CBS News president Wendy McMahon has stepped down from her post as tensions escalate over ongoing Paramount Global-Trump settlement talks. With the deal already under scrutiny from senators, what’s in store for Shari Redstone's Skydance merger? Kim Masters and Matt Belloni dive into this and more major media shake-up stories. Plus, Masters talks to director Matt Wolf about Pee-wee as Himself, which looks beyond the iconic character to the complicated man who created him. The two-part series draws from more than 40 hours of Wolf’s interviews with Paul Reubens, who spent much of his life guarding his privacy. The filmmaker also explains how those conversations revealed Reubens’ inner conflicts and why HBO pushed for more when it came to telling the late actor’s story.

Ever said, “No worries, it's fine,” when it absolutely wasn't fine? Or maybe you've pushed down your needs and shape-shifted into whoever you thought you needed to be in a particular situation. That's not kindness. That's fawning—people-pleasing's sneakier, brain-based cousin. In this episode, neuroscientist and author of Rewire, Nicole Vignola, joins me for a juicy, no-fluff convo about why we fawn, what's going on in the brain when we do it, and how to unhook from this exhausting survival pattern. Nicole shares real talk from her own relationships, where she caught herself over-functioning, then said the magic word: “Enough.” Expect science, self-awareness, and some serious permission to want more. Nicole creates a practical de-fawning practice to help you shift out of appeasement and into enoughness. We kick things off with a little warm-up game I almost edited out… but didn't. Come play enoughness ping pong with us and feel instantly more human. Tune in now. Because “fine” is officially cancelled. Links: Nicole Vignola's website and book. Nicole on Instagram.

Among the topics covered: How recent revelations about USAID expose the agency's absurd, if not malicious, activities; Why Rand viewed foreign aid and its justification in the name of “the public interest” as morally corrupt; The continuing relevance of Rand's critique of the altruistic premises underlying arguments for foreign aid; How an unprincipled foreign policy has failed to protect America's interests abroad and wasted its resources; The role of foreign aid in a proper, pro-American foreign policy. Zeitgeschichte erleben.

Send us a textOn the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Inside Geneva has some big questions about the US-Russia talks this week on ending the war in Ukraine.“Is this really a peace deal or is it just a deal about money? Or is it even some kind of capitulation or a power grab?” asks Inside Geneva host Imogen Foulkes. What does US President Donald Trump want?“Do you want to just stop the war, or do you want to win it? We don't know what President Trump would consider a win. One suspects it's a win that would be purely transactional in US interests,” says Nick Cumming-Bruce, contributor for the New York Times.Who will have to make sure that peace is sustainable?“The US will take the decisions together with Russia, with Putin, but who is going to do the real work afterwards? It is Europe,” adds Gunilla von Hall, correspondent for Svenska Dagbladet. How can negotiations even take place without Ukraine?“We will never be able to talk about peace and sustainable peace as long as the Ukrainians are not involved, because the grievances will remain,” says Laurent Sierro, journalist at the Swiss News Agency Keystone-ATS. These are tough questions for the US, Europe and Ukraine. And what about the United Nations – does it have a role at all? Join us on Inside Geneva to find out.Get in touch! If so, is it hidden "Nazis" or those openly advocating for fascism?

In 1938 wist de Engelse premier Chamberlain het zeker. Een onafhankelijk land was opgeofferd, maar de vrede was geregeld. Het lijkt alsof de geschiedenis zich herhaalt. Liubov Velychko is a Ukrainian investigative journalist with over 15 years of experience uncovering corruption, crime, and human rights violations. She Specializes in exposing disinformation campaigns, and has conducted numerous investigations into Russian propaganda, revealing the networks behind its spread and dismantling the information operations orchestrated by Russian intelligence agencies. ---------- At relatively short notice, we're organising two events in Ukraine in the last week of January. Lviv (part 2) and Kyiv. The event we ran in August 2023 was a huge success, and had a great impact. Now our aim is even more ambitious. Two cities. Two events. Multiple panels consisting of the best experts, and all filmed in high definition for the channel. https://buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain/extras But it costs. Last time the overall cost was £3,500 for Live in Lviv, and we covered 80% of this through ticket sales. This time the costs are higher, and there's less opportunity to sell tickets at the available venues and studios, so I'm creating a campaign to raise £5,000 to make this trip a reality. We also have a much more ambitious programme to film interviews around Kyiv and Lviv for the channel. After almost three years of outright war, and almost four months since Ukrainian troops launched a lightning offensive into the Russian region of Kursk, there are now real doubts about how long Ukraine can continue the fight. Russian advances continue in both Kursk and in the south, and Russian missile and drone attacks are hitting Ukraine infrastructure hard. Then there is the Trump factor. The US president elect promising he would end the war 'in a day' if elected, with strategists and analysts trying to work out frantically want that means. A deal maybe, but in whose favour? What is the future for this conflict in the region? Philip Clark is joined on Nightlife by Paul Dibb AM, an Emeritus Professor at the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the ANU. He is also a Former Deputy Secretary of Defence and Director of the Defence Intelligence Organisation. Joined by Shashank Joshi, Defence Editor with The Economist since 2018 who has been writing on the conflict since it began.

2024-09-01 | There is no end in sight to the death and suffering that Russian is willing to unleash on Ukraine. In less than a week, 60 people have been killed by Russian strikes on Ukraine. ---------- Russian army strikes on numerous Ukrainian cities have killed dozens of civilians and left hundreds wounded. The single deadliest attack of the war to date was in the city of Poltava in central Ukraine. A Russian missile struck a military educational facility on Tuesday killed 53 people and left more than 270 injured, according to the Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry. Lviv has escaped the kind of destruction experiences by Kharkiv, Kherson and other cities. But on Wednesday the Russian World came to the western Ukrainian city of Lviv. Seven people, including a mother and her three daughters, were killed by Russian shelling and projectiles. More than 50 people were injured, with five adults in a serious condition. One of the most extraordinary and heartbreaking sights was the father of those girls, being helped from the burning building by rescuers. His face caked with dried blood, he is taken to one side, to await news of his family. He receives the worst news and his grief is palpable. How do you recover from that? What life awaits you, after losing all your bright and beautiful family in one go. What hope remains after Russian terrorism destroys your world, for no reason, out of malice and envy, greed and stupidity? ---------- Sources and recommended reading: https://novayagazeta.eu/articles/2024/09/04/no-end-in-sight-en https://kyivindependent.com/ukraine-war-latest-27/ https://kyivindependent.com/death-toll-of-poltava-attack-rises/ https://kyivindependent.com/as-ukrainian-children-return-to-school-russia-launches-missiles-at-educational-facilities/ https://kyivindependent.com/she-was-the-culture-kharkiv-mourns-18-year-old-artist-killed-in-russian-attack/ https://www.kyivpost.com/opinion/38452 https://kyivindependent.com/lithuanian-fm-west-chose-to-be-caught-off-guard-by-russia/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xc1zRzICjfk https://www.kyivpost.com/post/38459 https://kyivindependent.com/ukraines-deep-drone-strikes-aim-to-break-russias-war-machine-sow-discontent/ https://www.kyivpost.com/post/38440 https://kyivindependent.com/germany-orders-17-iris-t-air-defense-systems-for-ukraine-sholz-says/ ---------- SUPPORT THE CHANNEL: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/siliconcurtain https://www.patreon.com/siliconcurtain ---------- TRUSTED CHARITIES ON THE GROUND: Save Ukraine https://www.saveukraineua.org/ Superhumans - Hospital for war traumas https://superhumans.com/en/ UNBROKEN - Treatment.
