For fifty years, Hal Jackson's Talented Teens International has assisted several young women of color pursue higher education thanks to yearly awarded scholarships. Their events impacted over 30,000 participants.Talented Teen alumni include award winning actresses Taraji P. Henson, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Jada Pinkett Smith,, Michelle Thomas ( (Family Matters, YRL), former U.S. Ambassador Suzan Johnson Cook, the Honorable NY State Supreme Court Justice Tanya Kennedy as well as Tai Jimenez, Director of The Dance Theater of Harlem.The legacy of Hal Jackson and Talented Teens International will be celebrated on Thursday, November 9th, 2023,  8 pm ET with a 50th anniversary fundraiser for the organization, a night of Soulful R&B Live! The event will take place at the Bergen PAC, located at 30 N Van Brunt St, Englewood, NJ. He was given a Pioneer Award by the Rhythm and Blues Foundation in 2003. In October 2010 he was named a "Giant in Broadcasting" by the Library of American Broadcasting. Rodney Block/Trumpeter, a Dumas, Arkansas native has been thriving in the regional music scene for the past ten years. Block has been featured and performed in various festivals and venues across the globe ranging from corporate to social and has built a niche in the genres of jazz and hip hop. He credits his musical skills to the late Lawanna Hunt-Walker of Dumas, the minister of music at his hometown church, West Dumas Church of God in Christ. Block's engagements range from dive bars to black-tie fundraisers, sometimes within the same day. Ivan Hampden Jr. , Founder and President/CEO of Hamptown Music Institute, was born and raised in New York City, and grew up in Harlem's musically diverse neighborhoods to the rhythms of R&B, Salsa, Caribbean, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Funk and whatever else trickled in. This saturation of music inspired Hampden to start playing the drums at the age of eight, with the local Catholic school marching band. By age 13, he was playing in local clubs in and around New York City, with Blues musicians who helped instill in him a sense of timing and groove. The musical diversity of his early youth set the foundation for Hampden's future work with percussion and keyboards. Hampden started his formal training in 1973, studying at the Jazz Mobile with Charlie Percep, and at Mannes College of Music with Norman Grossman. He went on to attend Bronx Community College in 1977, where he received private lessons at the Metropolitan Opera with Richard Horowitz. During his first semester at Bronx Community College, a friend told him about the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Hampden had to be involved and joined the orchestra—a position he still holds today. While at the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Hampden was also a drum and percussion instructor at the Harlem School of the Arts, and at Seton Hall University in the Black Music Department. But his talent reached far beyond Harlem. Hampden has touched and enhanced the New York theater community as well, performing for various shows on Broadway, The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and many more.. Not only an accomplished drummer and percussionist, Hampden is also a producer and songwriter who collaborates with such artists as Luther Vandross, Nick Ashford, Chaka Khan, Eartha Kitt, and many others. Along with being Luther Vandross' drummer and co-writing partner for 17 years (which earned him recognition four(4)times from the Grammy Awards as a Musician, Arranger and Programmer on a number of Vandross's platinum recordings) until the time of the consummate musician's death , Hampden currently records and tours with other notable artists such as Stephanie Mills, Ashford & Simpson, Roberta Flack, Phil Perry, Vanessa Williams and Jennifer Lopez. In 2001, Hampden relocated to the south, where he continues to write and produce in between touring around the country and world. In fall 2007, Hampden signed on as an adjunct professor at North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina, teaching recording production I and II, and audio postproduction. National recording artist and saxophonist Dee Lucas has been noted as the hardest working indie artist in contemporary jazz while steadily growing his brand and fan base beginning with Remembrance in 2004.  Thereafter, it has been a steady showcase of unique stylings with Something to Ride 2 (2007), Standing Room Only (2010), Rebirth of the Smooth (2012), The Smooth Factor (2014), Going Deeper (2016), The Sweet Spot (2017), Going Left (2018), and the critically-acclaimed The Time Is Now (2020).“The Time Is Now” marked his his 9th worldwide release and is arguably considered his best work to date.  It features some of the brightest producers and special guest artists in Adam Hawley, Blake Aaron, Darryl Williams, David P. Candace A. Gray (aka Candy Fox) was born and raised in Memphis and has always lived a double life. She's a Gemini and she's always operated well in both left and right brain spaces. Candace's mother (RIP) always told her to never rely on ONE thing to sustain you...and that concept has remained with her since high school! Candace is marketing and communications professional by day...and a singer/songwriter by night (hence the stage name Candy Fox). She sings mostly Soul Music, which is native to Memphis. And as the Founder and CEO of CG Comms Group, Candace serves several local clients who make Memphis what it is from cultural, economic and artistic perspectives. Throughout her communications career, Candace has worked in the private (archer malmo, inc.) and public (FedEx) sector, for-profit and non-profit (Freedom Prep Charter Schools). In true Memphis spirit, she started my own full-service, boutique communications agency, DURING THE PANDEMIC! And she's seen much success, as a result of a great work ethic and referrals! Throughout her music career, Candy Fox has sung with some of the best in the business, from R&B and Soul to Blues to Gospel, to Hip Hop, including 8Ball & MJG, Al Kapone, Charrelle & Alexander O'Neal, Howard Hewett and Shalamar, Jennifer Holliday, Richard Smallwood, Kurt Carr, Chico DeBarge, The Legendary Barkays, and the list goes on. Candy Fox also released her own project, Soul Stir, independently after leaving the Hip Hop collective Free Sol, who won the Mid-South Grammy Showcase in 2004 and released the album 11:11 on Memphis Records. Soul Stir, a true work of art, is available on all electronic platforms.
