Earl Thomas was born into a musical family in rural Tennessee and grew up in a house brimming with music. His father was a bluesman and his mother was a gospel singer, so music is in his veins. He stumbled into the music industry by accident, which led to a vibrant 30-year career that is steeped in African American tradition and culture. His music is a potent mix of the traditional and contemporary gospel, expressed in an impressive music catalogue. As a singer songwriter, his music – deeply rooted in the blues and gospel – is infused with contemporary sensibilities of rock, soul, and rhythm & blues. Thomas' latest production, after a three-year hiatus, is all vintage gospel or what the singer says is “the music I was meant to do.” His mother always said that he was a gospel singer and now he is finally performing songs that have been, for decades, the soundtrack of African American culture and history and the backbone of the blues. HAHAHAHA OK, OK...we're just a bunch of professional musicians with pretty diverse backgrounds who decided to take on a pretty big challenge and have some fun in the process. Now, you might ask, “Oh yeah? Professional musicians, eh? What makes you think you can play Frank's music as well as [insert Zappa family/band member here]?” Well, maybe you haven't heard of us individually, but "we're pretty good musicians" and you probably have heard of the folks on our resumes: BB King, Mick Fleetwood, Vinnie Colaiuta, Googoosh, Dweezil Zappa, LA Philharmonic, Arthur Barrow, Munich Philharmonic, Bryan Beller, Popa Chubby, Yo Yo Ma, Limelight: A Tribute To Rush, Pinetop Perkins, Chicago Lyric Opera, Madison Opera, blah blah blah....you get the idea. As for Frank's music, he was constantly changing things, both for his own creative choices and to adapt to the different musicians he had over the years. He also understood that his live performances were entertainment: it's supposed to be a rock show, not a piano recital. With all that in mind, we don't think playing Song X from Album Y note-for-note while staring at our shoes is the proper way to go about this. The result of that approach (combined with a lot of homework) is a show that pays respect to Zappa's legacy, but is also new and different and dangerous and FUN, with lots of eyebrows. Kinda like Frank. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/somethingcame-from-baltim/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/somethingcame-from-baltim/support

It is basically a song expressing the desire to actually be in a relationship with someone, with all the perks that come with that.”Until “Cuff,” he also hadn't written a song where the theme is wanting to be in a relationship — to cuff. That said, this song doesn't have any double entendres.“No double meanings,” he said, and that applies to the clean, radio cut as well as the explicit one.Kiss on them lips be how I make you wetterCrossing the finish we'll do it togetherBody a canvas I'm painting it vividTalking is cheap so I paid you a visit“Cuff is like a slang for getting together. It doesn't even have to be on a sexual level, it could just be personal, having to do with wanting to set expectations and walk into something official,” he said.In either version, “Cuff” is an easy listening, swinging R&B number in which Penny puts his smooth voice to a soulful melody that is very different from his previous work, which was a lot of streetwise hip-hop and rap — more edge than R&B.His earlier output had the pounding beats and flow of the street. “Cuff” has the soft, rhythmic melodies of the bedroom and the interaction between lovers.Penny is a Coloradoan transplanted to Anchorage, Alaska, where he moved to be near family and for opportunity.“I've been doing music for a while. I officially started releasing music on platforms with professional engineering, and mixing in 2019, but I was learning myself as an artist, trying to find my lane and what fits me the best, and I think with ‘Cuff' I found it. This is the version of me that's ready to be out there worldwide. I regard this as my first official release.”Even in his edgy days, his work had some unique touches. The love-gone-wrong motif of “Favorite,” for instance, also had some Christian themes of forgiveness, which he said is a big part of his music.“I would say my earlier self was more of me having fun being confident and whatever it is that I was trying to do.”But, he said, he turned away from that route in favor of a more R&B vibe“I'm more in touch with the R&B side because it is just so relatable. Everybody goes through some sort of relationship, and things aren't perfect — ever. I felt like there's a chance for me to speak on things that may be hard for other people to put into words.”“Cuff” represents yet one more milestone in his career. “I'm proud to say that I wrote it all myself, and it blows me away that people who have had a chance to hear it are really impressed by the structure and the writing,” he said. The video also drops on June 5. His previous catalogue, which has a lot of fine hip-hop, will stay up as a kind of history of his music.“Cuff” will be the lead single on another six-track EP he will release sometime in the next year. The working title is The Butterfly Effect. He is working hard toward his goal of gaining a million listeners by the end of this year or in early 2025. He and his production team spend about six or seven hours on every song, playing with various mixes before mastering, working toward having something to show to big labels. He had a show recently, in May, and will be doing shows throughout June. In October, he will be the headline at one of Anchorage's premier entertainment clubs, Koots. He wants his music to reach a mass audience, and, he said, “I want ‘Cuff” to be heard by everyone. I want it to be reached by masses of people. That's why I put it out in a clean version as well as an explicit one — just giving the option.”He said that, as an artist, “you have to gravitate toward what you are, who you are.”And with his sound, he said, “I am ready to grow.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/creator-to-creators-with-meosha-bean--4460322/support.

