Before voting on the makeup of the Floresville Economic Development Corp. board May 13, Floresville City Council members received an update on the city's economic development. Courtland Holman, who began serving as the corporation's executive director April 7, reported that he has been busy “creating processes for development.” “I have been meeting people — especially downtown — talking to real estate brokers, and changing some contractors,” he said. Holman explained that he urged the FEDC board to “dismiss” its contract with The Retail Coach, after he asked for current information from the retail recruitment company and the latest he received...Article Link
[Video below] Floresville Economic Development Corp. (FEDC) board members talked positively April 24 about a different company to assist them in attracting commercial development for the city. The corporation has been “partnering” with The Retail Coach for about 16 years. However — although board members took no action at their meeting on contracting with another company — their discussion of Retail Strategies seemed to favor that company. Both companies compile data, offer analysis, identify opportunities, and help with marketing and networking to recruit retailers. The FEDC's new executive director, Courtland Holman, previously recommended that the board terminate its agreement with...Article Link
[Video below] Floresville will soon have another hamburger restaurant for customers to choose. “Wendy's is going to come,” Floresville Economic Development Corp. (FEDC) Executive Director Ben Reed said at the corporation's special May 15 meeting. “It will be the first Wendy's of its nature in Texas. I'm really excited.” Although Reed offered no information on the timing or location, the disclosure of a Wendy's franchise in Floresville provides the city corporation with another economic development to celebrate. FEDC board members decided at the same meeting to stick with The Retail Coach — the retail consulting, market research, and development firm...Article Link

Okay, you're not alone if you started your business so you could design your schedule and live the life you want. But what do you want? Are you getting it yet?Pete Mohr is a small town retailer, podcaster, and the retail coach behind Simplifying Entrepreneurship. He is sharing what it takes to get what you want by aligning and assigning accountability. Are you looking for remote access? Or just less hands on in the day to day so you can make that hokey game or spend more time with your family? Everyone's needs and drives to access more freedom and flexibility are different, but if you're a retailer and you're feeling overworked, there is work that can be done to get you there.Pete, during our conversation, brought up a powerful question. Is it the process you don't trust? Or is the person? Really get clarity on that because you either need to change and create a process you CAN trust or really consider why you have an employee working for you that you can't trust. As a retailer, Pete has the experience and the relatability to know what other retailers have gone through and are going through in their businesses. As a coach, he has the tools, like his 5 P Framework, to get you processes designed to access the freedom and flexibility you are searching for as a business owner.Alongside his business wisdom and his favorite resources, Pete also champions the endless uses for Chat GPT. If you are a retailer and you are not using this tool to save time, you are missing out.Don't be shy; let me know what freedoms you're going after! Since longtime host Jay Socol retired last spring, it's been a while since our last episode of All Up in Your Business. Due to popular demand, the podcast returns, but with a slightly different look. College Station Chief Development Officer Natalie Ruiz now co-hosts the program with Economic Development Manager Brian Piscacek to update us on business trends and the restaurants, retailers, industries, and events that might be coming to town. We'll produce a fresh podcast addressing various topics on a quarterly basis. In this discussion with Aaron Farmer of The Retail Coach, Natalie and Brian break down the evolution of local, regional, and national retail markets, along with the recent Economic Outlook Conference. They also address the challenges presented by continued inflation, supply chain issues, and staffing shortages. Aaron and Brian were rolling, so the episode ran longer than usual, but we think you'll find the discussion insightful and well worth your time. Today the tables are turned and I am the guest and my host is Vicki Weinburg. I was a guest on her podcast Bring Your Product Idea to Life and it was too juicy an episode not to share with you here. We chat about my top tips from developing and launching your brand, to how to grow and scale your business, and common mistakes to avoid. I share a range of excellent resources I know that you will want to investigate. Whether you are starting out, or looking to take the next step in your business, there are lots of takeaway actions in this episode. KEY TAKEAWAYS Nicole worked as buyer and head of buying for over 18 years for retailers such as Primark, MandS,Debenhams and George at Asda, gaining experience in buying, product development, strategy and leadership and global sourcing. In 2020 she established the Buyer and Retail Coach to help small businesses start and scale their product business and increase their sales and profits. From working with larger companies Nicole's advice is that if something doesn't work, and there will always be something that doesn't, you should fail fast and move on. The quicker you can find a solution and move on, the quicker you'll be able to bring in more money. You can then review why something didn't work. Understand your customer, without them you have no business. Don't ignore your older customer if your business changes, take them on the journey with you. A lot of new business owners try to do everything themselves. It's always a better idea to bring in someone with the skills you need or outsource that part of your business to someone who can do it better. When sourcing the three main questions you want to ask any supplier are what their minimum order quantity is, what their lead time is, and what their payment terms are. BEST MOMENTS ‘Know what you won't compromise on' ‘A lot more people are using Instagram and TikTok as search engines' ‘Look at where you need to be from a price point, rather than working it out from your cost price' ‘If you're not on TikTok, get yourself on there' EPISODE RESOURCES VICKI: https://www.facebook.com/groups/productcreatorsclub (Join my free Facebook