Here's this week's message!
Laura goes down memory lane to tell you one of her favorite travel stories of all time. When the Lonely Planet guidebook says not to visit the Amazon in the rainy season but doesn't explain why, she does it anyway and finds out. Join her as she makes her way farther and farther from roads, getting deeper into the Peruvian jungle. This story begins on a public boat chugging along, crisscrossed with hammocks and ends with five days in a dugout canoe. Come along with Laura as she discovers how the flooded river impacts things like spotting wildlife, camping on... land (?) and using the... restroom (?) Things get real in this adventure of a lifetime.Jungle in the jungle by Mons Jacet is licensed under a Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 International License. This week Joe talks with Maria and Matthew from MAITA. They discuss the process of making their new record I Just Want To Be Wild For You (out February 18th on Kill Rock Stars), life in Portland Oregon over the last couple years and how a space heater contributed to their sanity preservation. Maria explains why she see's loneliness as luxury and why it's precious to her. Joe plays Road Song, a tune which illustrates the circular monotony of touring, something most musicians are presently longing for. Matthew and Maria tell us why they feel most "alive" on tour, share a few tour survival techniques and why the experience of spending time with people you don't know is important. WISCONSIN MUSIC PODCAST Episode 52 DONOMA Donoma is an eclectic Rock 'n' Roll band out of Kenosha, Wi., refusing to fall under one genre When modern rock band Donoma decided to head back in to the studio to record their third full length album, they decided it wasn't enough to match the success of 2017's “Falling Forward”. That would be fine for many bands as that record gained them airplay on more than 120 terrestrial radio stations and helped them secure direct concert support for the likes of Soul Asylum, Meat Puppets, Candlebox, Tantric, and Rusted Root along with many top billing shows. For this album the band put three simple rules in place. First, to lyrically examine the world around them and to not shy away from stating where they stood. Second, to keep production to a minimum. And finally, to make a cohesive album that re-imagined rock and roll's glory days. On “American Rust”, Donoma burst through expectations. With eight songs blazing through at thirty-four minutes, listeners are taken on a journey through today's America with all of its hopes and dreams and flaws. The album opens with “Rustbelt Tragedy”, a no holds barred tribute to the American worker and ends with “Road Song”, which tells the story of one man's realization that he must fight for what he believes in. Between those staggering bookends, Donoma tackles millennial angst with the punky “Nobody Wants Us”, race relations on “Hands Are Up”, the young dreamer coming to America on the lilting “Maria”, the tour-deforce rallying cry of “Common Man”, climate change on “Home”, and finally an assault on gun violence and the N.R.A. in the chilling “Ballad of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.” Paddy Fineran of Music Matters says that “American Rust” is “delivered with a steely focus on melody, moxie, and mettle with a fair amount of magic thrown in”, and “This is what music lovers have been waiting twenty years for, the return of great rock n' roll.” The Wisconsin Gazette called Donoma, “a group known for its diverse music, eccentric attitude, and outspoken activism.” The Wisconsin State Journal pitched Donoma as, “one of the most eclectic bands in the state.” Wisconsin's top music paper, Shepherd Express added, “The band has an attacking sound, the raw energy of artists in rebellion … Donoma merges influences ranging from punk to Pearl Jam in to a Frankenstew of menace and compassion.” Web www.donomatribe.com Twitter twitter.com/donomatribe/ Instagram instagram.com/donomatribe Facebook facebook.com/donomatribe Music Links: Spotify https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://open.spotify.com/artist/6cXKWDi6xa3TJ0kB3Fdzjw?si=FgsSx8UXSpmQwGwDvvVH4g__;!!Lf_9VycLqA!1CXXR-FmypBPwdWQWQ1u2vJUVeee9QqU-V0klKY8aT8iW1JDOk-chf05NvRqPp3sIqo$ Apple https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://music.apple.com/us/artist/donoma/428096148__;!!Lf_9VycLqA!wAdS-2J1q9nSVNTcfHz8QLpaLQoSGHrxTH6pC-KzgjmhYL5x3ICyHo5Mlmxn9bLKcHQ$ Tidal Donoma YouTube https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://youtube.com/user/donomatribe__;!!Lf_9VycLqA!2y9OdfXDOqN8Br9Ol5fgKCLme1nu0SRWvh0DAfWJJhwriXesp61zdrJIf4B6-amv5E4$ .www.donomatribe.com

Haremos una panorámica de la primera y más brillante época de uno de nuestros instrumentos favoritos. Nuestros invitados: Lonnie Smith, 'Dancin' In An Easy Groove'; Booker T. In today's VINYL VIBRATIONS podcast, I continue to tour early vinyl records that showcase JAZZ GUITARIST GREAT WES MONTGOMERY. The recording presented in this podcast are a compilation from my own LP collection - - from the golden age of vinyl. I heard these Montgomery Brothers LPs during my childhood. These records were a frequent play on my parent’s Hi-Fi record player – you could stack up to 10 records, and Wes Montgomery was a regular in that record stack.Today, I will pick more of Wes Montgomerys best recordings, made between 1961 and 1968, In those years Wes would have been between the ages of 38 and 45. Love For Sale (Cole Porter 1930 ) Rec Oct 9, 1961, Buddy Montgomery vibes, George Shearing piano, Monk Montgomery electric bass, Walter Perkins drums, WES and FRIENDS, Milestone 1973 remaster 3:32 from the musical The New Yorkers The song is written from the viewpoint of a prostitute advertising various kinds of "love for sale": "Old love, new love, every love but true love". No Hard Feelings (Buddy Montgomery) Rec Oct 9, 1961, Buddy Montgomery vibes, George Shearing piano, Monk Montgomery electric bass, Walter Perkins drums, WES and FRIENDS, Milestone 1973 remaster 3:45 Born To Be Blue (Mel Torme) Rec Apr 22 1963 Wes Montgomery guitar, Mel Rhyne organ Jimmy Cobb drums The Alternative Wes Montgomery Milestone Records 1963 Produced Orrin Keepnews 7:23 I can hear contemporary Pat Martino through this Wes Montgomery guitar part. Fried Pies (Wes Montgomery) Rec Apr 22 1963 Wes Montgomery guitar, Mel Rhyne organ Jimmy Cobb drums The Alternative Wes Montgomery Milestone Records 1963 Produced Orrin Keepnews 6:34 awesome thumb pluck technique half way into song Besame Mucho take 2 (Consuelo Velazquez 1940) Rec Apr 22 1963 Mel Rhyne organ Jimmy Cobb drums The Alternative Wes Montgomery Milestone Records 1963 Produced Orrin Keepnews 6:24 An exceptional improviser the likes of Joe Pass guitar and Oscar Peterson piano improvisation. The content is massive, each listen draws out another impressive sound. The story goes that WM was often not satisfied with his recordings. That;s’s nothing unusual for a god musician. Sure there are musicians that sit once and nail the take. Peter Keepnews was WM’s producer during the Riverside Records years. These tracks are WM’s rejects, and they sound so very good. Fountains of Wayne "Cold Comfort Flowers" (23.1 MB) High Noon Saloon Madison, WI July 8, 2009 I liked this one the best of the new songs that they played, and everything seemed to get a positive response from the crowd. The only one that was really a miss to my ears was the last one they played, "A Road Song," which, despite name-checking Wisconsin, felt really forced and seemed to borrow a lot lyrically and musically from "Valley Winter Song." Their last album was their first I didn't like, so hopefully the new one draws more from this song than the other -- or maybe the new songs are totally different in their regular versions, and all my speculation is for naught.
