Movie tickets? Bought. Notebooks? Out. Butts? In seats. The Mandalorian and Grogu was the first theatrical release we had the opportunity to see during Growing Up Skywalker's run—and what a joy it was to see Star Wars on the big screen! This week, we're covering the first half of the movie, from opening credits to Embo's first appearance, and parsing themes of fatherhood, masculinity, and bread-and-circus blood sports. We discuss the strategic importance of this movie in giving movie-only fans a taste of the New Republic in its heyday. We also sing the praises of Rotta the Hutt (he who paints arenas with blood and sets the stage for a classic Mandalorian-style romp) and Zeb, who is only getting better with age.Next week, join us for the back half of The Mandalorian & Grogu!Timestamps:00:00:00 Who Are We?00:02:45 Plot Summary00:13:15 The New Republic and Subcontractor Reliance00:31:13 We Have Heart Eyes For Rotta the Hutt00:50:32 Zeb!00:57:43 Bae Watch01:04:03 Closing ThoughtsWant more Growing Up Skywalker? Join Tricia Barr and Sarah Woloski in a deep dive into spoiler territory for The Mandalorian and Grogu. While Din Djarin might not have moved quite as far as we expected, Grogu's journey in this movie was a pleasant surprise. Also a surprise, Rotta the Hutt's evolution from Stinky, the son of Jabba the Hutt in the Clone Wars animated movie, to a rebellious older teen stepping out from under his father's shadow. In this episode, we also dig into some favorite music pieces from the soundtrack and share our adventures at the Disney Parks on the movie's opening day. Is it a real Star Wars movie, or does it feel like The Mandalorian Season 4 got squeezed into a theatrical release? We discuss Grogu as a character vs. Grogu as a toy, Pedro Pascal's helmet-based performance, the lack of stakes, the surprisingly strong opening sequence, Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, Rotta the Hutt, Dave Filoni cameos, Star Wars fatigue, and whether Baby Yoda still has the juice. Send us Fan MailThe first Star Wars film in seven years is finally here, and we're breaking down The Mandalorian and Grogu with a mostly spoiler-free review. Dan saw it opening night, Mike saw it the night before we recorded, and we are not on the same page — which makes for one of our most honest conversations yet.We cover everything: the opening weekend box office, whether the film delivers on years of buildup, how it connects (or doesn't) to the Mandalorian series, the new villain Rotta the Hutt, Sigourney Weaver's role, Pedro Pascal's presence in the film, the missing opening crawl, and what the production budget decisions may have cost the final product. We also get into what this film means for the future of Star Wars on the big screen — including the upcoming Ryan Gosling Starfighter film — and whether Disney and Lucasfilm have a real path forward. If you're a Star Wars fan who just saw the movie and want to hear two brothers who care deeply about this franchise actually dig into it, this is the episode. Tonight on Damn You Hollywood, we're reviewing Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, the first theatrical Star Wars film since The Rise of Skywalker and the cinematic continuation of the hit Disney+ series. Directed by Jon Favreau and co-written with Dave Filoni and Noah Kloor, the film follows Din Djarin and Grogu as they work with the New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt while uncovering new Imperial threats in the fractured post-Empire galaxy. Pedro Pascal returns alongside Sigourney Weaver, Jeremy Allen White, and Jonny Coyne, with Ludwig Göransson once again handling the score. Originally conceived as The Mandalorian Season 4 before the Hollywood strikes and Lucasfilm's pivot back toward theatrical releases, the film represents Disney's attempt to transform streaming-era Star Wars back into event cinema. Mixed critical reactions have praised Pascal and Göransson while questioning whether the series' episodic DNA fully translates to the big screen.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59
A Star Wars movie is back in theaters for the first time since 2019! In this episode of Hyperspace Theories, Tricia Barr and B.J. Priester kick off our analysis of The Mandalorian and Grogu with a discussion of the major storytelling decisions underlying the film, which is directed by Jon Favreau and co-written by Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Noah Kloor (The Book of Boba Fett). As the sixth movie of the Disney era and the first Star Wars film built upon source material from outside the preceding movies – specifically the three seasons of the Disney+ streaming series The Mandalorian as well as adjacent series The Book of Boba Fett and Ahsoka – the creation of The Mandalorian and Grogu faced a number of challenges not previously faced by theatrical Star Wars, including an imperative to produce the movie on a considerably smaller budget than the Sequel Trilogy releases while reviving fan and customer enthusiasm for Star Wars on the big screen and the ancillary merchandise revenue that has long accompanied Star Wars films. This context in the state of the franchise explains a number of key decisions about the story built for The Mandalorian and Grogu, including the desire to acknowledge the full range of previous Star Wars stories and fans, from the Original Trilogy and Expanded Universe to the Prequels, The Clone Wars, and Disney-era films, animation, and publishing. We also examine the themes found at the heart of the story, and the non-Star Wars cinematic influences