254 Transforming Logistics by Engaging People Who Make Movement Happen with Todd Haselhorst, CEO & Founder of HEALE Labs, Miami, FL USA We love innovative companies seeking to elevate the participation of all people working in the supply chain; that is just what HEALE Labs is doing. With a deep-rooted passion for logistics, Todd Haselhorst has dedicated his career to revolutionizing the transportation industry. His innovative approach, fueled by knowledge gained in economics, game theory, and technology, has led him to found HEALE Labs. HEALE Labs tackles the $268 billion data coordination problem in logistics by leveraging open and decentralized networks. His perspective highlights the importance of timely solutions to optimize the middle mile of the shipping process and address the challenges of errors, fraud, and waste in the industry. But on a simplistic level, his approach demonstrates value in each critical stage of the transportation and delivery ecosystem. Here are some highlights from our chat: - Creating an open data infrastructure to connect systems and establish a master record can streamline coordination and reduce costs. - Incentivizing accurate data collection by workers and drivers through a reward system can minimize errors, theft, and waste, ultimately increasing profits. - Data Coordination in Logistics is crucial for solving data and shipment coordination issues by creating a master record with real-time information. - Using tokens as incentives for accurate data input and timely payments enhances the logistics process for shippers, brokers, carriers, and drivers. Todd Haselhorst is a serial entrepreneur and the CEO/Founder of logistics startup HEALE Labs. Born in Hays, Kansas, to an entrepreneurial family, he started his first business at 12 (a lawn and landscaping operation) and hasn't looked back. As an adult, Todd has built and exited several successful businesses including Auto Transport Plus (sold to NYSE-KAR) and CubeMonk, a transportation and labor marketplace for the logistics industry (sold to Cend). With HEALE, Todd created the first open architecture, a zero-trust blockchain protocol designed to make the shipment lifecycle more predictable, profitable, and sustainable. HEALE's tech stack reduces fraud, waste, and theft, making the lives of shippers, brokers, carriers, and drivers easier. This week Chris talks with Rachel Masing, People Director at ETM Group. The podcast episode highlights the importance of technology in enabling time-saving and engagement in the hospitality industry. The guest speaker discusses how utilising technology can lead to significant time savings, which in turn can result in increased efficiency and productivity. One aspect of time-saving discussed in the podcast is the ability of technology to streamline processes and automate tasks. Moreover, technology can also facilitate better communication and collaboration within the organisation. The guest speaker mentions the use of internal comms platforms that enable employees to interact with each other and share information across different venues and brands. This helps create a sense of community and breaks down silos, allowing employees to have a broader overview of the business and feel more connected to the company as a whole. In terms of engagement, the podcast highlights how technology can enhance employee engagement through features like reward and recognition systems. Jules and Jerome talk to Sasha Robinson, Head of People at Trainual, a company that codifies processes related to the people function of an enterprise, helping them to scale and grow, particularly around training and onboarding. Sasha has grown teams everywhere she's been, always paying attention to engagement and the best ways to meet employees where they are. This episode tracks Sasha's non-linear journey from working in a civil rights non profit organization to meeting someone who led her to her first role in the people function of a company. On the way to Trainual, Sasha learned the best ways to engage people and help them grow and develop. She tells us about being an empath and how this has always been an asset for listening to people and understanding them, and how it's also led to burnout, especially during the pandemic as suddenly so many more people were coming to her with their struggles. This was something that many of her peers in the people function were feeling at the time. Sasha learned how to depersonalize decisions in order to achieve a better balance in her work. She tells us how engagement has changed since 2020, the importance of balancing employee surveys with personalized conversations, activities, and the balance between in-person face time and online meetings. She also shares that storytelling has been instrumental in gaining a deeper understanding of where people are at, what they expect, and what they want or need. She tells us a story about an experience that has shaped who she is today, harking back to when she was just a teenager. A powerful story in which Sasha isn't afraid to be vulnerable, a great example of the power of a story to connect and relate to someone on a human level. If you're wondering how to scale the people function of your company, or if you're thinking about engagement strategies and tactics, this is a must-listen. On this episode of The Marketer's Journey, I interview Kelly Buchanan Spillers, CMO at Infor, a large organization with over $3 billion in revenue and 7,000 customers in 70 countries. The company was acquired by Koch Industries a number of years ago for a massive sum of $13 billion. Kelly came to Infor after leading digital marketing at L'Oreal, so she has a lot of insights to share about bringing B2C strategies into a B2B organization. Check out this and other episodes of The Marketer's Journey on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and Google Podcasts!Key takeaways from this episode:Always put the consumer first. Coming from a B2C background, Kelly started her role at Infor with the mindset that marketing teams should always be prioritizing the consumer's needs. Despite not having a set B2B playbook to work from, Kelly used her B2C background from L'Oreal to communicate with Infor's customers in a way that would resonate. Position your brand as a market expert. When it comes to carving out an authoritative position in the market, Kelly says she and the team at Infor have been focused on establishing the brand as high-level experts for specific industries. By communicating their expertise in certain niche areas, Infor has been able to set themselves apart from the competition and earn customers' trust.Go back to basics. Recently, Kelly and the team at Infor have been taking a more holistic approach to the brand, ensuring that their online presence is clean and consistent across the board. When she first started as CMO, one of the first tasks she and the team undertook was to clean up anything that could be diluting their brand equity, and create streamlined brand guidelines to protect the brand's image.Learn more about Infor here: https://www.infor.com/ Learn more about Kelly here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kellybuchanan/

