Welkom bij Gamekings Daily, een gaming vodcast waarin twee presentatoren van Gamekings aanschuiven om de laatste ontwikkelingen in de wereld der videogames door te nemen. Hoewel ze nog moeten bijkomen van het feest van afgelopen weekend, zitten Skate en JJ klaar met het laatste nieuws. Het is een Gamekings Daily met een tintje Peepshow: heftige ontwikkelingen bij nieuwe games en het sluiten van een befaamde studio. Plus natuurlijk Crimson Desert, dat de gemoederen flink bezighoudt. Zo is er online veel onenigheid over de kwaliteit van het spel. Dit weekend verschenen er vanuit de studio anonieme signalen dat de ontwikkeling niet van een leien dakje ging. Voor iedereen die zat te hopen op een nieuwe Tom Clancy game in de stijl van de oude Rainbow Six, Splinter Cell of Ghost Recon games... die droom wordt (in ieder geval bij Red Storm Entertainment) voorlopig geen werkelijkheid. Ubisoft heeft de studio gesloten.Was Crimson Desert wel klaar voor een officiële release?Met meer dan 2 miljoen verkochte exemplaren is het releaseweekend van Crimson Desert een succes. Dat wil niet zeggen dat er veel om het spel te doen is. De reviews zijn ook erg gemengd qua mening en cijfer. Te midden van al die chaos komen nu enkele developers anoniem naar buiten om te verhalen over de problemen achter de schermen. Wat blijkt? De verhaallijn is gerushed om de release te halen, leidinggevenden stapten op en mensen durfden intern geen kritiek te geven. Dit heeft volgens hen zijn weerslag gekregen in het eindresultaat.  Wat is er precies aan de hand? En hoe heftig is het?Red Storm Entertainment, de maker van vele Tom Clancy games, door Ubisoft geslotenRed Storm Entertainment, dat heeft gewerkt aan het gros van de Tom Clancy games, is niet meer. In this podcast our guest is a legend of the Submarine Service. He is Doug Littlejohns, who had a remarkable career in the Royal Navy, both as a submarine captain and in command of an intelligence-gathering warship during the Cold War. Across a fascinating podcast discussion with our host Iain Ballantyne, we hear from Doug about his exciting time on the famed Perisher submarine command course; daring surveillance missions against Russian naval vessels in the diesel submarine HMS Osiris; how he brought the badly damaged nuclear-powered attack submarine HMS Sceptre (and that boat's crew) back to fighting efficiency. Doug also relates how, after reading Tom Clancy's novel ‘The Hunt for Red October' during a visit to the USA, he met the blockbuster author and ended up inspiring a character in the master story-teller's next bestseller, ‘Red Storm Rising'. Revealed also are Doug's adventures in command of the Type 22 frigate HMS London, which included forcing a Russian submarine to surface and staging a mock funeral to prank a shadowing Soviet surface ship (both in the Baltic). Doug and HMS London also went eyeball-to-eyeball with the Iranians in the Arabian Gulf during the Tanker War. Doug reveals how he introduced a special premiere of the Hollywood movie of the ‘Hunt for Red October' in London and, after leaving the Navy, worked with Clancy. They founded the famous computer games firm Red Storm Entertainment, becoming pioneers of strategy and also tactical-shooter genres, via ‘Rainbow Six' and others.