on Favreau's movie. We then revisit a frequent aspect of the Hyperspace Theories podcast: examining how Star Wars' longstanding association with the monomyth story structure shapes the tale being told in The Mandalorian and Grogu. Unsurprisingly, as a standalone film rather than a segment within a trilogy, The Mandalorian and Grogu readily aligns with the cinematic story structure expressed by Christopher Vogler, a distillation and updating of the classical monomyth found in the work of Joseph Campbell. This plot structure also guides the character arcs for The Mandalorian and Grogu, which features the two titular characters as well as significant character development for a third: Rotta the Hutt, who faces his own father-son thematic turmoil as well as pivotal choices about his path in life and the future he seeks for himself in the galaxy far far away. The Mandalorian and Grogu introduced Rotta the Hutt as a Gladiator, however Clone Wars fans already know him since he was younger. Rotta the Hutt was originally saved by Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker in The Clone Wars. We now see him in the Mando movie, fully grown and trying to break out of Jabba the Hutt's shadow. Star Wars has been building to this for six years, and "The Mandalorian and Grogu" opens this week as the first big-screen chapter of Din Djarin and Grogu's story. Matthew, Alex, and Erin put together the primer you need: Din's origins as a foundling of the Children of the Watch, Grogu's choice to stay with Mando over the Jedi, where Season 3 left the two of them, and how the Shadow Council connects to the First Order. Also covered: Sigourney Weaver as a New Republic colonel, Garazeb Orrelios from "Star Wars Rebels" making his live-action debut, and Rotta the Hutt, son of Jabba, voiced by Jeremy Allen White. The episode gets into the debates worth having before you sit down: whether some Hutts speaking Galactic Basic is internally consistent (Erin makes the case and lands it), whether the film will acknowledge the canonical romance between Zeb and Agent Kallus, and what Mando's new status as an off-the-books New Republic contractor means for his approach to bounty hunting. Martin Scorsese is voicing a character named Hugo. It needs explaining, and the hosts explain it. Before signing off, a round of congratulations to Erin on completing nursing school and her pinning ceremony. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Star Wars Generations, an Ethical Panda podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network.

Same old story, ma sempre comunque nuova, al play! Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universesPrime Video unveiled the first trailer for Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage in his first leading TV role as Ben Reilly—a name change from the Peter Parker version he voiced in Into the Spider-Verse—a down-on-his-luck 1930s New York private investigator forced to reckon with his past as the city's only superhero. The trailer also teased multiple villains and concluded with the tagline With No Power Comes No Responsibility. The eight-episode series is set to launch May 27 as a full binge release with each episode available in both black-and-white and color versions.Lucasfilm dropped the first full trailer for The Mandalorian and Grogu Tuesday morning, setting up Star Wars' return to theaters after seven years with Din Djarin and Grogu enlisted by the New Republic to combat scattered Imperial warlords. The May 22 release directed by Jon Favreau and co-written with newly promoted Lucasfilm president Dave Filoni features Pedro Pascal, Sigourney Weaver as former Rebel pilot Colonel Ward, and Jeremy Allen White voicing Rotta the Hutt, with footage showcasing Coruscant, Hoth, gladiator fights, and action sequences far bigger than the Disney+ series. Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights capitalized on Valentine's Day weekend with $83M globally ($37.5M domestic, $45.5M international), marking Warner Bros' ninth consecutive number one opening. Sony's GOAT overperformed with $35.1M domestic; the best opening for an original animated film since Pixar's Element, while Amazon MGM's Crime 101 stumbled with just $16.3M domestic against its $90M budget. The romantic drama skewed heavily female with 76% of audiences and represents record openings for both Fennell and Jacob Elordi, though the holiday boost may be short-lived as GOAT already beat it on both Sunday and Monday.Jason Momoa will star in Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions' film adaptation of Helldivers, directed by Justin Lin, set to hit theaters on November 10, 2027. The film is based on the popular video game franchise in which an elite unit of soldiers called Helldivers battle alien creatures threatening the fictional planet of Super Earth, with Helldivers 2 having sold more than 12 million units in its first four months after its 2024 launch.Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Behaviour Interactive have tapped David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick and Alexandre Aja to write the feature film adaptation of the horror video game Dead by Daylight. Aja will not direct the film as he is committed to directing Under Paris 2 for Netflix, so the companies are beginning the search for a director, with James Wan, Jason Blum, and Stephen Mulrooney serving as producers.James Van Der Beek, the actor best known for playing Dawson Leery on the hit teen drama Dawson's Creek, died on February 11, 2026, at age 48 after battling Stage 3 colorectal cancer.