Special Guest: Nick O'Donnell, Founder and CEO at The Spinning Plate During a 30-year management career which began at one of the most powerful brands in the world, The Walt Disney Company, Nick O'Donnell saw immediately the power and impact excellent coaching and mentoring has on a person. But it isn't everyone's cup of tea. Today, even though coaching is more widely accepted and used, it can still be hard work convincing people of the benefits of working with a coach. Nick has spent a great deal of his time working in Hospitality, and it is there that his coaching analogy and method of The Spinning Plate, has its origins. It's how he's managed to make the idea of coaching at all levels more relatable to people who may have previously been sceptical about it Today, Nick uses this approach to help individuals and teams to be more resilient, more self-confident and more trusting of their own and their collective capabilities to attack challenging situations. Right now, the Hospitality industry he loves is certainly facing challenging times where recruitment and retention are tough, so the outcomes Nick helps clients achieve have perhaps never been more important. Listen in to find out what the Spinning Plate methodology is, and how you can engage more people with the idea of coaching to grow. Host: Andy Goram Listen Live (Archive Available)

Cassandra Worthy: Change Enthusiasm Cassandra Worthy enables organizations and individuals to grow through major change and significant shift by harnessing the power of emotion. Whether undergoing a merger, acquisition, start-up, explosive growth, or significant contraction, the strategies and tools of Change Enthusiasm are motivating and energizing workforces worldwide. Her consulting firm was birthed from the pain and challenges she overcame as a corporate executive. Cassandra's client base spans the Fortune 500, including Procter & Gamble, Allstate, Jones Lang LaSalle, Centene Corporation, ConferenceDirect, and WeWork. She's a chemical engineer by training and also brings over a decade of M&A experience distilled down into the critical leadership traits required to lead with exception during times of change and trans-formation. She's the author of Change Enthusiasm: How to Harness the Power of Emotion for Leadership and Success*. In this conversation Cassandra and I explore the critical importance of emotion in the change process. We detail some of the critical places where leaders often miss opportunities to prioritize employee well-being. Then, Cassandra shares some practical steps leaders can take that will help employees better recognize signal emotions so they can eventually find opportunity and choice during the change process. Key Points Many leaders tend to diminish or ignore negative emotions during change. Actively doing that may prevent employees in getting to a place where they see opportunity — and eventually choice. Beware focusing too much attention on vision, roles, and responsibilities — and not enough on employee well-being and fulfillment. The change process is like driving in a car. The structure of the process is the vehicle itself and the people are their fuel. Have discussion about handling change a regular item in 1:1 agendas and team meetings. Leaders can enter into the opportunity that change provides by sharing their own emotions. One way to do this is to be explicit in conversation about what is genuinely inspiring you about the change. Storytellers in suicide prevention have the power to shift culture and change the world in ways other stakeholders are not able to do. Our “voices of insight” have influence and shape others' understanding on a deep level. People with lived experience seek to stand in solidarity with our research colleagues, policy champions and mental health professionals to embed our deep wisdom in a processes of partnership. In this podcast, I speak with the world renowned Bronwen Edwards, a global authority on the power of lived experience to drive large scale change in suicide prevention. We talk about how we can approach our partners — who may have different values, priorities and points of view — with “compassionate curiosity” so we can “collaborate the big collaboration” (instead of “fight the good fight”). About Bronwen EdwardsBronwen is the CEO of Roses in the Ocean, a national lived experience of suicide organisation that has spent the last decade building the capacity of people with lived experience to utilise their voice and insights to inform, influence and enhance suicide prevention, and the capacity of communities, organisations and government to meaningfully engage with them. Having advocated for non-clinical alternatives to traditional services for many years, Bronwen and Roses in the Ocean also work with communities to co-design new service models including safe spaces, develop and support the critical suicide prevention peer workforce, and continue to drive and support the implementation of system reform. Bronwen holds a variety of state and national advisory positions, to which she first and foremost brings her personal lived experience of suicide to the table, while also striving to honour the vast perspectives of others she has been privileged to work with and walk alongside over many years. Bronwen is the Co-Chair of the International Association of Suicide Prevention Special Interest Group: Lived Experience.

High stakes mean emotions are high, trust is less than ideal, tension is up, there is controversy and often we feel politics have come into play. In those moments how can you engage people, particularly your peers and the CEO, in a constructive conversation that gets a good outcome? What strategies can you use when a hostile question is thrown out in a meeting? What should you do and not do in your delivery? What does the CEO really want to hear from you?