group for product makers and creators) https://www.instagram.com/vickiweinberguk/ (Find me on Instagram) http://www.vickiweinberg.com (Work with me) USEFUL RESOURCES: FREE RESOURCE: https://thebuyerandretailcoach.com/questionstoasksuppliers/ (Questions to ask suppliers when starting your business) Brands and Resources mentioned: Adam Frisby - In The Style Katie Tucker | Market research | Author (@productjungle) • Instagram photos and videos Common Objective Alibaba.com Pantee https://mailchimp.com/en-gb (Mailchimp) Klaviyo https://www.launchrock.com/ (Launchrock) Fiona Minett - http://bossyourpr (Boss Your PR) Lucy Werner - Hype Yourself — The Wern (Hype Yourself) Entrepreneur & Press Hangout – LIGHTBULB | Facebook (Lightbulb Facebook Group) VALUABLE RESOURCES www.thebuyerandretailcoach.com www.instagram.com/thebuyerandretailcoach www.tiktok.com/@thebuyerandretailcoach https://thebuyerandretailcoach.com/newsletter-sign-up/ ABOUT THE HOST Buying & retail expert Nicole Higgins spent the last 18 years working for companies such as Primark, M&S, Debenhams and Asda, sourcing & developing products from all over the world, building strategies for blue chip businesses, and increasing bottom line sales and profit, adding over £40 million in incremental business to the bottom line. Today we are going to talk about the second half of the marketing funnel, which often gets forgotten, but can have a powerful impact on your business. Whether you've calculated cost per acquisition and customer lifetime value or not, I think we can all agree that selling to existing customers is easier than selling to a cold audience. Kristin is the Founder + CEO of the gifting brand, Bocu and a Retail Coach for Makers. With a profitable six-figure business + over 15 years of experience as a corporate retail Buyer, she is a retail industry expert on a mission to support other female entrepreneurs. Dreaming of starting your own fashion business? This week's episode of Start Scale Succeed is a recording of an Instagram live with Sinead Kearns from Arlo Blue. Tracy and Sinead chat about the why and the how of starting the brand and what made her go for it. Moving from a side hustle to the main focus, the challenges she faced and how she reacted and decisions she made. Listen in to find out about growing organically, Sinead's future plans for the brand as well as advice and tips for those starting out. KEY TAKEAWAYS Arlo Blue was founded because Sinead was finding it difficult to find basic pieces for her wardrobe. She wanted pieces that could be worn time and time again and avoiding having to throw away her cheap fast-fashion items that need replacing every few months. Arlo Blue's mission is to make it easy to find great quality white t-shirts that are going to last a long time. They do this through durable, quality and 100% cotton clothing. Four months into the business Sinead made over £1,000 in sales and was ecstatic about it. Her expectations weren't that high. It was also at that point of the business where she was getting good feedback and returning customers who wanted more styles than Arlo Blue currently had. There has been so much support for Arlo Blue that Sinead is planning to expand from womens t-shirts into also making a limited range of mens products. Sinead's advice for anyone wanting to go into business is just to do it, don't worry about making everything perfect. If you've done your research then you're ready to go. Perfection is procrastination. BEST MOMENTS ‘I ordered 80 t-shirts and I was petrified that they weren't going to arrive' ‘That person might just fall into your path' ‘Don't wait until it's perfect to start, it never will be' ‘It's much harder to grow on Instagram now, you have to be consistent' EPISODE RESOURCES Arlo Blue Arlo Blue on Instagram The Custom Crew on Instagram VALUABLE RESOURCES www.thebuyerandretailcoach.com www.instagram.com/thebuyerandretailcoach www.tiktok.com/@thebuyerandretailcoach https://thebuyerandretailcoach.com/newsletter-sign-up/ ABOUT THE HOST Buying & retail expert Nicole Higgins spent the last 18 years working for companies such as Primark, M&S, Debenhams and Asda, sourcing & developing products from all over the world, building strategies for blue chip businesses, and increasing bottom line sales and profit, adding over £40 million in incremental business to the bottom line. Is branding important for product based businesses? Absolutely! In fact, I think it may be even more important than branding for service providers (only slightly though). Why? Because you can buy stuff anywhere. Even if you have exclusive product, you do have competitors, and your brand is what creates relationships with your customers so they choose to buy from you. As a product based business your brand is defined by a combination of your content, your customer experience and your products. If you have defined and clarified your brand details you can make sure your content, experience and product are all on brand and creating the consistency necessary to grow your business. On this week's episode of The Consistency Corner podcast we talk with retail buying veteran, Kristin Fisher about branding your product assortment. Kristin Fisher is the Founder + CEO of the gifting brand, Bocu and a Retail Coach for Makers. I have known Tami Staker for years, and you're going to love this real and honest look into the toy retail business. A toy store owner who drops the F-bomb every now and then? Yes, and now you've been warned. For 12 years, Tami has run Whimzy in Albert Lea, Minnesota as a part-time business owner, while also working as a full-time employee of a Fortune 500 company. When she first purchased the store, it was branded as a party store, but the market was saturated. I mean, who wants to buy napkins at a specialty store when they can just pick them up at Walmart? She realized that the party store was not working for the town of 18,000, so she pivoted into something she loved. It's hard to walk out of a toy store unhappy, and that's the whole vibe that Tami embraces. Did the pandemic affect her business? Um, yes. Like a lot of small retailers, she had to get creative last year. But she was able to dig down deep and deliver the most EPIC Santa Claus experience for her town. Seriously, you're going to love how she served her community with fun during a crazy year. Her store's more than a toy shop; it's become a destination for families. Not only is Tami generous with her time today, but she's also offering a copy of Brendon Burchard's latest book for the first person to leave a comment. And while you're at it, give me a shout-out if you need a Clubhouse invite! I've got a few invitations available for listeners.
