It's official! Ubisoft has announced that it's begun work on a Splinter Cell remake at its Ubisoft Toronto studio. The Toronto studio explains that the team considers this a remake – and not a remaster – due to the fact that they're rebuilding it from the ground up and taking inspiration both from the original games as well as modern titles. Not much else is known at this stage, but we're sure to hear more in the coming months.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Ubisoft has announced that it has greenlit the development of a remake of its stealth classic, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Announced on Ubisoft's website, the remake will be developed by lead studio Ubisoft Toronto, the developers of Splinter Cell: Blacklist. It will be built from the ground up using the Snowdrop engine, which is the tech being used for The Division games, the upcoming Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora game, and Ubisoft's as-yet-untitled Star Wars game. STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl developer GSC Game World has announced that its upcoming sequel will be supported by a range of linked NFTs when it launches in 2022. While details surrounding the majority of these have yet to be shared yet, the studio has revealed information about one specific NFT which will come will allow the owner to become the "first-ever metahuman", AKA an NPC in the game. GSC Game World has announced the STALKER Metaverse will use blockchain technology to let the community own a piece of STALKER 2. Guy Beahm, known online as Dr Disrespect, is launching a new AAA studio called Midnight Society. Working alongside former Call of Duty and Halo developers, the new studio is taking a "community approach to game development" that plans to involve players and influencers at all stages of development. In a press release, we learned that Beahm co-founded the studio with industry veterans Robert "fourzerotwo" Bowling and Quinn DelHoyo, along with support from esports entrepreneur Sumit Gupta. The studio is still starting up, as they are currently hiring for many positions. Narz has all that in your Daily Fix!

Ubisoft’s community content team helps the gaming company’s community developers and managers by creating polished content, inspired by and sometimes derived from the community. After spending time as a community developer himself, Zack Cooper was tapped to start this team, and has led it for the last 3 and a half years. We discuss: How the community content team benefits the community team Zack’s favorite stories of content that has come from the community If this model could make sense in other industries Our Podcast is Made Possible By… If you enjoy our show, please know that it’s only possible with the generous support of our sponsor: Open Social. Big Quotes “I am absolutely in love with community creations as a whole. I think it’s important that, as a community team, we create an environment that allows people to share written word on a forum, Reddit post, tweets, whatever it may be. Art is such a wonderful form of expression. We see that in fan art. We see that in cosplay… If we can prop up an artist and showcase some of their work, provide them with a wider range of eyeballs, that’s a great thing.” – @Z_Cooperstown “The mission [of community developers in gaming] is always to ensure that the development process is humanized and that people understand that games aren’t made in a vacuum by robots, that it is real people [working on them].” – @Z_Cooperstown “[Having an in-house community content team] speaks to flexibility and affordability. It allows us to ensure that our productions are indeed completed with the passion that we hope to get from the community, as well. The team that I lead is filled with people who also play and love games, so they’re familiar with what it is that we are doing. This ensures that we’re able to look at it through the lens of the player.” – @Z_Cooperstown About Zack Cooper Zack Cooper is community content lead at Ubisoft, working with their community teams around the world to help tell great stories. He started at Ubisoft Toronto in March of 2012, fresh off the birth of his first daughter, following an 11-year career in radio broadcasting. Zack was a reporter, talk show host, and sports anchor, while hosting a video game show on the side. He appreciates quality and creative storytelling and has a passion for music, both of which help maintain sanity amid all the stresses of everyday life. Victor's Final Push will inspire you to use the energy that you have right now – you won’t have it forever! Quotes: “The important thing is to start doing it. Once you’re doing it, you can learn from your mistakes and improve on top of that.” “I don’t think you choose a style. I think it’s a reflection of how you see life and how you see your work, and it happens organically.” “For me, my personal work is like a detox.” Links mentioned: Nicolás Uribe Ross Tran The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles by Steven Pressfield Manage Your Day-to-Day: Build Your Routine, Find Your Focus, and Sharpen Your Creative Mind by Jocelyn K. Ubisoft says video games will become more immersive than the Holodeck For gamers in 1987, the Enterprise-D represented not so much an amazing achievement in starship engineering, but rather the ultimate console. Forget about staring at pixels on a television and tapping away at a control pad. On the Holodeck, you can dress up and actually live the adventure. It may seem far-fetched—even today—but Ubisoft Toronto managing director Jade Raymond believes this is the future of the gaming. In fact, she thinks it will be even more immersive.