Now the hip-hop/R&B artist feels that he is putting out some of his best materialyet, with his single “If I Said I Had the Answers, Would You Listen” set to be released on hisbirthday, February 27.His newest song is an R&B track that will be complete with a music video featuring himself and his girlfriend “Wolves.” It captures the essence of love and being in a relationship, and Apollo Liberace said it is melodic, while also featuring a little bit of rap and indie vibes. “The song is talking about everything you go through in a relationship,” he said. “The main lyrics are, ‘so cry alone, or you can cry on me if you want to.' Just talking about two different people in a relationship. It's displaying all the emotions you go through when you're happy together. If youlove somebody it's never going to always be great. It's really who you're with, to argue with, therest of your life.” Also in the works is a single titled “Paradise,” featuring Tyla Yaweh, who has worked with the likes of Post Malone, Chris Brown and Wiz Khalifa. Down the line, Apollo Liberace has plans to create an EP. He said the first song is mostly R&B, but others will feature him on acoustic guitar with a more “indie-folk” feel. “It's a lot different than what I've done before,” he said. “I think it's the best music I've made. It's real and full of emotion, with different stories.”Apollo Liberace uses life experiences as his source of inspiration when making music. Thisincludes the travel he has done, relationships he has been in, heartbreaks and success alongthe way. The more you do in life, the more your brain expands,” he said. “And once it expands, it doesn'tgo back. It changes it in every way. Once you see outside the country, you realize how big theworld is. It definitely influences all of it.”Apollo Liberace started his musical journey at a young age, singing in the church choir and atyouth camps. He wrote and recorded his first song when he was 10-years-old while living in SanAntonio, Texas. He followed in the footsteps of his older sister, who was producing records andperforming. When Apollo Liberace was 12 he had already found success while workingalongside his sister, singing originals along with covers of the Jackson 5 and James Brownbefore turning to the hip-hop scene. When he was 15 he moved to South Korea due to his parents being on military assignment. While there, he performed as the opening act in the G-Unit Far East Tour, and was eventuallysigned by Korea Def Jam Far East.He moved back to the San Antonio where he had a song on the radio at the age of 17, andperformed at events with thousands of people every weekend. After a stint in Atlanta and thenmoving to Los Angeles, Apollo's hip-hop trio Minus Gravity was signed by Capitol Records andhad success making music. The group split ways after about a decade together, which he said was hard because they were friends he had known since he was a kid. But since then, things have been taking off for Apollo Liberace. He is not only working on putting out new music, but will also be on a Paramount Plus television show with TV personality Chanel West Coast coming out this summer.“Things just started falling out of the sky for me,” he said. “I've got so many things in the works.”The namesake of Apollo Liberace pays homage to the Greek god of music, and also theeccentricity and flashiness of legendary pianist Liberace. He can relate to both, as his style is abit different than the average person, but also has some edge.“I really liked his story and his showmanship, basically,” he said. “So I combined those twothings.” Apollo Liberace loves the pure creativity that making music brings to his life. For a long time he was creating what he thought other people would enjoy, but now he is making music for himselfand he feels that it is top tier. Apollo Liberace is focused on making “true art.”“There are limitless possibilities,” he said. “Whatever you think of, and then seeing the outcomeand being able to hear what you did with the rhythm is always inspiring. There's always magic toit, just being able to create.” He added, “I think that's what music is: convergence of different feelings and different energies. What I put into the mic or the studio that day, I think that will come out. I hope people catch those same moods and feelings, and I think they will with this new music, for sure.” Be sure to check out Apollo Liberace's music available on all platforms.

In this episode we delve into the intricate relationship between music and cultural de-evolution within the black community. Is it time we stop using slavery as a reason for the gratuitous violence and grotesque promiscuity plaguing generations of black Americans? Are these aspects of hip hop culture worthy of the celebration we give it? We dive deep into song lyrics to trace the coinciding affect the most popular songs of any given decade had on our current state of "black culture". ------------------Join us at the G3 conference - REGISTER HEREUse discount code: G3BB for 20% off Support the showPlease Rate & Comment!Hosts: Brandon and Daren SmithWebsite: www.blackandblurred.comPatreon: www.patreon.com/blackandblurredYouTube: Black and Blurred PodcastIG: @BlackandBlurredPodcastTwitter: @Blurred_Podcast
