs. no  naps each day. The possibilities are endless. What can you split test in your personal life? Spiritual Foundations If you are feeling overwhelmed, stressed, overworked, and anxious – there is rest and peace for you. The Lord wants you to enter into His rest. Now, in the Kingom, everything is upside down. He who wants to be lifted up must bow down, those who want to rule must serve. and those would wish to be first must be last. To achieve God's rest does not mean that we are inactive. It means we understand that while we may labor with God, the outcome is up to Him, not to us. It is in vain that you rise up early     and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil;     for he gives to his beloved sleep. Psalm 127:2 So go ahead, and do what needs to be done – but rest. And when you have done all you can do, then stand. Leave the outcome to God. Feature Segment: How to Write Web Copy That Sells Here is the formula for writing web copy that sells your products and services. First: why it's necessary. People don't take any action initially. They don't know you, like you, or trust you. Copy fills in the gap. Why it's so long. We need to answer all the objections ahead of time. Better for us to raise and answer all the questions first. It's time for a new paradigm. To Sell More, P.A.S.T.O.R. Your Customers A Five-Part Framework For Better Sales Copy If you want to sell more of your products and services, or even simply sell more people on your ideas, you must learn the basics of the art of copywriting. But what is copywriting, really? One of my favorite definitions was given by a man named John E. Kennedy, back in 1904. Kennedy defined advertising (and copywriting) as: “salesmanship in print.” If you can write effective sales copy, you can literally write your own paycheck. There really should be no such thing as a “broke copywriter”. By definition, good copywriters can create money out of thin air. So why does copy so often fail? Copywriting Fails When You Ignore Universal Principles There are universal psychological triggers that help you sell more effectively. The problem is, the field of copywriting is strewn with misleading, manipulative, and even in some cases malicious techniques. You can hardly “swing a cat” without hitting a copywriter who has a “formula” for writing copy. Most of these formulas are actually quite good.  Many however, are based on tricks of manipulation and psychology that are more than a bit morally wonky. The framework I’m going to share with you today, though, is intentionally based on universal principles that are focused on doing good, and helping people make decisions that are in their own best interest. To Sell More, P.A.S.T.O.R. Your Customers Most people associate the term “pastor” with the preacher at church. While this is certainly true in most cases, the original meaning of the word “pastor” was actually “to shepherd”. And what does the shepherd do? He or she cares for, feeds, and protects the flock. Now, before we go any further, I should address the habit that some marketers have of referring to their customers as their “herd”. It seems to paint an unflattering picture. This kind of imagery is not what I am invoking here. The actual role of a shepherd is a loving, caring, and protective one. In fact, Jesus, who called himself the “good Shepherd”, actually laid down his life for his flock. I am not suggesting any religious overtones for your copy: what I am suggesting is that you adopt the same loving, caring, and protective role as you write copy for your prospects and customers. And, as you might’ve guessed, P.A.S.T.O.R. is also an acronym for the major sections of your copy. Here is the explanation: “P” is for PROBLEM You must begin by identifying  the problem that you are solving. The simplest, most effective way to do this is to describe the problem in great detail. It’s a psychological principle: the more accurately you can describe your reader’s problem in terms they relate to, the more they instinctively feel that you must have an answer to that problem. Use the reader’s own language, the very words and phrases they use to describe the problem they want to solve. For instance, if you are writing about fitness and weight loss, you might begin by describing their current situation this way: “You've tried every fad diet that’s come along. You’ve started and stopped a dozen different exercise programs, perhaps joined several different gyms, but the truth is you just can’t seem to take the weight off (or keep it off.) Perhaps you’re even feeling a little disgusted with yourself and your inability to control your eating and your weight. You feel like no matter what you try, it’s not going to work.” Remember, you’re not judging their behavior, rather you are describing their experience as it currently is. This means you have to understand their experience as it currently is. You have to know your audience and what they are thinking. As the great copywriting legend Robert Collier said, you have to “join the conversation that is already taking place in the reader’s mind.” “A” is for AMPLIFY The next step is to amplify the consequences of not solving the problem. This is really the key to making sales, and it is probably the most neglected step in the process. What will motivate people to buy your product, invest in your service, or accept your idea is usually not the beautiful outcome framed in a positive light. It is rather, realizing the cost of not attaining that outcome. In other words: what is it costing them to not solve this problem? When I’m writing copy about a business improvement program, for instance, I may have the reader walk through a simple exercise like this:  “Write down your average monthly income over the last 12 months. Then write down what you want your average monthly income to be. Let’s say that your average income is $5000 per month, and your goal is actually to make $15,000 per month in your business. That means the “gap” between where you are and where you want to be is $10,000 per month. You’re paying a cost of $10,000 every month you don’t solve this problem.” “S” is for STORY and SOLUTION  Once you have described the problem, and amplified the consequences of not solving it, it’s time to share the story of how the problem can be solved. This will be different depending on your situation. It might be the story of how you yourself finally solved this persistent problem. It might be the story of how you helped a client or customer discover the solution on their own. It does need to be more than simply a description of what the solution is: telling the story of Bob, the frustrated business owner who was on the edge of bankruptcy, whose family had lost faith in him, and who, out of desperation tried one last idea that saved his business… is infinitely more powerful than simply saying, “One day, Bob figured out the answer.” It should go without saying, but I will say it just in case: the story must absolutely be true. Don’t make these things up. And if you’re thinking, “But what if there is no story?” I would suggest you just haven’t looked closely enough. There is always a story to tell. “T” is for TRANSFORMATION and TESTIMONY The next key step in writing your copy is to remember that whatever you’re selling, whether it’s a home study program, a book, a seminar, your consulting services… anything at all… what people are buying is not the “stuff”, it’s the transformation. When people buy the P90X workout program, they did not wake up one morning and say to themselves, “I sure hope today somebody tries to sell me a bunch of DVDs and a wall chart.”  Those things (the DVD’s, charts, etc) are the “stuff”. What buyers of P90X are actually purchasing is that lean, healthy, youthful physique they want for themselves. The transformation. It’s also important that you offer testimony, real-life stories of people who have made the transformation that you are teaching, and who have done so successfully. Study the most successful infomercials, and you'll discover that they consist of about 70% testimonials. And while most of us will not be writing infomercials, it’s important to remember there are three questions people are asking when you sell them coaching, consulting, or instruction about anything. The questions are: Has this person been able to do what they are describing for themselves? Has this person been able to teach other people to achieve the results they are describing? Will this person be able to teach me how to achieve these results? “O” is for OFFER So far, you have defined the problem, clarified the cost of not solving it, told the story of the solution, and helped your reader visualize the transformation through testimonials from others just like themselves. Now is the time to describe exactly what you are offering for sale. This is the section of your copy where you lay out your offer. You can even create a subheading for the section called something clever like, “Here’s Exactly What You Get”. Make certain that you focus 80% of your copy on the transformation itself. You do have to talk about the deliverables (the class schedule, the DVDs, etc.), but that should only occupy about 20% of your copy in this section. Just remember that as you describe the deliverables in the offer section, you must keep tying them back to the transformation and benefits your buyers will receive.  So instead of simply writing that the buyer will receive “8 DVDs, each containing a 45 minute workout session”, you might instead write that they will receive “8 DVDs that each contain a body-sculpting, fat-burning transformational work out that will help you craft the lean muscle you really want.” “R” is for RESPONSE This is one of the areas where copy tends to often be the weakest: the response request. We are asking the customer to buy. At this point, you should not be shy about making this request. You should tell the customer exactly what to do in order to get your program, your consulting, your book, etc. You should remind them why it’s important o do so. I often write copy similar to this: “You're at the point of decision. You can either continue down the path of least resistance, the path you have already been traveling, or you can choose the road less traveled. The path of least resistance will probably result in you getting the same outcomes you’ve always received. But if you want something different to happen, if you want to change the direction of your health (or your relationships, or your finances, etc.) you’re going to have to do something different. Make a new choice, and pursue your new outcome.” And then I will write very specific, directive copy telling them exactly what to do next: “Click the button below, fill out the order form, and we will immediately ship your entire package to you. It will contain everything you need to get started.” Some people shy away from strong language like this, but the fact is, if you truly believe that you have a solution that will solve a problem for people, why on earth would you not be as direct as possible in telling them how to get that solution? In fact, aren’t you doing them a disservice by not making the strongest case possible? My suggestion is that you use this framework to write or rewrite your sales copy. The key to making this approach to writing sales copy successful is the having the mindset of being a “pastor”. If you apply the principles of being a shepherd to your readers, and you follow the sequence of the P.A.S.T.O.R formula, my prediction is you will experience more sales, more profits, and more happy customers… more often.  What To Do Now Steps you can take to put this week's episode content to work for you: Split-test elements of your daily life and habits.
